Has the hidden apps feature been removed? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

On the mate 8 you could pinch out on the home screen and chooses apps to be hidden from the home screen. This gesture and option seems to be missing from the Mate 9. Am I right or wrong?

Hi, i don't know about EMUI 4.0 but i'm using Nova Launcher Beta under EMUI 5.0, i did'nt find any other solution.
It might be hidden and accessible with root access, but it's not a stock feature on the Mate 9.

Nova Launcher Beta 5.0-beta10
Nova Settings
Gestures and actions
Gestures -> Double Tap = Lock Screen
and unlock screen with fingerprint not before 10/15 sec, i don't know why there is a latence of 10/15 secondes.
When double tapping it asked me if i wanted to give Nova Launcher admin rights, i said no, since if you authorize admin rights you won't be able to use fingerprint for unlocking.
Nova developer Kevin answered to me about this and said that this is a known issue and for the time being there is a work around only for those who are rooted.
So imo it's only a matter of time to get it fixed.
But Kevin is proposing that if we go to Google Play Store and purchase "Screen Lock Pro" we can use it as a work around, i did it and within Nova settings Gestures instead to make "lock screen" action as a result of double tap you ask to launch "Screen Lock Pro", but i wasn't satisfied with the result so i went back to the latence of 10/15 secondes that doesn't annoy me.
But i found that during this 10/15 seconds navigation icons at the bottom of the screen are still visible and if you tap the square one when it is visible you can come back to the unlocked screen, if you wait for the delay of 10/15 secondes you'll have to unlock with the fingerprint which is good.
I don't know if my explanations are clears but using it is very easy, very fast and very safe, good luck.

What's Huawei GX8 MM_6.0.1 ? is it a Mate 9 ?
Huawei G8 or GX8 is an another model phone with Marsmallow 6.0.1 EMUI 4.0
http://s3.amazonaws.com/digitaltrends-uploads-prod/2016/01/huawei-gx8.jpg
On this model phone, when Double Tap is enable, I can see clock without using Power button.
I just want to do that with Double Tap on Mate 9.
It's unfortunate that EMUI 5 doesn't offer this possibility
Tried to find a way... Doesn't work. At least I can't find a way to turn the screen ON when the screen is turned off and the phone locked.

I'm using "Nova Launcher Licence" which is called "Nova Launcher Prime" (5,25 €) on Google Play store, does it make the difference, i believe that it should offer more possibilities.
Yeap it does, here under are the description on Google Play for Nova Launcher Prime :
Nova Launcher Prime
Unlock the following extras by purchasing Nova Launcher Prime
• Gestures - Swipe, pinch, double tap and more on the home screen to open your favorite apps
• Unread Counts - Never miss a message. Unread count badges for Hangouts, SMS, Gmail and more using the TeslaUnread plugin
• Custom Drawer Groups - Create new tabs or folders in the app drawer
• Hide Apps - Keep a clean app drawer by hiding never used apps
• Icon Swipes - Set custom actions for swiping on app shortcuts or folders
• More scroll effects - Such as Wipe, Accordion, and Throw
Nova Launcher Prime acts as a license to unlock these features in the free Nova Launcher App. You will need to install Nova Launcher first.

Agreed... but the double tap isn't working on my side to turn the screen on when the phone is off or locked it. Is it working for you? If yes, please provide me how you did that... as it only works to shut the screen off for me.
Thnx!
PS: i have the license (been using Nova for over 2 years now) and also in the Beta.
The launcher can't wake your device from sleep. The double tap actions in Nova are for when you're interacting with the launcher eg. on your home screen.

No it doesn't work this way and for me it's better like this, allowing turning the screen on with double tap is allowing anybody to access to your mobile, i personaly doesn't find too hard to unlock with fingerprint, even when the mobile is sitting on the desk.

Ok thats what i thought. turning on the screen with double tap on your desk doesn't let people access your phone when locked just let's you input your pin or pattern faster, instead of picking it up. It's really a little detail for comfort on my side as my phone is most of the time in front of me on my desk.
Thanks anyhow.

Live Wallpaper in Lock Screen on EMUI 5 (Nougat)?

When I first got my Honor 8 in November 2016, when it was running Marshmallow, I was able to use Muzei Live Wallpaper for both desktop and lock screen. This looked great and made the whole experience seemless.
After signing up and downloading the update to EMUI 5 through the BETA scheme, that option had disappeared and I was stuck with pics from the gallery or the Magazine Unlock as backgrounds to my Lockscreen. I had logged this as a bug through the beta program, hoping that it would be sorted out before the final release. After updating to the final release for EMUI 5, it seems that the option is still missing, OR am I not seeing where to go to set it?
It now just looks dis-jointed having different pics on display after I unlock the phone, or worse, going from a static picture to a different live wallpaper that might have movement.
Is anyone else able to have a live wallpaper on their lockscreen as well as their desktop?
I can set live wallpaper on desktop, but not lockscreen.

I found out that it's switching in lock screen. You need pull bottom shutter and press left "play" button and uncheck "favorite" center button.

mate 9 us version missing features?

i read in some articles about lock screen efects and tap to unlock and other stuff .this phone support this or only international and chinese versions?
Not sure what effects you're talking about. No tap to wake in any Mate 9 version. The Chinese version has more bundled apps (read bloatware?) and an extra optional button in the bottom navigation bar if I remember correctly.

If you want to change the Huawei Mate 9 lockscreen to customize it to your liking, there are several different ways that you can do this. Since the Huawei Mate 9 lock screen is the first thing you see on the smartphone, it’s a good idea to add different widgets and icons to the lock screen to make the Huawei Mate 9 more usable. You can also change the lock screen wallpaper of the Huawei Mate 9 as well.
Just go to the settings section, and browse for the “Lock screen” you’ll see a list of different features you can add to the lock screen of the Huawei Mate 9.
Dual Clock – shows both home and current time zones if you’re traveling
Clock Size – makes it easier to see by making it bigger or smaller
Show the Date – self explanatory, if you want the date shown, keep this checked
Camera Shortcut – allows you to instantly unlock to the camera
Owner Information – lets users add Twitter handles or other information to the lockscreen
Unlock Effect – this changes the entire look and feel of the unlock effect and animation. We prefer watercolor.
Additional Info – allows you to add or remove weather and pedometer info from lockscreen
they say you can add the weather on locks screen.can we do this?
I guess you answered your own question then.
On my lock screen I have time, date, name, pedometer (disabled atm), camera shortcut, iOS style hidden shortcuts menu at the bottom. Aside from that I get the usual notifications pop-up and music player controls pop-up.

I am not seeing the above options in my "Lock Screen" settings. I have the option "Lock Screen and Passwords" in Settings but does not have the above options. Mate 9 USA MHA-L29. Screenshot of my options for "Lock Screen and Passwords" is attached.
Also, is there a way to change the "Screen Lock Style"? It set the Default which is "Magazine Unlock" and I cannot un-select it, nor does a different option appear.

I too see that as my only option in my lockscreen settings. I am on the US version and do not see all those other option that was mentioned above. The US version seems to be different from the International version.
No I have EU version and there no double touch unlock and simple lock screen widget. You must to unlock use power button or touch sensor. But to lock you must use only power button. Back to roots, back to buttons! I don't know why Huawei in this time use buttons!

I think that's the OP's point. He appears to have copy/pasted that from here, but those of us on the US version don't have most of those options.

EU version not have this option too.
I am coming accorss the same problem. Malaysia version, does not has twin app for wechat, nor do not have the mentioned locked screen features.
Very annoying everytime i place my phone in my pocket and it turn on the camera automatically, only notice when my pocket gets hot.
Already turn on the "touch-disable-mode" but it didn't helps at all
I don't know what you are "missing" but I like the CLEAN, mostly bloat free U.S. version of the 8, and the 9. The couple apps I didn't care for I uninstalled, and there was one or two I just disabled.

The new look for the emui overview screen is a part of the Huawei launcher, just like how it is in the pixel launcher, so maybe the gesture are a part of the launcher as well? Since the gestures on the pixel are a part of the launcher.

So gyus, you needn't to have Emui 9 for this. Install this app and you can configure your edge gestures for left/right/bottom individually. This app gives you even more features
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.edgegestures

Thats not the point, I have even spend to use the xda gesture control App. But first, I think the Implementation from emui 9 is better.

Guys are you sure that p20 pro won't get the new navigation gestures ..this is so upsetting
Just when I thought I saw a light at the end of the tunnel with the emui 9, Huawei rained on my parade. I know I'm never buying anything Huawei again. They keep bringing different kinds of frustration to the table

Unable to use split screen with Nova launcher

Hello to everybody!
Is there a way to use split screen mode while using nova launcher????
I wish to find out as well ?
Works on mine with Nova installed, but only when another app is already open, not when you are on your "homescreen" (or another page of Nova if you have more than one).
"Floating Window" mode works fine on Nova though, with no other apps open.
Swipe in from left or right to open the Multi-Window dock....
Quick press an app for Floating Window.
Drag an app from the dock to the top or bottom of the screen for Split Screen mode, but as I said this only works when an app is already open, so open one of the ones you want normally first, then open the dock and drag the other app you want to the top or bottom to give you split screen.
Not all apps are compatible with Split Screen, but there is an option in Settings/System & updates/Developer Options to "Force activities to be resizable" which may help.
Actually, you can use split screen on Nova Launcher. You just have to trigger it differently. I have no idea why. This is just the result of trial-and-error.
First turn on "force activities to be resizable" from developer options.
Now when in an app. Long press the recent apps button, release it and then press the home button. This works on my Samsung J500F with unofficial Lineage OS 17.1. Let me know if it works

However, if you go to recent apps, and long-press the icon of a particular app, it shows two options- app info, and split-screen, in Lineage OS. Any luck with that?
