Recently i was trying to Change the app icon and name in android device, i was pritty much successful. While i checking out apps for modification ( For different look in luncher ), I tried to change the name and icon of the app "Airdroid". I changed them successfully. But after installing, the app won't launch. It just stopped working.
All I want-
1. Change the app's icon, like any other system apps, and;
2. The name of the app should be changed into related to the app,s icon, which we changed.
Ican modify the name and icon, as i like. But that app not functioning as usual after modification.
I am having this issue, If anyone can give any idea or do that modification for me, it would be very helpful.

I'm looking for info on how to get into modifying ROM's. I can do the basic stuff like replacing system apps, kernel, modem so far.
Looked at this thread but it wasn't that informative and apparent not entirely correct ether. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885048
Things I'm looking for/to-do:
-List of apk's that are absolute necessary to have all ASOP functions work. OR a list of everything that can be removed and have all ASOP functions work.
-Change the time on MMS from received to sent.
-Change system settings defaults
-Faster pull down/up notification bar animation
Things I would like to do but not sure are possible (where should I look to try):
-Change functionality of button/button long press. ie. use google's gesture search when long pressing menu instead of default search.
-When using the "back" button to exit an app auto kill it. Do not kill/act normal if exiting app using "home" button.
-Remove app icons from notification bar that are running in foreground. ie. tasker
-Block apps from running on startup/in background. Yes I'm aware of autorun manager
-Disable lockscreen toggle, possibly add to lock screen chooser? yes I know there is the app no lock.
-If a text message fails to send keep retrying till it does send. (This really bothers me, my old "dumb" sony ericsson did exactly that)
I would like to minimize the use of apps that change functionality as much as possible and would like to make the modifications directly to the ROM.
Question, when using an apk that is modified like the themed black market apk, I assume it does not get updates through the market?
Is it possible to put widgets on the lock screen without the use of widget locker?
I'm guessing there are threads for these, if someone could point me to them I would appreciate it, if not I'll probably find them eventually
Accurate battery mod
Extended power menu options
Lock Screen Chooser
I plan on starting on already made roms from xda to start with.
I would greatly appreciate any info or direction.
Thanks
Did you happen to look at the sticky on "how to create ROMS" located at the top of this forum?
I did, and I did forget about it. It does help a bit, now I can decompile apk's.
Could someone point me to the file in the mms.apk that would contain the value to change the received to sent?
In general there is tons of files in the rom's and apk's, how does one go about locating the files that contain the info that one would like to change?

That's the fun part.
I use the blind squirrel method myself.
Sent from my Captivate.
lol, at 1,250 files for one apk..... how many blind squirrels does it take?
So far I've found something different between a "stock" mms.apk and a mms.apk that displays the sent time.
Code:
Stock mms.apk:
<string name="sent_on">%s</string>
Sent mms.apk:
<string name="sent_on">Sent: %s</string>
Though assume this just means one has the "sent" prefix and one doesn't...

Hi everyone! Im making a theme for Gingerbread for the Galaxy Tab and am stuck because of an icon I cant get rid of or find where it is! Can someone help and tell me WHERE the icon (below attached) that pops up on the task bar during Media Scanning, is hidden? I looked everywhere, all system APKs I can think of including framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk and cannot find it anywhere. Its driving me crazy!
I've successfully modded stat_notify_sdcard.png, stat_notify_sdcard_prepare.png and stat_notify_sdcard_usb.png from framework-res.apk and during PREPARE SD CARD operations the new updated icons show up.
However during MEDIA SCANNING operations, the old shows up again, no matter what. This stock icon I want to replace is hiding still somewhere else (..I cleaned all caches multiple times just in case and doesn't fix it)
Thanks in advance for the tip!
maybe you find in under music player ?
who knows
i never saw it before ~~

You're right again, thank you very very much!! Im almost done with all the graphics except one and editing some XMLs:
First, the download successful graphic was indeed in the vending.apk but when the download is not successful the standard red warning triangle is displayed. This graphic is not part of the vending.apk so im assuming its pulled from the standard stat_sys_warning.png from framework-res.apk?
Finally, I need to change and that is the size of the fonts for the date display on the top right of the taskbar. Do you know which XML or file I need to edit to change that font size?
Thanks again for all you amazing knowledge and help on this

I do believe the status bar clock is controlled by the services.jar and not a particular. Xml file, but ive never edited that clock so i am not 100% positive. Im horrible with smali code. Sorry! Yes the stat-notify-error.png in framework-res would control the statusbar icon for errors while downloading apps.

It's been a while but I'm pretty sure that one is either framework-res or twframework-res (if you're still on a TW ROM). I thought I saw it in amongst the stat_sys_* images, but I could be completely wrong. I don't think I've tried editing that one.
EDIT: By the way, check in status_bar_expanded.xml and status_bar.xml for some parameters regarding the clock, but be careful cos they can ruin a theme (everything from graphical artifacts to bootloops) quite easily.
Hi everybody.
Today I present here a Samsung s3 like lockscreen replacement which will actually replace your default lockscreen and you'll never need to launch that app after a reboot to activate it (I know its too annoying :-\ )
HERE I WANT TO MENTION THAT I HAVEN'T CREATED THIS APP. I'M ONLY SHARING IT HERE
This, let me tell u, is the BEST lockscreen out there to get you rid of that default one. Also this doesn't consume your ram as go locker and others do so you won't sacrifice performance for beauty. What else could you want !!!!
Here's how to go about it :-
1. Download the apk file from the attachments.
2. Install the apk as a system app (IF U DONT KNOW HOW TO then first install it as user app and then use titanium backurp to convert it to a system app )
3. After the installation long touch on ur desktop.
4. Choose the following - Shortcuts>Activities>Touch the name "unlock screen">Choose the second activity.
5. Touch the icon that just appeared and first enable the lockscreen.
6. Now choose the Set sceen lock option and choose swipe.
7. Now u can change wallpapers and shortcuts to be shown on the lockscreen as u wish.
Although there aren't many features here but this lockscreen is permanent and will not affect performance at all.
Congrats !!!! You've just set up your phone's lockscreen to be completely like Samsung GS3.
Whenever you want to disable the lockscreen or uninstall the app all u need to for is disable the screen from the settings of the app and then uninstall.
If u have any queries, post them here and I'll answer u as soon as possible.
I have also attached some screenshots for u to see if you're unable to understand anything. Also if you like the app then post it here and rate the thread well. (I can't force you to thank me but if you liked the app then why not )
ENJOY THE BEAUTY.........
DON'T FORGET TO HIT THE THANKS BUTTON IF THIS HELPED YOU
I've installed it as system app but when I long-press my desktop there is no "Activities" option under "shortcuts". :crying:
Edit: I've managed to get it working by downloading a shortcut creator app from the playstore. It's nice but I stick to my default lockscreen because of two things:
1. The app still shows under my running applications consuming around 2-6mb of RAM acceptable but;
2. It does not have notifications for unread sms and missed calls?
Thanks still.

Thanks for trying the app. The problem is that I didn't write the code so I can't really help that shortcut issue. Anyway I'm trying to find a workaround so maybe this'll be fixed soon.

Hi, I just tried giving a missed call to my phone and found that it does show a notification which is a semi-transparent round icon at the centre of the screen. Also u can add a shortcut to the call log app for direct access to missed calls and a message icon for messages.
Hi can you help me again? I uninstalled this app without deactivating it as device administrator, it went well except for a few expected forced closes which was easily resolved by rebooting my device. A few days after I wanted to give this app another shot, installed it as system app but when I try to create a shortcut I only have one activity to choose from that is "settings". It still activates as my locker but I wanted it to be a device administrator again. By not being a device admin my default locker shows up for while during boot-up until the app loads and takes over the lock. When it as installed as a device admin it was instant upon boot. Hope you can help solve my problem which is primarily why doesn't it show up among the device administrator choices anymore?

Hello. This app (being installed as a system app) doesnt need to be a system administrator. Also you can't install an app that has the status of system administrator without disabling it. Therefore I assume that you've missed something in the description. As or the problem of the other locker app taking over, the simplest solution would be to uninstall that app. Post again here if this didn't solve the issue.
Hello, thanks for the reply. After days of having this app as my default lockscreen, my "complaints" are probably not worth it (especially the device administrator thingy ^^). It's working flawlessly, default lock is not showing up anymore. So it stays as my default lockscreen. And by the way there is a missed SMS notification after all. Again thank you! :good:

Hi !
Marshmallow was rolling out on our Nexus 5 and brought many features. But every year, the problem remains the same : the SIM Toolkit app (Stk.apk) comes with an ugly and old design and a low-res icon.
Decompile Stk.apk, change the icon, recompile it and put it in the right folder (/system/app/Stk) is not really difficult. But "materialize" this app is not something I'm able to do.
So, can someone here materialize Stk.apk and give a better look to this app ?
Thanks !
PS : I know that it is not a really important app for many users, but I think that it could be better if we can give an updated UI to this app, there are many reports about that but Google does not seem to want change something...
It can be easily done with a custom launcher like Nova. No need to decompile

Best way is to simply dematerialize it forever. By removing it.

I prefer to stay on GNL (and XGELS is not available for MM for the moment). But I have already changed the icon myself, so the main problem is the overall design of the app :/
I know that an app can be materialized by using Layers, I will investigate with apktool et try something in that way but I'm not sure of the result ^^

You have already said that in the Cataclysm thread and it is not what I want. This issue was already reported to Google but nothing comes from them, so I just want to begin a discussion to solve this problem ourselves ^^
Decompile the apk with apktool.
Go to mipmap folders and put your custom icon (same dimensions).
Recompile and sign the new apk.

So I have the app that will change the icons and lets you pick the color for each status icon. Root isn't needed. See attached screenshot. Also the file is included here too. If I am breaking rules, I apologize. Hope some of you guys find this useful. Enjoy

Worked for me! I'm rooted and have colors changed all ready but wanted the apk. Thank you
Does it let you remove unwanted icons that are persistently shown (like NFC)?
I was going to install the app but unsure why it needs access to my contacts, gps location, phone status and identity, and all my texts. I don't even want my fiancee to have that kind of access.
Persistent nfc icon is an issue I know nothing of. Sounds like a software issue. This needs all the permissions because it involves all those specific apps with the notifications pop up color
