Wifi Won't Enable - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hi, I have this issue I can't figure out. I bought a Honor 8 for my sister back in November, and gave it to her for Christmas. I know for sure it was good when we first got it since I played with it for 5 minutes or so. But now for some reason, she told me the wifi won't enable/turn on.
It will show as turned off in the quick settings or in the actual wifi settings page. When I click on it to turn it on from the quick settings, the icon would just go dark. From the wifi settings page, the slider would toggle, but the control would become disabled. In either case, the wifi does not turn on at all.
My sister's not into android modding so it's completely stock. The only thing I noticed was that it had Nougat in it, which from a quick research I think is still buggy (BT and NFC issues for example). I was able to downgrade it back to the last Marshmallow version (166 if I remember correctly), but still the same issues.
I've tried factory reset, cache wipe, and turning airplane mode on/off multiple times. The bootloader is locked so I have not tried flashing TWRP/different rom on it. I was not planning on unlocking the bootloader, so I can send it back for a warranty repair if I can't figure out the issue with it.
Any thoughts?

Yes it's a hardware failure. Return it

Uninstall any Health app updates (maybe this will help) and DISABLE that app (disabling definitely helped me, with the EXACT same issue)
I was SO worried, I thought I would have to return it...

I just bought an honor 8 FRD L02 and when I turn it on, the WiFi is not working. Maybe you can be a little more specific on what you exactly did and what you disabled? Also, could you mention the firmware version it happened to you? Thanks!

WiFi is turned off yet is reported as turned on and using battery.

My wifi has been off since i upgraded to M, clean install from the Google images. It still reports my wifi as on and using up my battery....is this a bug or am i reading this incorrectly?

I don't know if this is a setting in marshmallow, but I know in KitKat if you go into the advanced settings menu on the wifi page there is an option that allows the phone to automatically turn on and scan for networks without any user intervention. That setting should be turned off.

You're not alone I'm using mine, but WiFi wasn't on top of the list ever in 5.1.1. Has to be a bug
Ive got this issue as well. Its really annoying. I always keep Wifi off to extend battery life but with M I might as well just keep it on...

huh...mine is set to Always keep wifi on during sleep. Does that matter even if wifi is off?
Since I'm still running kitkat i can't speak for marshmallow, but on KitKat, the wifi on/off toggle takes priority over that setting. Wifi will only stay on during sleep if it was turned on to begin with, but that isn't the issue you guys are experiencing right? There might be an option in that same menu that says something like "let Android search for networks even if wifi turned off". That gives the results you guys are experiencing.
Go to settings-->location-->menu-->scanning and check if WiFi and Bluetooth scanning options are kept on..
I don't have this issue..

Both are checked, i unchecked them both. What were the status of yours?
When I flashed the Factory Image (6.0) I had this problem. I flashed back to 5.1.1 booted the phone. Then booted into recovery and sideloaded the OTA update to 6.0 booted the phone and preformed a factory reset. I do not have this problem anymore. Wifi doesn't even show up in the battery stats.

During initial setup Google asked me if I wanted to keep WiFi scanning enabled to help apps with location to find the location easily.. I declined.. Hence they were off..
Did it help with the battery?

Just an update on battery life. 1.5h SOT no WiFi bug (after sideloading the OTA update) also noticed the battery graph added Camera and Flashlight if they were used

MT7-L09, B522: WiFi losing signal when screen is turned off

I've recently installed Marshmallow on my Mate 7 using the full B522 package.
However, I have a lot of issues when it comes to wifi connectivity, with them being:
* Wifi loses signal when screen is turned off
* Wifi is slow or does not work at all until I disable and re-enable it
Has anyone else had similar issues and knows how to fix them? I tried flashing B522 again, but that didn't solve the problems.

yes, I have.
it would become slow.
I've been told in other thread to factory reset it after the upgrade.
I'm doing it right now.. so i'll tell you of my results in a few days..
Have you guys enabled WiFi in standby mode? For me it was disabled by default, maybe it fixes your problem.
Wifi in standby is enabled, yeah.
I got it to work temporarily by going into Advanced Settings -> Backup & Restore -> Reset Network settings
But whenever I restart the phone the issues are back. It's definitely not my router because it worked just fine before. I remember having similar issues on my Xperia Z where I had to flash fixed wifi modules, but those aren't available for the Mate 7..
What's odd is, is that things like chrome work just fine, but apps that require connections in the background, such as Whatsapp, Telegram, YouTube do not.

I think I might have made an error/assumption. My Wi-Fi was unusually slow.that was the problem. Severe congestion on the channel I had picked.set it to auto now.

Excuse me, can i know what is your csc country, i think it's a rom problem
Mine is UAE, are you the same?
I have the same problem on stock nougat without root or any other mods. Didnt recognize it until i created a tasker profile which depends on the wifi. Now i clearly see that there is a problem, cause the profile switches on and off.
I have already disabled bluetooth/wifi scan, smart network switch and set the wifi to always on - nothing helps...

I have the same problem and I have a (BTU) CSC. I thought it was to do with my battery saving apps and RAM optimisers, so for example for me L Speed but for other it may be Greenify, BatteryCare etc. These apps contain a feature called Aggressive Doze which causes things to shut down and close off while phone has been left inactive for more than 6 mins because if you notice our WiFi doesn't turn off straight away. I would definitely like to whitelist the WiFi application but I am unsure on how to do so. It's really annoying when trying to download big files and WiFi constantly keeps turning off and me having to keep screen on all of the time.
This could be completely wrong but please let me know if you and other guys on this thread are using such apps

Hardtime with WhatsApp notifications!!!!

Dear users/developers,
I have a hard time using Whatsapp because of delayed notifications.
Before making this thread i have done a ton of research.
For example i deleted WhatsApp data many times, put WhatsApp in not optimized, uninstalled GMS Doze, i use PNF root for changing heartbeat time, i disabled AdAway, changed many ROMs (currently on Syberia).
Even when WhatsApp is open and phone is locked notification are delayed (So weird).
This is actually my last option starting this thread hopefully with some help to fix this issue.
I had this issue but it was related to wifi connection slowing down or even disconnecting when the phone was locked with screen off. My notificationsn would only appear after I turned the screen on.

Well actually on wifi and data i have the same problem.. i have checked my wife and i have seen that the heartbeat time is set to 26min but i cant change this settings on wifi.
Im using BBS for battery stats and in 13 hours WhatsApp got 24 wake ups. Im considering also changing the carrier of my sim.
How did you solved this with wifi ?

There was a setting to keep wi fi always on while the screen was off. I tried but I can't find it anymore with Oreo, this might be something that is not allowing the sync in background, do you experience this with any other app?
You could test if you put the phone to download something and turn the screen off for a while, see if the download slow down, stop or finish.
Yeah i just checked that out and no, wifi keeps running when phone is locked.
And actually it's only WhatsApp that i have problems with. Im using messenger, telegram and Tapatalk and im receiving all the notifications of it.
Im looking also for a ROM were i can set notifications to high priority.
I don't even remember when this started because i was done with it.
