NFC issue on my Mate 8 (L29C432B560) - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have an issue with NFC on my Mate 8. Indeed, I tried to read the informations of a NFC credit card and it's very very very hard to detect the card (I have to push the card on the NFC antenna with my fingers and trying multiple positions before success). I have no issue with the same card and my old Nexus 5.
So NFC is working but it's like the NFC antenna power is too low.
I'm on L29C432B560 (EMUI 5, Nougat), never unlocked booterloader, never tried NFC on EMUI 4 and 4.1.
Any way to fix this?
My 2 years warranty will expire in one month so if it's an hardware issue I can always use it.

Is is possible to draw a simple photo of the angle & location? What did you mean by "push the card on the NFC antenna with my fingers?"

Here's my sad experience:

OK...
I tried back-to-back, 'top to top'... Is there a specific angle? Maybe someone who has had success can draw a simple picture?
I have an L29C636B321 (recently updgraded to L29C636B330) ~ when 'back-to-backed' with another Mate 8 L29C185B560 (after many trials) - the L29C185560 seems to activate it's NFC as seeing a 'Tag' without information. My phone, the L29C636B330 did not do anything... nada... really, nothing.
It is becoming annoying now. I've had this phone for close to a year but never thought of using NFC until I bought an LG Washer with "Tag On". Of course, my Mate 8 was not able to read the Tag?? So I had to test.
Today, my L29C636B330 was officially upgraded to L29C636B561 Nougat. NFC and Huawei Beam turned on off course...
NFC back-to-back with my Lumia 1520 Windows Phone... not working.
NFC many positions with a Samsung Galaxy S4 (SBeam/NFC On) - nothing. Sharing a photo...
So is this phone broken from the get go?
It the firmware responsible for this?
Is there a hardware malfunction?
How do I get NFC to work???
When I used an App to detect NFC. It says, NFC is enabled but "no tag detected"?
HELP!!!!

Hi,
I recently bought Mate 8 and I got the NFC issue as you describe.
I came to my mind when reading your post that you said "push the card on...".
Here is my solution:
1. Disassemble the phone, two screw off and open the rear cover.
2. You can see metal spring contacts on the top of the phone to connect the main board to the rear cover.
3. Raise the metal contacts to easily touch the rea cover.
4. Assemble back the rear cover.
Thanks

NFC not working with Android 5.0

Hey guys, I recently flashed the factory Lollipop image from my Nexus 5 (LRX210) and everything was running great.
Not soon after I set up my Tap & Pay, I realized that I couldn't complete my purchases. I thought maybe it was my Wallet app, or something was wrong with the priority of the wallet app, but that wasn't that case.
I tried beaming content via NFC to many other androids, but it was like my NFC card was dead. I didn't get any feedback from other devices, and even when I scanned a NFC tag it didn't react.
My NFC card was working fine before I went to 5.0, does anyone else have this problem? Really hoping I can get some info about it.
Thanks.
Bump :/

Same here . my sony qx 10 wont conect . my g2 also . nfc is dead
So I guess very few have this issue then?

Try pressing down on the back cover where the qi and NFC connectors are. If that doesn't work then you'll have to open it up or RMA.

I was just reading up on it. Before I upgraded I opened up the back cover to show my friend the internals, then I snapped the cover back on (without pushing the back cover). A week past, then I updated to Lollipop. Another week has past since I upgraded and I just now realized the NFC wasn't working. I got my friend to let me use his wireless charger, and it worked fine. I also tried pushing the back in to hear that extra snap, but nothing has seemed to work.
Edit: I also flashed the factory image for KitKat, and NFC still does not work.
Perhaps I should be more detailed when I say "not working." The NFC does indeed recognize NFC tags and other enabled devices, however it does not vibrate like it should, or work like it should. I have many NFC tags that I bought and were working just fine. I tried them out 1 by 1 with my Nexus, and every time I scanned 1, a white screen would flash for a very brief moment, as if it was a windows opening and then closing before the animation finished. I used the NFC Tools app, and it recognizes the tags, but it can't read, write, lock, or do anything to them. I downloaded an app called NFCSniffer, and I get feedback from tags as well. But it seems as though my NFC chip is not working correctly ever since I opened the back. I'm really confused about this whole situation and wish I hadn't even opened the thing.

Weird. In all the cases I know of, the NFC chip is either completely dead or just not connected properly. Try opening it up and putting it together again. If that doesn't help then I guess you'll have to replace the chip.

Not sure where exactly one would find them. Just have to search for one, or if they don't exist then I guess you'll have to send it to LG for repair.
Alright, thanks for the info.

NFC?

Has anyone got NFC to work?
You have an option of choosing NFC secuity chip by choosing kne of the sim slots
But it does not read any nfc tags

I'll admit I had a time trying to get nfc to work. Just sending a picture to my wife (who also has the Mate 8), was a task. I finally got it to work when we took our cases off.

On my AL10 NFC works. I transferred a video I had taken to a friends Samsung phone through NFC and it worked fine. I was running KangVIP B168 at the time but NFC should work on stock as well.

I tried this with another Mate 8, made the 2 Mate 8 "kiss" close to where the camera is. The other phone recognized a tag which it could not read (My Mate 8). That was L29C185B560. I just updated mine to L29C636B563... I tried to NFC with a Windows Phone. No luck.
Pretty pissed now!
I also have a problem with NFC on my Mate 8.
Current firmware L29C636B563, previous firmware tested on L29C636B321 (and maybe L29C636B330)
First off, I was testing this with an LG Washer / Dryer with the "Tag On" logo. The LG Application could not detect the NFC so I will assume the problem is with the phone? Where exactly is this NFC strip they are talking about? No, even after updating to L29C636B563 Nougat OTA Push Update, my Mate 8 will still not work with LG Tag On.
So, I got curious as to whether or not NFC was working to begin with. I live in Canada. It is a very *backwards* country and NFC applications are few and not mainstream. Apple Pay just got introduced... and Android Pay is not even available for download... so... I never really had any use of NFC at all.
Anyway, I have another Mate 8 (not mine). It recently got an OTA push, L29C185B560. At that time, my Mate 8 was still at L29C636B321.
We tried Android Beam... I guess the instruction was to bring the phone close together (in this case - back to back) and both phones will detect each other... then you can tap content to the other phone...
Well... the L29C185B560 (let's call this C185 for short) made a sound and it picked up a tag, but that tag was empty... ?? My phone, the L29C636B321 (let's call this C636 for short) did not do anything at all... it just stared and stared in outerspace....
I also tried to "Share" and then pick "Huawei Beam" and of course, nothing happened between the 2 phones....
I was suddenly discouraged... eeeks! No NFC? I thought this phone was the *super* phone... time to shop for another phone.
Just last week, my C636 got its first OTA update... uhm... only after downloading Firmware Finder... maybe it did something to the settings to correct it...
So, it got updated to C636B330 first, then 2 days later, C636B563 arrived. Yay... Nougat! What bugs are there?
Just 2 days ago, I tried to Beam with a Samsung Galaxy S4. No luck there...
So just this weekend, I tried Beam again... first, just putting the phone together... no luck.
Then, I thought... uhm... so this time, I put the phones together, back to back and then picked a photo on my phone, "Share" and "Huawei Beam".... surprise, surprise... I heard a tone.... I angled my head and saw that my phone recognized a device and I tapped and I guess the other phone, the C185 didn't need to accept the beam, it was already downloading the photo...
So I tried the LG Tag On again... no luck...
Then. I got home and downloaded apps to read my chip enabled Canadian passport (inside and outside the covers) and my Paypass enabled credit card... No... none of the apps detected anything.
To my understanding NFC will "communicate" once detected. No further action. In the experience with Huawei Beam... it seems that an "action" has to be triggered for NFC to activate? Maybe I am wrong and have been wrong all this time?
So, does "reading" an NFC tag also require an action?
What else is broken?
I found some documentation on Huawei Mate 8 NFC. Maybe someone with more experience will be able to explain this occurrence way better? Give us more insight and get it working?
I just bought 10 NFC Tag stickers on eBay, let's see late on if the phone actually reads it....
Thank you for this. I had sworn my NFC was dead, then I took the extra step you mentioned of trying to send a picture using Beam, and that appears to have woken the NFC chip up. I can't believe it's working fine now.
Cheers!

Repair
Same case but i have found the reason.
The nfc antenna is embedded in to top side of back cover.
It's connected not with flex cable, but with spring contacts
2 screws on bottom
open carefully (fingerprint scanner on cover is connected with flexible cable)
adjust spring contacts
clean contacts and contact pads on cover with alcohol or ...
that's all
now it works

GPS is not working

Hello. i have a question. I have a problem with my mate 8. It's that that my GPS is not working (i don't get a GPS fix). I've sent my phone to the repair shop with guarantee, but they refused to fix it couse i have 2 slight dents in housing and apparently that is what is couses the GPS problem. (one dent is in area of volume buttons and the other is where the charging port is). It's really the dents that can couse this, or is the GPS itself? I could probably change the housing myself (they want me to pay 110€ for replacing it), but how is with replacing the GPS module itself? is it even possible? thank you in advance
its called an SoC (system on a chip) for a good reason, namely that the whole system is built into one chip or the same motherboard. so ud basically have to exchange the whole mobo ^^ maybe its just a bad gps antenna contact though...how did u get those dents?
Sent from my Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL10
Ok, that sucks actually then
Is it possible to figure out if the gps is bad without changing the housing first? I tried AndoiTS GPS TEST and i get AGPS in orange. Does that mean that module is fine? (I added a screenshot).
Oh, and I've got the dents whit dropping my phone -.-
And another question. Where is the actual antenna? Or is the whole housing that works as antenna?
Hi. I bought the phone on the 8th October 2016. GPS was fully working. On the 10th, I updated as there is an update showing on my phone. After the update. I cannot get any GPS signal at all. This is a bad update.
Flash
I had same issue after I incorporated the KANGvip tools into AL10369 , just flash the cyst from another ROM like b200 or similar. If you don't know how then flash ROM to a working Rom with GPS. Extract the custom backup from twprp. Reload the nonworking ROM and flash only cyst and boom cops can find u after via gps lol

thanx to finding this thread i kept on searching
i recently changed the screen on my phone and since gps failed completely (wifi also seemed to be lesser)
as the phone lays on the screen, the copper nipple in top left corner is the contact the gps antenna has to make with the case.
i placed some paper beneath the element holding this niple, thus pushing it up - BINGO
i get a 3d fix in no time like before
also wifi connection improved

Mate 8 GPS fixed !
Finally, after weeks of researches & tests I found the "nipple" or copper pin !!!
It's indeed the one on the top left once the screen is on the table. Either you find a way to put it back in position... without breaking it (the best way is probably with your nail) or you just put some Aluminium (a tiny sheet of aluminum folded several times to get 1mn maxi alu to allow the final winding) in the rectangular "hole" on top right (opposite) of the metal cover of MATE8.
I discovered the "right pin" while testing to put a small aluminium foil on several places of the main board (once opened naturally) AND using GPS TOOLS (playstore) ! you have to wait several seconds to get the signal or at least orange dots on the "radar". Better to test first such tool first with a smartphone where the GPS is working fine and compare both phones while changing the place of the aluminium. Nevertheless, I hope you would not have to repeat my tests as I will clearly show the right "copper pin" in an attached picture ...
Hoping that helps.

Check water sticker on botton of sim slot
I had the same issue with a board i fitted to G930F bluetooth wasnt working nor wifi for no apparent reason i went through absolute everything firmware wise and system wise and couldnt figure out what the problem was i then removed everything once again looking for a loose connection it turns out the board i fitted in the top right hand corner there is a silver chip that controls wifi and bluetooth under the antenna there was a small black spot i noticed once carefully cleaned up i found the culprit there are 2 tiny fuses that blew conecting to the wifi chip this chip must also control bluetooth and NFC as that no longer works also.

I did find the solution unfortunately it requires the wifi ic chip to be replaced along with the fuses accompanied to the chip on the logic board but that means micro soldering the new chip on the other solution is change the board out when you take the antenna at the top off at the top right is the silver chip look at the circuitry and you should find a black burnt out spot also check the aerial for plastic burn where the chip sits
Thats the only solution available that ive found, not even the factory binary found the issue with the hardware though
That one chip though controls the wifi/bluetooth/android hostspot/NFC funnily enough though even though its blown visually the wifi toggles on still and will every now and then pick a network up for a second, the bluetooth toggles on but will not find any other device and other devices cannot find it either, the android hotspot turns on and broadcasts a signal but when trying to connect to it it will not connect, the NFC toggle is also set to on with the writing and toggle greyed out and NFC apps asking to turn on the chip but it cannot be toggled these are symptoms of the error,
If you would like to inspect your device,
If you dont know what your doing order a new backing i can successfully remove them without cracking them with a hair dryer, screen puller the cheap ****ty ring ones, and a guitar pick,
To start heat the backing of the phone up with hair dryer until its warm/hot next step is my secret trick to pop the watertight seal take the sim tray out and no **** blow into it youll hear the seal break get the ring puller pull it up enough to get the guitar pick in and just slide it all the way round,
Once the backs off theres 3 screws at top on antenna your gonna wanna use a phillips #00 for them once the screws are out get a pair of tweezers and slide them into the slot on the left side of the antenna where the vibrator is and pull up it will probably go flying if you use to much force but it wont break, the circuit and wifi module are now exposed on the top right diagnose the board for burnt spots if there is there, take the NFC chip off below the antenna and then the speaker to expose the charging port check the bottom right hand corner for circuitry burning also.

Hi, I have same problem for long, I tried all software options: factory reset, network reset, hard reset, wipe, firmware upgrade, downgrade,,
I can use NFC without problem but WiFI and Bluetooth are greyed out or stucking on turn on without finding anything.
Could you confirm what is the right IC for it ? I found two different IC number one on Ebay another on Part4reparirs , not sure which one is legit as both claim to be G930 wifi-IC (can't add link as I am new user)
also I would be interested to know where to buy fuse for it
I really miss my phone for few month using spare xiaomi now

Hey mate im a phone technician,
Ive got a few boards qnd broken S7 laying around ill pull one down and take a picture and label it and what not & will post it here for you,
The ic chip isn't actually a fuse its an actual chip which controls the wifi and bluetooth functions of the phone NFC is locted on 2 different part of the board aswell as wireless charging coil etc, so if that stuffed best of getting a new board, but however there is a small thermistor (ThermalTransistor) just before the wifi bluetooth ic hopefully for you its blown that and stopped current before getting to the wifi ic, i will also label this in the diagram
Hopefully in your case its the thermistor youll know anyway if it is will be blown with black or white residue everywhere and your antenna may be partially burnt out in that case, you will also need to check the daughter board for black or white burn residues also in the bottom right hand corner ill take a picture and label again also,
If i cant get the pics up straight away for you its because xda app is being a pain in the ass still and wont let me upload being playing up for a week now

hardware fix for wifi/bluetooth problem

Hello everyone.
my device is actually a G play mini but we all know it's just a rebranded honor 4c ( in my case CHC U23)
my problem is wifi/bluetooth don't "see" any networks. However, mobile 3g works fine
Don't know when problem started because the phone was handed down to me.
I've done a lot of research and I will post my findings.
- This seems to be a common problem with Honor 4C/GPlaymini/P8lite. I've tried any all all stock and custom roms from all the models above and problem persists so I'm possitive it's hardware related.
- From searching youtube the solution seems to be to replace or "reball" the wifi IC. my first finding is that the part number is:
HI1101 ( I had to apply hot air to a metal shield in order to remove it and see that) it's under the shield 'between' the Kirin620 and the headphone jack. This is the same IC chip as p8 lite
- a motherboard replacement costs about the same as a new phone so not worth it IMO however the wifi chip is easily findable and reasonably cheap on ebay or alixpress and I would give it a try. (I'm a beginner but wanting to learn)
My question if anyone has any experience is:
1) In youtube videos the wifi/bluetooth switch was greyed out and then the fix was to replace IC. Since I could use the switch but phone just didn't "see" any networks (even next to the router) does that mean the problem lies elsewhere and I'm just risking to brick the phone?
2) assuming wifi IC is fine, my other idea is the RF cable/ribbon/connection is damaged (which makes sense) but I can't for the life of me find where such internal cable is either by myself or in dissasemble videos (of which there are very few for our 4C) But interestingly on ali and ebay such a part exists (won't post links but honor 4c wifi connector is easy to find)
Does anyone know where such a connection is located or if it's just a mistake from the sellers? Are there boards that don't have those white rf cables to connect internal external antennas? Where is even RF antenna on the 4C?
I will update this if I attempt repairs but it will take a long time for any parts to reach my country.
Any other input on the wifi/bluetooth issues is appreciated. Also perhaps share your story if you have a similar problem. Specially if you solved it.
Sorry if I'm not posting in the right place, but this is as close as I could get for my not-so-popular model.

Hello everyone.
my device is actually a G play mini but we all know it's just a rebranded honor 4c ( in my case CHC U23)
my problem is wifi/bluetooth don't "see" any networks. However, mobile 3g works fine

Hei Alderus,
Did you manage to solve the problem?
I have the same issue with the WIFI/BT (they're grey).
Please let me know if you have any updates.
Thanks!
fixed your issue?

(I'm a beginner but wanting to learn)

woops. I should have posted long time ago. Anyways the update is I solved my problem (or it got solved by itself)
I had a business trip during summer, I still didn't had the replacement modem. Anyway, I remember it was blazingly hot and kept the phone in my pocket and then... I was very surprised to see wifi was detecting networks when back in the hotel!
I was running Lineage android 6.0. Didn't do any hardware or software changes, just went to a different city by plane it was hot and it started to work! there's is the funny catch that it never seems to work on the wifi I originally used it in back in my city(I moved from there but went back and found that I could see the network but it never really connected)
Other than that wifi has been working normally in any other home/office I've been to. I have no idea what really happened, but definitely I will never buy another huawei phone.
sorry if this doesn't help anyone in the same boat...
