The storage mod aka... the kitchen sink mod! - Moto Z Force Accessories

Note that this is NOT my project! I just found it on indiegogo and it looks rather interesting:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/moto-z-the-storage-mod-smartphone#/
They pretty much threw everything in there, including the kitchen sink:
Extra battery 2800 mAh
Qi Charging
Heahphone Jack
IR blaster
Mico-USB
USB-C
USB A x2
SD Slot
Built in memory sizes 32GB - 256 GB
Mini HDMI
Obviously this is going to be a pretty big mod! Projected delivery is Dec. 2017... but... these things are often delayed so I would take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah know what actually might be a really cool feature for a mod like this? A USB male port on it. It would be awesome to be able to be able to take this mod off my phone and plug it into a computer/laptop and have that on-board memory show up as a flash drive. It would make it super easy to move files back and forth between phone and computer.

There is a USB-C port on it already... and the idea would be that you wouldn't need to carry a cable... you could just plug right into any computer that had a USB port.

I understand the concept, but to go with what you said there is already a usb a port...usb c ports are "the future" and most pcs are getting them now...my pc and laptop both have them.

Ah... I see, I wasn't understanding right, sorry 'bout that. I won't necessarily be opposed to that as usb-c is becoming much more common, and it's smaller too, which would presumably make it easier to fit in.

I just feel a male usb c would fit better with the phone since the phone itself is already usb c, its a good idea though, and either way would be good, but smaller seems to be the go to with mobile...except screensize and battery

Indiegogo again...... 50% of the project are scam,40 % by people unable to run a company and actually be successful. Leaving a 10 % successful campaign..... If it sound to good to be true it most likely isint. That project fit in the first 50 % at that price point.

Can't disagree with that... I backed probably 15 or so Kickstarters back in the day... haven't visited the site in a LONG time because I got sick of everything being sooooo late or failing out right.
I don't plan on backing this project personally... but it was interesting non-the-less so thought I'd post it. Honestly, I don't plan to back any indie or kickstarter projects ever again. I'll wait until it's actually out there before buying, even if it means I have pay a bit more.

extUSB Data Cable? Not needed anymore!!!

Last night when I was half a sleep I plugged into my HTCTouch Pro a standard USB cable in its ext USB port. It started charging and I went to bed. When woke up in the morning, I was shocked and I was a fraid some thing could have happened to the devive. I immediately unplugged it.
I checked the device and there was nothing wrong with it. I decided to test it further. So, I connected the "wrong cable" again and I could exchange files normally with this standard USB cable. I also used for active sync and Internet sharing!
I also connected the standard cable the Pro's charger and it worked like a breeze. This means that if you need an additional USB cable you can buy a cable at quarter the price of the damned "extUSB" one!
Hope I provided you with some useful trick.
Note: Use it at your own risk. But I tested it on my device with no problems. Perfect!
Sorry to ruin your excitement, but pretty much everyone knew this already. The ExtUSB is a standard USB plug but with extra pins on the edges that only ExtUSB cables have receptors for. They are just audio and video pins, and aren't required to charge to transfer data.

Third, actually, and my post didn't even seem to surprise anyone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444534
However, with a huge and complex forum like this, it's no wonder and no shame that things get discovered, asked or explained again and again. I'm sure there's a lot of people that didn't know this yet and found out by reading your post. So kudos to you.
First time I've seen it. Good to know for when I get mine in a week or so!
was it ever necasarry?
i used regular mini usb on my 8525 all the time
You guys got to be kidding... I couldn't even imagine that someone doesn't know about this already. Mini USB is the standard charger for most recent device these days.
I use the same mini USB (got it for $3) to charge my phone, my camera, my MP3 player and anything that I can plug in. A USB port from your computer have an output of 5Volt... so don't worry about it, it won't kill your device.
Welcome to the Forum, by the way
guys - give him the credit for his discovery. at least it helped me - i didnt know and to me he is the best inventor of 2008!!!!! Way to go abdelbaset0
Lol, this stuff gives me the giggles, personally, ive always used normal MiniUSB cables, ever since they brought out that connection on their devices, but the really funny thing is, when i was in a T-Mobile store once, the attendant genuinly thought it would damaged the device when i said i wanted a normal (miniUSB) car charger to use with my TyTN.... Still Chuckling now.

Sadly, because of reps like that, the various print materials, websites trying to overcharge for a product, and the general user's fear and lack of education....this is the sort of information that a lot of people will probably find to be wildly helpful, even profound.
When my girlfriend got some phone, not entirely sure which one (she's been through quite a few), she thought she had no choice but to use the charging brick and data cable that came in the box. She complained about a low battery one day while in my car. A quick look to see the shape of the port and I plugged in my car charger. She was in shock...and I was equally shocked that a very computer literate asian girl would feel comfortable installing windows but was baffled by the shape of a plug

LOST: TG01 Box with Accessories

Here's the story. I got my TG01, tried all the nice things. Packed away the non-essentials in the box (non-essentials = data cable, usb HOST cable, the naff Tosh 8GB MicroSD, stand, etc.).
However, I come to get the things OUT of the box, and the box is missing.
Has anyone seen it?
If not - does anyone have any or all of the above accessories they'd like to sell me? Now we're getting on with the ROM cooking, the TG01 is going to be phenominal... and I'd like my wires!!!

Not so non-essential now are they!
I'm sure I could manage without... but they are now desirable to me.
There would be more satisfaction in actually finding the ones I know I have somewhere, but I know this will only ever happen once I've bought replacements!
Has to be said, the coolest thing was, just for the sake of it, having a USB hub hanging off my phone with a 500GB Ext HDD, keyboard AND mouse, all working!!
Would be very difficult to get all that lot into my pocket, however!!

Your batteryw ill last approximately 2.4 SECONDS with all of that
t'was a powered USB hub, so all devices were taking power from there... so the max draw on the phone would have been limited to around 50mA max...
however
that doesn't stop the battery only lasting 2.4 seconds ANYWAY!

[How-To] ★Build Your Own Dock★ -- 3 Part Series (Finally DONE!!)

Hey guys, I'm back! If you haven't seen the other thread I made, I was asking if anyone wanted to know how to make their own dock. Since I got a pretty good response I decided to write up a detailed tutorial.
Links to the Articles
--> Part 1 (building the body)
--> Part 2 (implementing the functionality)
--> Part 3 (making it look good)
Back Story
I've wanted to make my own desktop dock for some time now and I finally did! I ran into some troubles with it in the end so sorry for the tardiness, but it's done now .
That's all I have to say for now. Happy hacking!

there's something i don't understand :
1-what about fire
2-what for exactly....I didn't notice an external power connector in wiring diagram, so i assume this is just a nice case for listening music....did i miss something ??
Anyway it seems a good job and you work really clean....my own works before (sometimes even after) the final hand are simply horrible !!!!!!!
Curious to see step 3

Haha, "what about fire." Well, the entire dock is going to be coated in Bondo (automotive filler) so the chance of the outside catching on fire is 0%. The inside however, is going to be left bare, but since it will be a sealed unit, the oxygen supply would quickly run out if a fire were to start.
As for the power supply, there is a DC input on the left side of the diagram. I am thinking of stealing power from the USB hub as well, but I have yet to test if it will supply sufficient power if multiple devices are also plugged in. I am also going to be putting in a battery pack so that it can be used without an external power source.
Part 3 will be coming within the next week or two so stay tuned!

Well if you've used a non-powered USB hub before you will know that it can't supply enough power to fill up all it's ports with power-drawing devices. I've found that I can have my phone and two USB sticks plugged in at the same time and it works fine. But once the fourth port is filled some of them stop working. It was something I knew would happen from the start, but it's not a tough sacrifice to make.
I also thought about using a powered USB hub, but didn't want any more wires sticking out.

However, this isn't needed, as the SGS outputs (analog) audio via the USB when connected to a car dock (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980937).
I think this can't be used in your application, because you connect to the PC, but if that isn't required, this could be an option.

External Battery charger for TG01??

As per the thread title, I am looking for a battery charger for the TG01. I need one that will simply charge the battery (will need also a spare battery) - and just swap out the batteries as I go. I can't work with an external charger that connects via micro-usb (as I'm having issues with the micro-usb port and can't charge the phone! Therefore need another means of charging ASAP - and will come back and look at how to tackle fixing the micro-usb port at a later stage).
Anyone know where I can get such a thing???
Struggling to do so - so far in my www search....
You mean like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal...700?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a6e594a7c
"Universal mobile battery charger" is what I looked for.
You can get better one's with digital readouts, but that is EXACTLY what I bought a few days ago to try and save my TG01 from a bad wm6.5. Just waiting for it to turn up.
@Scougar: Yes - I managed to get one in the end - off ebay. Hopefully it will arrive before the week is out - as I'm currently phone less!
Not good! Mine arrived today btw... Annoyingly no instructions on what the LED colours mean on it, or which terminal is positive and which negative.
btw.. mine says 850ma on it, so not the full 1000ma, but I can live with that.
I bought this on eBay - can´t paste the link here - look for - 1500mah Micro USB Back up Battery Charger + Cable for Toshiba TG01 TG 01
I am very satisfied when need to power battery out not having power adaptor. However I have totally 3 batteries and purchased also the solar power adaptor with internal battery.

I had the same problem re. instructions - but have got the hang of it. However, it's not a sufficient solution for me. It seems to take an absolute age to power up a battery. I have a spare battery - and even this isn't going to be enough.
I guess it's because of the way I use the phone - with connection to usb keyboard - to write emails...even though I remove the cable the moment the email has been written, it absolutely drains battery resources - RAPID!
I will have to try and get the micro-usb port fixed somehow. I've contacted toshiba to see if - first of all there is any warranty cover on the phone (i bought it off ebay - so not sure if covered or not).
Even if not covered, I'm unsure where to send it - or who can really fix this. Does anyone have any ideas? I am based in Ireland. Do Toshiba have a list of approved service centres??
You will just need to get a higher 'ma' rated charger then (so battery will charge faster).
BTW.. sounds stupid.. but have you tried another micro usb cable (a proper charging cable, rather than just a regular data transfer micro usb one?)

I'm a bit concerned about this - as someone has suggested to me that this can't be repaired - that it's 'terminal'. Can this really be the case????
Seems an awful waste of a phone if that's true....

I'm not sure what "burn's out", so I wouldn't like to speculate, but the repair of the actual 'port' surely wouldn't be that hard even for an amateur solderer? Maybe it's something in a charging chip that's burnt out? Given that you can pick tg01's up for £50+ (I really am guessing here.. I've been drinking).. it probaly isn't worth the cost of a repair unless you do it yourself.

The ruddy thing cost me €200 back then....can't remember for sure when -I think 9 months ago. Just checked ebay and they range from €110-€180. Pretty poor form - if they can't do the job for a couple of years at the very least.
Not sure where I stand as regards warranty - still waiting to hear back from toshiba support.
I don't feel that buying another one is the way to go - if they are flawed in this way. Furthermore, it makes me wonder about investing in a good phone - if they all have a point of weakness in terms of the micro-usb slot. Had a quick look at the nokia lumia at one stage last week....but if I'm using that port heavily (which i am - constantly swapping out between cable (for keyboard) and usb power cable....will the same thing happen?
If you are worried about over working the port, then just get an extension cable or try using a powered USB hub so you won't be swapping it out so often.
The micro usb port design is probably 'weak' compared to the mini USB port design, but it's what we are pretty much every phone on the market is now using. You could also use a USB keyboard.
I would only have considered about £75 for my phone (MODS: I can't sell it , I've bricked it... or as I like to say "I'm between operating systems at the moment" ;-) ) Point is, you can probably get one cheaper than you are seeing on ebay.
I think you are either better off with another phone, or getting a bigger battery, they question is whether you want to invest in the TG01 anymore, or get something else.

How can I use the powered usb hub exactly? I can plug the usb keyboard into it -then run a usb cable between the hub and the usb to micro-usb adaptor that then connects to the phone...is that correct?

This is what is also dampening down my enthusiasm for investing in another phone. It's a situational thing - and I don't really have any other option but to use a usb keyboard (I can't connect via bluetooth).

As regards moving on to a new unit, I don't really want to go down this road for two reasons;
1. I don't think I have got my money's worth out of the spend on the TG01 - and while the work arounds are far from ideal - I am otherwise happy with the phone in principal
2. I fear making another big investment - only for the same thing to happen again (given that I will continue to use micro-usb port heavily
A bigger battery - I don't think is a possibility?? I know there was one oversized battery on the market for that phone - but it came with a new back cover for the phone also - as it was thicker than normal. It was expensive - and it's not really the route I wish to take. What I might do - is buy another battery. Then - with 3 batteries on the go - just keep charging them up on rotation at home.
Mickey mouse approach - but I don't see any other feasible way of handling it.
IF I did get another phone, I don't think it would be the TG01. It served its purpose at the time (and It will continue to do so - although more awkward now). However, I don't think this sort of failure should happen - and support should be better. Very hard to get a hold of someone in support - NO support in ROI - and necessary to mail the phone in to their UK service centre. In addition, just discovered that it's out of warranty.
There are some internal pictures of the TG01 floating around, it might be worthwhile trying to dig those up, and see if you can get a look at the USB connection points, and see if an amateur repair is possible.
EDIT: If you go to the following thread you will find internal pictures It looks to me like the port could be repaired if you have a fine enough soldering iron, or taped it up well enough. (As long as the problem isn't a 'trace' being burnt out... and we assume that the port itself has broken/come loose or needs replacement).
Can someone recommend a good quality external charger
Only a couple of weeks - and the external charger I got off ebay seems to be flaking!
Can anyone recommend a GOOD QUALITY external charger that I could order up - that will work well with TG01 batteries??
Have to say... that one I bought isn't the best quality. connection is 'iffy' now it seems.

I;ve been trawling the net - but they all seem the ruddy same! What would you buy if you had to go again?
Right now - at this moment - the charger is working again - but I spent half the day trying to get it to work up until now! I don't have great faith in it - and if it goes, I'm sans phone once again.
If I could get a reliable charger, I would be fairly happy. I've got into the routine of charging alternate batteries - so that system works (so I can squeeze the outlay on the phone back out of it - before I go and upgrade at a later stage).
The only other type of external charger I could find was this.
So....i've ordered one up....will post back whether it actually does the job or is another piece of sh1t!

Blu Pure XL Replaceable Parts? (USB Port)

Hello everyone, I've been looking for 2 days now on Parts for the Blu Pure XL (Gionee Elife E8) and I've came up with nothing...
I have a damaged USB Port and I know this cause I've tried every charger in my home and I've cracked it open to take a look and the prongs that connect it to the board are bent. If anyone could give me a source that sells Blu Pure XL parts that would be incredibly helpful!
Please reply URGENTLY.......

Just my thought, but aren't microUSB ports just... microUSB ports? It's not like the ports on different devices differs physically from others. You can use any microUSB cable on any phone with a microUSB port, can't you?
As for replacement parts, I'm not an expert on electronics (perhaps you're more knowledgeable than me), but can't you just swap in any new female microUSB port (or maybe even a USB Type C port, if you have the knowledge and if it fits)?
I'm not sure how the microUSB port is hooked up since I don't have the guts to open up my own Pure XL, but can't you unsolder/cut off your old port and solder in a new one (provided you have the knowledge)?

MicroUSB ports are not just... MicroUSB ports, there are different types of pin variations (But all are 4 pins) to fit certain types of boards.
I never thought of actually replacing the USB Port. It might actually work, but I'm a little hesitant since I paid $350 for my phone.
Thank you for the reply back and I will try this. By the way, USB Type-C has 24 pins and a MicroUSB has 4; it's possible to use the USB-C, but Id only be able to charge my phone and it would take QC capability away from my phone. If anyone could direct me to the actual PCB Board with the USB and the Speakers for the Blu Pure XL that would be awesome! (Until then I guess this solution will have to do.)
Crude Solution, but works.
So what I did what get into my phone and remove the Non-Removable Battery, spliced an old microUSB cable and connected the Red & Black wires to the P+ & P- of the Lithium Ion Battery. Seems to charge the phone fast, bust remember to keep an eye on it and to not let it overheat... Here is a picture of the outcome: http://imgur.com/98Zolef

Having the same problem but for mine it seems like the metal connector on the outside protrudes whenever I plug a cable into the port... pretty loose by the looks of it.
Methinks I might see if BLU can fix it though.

They weren't able to fix it so they sent me a new Energy XL instead. Slightly inferior specs but battery is outstanding.
Also ported CM 12.1 rather easily to it. But yeah, you're either going to have to fix it yourself or get a replacement Energy XL (they might allow you to get a Pure XR as well, not sure.)
Not to dredge up a old thread; But I still need a charge board for my pure xl; I posted something months ago; and shelved the phone until recently; and I would love to find a source of parts for this.

Hate to bring up an old post but can anyone direct me to a "how to" on installing a new usb pcb? I've disassembled my phone and it seems the only solder point is the lower left hand portion.. I don't see any way of disconnecting otherwise. Ought I un-solder whatever it may be? or is there another method. Sorry btw.

I'll take some pics, but honestly if you cant tell the disconnection points (they are VERY obvious on this phone)
then maybe you should hand this repair off to someone more experienced...

no, speakers are part of the back panel, it does drive the speakers though, the just are not attached to the board (spring connections)

Thanks for your reply, do you know where to get the panel, as my speakers are shot.
Thanks

I haven't seen it anywhere; but maybe try taking it apart and checking to see if the spring connections are making good contact...
So what is that big round thing the two wires are going to? My soldering skills aren't the greatest, so I want to make sure I'm not totally screwed if that's not connected.

All these boards seem to be out of stock
All the replacement USB pcba boards seem to be out of stock. I tried to purchase a USB port to replace the USB with but it's really difficult. Anyone know of a place I could buy the USB pcba board that has them in stock?
Replacement PCBA with USB
I also see it sold out at both Better deals and Blu phone parts.
I am asking (Allview) support in Europe but I don't hold much hope. Anyone else found these anywhere?
I bought mine in AliExpress but I think is out of stock. I found it as" Gionee s8 loud speaker "and the PCB from bluphoneparts
