GPS won't stay locked on - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an issue with my GPS whereby whenever I use Waze / google maps. For the first few minutes, it will run fine. But afterwards, it will keep losing signal for 1-10 seconds, and then lock back location, then lose it again after 1-10 seconds, keep on continuing.
Initially, I thought its the ROM problem. I've literally flashed MOST / near to all of the stock / custom ROMS available. But all still same result.
I've also tried restoring to 100% stock COS / Oxygen, thinking its because I've had too many modifications (custom recovery, root etc). But even after a hard restore (stock recovery, non root, factory reset), its still the same.
I also tried the GPS status & toolbox /Faster GPS app, doesn't help.
Any pros can give some advice? is it some form of hardware problem now, and can it be fixed?
I really appreciate any constructive feedback, as I'm in a dilemma and my OPO is my only phone available. I travel quite often, so I need GPS to be working optimally.
Thanks all!

Different Touch Pro every soft reset

Hi all,
I've got the Touch pro for a few months now and I've tried different roms. I really like it but I have a pretty annoying problem. I've had problems with every rom I've tried and I don't think it's due to the specific roms or the radio roms I use. For instance, I've used the RomeOS and I got terrible gps fix (sometimes need a soft reset to get a fix after 15 mins) I got a bug where the phone app would launch everytime I slid out the keyboard. Also sometimes tf3d just won't start, or very slowly. With the .19 rom I got problems with normal phone reception and text messages were not being sent. Soft resets would help most of the time but not on the long term.
Now I thought I could fix the bad GPS reception with a different radio rom and that seemed to work but after a few days it turned bad again and I needed soft resets and fresh flashes of the radio roms to keep the gps working.
I'm currently using M-rom with the australian radio rom, comming from .19 which was good for a few weeks and then didn't give me any gps locks anymore. As usual it started out good but now after a few days the gps sucks again. Also the phone launching bug is back. The strange thing is that a friend of mine is using the exact same combination of roms with the exact same phone (mda vario IV) and he has no trouble at all. I always do a hard reset before and after a flash (after customization) so I don't think the problems are caused by bad flashes.
Does anyone know what's causing this or what I can do to find out?
Are you installing any additional programs on your TP? Your common denominator may be something you're installing afterwards.
I only use pimbackup to restore the contacts. I don't install much other programs...
Same problem with mine (KPN - Dutch as well). GPS starts to take more and more time after using it for a while. Even worse is not using it for a while and then using it again. My (not optimal) solution: download the QuickGPS data earlier then required, and then turn the phone off using the power button by holding it a bit longer. Subsequently go outside in the garden and start Google maps. Wait a few minutes and pray that you have a fix.

Thunderbolt Gps Issues, and some solutions.

Okay, I've been googling all afternoon. reading and attempting multiple fixes, I would like to state the problem I am having, and the ways at which I have already attempted to solve it. Hopefully this thread can help myself and others with our thunderbolt gps problems.
I've read of people taking forever to get a gps lock, or not being able to obtain a gps lock at all, there are also people who have incredibly inaccurate gps. I have found several things that claim to be able to solve these issues but I've yet to find a thread that offers more than one of these solutions. So I am here to put these all in one place, and hopefully some of you can add to them.
1.) Clearing the gps cache (sense roms only)
dial ##clrgpsx# and hit send
2.) gps status (app from market)
go to menu>tools>manage a-gps state>reset
then menu>tools>manage a-gps state>download
3.) temporarily reverting to a stock rom to obtain a lock
for those of you unable to obtain a lock on a custom rom (this worked for me, but getting a lock is still a little slow)
create a nand backup!!!!!
you will need to download a rom based off of a stock rom, such as plain jane (by jcase)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030608
factory reset and clear cache
boot into the new rom, obtain a gps lock, (navigate somewhere)
boot into recovery, and nand restore
these are all the things that I have been able to come across so far. I am just wanting to put all the gps solutions for tbolt in one thread so we can see what works and what doesn't. I hope this helps some of you, I know I spent 6 hours today google searching, reading forums, and attempting to obtain a gps lock, if creating this thread saves anyone a few minutes of their time, then it was worth it!

Stock Verizon GPS stopped working

So I land in Orlando on vacation, get my rental car, and enter the hotel address into Maps ready to push the navigation button as soon as I'm out of the garage. I do this and gps can't get a fix. I start driving in a random direction assuming it'll get a fix soon. Long story short, it never does!
I've been using gps, maps, navigation all with no issues until now. Had my phone since mid July. Tried restarting, tried battery pull, of course gps on/off a million times. Downloaded a free gps test app - if I was reading it right it seemed to show about 8-12 satellites it was picking up but 0 fixes. It's like the gps hardware is working fine but it won't get a fix on my location.
I'm on stock ROM. Haven't done anything weird or installed any new apps other than a fee games.
Any suggestions? I was counting on having maps/navigation while on vacation.

The only thing I can think of is reprovision/factory reset. *2767*3855#. You'll lose EVERYTHING on your phone though. Make a backup first. If that doesn't work I don't know of any other way to fix GPS.
It sounds like the GPS receiver is working if it shows satelites, it just needs to download the catalog. You might try going outside and running some GPS software for an hour and getting a good download. Or you should be able to download a program like GPSstatus. then go to menu, tools, manage a-gps. From there do a RESET, then a DOWNLOAD. Then go outside for a while and you should start seeing fixes on satellites.
I like worwig's suggestion. I'm not familiar with GPS fixes, so it's great if what he said will work. Reprovisioning tends to fix anything related to radio problems (if IMEI was never lost)

Tried this. Problem still persists. Can't get lock in Maps unless I let it go for over a minute. If I use GPS Test or GPS Status, it IMMEDIATELY reports 27 satellites in view, but shows connected to 0 for a good 20~30 seconds, then slowly starts to connect to one at a time.
Again, fully stock, non-rooted, locked bootloader.
try this in the Market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlab.gpsfix&feature=search_result#?t=W10.
its been listed in other forums that it works, and as i haven't used it myself, will go by what others say that works.
if nothing else, its free

This is the ONLY app I have not tried on the market and I finally got a working gps on my S3 with Synergy Rom & Unlocked bootloader (of course) ... So thank you for the mention of the app!
Thanks to everyone who's tried to help. I've tried everything here except for a factory reset which was my last resort. So far nothing has worked. The first time I did the GPS Test thing, it worked, but then 5 minutes later when I went to use maps, it wasn't working again. I tried the other app - GPSfix as well - nothing. Also spent an hour on the phone with a Verizon Tech trouble shooting - not that I thought they'd know more than I could find on my own here, but figured it was worth a try.
I'll be factory resetting in a week or so (don't wanna do it now cause I don't have time to reset up everything on my phone right now). When I do I'll report back. Also I did find over on droidforums that there are several people who've had this exact same issue with their S3 - GPS worked fine then suddenly didn't work at all. So it may be a bigger glitch that's triggered somehow in some phones. All I know is I need my gps working and reliable on my phone...
If anyone else has had this issue and figured it out, let us know. Otherwise, I'll report back after the factory reset...

Hollywood,
Just out of curiosity, were you ever running Synergy?
With my situation, it took three calls to VZW, and an hour-long phone call to Samsung (which resolved nothing) to get a new phone shipped to me. The only good thing that came from the Samsung phone call was that I used it as ammunition when calling VZW the last time ("Look, I was even on the phone with Samsung tech support for an hour today, and they couldn't help me."). The Samsung rep had never even heard of the term "GPS Lock" and didn't understand the concept. She was totally convinced that if the blue arrow came up in Google Maps, that my GPS was working as it should, despite the still-flashing GPS icon and the "Searching for GPS" message in the pull-down screen. Also, she didn't think it was a problem that my positional accuracy never got closer than 3,400 meters.
A complete factory reset didn't help me; I even used Odin to reload stock, non-rooted, locked bootloader OTA ROM with original kernels, recovery, radios, etc.
I also tried the re provisioning dialer code, which didn't help.
I tried the GPS Fix program, GPS Test, GPS Status, and everything else I thought looked promising. Nothing helped.
GPS Fix helped after initial lock, but only while it kept GPS control. Once it released "fix", Maps would go back to having the same problem getting a lock after a while.
Good luck!
Search for the agps patch. Any forum will work. It works on all android. I just flashed it and I'm running beans. It also works for like cm. I used the 3.1 cwm flashable patch. It locks gos on instantly.

GPS Issues
So now that I have my new SGS3 on the way (should be here in two days) my GPS starts working again out of the blue. No changes to my phone, no new apps. Too weird that after three weeks of it not working right, it suddenly works perfectly again.
At least the issue shouldn't repeat once the completely new phone arrives.

My phone is doing something very similar, it's finding various satellites and finding a fix on 3 of them. Although, in Google Maps and Navigation, it will stay stuck on searching for GPS. This phone has been great since day 1 including GPS, strange that it will stop working just like that. I tried clearing data for Maps, running other GPS utilities, and a factory reset to no avail.
Decided to phone Verizion, and they will send me another S3 (refurb).. Hoping the new one works as it should.

[Q] MT7-L09 : Help needed, After encryption GPS not working

Hi guys,
I need help. Once I encrypted my phone. Location service/GPS is not working on my phone.
Before encryption. There is the location icon always comes up when I access something like Google Maps. even tried installing GPS toolbox. Able to see the satellites and all.
But after encryption, the location icon does not come up. But somehow in High Accuracy mode, it does get somewhere of an approximation of my location.(from network and Wifi).(This does not go well when you are navigating around)
Have you guys encountered this. I have even tried flashing the new L09 Rom and it is still the same.
Also searched around the forums (Looks like the old Samsung phones had this issue where after encryption the GPS would not work). But the post is way back in 2011. And they din follow up on the posts on how it was fixed.
I have factory reset my phone a number of times, flash new rom(the one shared on this forum)
Also played with the settings nothing happens. I still cannot get GPS to work after encryption.
Also another thing I notice is that during the encryption a strange error came up and say that Settings have stopped working. I do not know whether there is a coincidence or not and whether it has anything to do with this GPS problems..
Any help is welcomed. as having a phone with no GPS is really driving me up the wall.

Really sorry for late response - but you can fix this problem using attached file - this is apk from China version of Mate7 make you be able to give (or revoke) access to system data storages (including GPS) to applications.
I had the same problem as you - and using this apk i've fixed it successfully.
it doesn't work for me - can anybody sent printsceen of settings of this app?
Thanks
@nchee + @mireczeque
Have you BOTH re-flashed the stock rom by using the official HUAWEI procedure (i.e. three buttons pressed togheter and ROM saved on DLOAD folder)? If so, do you have ALSO applied a WIPE DATA FACTORY RESET plus a WIPE CACHE PARTITION?
I had some problems with APPS crashing when I tried restoring my HAM with B130. I WIPED everithing and THEN re-flashed fresh B130 from DLOAD sdcard procedure, and everithing worked perfectly. I hope this help.

[Q] GPS Issues after upgrading to 4.4.2

A few months ago, I flashed liquidsmooth 3.1 (4.4.2) to my phone from 4.4.2 in hopes of taking advantage of some of the extra features from kitkat. Everything is working great except that GPS is having a very hard time getting a lock whereas previously I could get a solid lock within seconds.
If I use an app called 'GPS test' it reveals that there are plenty of satellites in view, but only 3 or 4 are being used at a time, which obviously isn't sufficient enough for turn-by-turn navigation. Clearing and updating AGPS in the app settings doesn't seem to have much an effect either.
Ive read some reports about those upgrading to CM11 M11 (which is what my rom is based on) with similar issues...something about corrupting the NVRAM and it having negative effects on the gps that are not simply fixed by wiping data or flashing a different version of cm. Unfortunately, there seems to be an unclear consensus on how to go about managing this issue.
Any ideas?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance!

I've read if you tighten the screws in the back of the phone it seems to work better, after removing the battery cover of course
