[Feature Request] Improved access to new playback speed control - MX Player

So MX Player finally has playback speed adjustment (yay!) but unfortunately the method of accessing it cumbersome (if you don't want to use gestures). Fortunately that's just a UI issue (which I suspect is considerably easier to fix than implementing the speed control in the first place).
The problems that I see are a follows:
1. You have to dig down several menus deep to reach it.
2. The speed control overlay remains permanently on screen and does not hide with the rest of the onscreen controls. If you close it because you want to see the full screen without the clutter, then every time you want to make a speed adjustment you have to drill back down through the menu, make the adjustment, and then close the window again.
3. Once the playback speed adjustment overlay window has been closed, there is no longer any visual feedback as to the current playback speed.
4. Because the playback speed control is a separate overlay window (rather than being attached to the rest of the onscreen controls) it jumps around all over the place when the other controls appear and disappear (causing mis-clicks if, for example, you are trying to repeatedly tap the + or - buttons to adjust speed).
What I would like to propose is a single speed control icon button (with digits showing the current playback speed) that displays as part of the regular onscreen controls. For example, it could be placed next to the HW+ button on the top control bar (although if I had my own way, I would move the lock button up next to the HW+, then move the 'fit to screen' to where the lock button was (to the left of the rewind / go back button), and then put the new playback speed button in it's place (to the right of the fast forward button). But that's just me.
Anyway, regardless of positioning, it would be incredibly useful to always be able to see the current playback speed with just with a single tap (because it would display as part of regular oncreen controls) as well as being able to easily adjust speed with from the main screen without having to drill through menus.
A slider control would allow quick adjustment of large speed changes instead of having to go tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, and it would make speed adjustments more fluid from a usage point of view. The slider could still be 'notched' to adjust in steps if the user drags slowly (so that reaching an exact playback speed value can be achieved if required).
Another idea that I've just had is perhaps there could be an option to display the speed control slider by long-pressing the play button. That seems as intuitive a place to control playback speed as anywhere else. The current playback speed could be displayed as digits either above or below the play button itself (so you'd always know the current speed).
Just some suggestions for your consideration.
Cheers.

I think you not aware of the gestures.
Just swipe up/down with two fingers to change the playback speed. I think, there can't be a fastest way than this one.

I am perfectly aware of gestures, which is why I mentioned it in the very first sentence of my post above.

My point is that: (a) gestures are not a replacement for good UI design (they are an additional means of accessing a feature), and (b) I don't want to use gestures for playback speed because I use gestures for zoom and pan (and it's a nightmare trying to pan without constantly messing up playback speed by accident).
I already get enough grief from messing with the volume whenever I try to swipe down to check my phone notifications (I would much prefer a volume slider). I don't need the same with playback speed too.
The existence of a gesture control does not mean that the menu method of access can't also be improved for a better user experience for users who do not want to use gestures.

I would love a playback speed option easily accessible once I touch the screen, rather than the 2 fingers gesture or going into audio options, it would be so great to have it appear on 1 click and then we adjust the speed.

From 1.9.1 you can now use Ctrl + UP/Down keys on the physical keyboard to increase and reduce the speed.
Regarding more easily accessible UI option, We have some plans for UI improvements in future (after implementing some other important features). It will be implemented as a part of UI overhauling.

It would be great if there would have been an option to select the physical buttons to control the playback speed. This is suitable for android TV controls. By default up/down buttons on android TV remotes for example are used to control volume, which is useless on TV. These buttons would be perfect to control playback speed instead.

Each remote has different buttons & they provide different key input. We use the standard key events defined on android itself.
Probably your remote have separate keys for volume button. But, in many devices (especially android boxes) only DPAD is exists.
So, configuring UP/Down to control the speed will cause issues with them. And many people uses external keyboards as well. It will break that too.
Anyhow, we will discuss the other possibilities with our team and we will improve the same if it's possible.

The touchpro "D-Pad"

Apologies if this has been thoroughly covered, I went back 4-5 pages in each forum but didn't see anything.
From what I can gather from reviews and youtube videos the D-pad on the Touch pro works like a standard D-pad, and when in opera can be used to zoom in by circling it with a finger like a click wheel on an Ipod. Is it possible to modify it to work as a scroll wheel instead of a "zoom wheel". I know this isn't an option out of the box, but is it something that's possible, or being worked on?
I'm considering from the tilt, and while I've convinced myself that I don't need the hard left and right buttons, or the email & browser buttons, I'm not sure I'll be able to get used to working without any kind of jog dial/scroll wheel.
I think it's been asked and the answer is not yet.
The D-pad is one of the things I really don't like about the phone though, the buttons are all on the same plane, not separated in any way, and that makes it very difficult to differentiate the d-pad from the home/back/send/end buttons. I didn't find it was a problem until playing games, when I kept minimizing the window by hitting the Back button.
oh... the touch pro has a d-pad??? omg ive had the phone for almost a month and i only just discovered it. i thought it was just a scroll thing. its really hard to press though..

Well I don't really play a whole lot of games on my phone, but I do read a lot of really long email threads, and more importantly, when I'm bored I read sites like overheardinnewyork.com which is basically a lot of text to scroll through.
I'm getting the feeling that I'm going to have to find a way to "play" with a TP and see if I love it or not. I went 8125, x01ht, tilt, and now I'm looking to upgrade. but if this phone isn't going to rock me, I'll hold out (for what I don't know).
As much as I like flashing new roms to my tilt, it seems all anyone does is try to rip the best features from other phones...so at some point I might as well just get the other phone.
Diamond Tweak 0.5.3 allows you to enable d-pad scrolling for some applications.

Hmmm, looks promising. Have you tried it? I just can't imagine I'd ever use the zoom feature, although up to now I've used opera mini, so perhaps after switching to opera mobile I'd change my mind. But I'm still pretty sure I'd prefer to double tap the screen to zoom, and have another means of scrolling.
I have tried it and it works well for contacts (useful), programs etc but does not work with my Yahoo inbox (possibly due to the ROM I am using - ROmeOS v1.22) and it does not replace the zoom in opera. You can set up custom applications in DiamondTweak so it may be possible to overcome any differences between ROM's by setting up a custom application. I do use the zoom in opera so wouldn't want to replace it.
You can still double tap to zoom in/out on opera, as well as the wheel - the wheel lets you zoom in/out in small increments, double tapping toggles between full page and zoomed in.

Think about this, with Opera Mobile you'll only have 2 levels of zoom ("in" or "out") unless you use the wheel to zoom. I liked being able to use it to fine tune and get things to look just right, but that's me. Try it out and see what you think.
With newer versions of Opera Mobile, there is now an on-screen zoom slider that adds a "tap and slide" button for incremental zooming. Now I find myself wanting an alternative to scrolling, since my finger otherwise covers up part of the screen and might accidentally click a link. Unfortunately the arrows and dpad don't scroll the page but instead jump from link to link.
This has been one detail (although a minor detail) that has made be begin to consider replacing my TP with the X1, since the X1's optical sensor dpad apparently provides scrolling functionality.

use advance config 3.3 ........search for the link
go to options, click smart touch and it allows you to add any application, where in touch wheel (above D Pad) can be used for scrolling......i use it for contacts, file manager, program, call history, phone window, mails, messages and its really usefull and very cool........i dont use it for opera and internet explorer and use it for zooming as put in default

Thanks for the info. As I said, I haven't picked up the TP yet, I'm holding out for the Fuze (or a reasonably priced GSM model).
To change gears a bit, I'm curious, what kind of difference do people see in using cooked Roms on this device. I only ask because as a Kaiser user I'm used to using Roms because they incorporate features from the latest equipment. But as this is among the newest models out, and a "flagship" phone so to speak...is there much of an advantage over say a stock ATT rom minus the bloat? I enjoy high level of customization, and being able to pick my features, but as this is a relatively new device, I don't want to go through the trouble of unlocking and flashing if there isn't going to be a real gain in performance/features, or if it's going to impact performance (like trying to run Manilla 2d on a Kaiser, and pretending that a 5 second screen rotate time is ok)
PS: just for the record, despite my incredibly low post count, I've been lurking on the board for ~2 years...I'm not some (I hate this word) newb asking "what rom is best" or "can someone explain to me how to XXX reading the Wiki is too much work"...just wanted to throw that out there.
Volume buttons for scroll
Review on wmexperts of Sprint Touch Pro has the information below in the comments area. Looks like the reviewer followed up with the statement that he used AE Buttons to remap the volume buttons on the side, where the scroll wheel is on 8525/Tilt to scroll up and down with each click. I don't have Fuze, but it seems like this would work on it as well, I don't think it's a free softare though.
http://www.wmexperts.com/reviews/smartphones/review_24_hours_with_the_sprin.html
Buttons: I have successfully used AE Buttons to successfully remap the volume up and down buttons. I have the volume down button set at one click to scroll down and a log click for OK/Enter. The volume up button is set at one to scroll up and the log click Alt/Tab Wisbar's switch utility. I have also remapped the Back button to OK/Enter. The Home button now brings down the Start Menu on a single click and Email when I hold it down. This has made life a lot easier and has in virtually increased my available hardware buttons to a more comfortable level of usable buttons.

How have you managed to get AEButton working on your home button?
I found that the home and back buttons seem to be "hard coded" to do their tasks, and AEbutton only assigns an *additional* task to each button. In other words, when I press Home for start menu, it first goes home, and then opens start. If I map the back button to Camera, it first goes back an application screen, then launches camera. Very annoying. The only buttons I found AEButton works with is the vol up and down. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Adjust volume with keys without pause/stop/break video playback in full screen

Greetings.
I want to share what i discovered with this subject and help people to finally use their HD2 as it was suppose to be from the beginning. You are probable all very annoyed by the fact that it is not possible to adjust volume in any video player using volume keys and not to break video playback, especially in full screen mode.
Well, that's history. I found that VolumeX ( http://volumex.jdbp.mobi/default.htm ) can do just that. You can adjust volume in any video player with volume keys without pause/stop/break video playback even in full screen mode...
To activate this ability you have to, of course, install VolumeX and after that you have to alter one registry entry.
Go to HKLM\Software\JDB Pocketware\Volumex\EXCEPS
and there you can add app that would be able to use this ability of VolumeX (you must add class name of the application, it can be found with dotfred's TaskManager on window tab; http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm).
Here is what i add in exception list:
1|HTCYOUTUBE;1|FMRadioMain;1|WMP for Mobile Devices;1|MunichWinClass;1|PlayerFullScreenWindowClass;1|AudioBoosterClass;1|wCorePlayer;1|PocketMusic;1|MYFSPLAYER;1|FspVideoDispWnd
Thankx JDB for this app...
I'm trying volumex, and your tip seems to work great. I actually don't understand why this is not standard (and the whole of Volumex idea)...
Thanks.
Working well, but now I can't get the "volume screen" when I press volume buttons even outside the exception programs. Any idea?
Here are my exceptions:
1|wCorePlayer;1;1|PocketPlayer;1|PocketMusic;1|HTCYOUTUBE;1|FMRadioMain;1|WMP for Mobile Devices;1|MunichWinClass;1|PlayerFullScreenWindowClass;1|AudioBoosterClass;1|FspVideoDispWnd
Thanks
BTW, I'm using and HD2 with Miri's 6.5.x v16 ROM
Solved by JDB, thanks.

Getting rid of Galaxy S8 Navigation Bar - Full screen navigation

Hello! I thought I should share a fairly simple solution to what I think is the Galaxy S8's worst feature: the navigation bar. I'm all for the bigger screen ratio but with such a large portion of the bottom end constantly covered by the navigation keys, I found myself nostalgic for my old S6's soft keys. Samsung's update to allow hiding of the navigation keys worked to an extent, but I found swiping up just to press the back key quite frustrating. This paired with the fact that there was no way to get the nav bar off the home screen and the S8's inability to use swipe gestures through apps like Pie Control or All in one Gestures was infuriating. Here is my solution to the problem.
Disclaimer: Please follow the steps in order as the apk listed will completely disable the navigation bar. There will be no way to navigate your device if you do not follow the prior steps. All credit for the apk listed goes to Tigerhoods. Thank you so much for your work.
1. Download the apps All in one Gestures, Pie Control, and App Cloner. Each app is essential to properly setting up this workaround.
2. Enable each app to use accessibility services.
3. Go into Pie Control and set up the bottom edge with a pie that has the back key, home, and recents. This will act temporarily as your navigation bar once the apk is installed. To set up Pie Control: turn on the bottom edge, go to level1 of edge, set up button 1, 2, and 3 with recents, home, and back nav keys (these nav settings are found under the Tools menu), and click the plus in the bottom right corner to save. Make sure everything is fully set up before proceeding.
4. Download this apk:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4188536&d=1497996764
Again, all credit for this download goes to Tigerhood. Amazing work.
Restart your device after installing to have the APK take effect.
This apk will completely disable the nav bar. To complete the following steps you will use Pie Control to use the back, home, and recents keys. If you wish to get the navbar back, simply go into settings, go into apps, scroll down to com.whalesplaho.frameworkresov..., click on it, and uninstall. I highly recommend completing all the steps before going back to the crappy built-in navigation bar.
5. Now that there is no longer a navigation bar and your phone is more beautiful than ever, it's time to set up a more permanent navigation bar. Go into All in one Gesture and enable swiping (make sure to allow it to use accessibility features: go into settings, accessibility, turn on for All in one Gesture). Turn on bottom area and set it to back (or recents if you prefer Samsung's style of navigating). Swipe from the left side of the screen to open the hamburger menu (or press the three lines to the left of the apps name at the top o the screen). Go into Personization then Edge Preference. I suggest you use my settings, but feel free to adjust to your own tastes once you get a feel for the app.
Opacity: 0%
Corner Size: 75px
Edge Sensitivity: 40px
Edge Width: 20%
Horizontal Offset: -20% (Make this a negative value so that it goes to the left!)
Vertical Offset: 20%
Swipe Distance: 0px
This will allow the bottom left of your screen to become the back (or recents) key. You can either swipe up from the bottom left or tap right where the bezel meets the screen. If it's too sensitive, turn the Edge Sensitivity setting down. If you wish to only use swipe and not be able to tap the key, turn up the Swipe Distance setting. If you accidentally hit the keys while typing (I rarely do), simply turn on Behind Keyboard under Personalization.
You may which to turn the opacity up at first so that you know where to press/swipe.
6. Since All in one Gesture only allows the bottom to be used for one setting, we must clone the app to make a virtual key for the other side of the bottom. Go into App Cloner, find All in one Gesture, press flip icon (to make it recognizable as the cloned app), and name it All in one Gesture2 (or something of the sort). Once the app is cloned, find it on your home screen and follow the same instructions laid out in step 5. One key difference: make sure to put the Horizontal Offset as 20% (this will move the virtual key to the right instead of the left). Also in Personalization, under General, I suggest turning on the light theme so you can tell the difference between the cloned and original app.
7. Now that the back and recents keys are set up, customize Pie Control to your liking. I like having the entirety of level 1 be a home key so that it is super easy to access.
8. Enjoy using your s8 the way it should be used.
Issues:
-The hard press home key does not work when the screen is on.
-Pie Control and All in one Gesture only work when the device is unlocked. If you go into Bixby, Camera, or one of the App Shortcuts on the left and right of your lockscreen it may seem impossible to get out of without a navigation bar/home button. To get out of the app you are in simply pull down the notifications shade and click on the settings icon. You will then be prompted to enter your password. Once the device is unlocked you can use Pie Control/All in one Gesture to navigate normally. UPDATE: If you have a Bixby remapper app you can enable the Bixby button to be used as a back button. I use BxActions and it works perfectly.
If for some reason the apk doesnt download, here is the thread I found it on:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...y-overlays-t3604341/post72746018#post72746018
The apk is found on page 84.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any feedback or get stuck on any of the steps.
Thanks for sharing. However, I use a much simpler solution: I've installed BxActions and am always one click away from full immersive mode. I got rid of the "point" soft button too - don't need it anymore.
yes as last post said since June or July firmware just click on point on the navbar on left and it will be full screen and hidden everywhere except on launcher, just swipe up from the very bottom of the screen to make appear navbar for a few seconds
(this option can be activated or deactivated on settings/display/navigation bar)

That is a possibility, however, I found it quite annoying having to swipe up and click to use the navigation keys. Also, swipe gestures (Pie Control) don't work and there was no way to get rid of the navigation bar from the home screen. Ultimately, I find this workaround to be much more convenient than Samsung's built-in fullscreen feature.
Thanks for sharing loving it so far ended up paying for app cloner so I could clone it a third time and get rid of pie control all together so much better this way and so far no issues I'll be testing it more and let you know.
This is absolutely brilliant, all without root as well.
Just curious, will it slow down the phone if i have 3 all in one gestures running?

It all depends on how much RAM you are using. If you are running a lot of memory intensive applications, you may notice a slight slowdown. I am running a lot of stuff on my phone and have no problems with 2 gestures running. So 3 could work, you just have to test it out.
I suggest testing out Pie Control before setting up a third gesture. Pie Control is the best form of multitasking out there. I have customized mine to get to all my frequently used apps. You can even have shortcuts and system activities (like flashlight). Really useful.
I used to use LMT but that needs root. It's working nicely with a 3rd clone atm.

Haven't noticed any slow down and the phone looks so much better. I prefer the 3rd gesture over pie control simply because of looks. Pie control could be better but I couldn't stand the look of the wheel especially as I just need it as a home button right now. Only problems I've run into is using ultra power saving mode and switching back somehow disables the function of the apk and disables all accessibility services I had previously enabled? Had to restart the phone to get rid of nav bar and turn all accessibility services back on. I'll keep testing it and report back. Somewhat complicated solution but quite elegant in the end result.
Can you provide a screenshot on how this looks like?

The screen looks normal, just without the Navigation Bar and with invisible virtual keys at the bottom bezel.

If for some reason the apk doesnt download, here is the thread I found it on:

The apk is found on page 84.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any feedback or get stuck on any of the steps.

I use Button Mapper to have Bixby button set up for long press = back button
So I can easily get out of apps like camera launched from lockscreen ?

Smart, just tried it and it works perfectly.
and muviz how work ?
Or you guys can just use Swipe Navigation app to use the bottom edge like an invisible nav bar with all three buttons on the bottom edge without having to do all the app cloning stuff.

Yeah, I actually used Swipe Navigation for a bit but I found that it wasn't super reliable for some reason. Kept crashing and then I couldn't navigate my device at all. I find All in one Gesture to be the most reliable gesture app.
i'm using Swipe Navigation without any issues

Again, all credit for this download goes to Tigerhood. Amazing work.
Restart your device after installing to have the APK take effect.

I just use force press for home with all in one gesture swipe from left for recent and swipe from fright from back. Feels more of a natural extension to the OS ( used BBOS10 device as my messenger before upgrading to a PRIV)
anybody still use this?
the Samsung launcher and some Samsung apps like Gallery doesn't like with the removal of nav bar, for example the dock is still on the same spot even though there is no nav bar(used to be on the very bottom).
any workaround?

Please add the function of "long press the screen to play at multiple speeds"!

Hello developer!
Can Mxplayer add the following functions in subsequent versions?
That is, long press the screen at any position to realize multiple speed playback, and release the screen to restore the default playback speed (1x). In addition, long press the screen speed can be customized (1-4x)! Sometimes for some boring scenes, such as the opening song or gags, you can skip by long pressing the screen speed!
Refer to the video recorded in the attachment for specific examples:
Hello, is anyone there?

[APP][5.0+] Easy Slider - Edge gestures to control volume, brightness and launch apps

Adjust volume, brightness and launch apps with edge swipe gestures any time.
Easy Slider enables the easiest and most comfortable way to adjust volume and brightness of your device when browsing videos or playing games. It also lets you launch your favorite apps or switch to recent apps effortlessly.
No need to use physical buttons or notifications panel to change the volume or brightness from one video to another; place your device off your hands or hold it with one hand, you can increase or decrease the volume instantly by just a single swipe or set brightness easily on any screen and any time you want. What's more, you can launch pinned or recent apps from the new advanced slider menu easily.
Easy Slider allows performing swipe actions on selected side of the screen. It displays an overlay over other apps, which is always available when the screen is unlocked (except while some system apps which display over of the overlay are open in the foreground).
You can start using Easy Slider with the default settings, but if you want to modify the app according to your preferences, you can change every parameter you need from the configurations.
Features of Easy Slider:
Always available overlay area for swipe detection
Quick swipe up/down to increase/decrease volume by desired steps
Hold after swipe to show volume slider for specific adjustment. Continue holding and swipe to set volume.
Swipe up/down and then inwards to mute/unmute volume
Double tap and swipe up/down to adjust brightness. Double tap and swipe inwards to toggle auto/manual mode.
(New in v2.70) Swipe up followed by down, or down followed by up to set volume to your defined preset level
Swipe inwards to display advanced slider. Pin apps to quickly launch them. See recent apps and switch easily.
(New in 3.00) Apply custom icon packs, set matching menu icon style
Alternative way to set volume and brightness on advanced slider
Transparent display of the swipe area with adjustable opacity and color
Configurable swipe area position and offset for both portrait and landscape orientations
Configurable swipe area width and height
Suitable for left and right hand usage
Single hand usage
Volume increase and decrease steps, min and max levels adjustable
Enable/disable service
Auto start on boot if left enabled
No battery usage
Tip: If you start by swiping up/down, it's volume gesture; if you start with tap and then swipe, it's brightness gesture.
Apart from these, don't forget that swiping inwards shows the advanced slider menu.
Notes:
Display over other apps permission is required for this app to run. It allows the app to stay and register touches on top of other apps. You can follow the "Initialize the app" menu to enter the related setting.
Although this app doesn't use any battery in the background, disabling battery optimization may be necessary depending on your system. It's highly recommended to disable battery optimization for this app to prevent it from being stopped by the operating system. You can follow the "Initialize the app" menu to enter the related setting.
This app may not work as expected on devices with edge display. You may need to increase swipe area width to high values, which means using more of the screen as overlay.
The main focus of this app is to let the user adjust the volume (and brightness) using gestures which do not become tiresome after some use. Later, other features have been added.
How to start using the app?
Just follow the toast notification instructions. (Enter "Initialize the app" menu, grant permissions, press the Start floating button. Then I suggest you check out the other configuration menus to adjust the app according to your preference.)
What are the available gestures?
The screens and video on Play Store page shows every available gesture and feature.
Get it on Google Play Store
Reserved.
Just upping as the app improved a lot more since the last post. If you have suggestions let me know.
