He probably just wanted a reconfirmation that it really works. I'm wondering the same Btw, because rooting for me normally means also to have a modified system folder by busybox or AdAway and all my previous phones did not allow to simply use an OTA file.
Would you be so kind and elaborate more? Thanks a lot!

Every time when update is coming you have to flash stock boot and recovery (current version).
Because, rooting process changed boot. And to get root you installed TWRP (custom recovery) before.
You don't need relock bootloader only, cause update will do it self (in most cases).
Finally, you have to unlock bootloader and get root again.

Should I re-lock the bootloader?

Hi everyone,
I have D6603 with with Android 5.1.1 (23.4.A.0.546) with an unlocked bootloader (done per instructions on Sony's website).
For a while now I've noticed that the device overheats when I use the camera for a few minutes. According to this article,
the new update Sony have released, is supposed to mitigate the problem.
I cannot update my phone to the new Android version, because of the unlocked bootloader.
Can/should I re-lock the bootloader? Or is there a way to stop the overheating issue?

Thanks for the info Beetle. May I be so rude to ask you, where I can get the most up to date flashable ROM?
I did unlock the bootloader, but never managed to install a recovery mod or get root.

In flashtool theres a button labelled xperifirm, if you click that and follow the instructions you can download a ftf directly.
As for root and recovery, you can use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056 , and then create a pre rooted 5.1.1 firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904
Or you can install androplus kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/development/kernel-andropluskernel-t2925999 after you upgrade to stock 5.1.1 with fastboot, and skip the whole downgrade to kit kat which would be alot quicker.
Wow, that seems easy enough. I'll try it later tonight. Thanks again!

No worries, good luck. You may have to disable virus protection to download xz dual recovery installer, well, I have to anyway, my VP doesnt like the install.bat file.
EDIT: isn't the .546 the latest?
Not sure... My phone tells me there is a system update, but it always fails because of the unlocked bootloader.

You can unroot and update via OTA but when you have a unlocked bootloader OTA's are always risky.
Just download latest ROM for your phone and flash it, instruction are also given and is pretty easy and safe.

No. Just start flashing according to the instruction. Root is a system level thing and does not interrupt in flashing. You have to root again after flashing unless it is a pre-rooted rom.
But as you are upgrading first flash stock motorola rom whichever is latest.

Look you can do flashing and upgrading in more than one way.
Just follow this link and do exactly what it says: If you have any question PM me, I will gladly help.
Also by flashing this way your recovery will be replaced by stock recovery and you have to reflash TWRP.
Your phone will be completely stock and all data will be erased.
Note:
Read very carefully before doing anything.
Also download correct rom for your device. The model no. should match.

Unlock/Root/TWRP OTA updates?

I've only had two phones prior to this but I have always unlocked the boot loader / rooted the device / installed a custom recovery / installed custom ROMS.
I believe with my MOTO X 1st gen this disabled the OTA updates.
Is that the case with the Honor 8? I'm wondering if it is worth it to install TWRP at this point as there seems to be so little in the way of kernels and ROMS.
Would I still be able to use SU or Xposed modules without Root?
What is the best move with this phone?
I have unlocked my bootloader as well as rooted my Honor 8. The only way to get SU and Xposed is by doing both of these procedures(root involves getting TWRP).
As for any Xposed modules, I tried amplify+greenify but instead of getting better battery life, my standby time decreased significantly. I am not sure why, but for some reason my Cell standby was showing to be eating a ton of my battery. Another big problem was that the dialer app would not let me call anyone, it kept crashing whenever I tried to. Both problems were fixed after I managed to get amplify+greenify uninstalled. Currently I am just running YouTube AdAway and MinMinGuard which seem to work fine.
So at this point, is it worth unlocking bootleader, installing TWRP, and rooting your phone? Well if there are certain Xposed modules that you really want then sure, and if there are certain apps you like that require root, then yes go ahead and root your phone. Note that if you try any OTA updates, you will have to remove TWRP as having your phone automatically restart and try to install the update wont work.
Imagine that the Honor 8 receives an update to say, Nougat, what is the pathway to update for someone who has rooted their phone. Will the OTA be able to be flashed if a .zip is provided here? Would we need to flash an entirely new ROM?
This is what I faced with my MOTO X. When Marshmallow came out there was talk... but no one was working on the at phone any longer so was never able to update.

It doesnt matter whether or not your phone is rooted. You will get updates the same way, through OTA. Of course you can find .zip files to flash(although personally I am struggling to get the latest update flashed through TWRP).
The real question is for how long will we be receiving updates? Nougat is pretty much guaranteed with the new EMUI update. Huawei/Honor has promised up to 2 years of updates from what I have heard, but who knows what that actually means. They have also have a "partnership" with XDA, and the phone is decently popular so I am sure there will be a few roms, just not as many as say a OP3.
Why are people trying to flash via TWRP if the OTA updates still work after rooting and unlocking the boot loader?

Okay so I just figured it out, but for the OTA update to work after rooting and having a non-stock recovery, you need to go to Settings->Updater->Menu(located on the bottom)->Download latest full package.
The full package is ~1.6GB and the regular update is ~280mb. The full package will work even if you have TWRP installed. But if you want the regular 280mb update, you need to get rid of TWRP and go back to a stock recovery.
Of course you will need to reinstall TWRP and root your phone again after doing this update.

I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean you can see the text "Download latest full package" but it is greyed out? If so please check to see if you arent currently at the latest version. If there is another problem, you might want to try to find a .zip of the full package and flash it that way.

No I am in the US. I am not sure about the EU version, but yes if you can find a .zip update file just put it on your phone and go into TWRP to install it. Might wanna make a backup too and wipe cache too just in case.
So if i download the full package in update and install it, bootloader will still be open? No full wipe? And later i only need to install twrp and root the phone again?

Updating or wiping your phone does not lock the Bootloader. The only way to lock the Bootloader again is by doing it manually yourself.
Yes after doing a full update you will need to reinstall TWRP as it will be replaced with the stock recovery and then re-root your phone again.
Rakeen70210, you sound really confident about doing full updates after rooting. Will these full updates also replace the kernel?
palendrome87 and NAS420 could you guys report back with any success or errors you have flashing full updates?
Where can one download full updates for Honor 8?

Seeing as how the full update package was ~1.65GB in size, I think its ok to assume that it replaces everything with the stock Honor 8 image. So yes it will replace the kernel too.
For downloading full updates, the only way I got mine was an OTA directly from the phone itself. Look at my previous comments to see how I got this update. If for some reason you cant update, check if your model is ready for an update. If it is and you cant update, try to flash back to a stock image. You should be able to find one on this site or anywhere else.

No, the only way to lock the bootloader is to manually lock it yourself using a similar operation to unlocking it.

I thought the same thing, but after taking the full OTA update my bootloader was locked again. If you want to update I would suggest first making a full backup to the external SD card in TWRP.
Then , its better to download Ă  full update ( update.zip) ,copy to root of the phone , reboot in twrp and flash it ? Anyone already did it ?

If you have TWRP installed, just flash a SuperSU zip (i.e. SuperSU 2.79 SR3) in recovery and you'll be rooted.
Unless of course you're talking about going back to Lineage and re-rooting. In that case, you'll have to use the Lineage root zip, which I don't have a link to.

It depends. It could be a .tar file you flash via Odin or it could be a flashable zip via TWRP. It depends on the maker of the file.
It's just the modem.bin file from the update. I don't have the time to make one for it right now.

On a side note, it seems like Verizon read the recent articles where the Galaxy S5 was still rated as the most popular smart phone being used on any network. Meaning, they are updating the phone monthly now, which is good news for us. We won't ever get Nougat but apparently we'll get Security Patches monthly now.

Since there no tut regarding an unlocked version of this update I simply updated from bpb1 to qa1 , just needed my modem to be somewhat up to date , but it seems that it's def a tx rx issue in my case , so my best bet is a custom kernel with that feature included.

I didn't think a tutorial was necessary as I've never had to give one in the past. If your device is unlocked, you should know it. That's the only reason there is a Dev Friendly version of the update. It won't unlock your bootloader, but it won't lock it if it is unlocked. That's the only reason I make a Developer Bootloader Friendly version of updates.
If you want to update your modem but not the firmware, open either of the files in 7zip/WinZip, extract the modem.bin, then repackage it as a .tar file and flash it in Odin.

In regard to your previous post, there is no problem with the MD5 for either file or any problem with the files themselves. I test them both before uploading them to prevent problems like this for people. I flashed the Dev Friendly version on both of my eMMc 15 S5's and experienced zero problems. The phone will hang on the "Verizon logo" for a minute or two at first boot but it will go past it and continue to "Optimizing" after that.
If you flash the Stock version, if your bootloader is unlocked, it will lock it and in order to re-unlock it, you'll have to use jrkruse's unlock method which requires you to go back to PB1. As of this post, he has not created a QD1 bootloader unlocker. The latest bootloader unlocker he has created is for QC2, which still requires you to have an unlocked bootloader prior to flashing it.
EDIT: Also, if you use an app like Package Disabler Pro to disable applications without root, it can cause updates to hang indefinitely at first boot if you don't re-enable all disabled applications and turn off/remove Admin rights for Package Disabler Pro prior to updating. I've experienced this in the past with both of my S5's and my S7. I'm not directing this at you KazuDante, this is just a warning to all.

No. The Developer Bootloader Friendly version is just that, friendly to devices with a Developer Bootloader. Meaning it won't remove Developer Bootloader status/lock the bootloader.
If I had figured out a way to help all of the eMMc 11 people unlock their bootloader, I would've made a thread that clearly stated that.
I think the only way people with Toshiba eMMc's will get an unlocked bootloader is if either
A: Verizon provides an update to unlock the bootloaders on all S5's AFTER they stop putting out Security Updates, which is highly unlikely since it is Verizon, they've never done it before, and there's no end to Security Updates in sight.
B: Someone at Samsung or Verizon leaks an engineering bootloader. This is the most likely scenario since it's happened before. First, in my experience, with the VZW S3, and the latest being with the S7. There's still hope but it may rely on someone from within Verizon or Samsung feeling bad for us.
Sorry
@Dudash Any idea how to go from the Dev-friendly QD1 version you uploaded to a TWRP flashable zip file which resembles the jrkruse VZW_QA1_STOCK_ROOTED_DEODEXED.zip? I really like to debloat and root before flashing. Thanks!

2 If i upgrade to B360 should I loose the root? When yes, how can I root my phone?
3 If i upgrade to B360, can I use Xposed Modules as with B151,
Thanks You for your Help!!!

You will only lose root and xpose. Theres a thread in here about the twrp for emui 5. Start from that if you want root again xpose included.

In my experience the only solution to this is to backup data, then if possible, use firmware updater (can downloadn in playstore) then download the b360 update with the Full ota-mf-pv tag. Flash it using dload method. About thw dload method search the honor 6x threads cause i dont use it. I did not encounter this problem when updating

Is the build number and system update present? If it is im glad to know that. If you really want to root your phone the go to this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/twrp-t3583413
It will answer all your questions about that
Be advise that emui 5 uses a different twrp version than emui 4.1 just reaf op's post and you will be fine
