It all started with me flashing a new rom. Okay, i was vaguely knowing what i was doing and it went without any problems. After that i noticed it had come with magisk, so I checked out magisk as i had never used it before. Got myself the uninstall zip in case anything went sideways and installed a module, then rebooted. Bad idea. The module apparently wasn't compatible with my device or my installation or whatever , making my phone get stuck while booting (at the SAMSUNG symbol). Okay, that's really bad, but i do know that you can get into download mode from here, so that's what i did. And no, i can't boot into recovery mode. Tried to get there every step of the way and it just doesn't want to work. Even
Code:
adb reboot recovery
doesn't want to work, which is quite depressing.
Eventually got hold of a stock .tar.md5, tried to flash it, bam.

Hi,
I have the same issue last week!
Your phone it's just FINE ! You only mess up "the original recovery and must be redone properly"!
For a fresh & clean install, you need (I recommend you to use the files from the LINKs provided):
- the latest TRWP Recovery - LINK
- the latest firmware (Nougat) - LINK and "hidden file" - LINK
- or a custom ROM for your S6 version - LINK.
To resolve, do the following:
1. Open Odin and uncheck "Auto Reboot";
2. Enter in Downloading Mode (home + vol DW + power button) on your S6 and connect to PC;
3. Flash in AP Odin the latest TRWP Recovery (don't close the Odin program);
4. Press "Reset" on Odin, disconnect the phone from your PC and enter again in Downloading Mode (home + vol DW + power button) and reconnect to PC;
5. Check "Auto Reboot" on Odin and flash again the TRWP Recovery in AP Odin (the phone will reboot);
6. When the phone reboot, by pressing continuously "home + vol UP + power button", enter in Recovery Mode;
7. In TRWP you must wipe everything (Dalvik, System, Data, Cache etc) including "Format Data" <<< it's mandatory;
8. Restart the phone and enter again in Recovery Mode by pressing continuously "home + vol UP + power button" and wipe again Dalvik, System, Data, Cache etc and "Format Data" - just to be sure ;
9. Download a custom ROM, copy to your phone and install it normally in TRWP.
After you done the first 8 steps and if you want to flash the latest original firmware (Nougat), do the following:
10. Donwload the original firmware and rename it in "xxxxxxx_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxxx_HOME.tar" (i mean, delete ".md5" from the end of the name);
11. Extract "hidden.img" file from original firmware and copy to your PC and rename it in "hidden.img.tar";
12. Enter in Downloading Mode (home + vol DW + power button) and on Odin, uncheck "Auto Reboot";
13. Flash the original firmware in AP Odin;
14. Don't close the Odin program but now check "Auto Reboot" on Odin;
15. Press "Reset" on Odin, disconnect the phone from your PC and enter again in Downloading Mode (home + vol DW + power button) and reconnect to PC (on Odin "Auto Reboot" must be checked);
6. Flash "hidden.img.tar" in AP Odin;
7. The phone reboot automatically and you will have the original firmware.

Still doesn't want to boot into recovery. It's just stuck at boot and the only thing i can actually boot into is the download mode. As for the original firmware, I've tried that but apparently I got hold of the wrong version or something. Currently downloading what I assume is the right one from rapidgator at a whopping 50~KBps, so that'll take another 4 hours. Thanks for trying to help though, I appreciate it.
EDIT: Leaving it on overnight drained the battery. I'm now trying to cheese my way into recovery mode by just holding down volume UP + home + power when it's drained but apparently it's too drained and doesn't start at all. Maybe i can get it to the point where it'll automatically turn off but I still have a % of battery life left?

There's probably no way I'm going to get the serial number seeing as i can't just open the back of the phone and i don't know where the box is that it came in.

It should be written at the bottom of the back cover, not behind it. (At least that's the case with EU models)
If that's not the case with your phone and you don't have the original box then you can try this:
Hold the power, home, and volume down buttons until the warning screen appears. Then press the home button.

You must find your S/N somehow, i don't think there is other way to restore your phone.

Doesn't seem to work, pressing home just puts me into download mode and I believe I remember throwing the box away like a moron. There's nothing on/under the glass on the back either. I guess i'll have to try out the other stock firmware images i'm still downloading.

Men, mine too! My 920F was in the same situation!
If you follow the steps i wrote, it work! None of this program will repair your phone "SmartSwitch", "Kies" etc.
Believe me, i tried all possibilities ! You must repair your recovery. Otherwise, nothing you can do!
Flash provided TWRP Recovery in AP on ODIN (first, with uncheck Auto Reboot and second with Auto Reboot check) and when your phone reboot, still press on home + vol UP + power button and enter in recovery. After that, wipe everything + FORMAT DATA and will be OK!
Okay, I'm pretty sure it's working now. It booted into TWRP, I made it install my custom ROM. Basically, it's working. To detail the steps in between...:
I downloaded stock firmware from a different site. No I'm not going to tell you the site, but it's pretty high in the google search results. Practically unavoidable.
I finally installed that after an ~8-9 hour download from rapidgator (Look, i know some of you out there are trying to make money by uploading content to these sites, but 8 hours is just ridiculous).
It failed at hidden.img.tar.
I installed the hidden.img.tar by first opening the firmware as an archive, then extracting hidden.img, then renaming it to hidden.img.tar as dinamo1975 described.
It eventually booted properly, then somehow it turned into a boot loop.
I went into download mode again and flashed TWRP from https://twrp.me/.
I made it boot into TWRP and installed a custom ROM.
Now the phone boots without problems and is back up and running.
Three things I've learned from this:
- ALWAYS have stock firmware ready. Stock firmware that matches your device. Google is your best friend here.
- Certain magisk modules can get your device stuck depending on your build. Be CAREFUL. If you're not sure if something is going to work, don't attempt to make it work.
- That last part goes for everything with electronics. If you're unsure if something is going to work, just stop right there, please.
EDIT: Is there any way to close this thread?
EDITEDIT: Nope this is bad. Stuck in a boot loop (boots up right to the OS up to where i have to provide my SIM pin, then restarts immediately) and it doesn't recognize my battery. Seen as 0% and TWRP doesn't even show a percentage. Could it be that I've gotten the wrong firmware yet again?

Sounds like you tried to put a Vibrant ROM on it, though, which is why it goofed. Can you get it into download mode by:
Power off the phone
Plug in the USB cable to the phone and computer
Hold down the volume up & volume down keys at the same time
Press and release the power button
Press the volume up button to get into download mode
or
Power off the phone
Remove the battery

Insert the battery while holding those keys

Yeah, give this one from Whitehawkx a shot if you want the original Froyo KD1 ROM. If you want the latest Gingerbread 2.3.6, use this one from RaverX3X.
Both are flashed via ODIN & both contain the proper boot loaders. Let me know if you need any help with that.
Thanks ,, with Froyo KD1 how can i add the "Modded 3e Recovery"

No worries, I hope you get it going again. If you're wanting the CWM recovery for Froyo I would suggest krylon360's [RECOVERY]CWM FINAL for the SGS4G - FROYO ONLY.
Another way would be to flash a kernel that has it built in. I believe the Bali kernel has it built in. Check out the [REF]{BIBLE} Galaxy S 4G (12/25/11) <10:00pm cst>. It has a lot of information and links that can help you out.
i tried to flash it with odin he says FAIL! several times
You have to get the phone into download mode first. You can do that a few ways and here are a couple:
Power off the phone
Plug in the USB cable to the phone and computer
Hold down the volume up & volume down keys at the same time
Press and release the power button
Press the volume up button to get into download mode
or
Power off the phone
Remove the battery
Plug in the USB cable to the phone and computer
Hold down the volume up & volume down keys at the same time
Insert the battery while holding those keys
Press the volume up button to get into download mode
Once it's in download mode & ODIN sees it, you should be able to flash.
Note the download is a .rar file, which is an archive. You'll need to un-rar it (I think 7Zip does this and there are other un-rar utilites) then put the un-archived file in the PDA section of ODIN and it should work.

Thanks for the log. Interesting. What version of ODIN are you using? I recommend 1.85 as I think it's the latest available. Also, re-download the file to make sure it's a good file.
Keep Odin open on the computer, keep the usb cable plugged into the computer
Pull out your battery and usb cable from the phone
Put the battery back in
Hold vol + and -, keep holding them.
Plug the usb cable into the phone.
Try flashing with Odin again once it detects your phone.
i downloaded odin 1.85 and i redownloaded the file but the same result .
when i try the stock (samsung vibrant) odin work , but he diden't boot in recovery mode , so it's blocked in the first screen ' samsung vibrant"

I think FB is trying to verify the model of the phone you have. Beneath the battery is a white sticker that should show you the model number and other information. Does the model number show SGH-T959V?
sorry i haven't understood you , yes the model is SGH-T959V ,
i think the problem is the file isn't the right one for my phone .
I have a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1. It came to me as a pt 5113. When I rooted it and updated the software to 4.3 using cmworld nightly it changed to p5110.
I wanted to downgrade because I wasn't able to use a lot of things and felt limited. However, my tablet won't turn off until it runs out of battery and I'm trying to just return it to the way it was before I tried to downgrade but it's not letting me. So I think it might be bricked. I don't know if it's a soft brick or a hard brick... I'm just so lost. Can anyone help me find how to straighten everything out if it can or provide me with step by step instructions.
Is there a way where I can just start fresh and just turn my tablet back to the way it was when I first bought it?

You can force the tablet to power off by holding in the power button about 10 seconds. It will then cold boot after a few seconds if you do nothing.
As soon as it powers off, try going into recovery by pressing the power and volume down keys until the Samsung 10.1 logo appears. If that fails, force power off again and try going into download mode, pressing power and volume up keys. If you can get into the download mode, connect to your PC and try installing TWRP with Odin.
Just a reminder, volume down is next to the power switch. Also remember to unplug the power or you can't get into either download or recovery modes!
Installing TWRP Recovery:
I use TWRP, some good instructions are here You already have the drivers and Odin installed, so skip that part, and go to where he installs TWRP Recovery with Odin.
- Go to ODIN window and click PDA. Browse your PC for the TWRP Recovery .tar file and then load it into ODIN.
- Don’t change any default settings of ODIN. Press the START button when you’re ready for the installation process.
- After the install is complete you will notice that ODIN says PASS and the tablet restarts.
- Wait for the tablet to reboot and then it will load the Android OS. This means that the installation was successful and you can disconnect the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 from your PC.

See if that gets you going. Then you can try flashing a stock ROM.
Or try flashing this ROM It is a rooted version of stock 4.2.2 with busybox.
Be sure and wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik Cache as he instructs. This should get you back to a stock, rooted ROM.

Sorry to necro bump, but did anyone find a fix to this? In the same situation. Thanks.
im in the same boat
Has anybody resurrected an Tab 2 when the Recovery Mode wont boot?
I bought a Tab 2 on Ebay, seemed he try´d to root it, and failed or the wrong Firmware.
Now i have it here, disassembled so i can cut of battery power and still, after an hard reset with no battery, i cant get with power + Volume up (or down) into download or recovery mode.
Is there any chance left or has the seller killed the nand flash partitions?

Several months ago I decided to root my phone, I installed cyanogenmod 11 I believe on my phone.
However today I decided I wanted the phone back to stock, so I backed up the files I wanted to keep (music and photos) and went to work.
I downloaded odin 3.07 connected my phone, set the device to download mode (volume down+power+home) and installed a stock ROM I found on sammobile.com
the ROM I used was "I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU".
The only ticked fields in odin were auto reboot and f.reset time.
I loaded the ROM into odin as a PDA.
The rom installed successfully (as far as i know) the phone when turning on no longer displays the cyanogenmod logo but now shows the samsung logo, however the phone never boots it's just stuck on the samsung logo.
Thankfully the phone can still be put into download mode, I thought maybe I installed the wrong ROM? So I went back to sammobile.com and installed "I9300XXUGNH4_I9300VFGGNH2_VOD" yet I still get the same result being stuck on the samsung logo.
I'm not bothered about having the phone stock anymore (I'll install a custom ROM if it comes to it) I just want my phone back!
I've had the phone for several years now, I live in the UK and have owned the phone from new, I bought it from a vodafone shop.
Any help here would be highly appreciated, thanks for reading and sorry mods if this is in the wrong section.
So after finding this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426426
"Make sure phone is off. Boot into download mode. To do so, hold down the Volume Down, Home and then the Power buttons together until a Warning!! message is displayed on the screen. Here, press Volume Up to enter download mode. A green Android and the text Downloading will be displayed on the screen.
Now, open Odin by clicking on the Odin3 v3.07.exe file in the Odin307 folder which you obtained after extracting Odin307.zip
In Odin, click on the PDA button, then select the VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5 file that you downloaded.
Important Untick every option under the “Option” section (on the top left of Odin), except F. Reset Time. Check the screenshot below for reference.
Then, connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable and wait for Windows to finish installing drivers. Odin will say Added!! in the message box on the bottom left if the phone is detected successfully. If not, make sure the drivers are installed and also try using a different USB port – preferably a USB port on the back if using a desktop computer.
Click on Start to start flashing the VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5 file on the phone.
Wait till flashing is complete and you get a PASS message in Odin. When that happens, disconnect the phone from the computer, but DON’T turn it off and let it stay in download mode. Also close Odin.
Reconnect your phone to the computer (while it is in download mode). Open Odin again.
This time, click the PDA button and select the BOOTLOADER_I535VRALF2_618049_REV09_user_low_ship.t ar.md5 file that you download
Also, again untick every option except F. Reset Time in Odin. Then, click on the Start button to start flashing the BOOTLOADER_I535VRALF2_618049_REV09_user_low_ship.t ar.md5 file on the phone.
When flashing is complete and you get a PASS message, disconnect the phone and close Odin. But keep the phone in download mode, don’t turn it off.
Open Odin again and also reconnect the phone to the computer.
Click the PDA file and select the stock.vzw_root66.tar file that you Downloaded
[Important] Select the following three options in Odin on the top left: Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time, Nand Erase All. Check the screenshot below for reference.
Click Start to start the flashing process. Once the flashing is complete and you get a PASS message, the phone will automatically reboot. Disconnect the phone from the computer.
The phone will still not boot up completely. Now, remove the battery on the phone, then re-insert it. Don’t turn it on.
Now, boot into recovery. To do so, press and hold the Volume Up + Home + Power buttons together till the screen turns on, then let the buttons go. The phone will boot into recovery in a few seconds. You will see a few error messages in recovery, which is normal.
In recovery, use the volume buttons to scroll up/down and the home button to select options.
Select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm. Wait a while till the data wipe is complete (this will NOT delete your personal files on the SD cards).
Select wipe cache, confirm, then wait for cache wipe to be completed.
Then, select reboot system now to reboot the phone.
The phone will now boot up properly into Android and is fixed, and you will be able to use it now."
I've looked into samsung galaxy s3 section and tried flashing VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5 making sure only to tick f.reset time. However now odin appears to be stuck on NAND write start. Below is the output from odin:

My S6 suddely stopped working normally and gets stuck at the samsung logo. It was running with stock firmware, it was rooted and running very stable. (KNOX counter is tripped by doing that). Never had a sudden restart. I was running tomtom Go on it and during driving it happened. At home, I tried everything listed in the forums but without success.
I can run the recovery function from kies or smart switch via download mode, but after that, it does not get past samsung logo, and there is no way to enter recovery mode, no matter what key's I press during reboot.
Also, it seems it is not charging. Since I cannot switch off the phone (keys are not working), I can wait until it runs out of juice. When I connect a cable, or put in on a wireless charger, the samsung logo appears again and does not disappear. Unless I let it die, or unless I enter download mode.
When I disconnect my S6 from the cable, it stops very soon, so it seems the battery does not charge. Is there any suggestion to either enter recovery mode or to proof the battery is dead.

bro , if you can't to enter to recovery you must reflash your firmware to get stock recovery or flash twrp recovery only by odin , the battery may be is too low you can try to charge device sometime when it is stuck on samsung logo

thx, I tried to get stock recovery and twrp recovery by Odin, both does not help. Also charging does not work: when I leave it on the charger for a full night (with Samsung screen on), it will switch off within 5 minutes. So it does charge only a bit.
i had a something like this happen, try this with the cable connected and charging hold volume down and power and menu button all at the same time until the logo hopefully goes of then let go of the buttons ( not the phone ) wait about 20 seconds to make sure the phone does not come back on and then press the volume up, power and menu buttons and keep holding till you see recover start
let me know if that helps
you can try to charge device when it in download mode

That's not download mode.
You're releasing the buttons too early. Hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN with USB cable inserted and attached to the PC.
DO NOT release until you see the download mode screen then release all buttons except vol up.
Also some things to note:
Details are very sketchy, what is meant by cannot flash TWRP?
Why are you flashing the older TWRP version?
Second, did you enable OEM UNLOCK and disable RMM lock?
Lastly, flashing a kernel cannot in anyway corrupt the bootloader.
If the bootloader was corrupted the device wouldn't even turn on.

Yes i Hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN with USB cable inserted and attached to the PC but its same like on movie, over and over even if I don't release the buttons, i hold buttons for 3min and over and over again the same as in the movie.
ODIN sad some error but rly dont remember what was that. I flashed twrp_3.2.3-1_sm-j415f_30319 from [RECOVERY][ROOT]TWRP 3.3.1-1 Galaxy J4+/J415F/FN/G/DS
Yes i enabled oem in Developer options which ended factory reset.
I also remember that I enabled Nand Erase in ODIN, maybe it will help something.

Why did you enable Nand erase? That was probably a bad move.
Can you show a screenshot of the error in odin?
Again you haven't explained what the issue was flashing twrp?

Ok so I noticed one interesting thing. namely, when I leave the phone not connected to the computer / charger and for about 20-30 min min I do not try to do anything, e.g. start the download mode after pressing vol + and vol- download mode starts, a window pops up asking whether to start the download mode and when I press vol + how to connect the download cable the mode turns on for a moment about 1s and restarts and could not turn it on again unless I wait the next 20 min

You have an issue with your cable. Use a different cable and ensure it is short.
Also when entering download mode release all buttons except VOL UP when you see the blue screen.
Pretty much the issue here is dodgy cables and pilot error.
