Sprint Users That are NOT ROOTED - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

The Software update is now rolling out for
ZV6 firmware, This WILL BLOCK DIRTY SANTA
Please don't attempt dirty Santa until there is confirmation
that the ZV6 was not fully patched, or if dirty santa can be changed to still root.
Edit:
If anyone gets a notice that the ZV6 update is ready to download and you ARE rooted,
please dont try and install it, but upload it and pm me with the files. Ill be able to get them to the right places and the device prepared
for the next update.
Thank you

Willing to help out the cause, could you send me guide on how to dump those files?

Yes I would love to have a system dump..... I lost all my radios in need of radios.

If anyone can get me a full dump of ZV6 unmodified that would be awsome as i need to get my base updated!
This would need to be a full system dump and the boot.img to match please.
Thank you!

Once I get the notification I will try to pull it! Check hangouts we will get a base built.

DirtySanta wont be able to be changed to fix a block. it relies on the dirtyCow exploit and if that gets blocked theres no fixing. When someone WHO IS ROOTED. gets the update notification please pm me that way i can go through the file and install it to my device.(same way i did the zv5 base) and ill get a ZV6 base going.
Word of notice too all. IF you try to install the update while rooted you will get a TWRP loop. The Fix for that is all over so please dont bug me for a fix.....

I have stock backups using flashfire..
But the baseband issue come from flashing a gsm rom or a aosp rom. Im not sure witch efs partition is radio only but i have them backed up.. If you look for my guide on how to manually program this will get those items to come back without flashing radios.
Flash my stock rom or the one from dirty santa..
Then follow the instructions to get to manual program. Youll need to go to sprint.com and get ur msl or ask care and say you need it to do a full reset using ##786# / you may also need to flash a asop rom again and toggle your network mode back to rusim or ull have to use cdma workshop to change.
As well as for your msid so you can program it.
The nam config got changed from rium to nv only and breaks ur efs connection. The prl probably is 162 also on your phone so you'll need to grab the latea 56021 prl also to flash.
Theres a ton of good info on that post and the adjoining one to it for fixing this issue.
Id need assistance in what parts of my efs backup i can use as parts contain my imei and msid etc and will booloader brick your device trying to restore my esn as well as error code my device for being cloned.

Some has to have the zv6 ota in their fota directory by now.. Humm.. I personally havent seen it but sheesh..

mhmm :/ we all could be enjoying the new version if someone sends me the file soon. Its located in the Cache partition. Exact file is /cache/update.zip

@me2151 Think this is the right file:
LINK REMOVED - THIS WAS THE ZV5 UPDATE, SORRY.

It is my file but I have no idea what version it is. I am on ZV3 somehow. I used dirtysanta and the stock rom you provided (I think?).

OK. When did you receive the notification for updating?
EDIT: Based on a quick look through the script i believe this is the zv5 update. ill do a more thorough check tomorrow but target id's are matching zv5.
EDIT#2: Also i do appreciate you uploading the file. If it does turn out to be ZV5 i will ask that you remove your link that way we do not get confused, as for right now though it can stay. Ill let you know tomorrow.

Sounds good. I did confirm this was the ZV5 update that came out in December 2016. My bad. The link still works in your quoted reply above, even though I removed the file. (Google has it cached?)

I've got the ZV6 file now, I think.

Question about installing OTA

I was supposed to be part of the soak but for some reason my phone is invisible to the Moto update servers and they cannot push the update to me. I have the update file someone gave me a link to download. I have two questions about how to install it.
1. Since I am rooted can I just put it where Moto would have downloaded it to and then my phone will update it like it got the OTA?
or
2. If I install it off the SD card will it just do recovery first and then display injured android man, and then have to reselect the zip package again to finish instlling the update?
I would prefer method 1 if possible. If one of the devs or a knowledgeable person could respond I would appreciate it. I'll give Moto about six more hours to get this straightened out, otherwise I am tired of waiting to get my Atrix 2 onto ICS.
Hi. I don't suppose the end result would be different, whatever method you choose.

Where does moto put the zip file so I can try putting it where the OTA would have downloaded to? Then when I go to check for update it should say an update is ready for installing. Do they put it in the cache directory? Someone who knows please let me know. Thanks.

AFAICT this seems true, you I could run a leak#2/soak based ROM as a second system (first system too?) with boot menu manager by following the guides:

Yes, it is /cache... but I think you also need the .crc file of the same name along with the actual .zip - not positive though. And, it can take a little while for it to recognize it - but I have done it that way, by putting it in the cache folder - also, it will disappear if you reboot.
But, you do know what you are doing, right? There is no fxz yet...
---------- Post added at 08:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:12 AM ----------
Edit.. since it's the same files as leak#2.. for the .crc file, you could just make your own if you don't have it:
-Just create a new blank file with notepad++
-Add this as the first and only line (no blank lines after)
Code:
3114145323
-Then, save it as Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.crc

Yes, I know what I am doing. I used to develop roms for LG P999 but have not played around with my Atrix much. LG does their OTA updates very differently and downloads them in pieces all over the place so no way to use the method I am suggesting for the Atrix. I don't care about being able to fxz back as I just want the phone on official ICS; but I do appreciate your caveat. Thanks for the reply.
If anyone has the .crc file please upload somewhere so I can grab it. Thanks.

Thanks. I will give them a few hours to get to work and see if my phone is visible to the update servers now that I have done an FDR as they requested. If so, I will just let the OTA do its thing. If not I will manually update my phone.
Also I do not think you can be rooted to update the check will prevent you from updating, also you have to be as close as stock as you can..... Meaning all bloat must be unfroze.....
One more note there is a Q&A section now so try to post questions there.....

Could the fact that you're not in the US, are now unlocked and on another network have something with failure to get the OTA!?
You can be rooted. The update asserts only check for the original system files to make sure they have not been modified or deleted. It does not check for extra files like superuser.apk or busybox. Rooting is not a problem. I set superuser to OTA protect and it worked. After the update my ICS was still rooted without me having to root it.
For the person that wants the leak the OTA is leak # 2. It is exactly the same. Just find thread with download link for leak # 2 and you are good to go.
Would installing beats audio drivers using the app be considered tampering with system files? And would it prevent me from receiving a ota?

Sorrry but what mean FDR? because I'm in that situation: Im not in US and I have the phone unlocked, and I'm using it with other operator... Is just ended the soak test?... because the phone say me "Your phone is updated, Is not required a update in this moment" (Translated from Spanish) when I look in Settings -> About the phone -> Update, and I'm have the system version 55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.

You have to be someone that was invited and filled out a survey about six weeks ago. If you are you need to go to the Motorola Private forum. Go see how others are requesting it (not allowed to really talk about it). FDR means Factory Data Reset and it is an option in Privacy in Settings. It erases all your user settings, app data and you are back to square one like when the phone came out of the box. For many people it was required to get what they wanted.
If you were not invited don't worry. Usually the official rollout of the OTA will come within a week of a soak test if no problems are found. It is the same as leak # 2 so just look on this forum and you can install that manually. The release is solid so I see no reason the OTA won't be going live to all AT&T Atrix 2 devices very soon.

Are you saying the rootedsystem.img can be applied to ZV9? The "[ROOT] LG G FLEX 2 ..." thread hasn't been updated to include this ver so I'm skeptical. Would love to hear from those who've had some success since I'm still evaluating whether I want to keep this thing or not. The sprint bloatware installed upon activation is almost too much to bare.

There is a ZV9 rootedsystem.img and its there if you look for it.
I was talking about getting back to stock (I made a thread where there's all the sys images from ZV6 to ZV9 pure stock).
And yes the image is there. I'm already on ZV9 rooted. Apply the fixes from itson and lab network and bloatware wont bother you at all.

Unlocked Sprint LS996 wont activate on Sprint

I inadvertently purchased a international unlocked LS996 from a ebay seller not realizing it until I tried to activate it on Sprint today. So hoping dd'ing ZV6 stock image would remove whatever the seller did for some reason still will not activate on sprint. Profile/PRL both fail. I have updated to ZV7 as well with no luck. I get 3g data. no lte or calls. I had called sprint and they said they had issues provisioning phones today and had a backlog. Not sure if i believe them or if its something with the phone
What else needs to be done to get this back working on sprint?
Anyone?
Does flashing the stock system bring the phone back to stock, or is it that what the seller did unable to activate on sprint now?

what you need is the original node.db files from the carrier folder
but you need your phone rooted for doing this.
then you can flash back to stock with the corresponding system image and the OTA update to ZV9.
I will upload this files for you in case you cant find them. :good:

Please do update OP. I'm in a similar boat- unlocked phone that I did manage to activate on sprint but I cannot get several things to work such as: updating PRL, updating profile, visual VM to pick up messages. All of these throw up Authentication Failed messages. Otherwise the phone does generally work well on sprint's networks. There's another thread in here somewhere that outlines the process I (and others) had to go through to get activation to work though it does not seem flawless given these other persistent issues.

Still not Bro.
Waiting @tungkick to have a way to always go back, but i'm pretty sure if you flash only recovery TOT for example, you don't have any risk of brick nothing

There is a twrp recovery.img, but it's not yet flashable.
What is @tungkick website where I can find all of this stuff? Looking forward to flashing everything in the near future.

I have a bricked v20 and I have tried flashing this .tot and the other posted in this forum and I keep getting error messages at 9% on all attempts on two windows machines. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I am using LGUP version 1_14_3. Is this the latest build or the build compatible with the V20? Drivers were latest I could find also using the LG common.dll which I needed for LGUP to recognize the V20. This is my only way out of brick I think. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

mate, as of today, i have read that there is no dll file for the v20. i.e there is no updated dll file to recognise the v20 in lgup.
u might want to wait a bit longer before u can unbrick your phone.

Not good news.. it is just the dll? I mean i knew it had to be a missing piece because it was ready to flash. Every file failed at the same time. If anyone hears anything please post here or PM me just for a heads up. Im sure a few other desperate souls out there are anxiously waiting. Any reason the flash tools are incomplete? It doesnt seem like a big deal. Can someone here in the forum make one? Just couious.. i would gladly donate. Thanks for the info.

I don't think the flash tool is meant to be public, so they are probably leaked files.
I have a soft bricked LG V20 and have tried the LGUP DLL for every LG phone model I could find. The most progress I got was with the LG G5 dll and it only went to 10%.

not really sure as i am new to LG.
been reading up on xda relating to flashing and rooting (i came from samdung phones) this baby. i think being patient here is what you can do at the moment.also, not only the dll file is missing, i read twrp is not saving backup properly due to the new security protocols in place android 7.0.
take heart mate,i know it sucks to have a bricked phone.
all im getting is "Unknown Model"
Managed to soft brick my H918 as well, so if anyone working on this needs a tester, I'd love to get my phone back.

I appreciate it, wish I'd seen that the day before. I tried to go back to stock recovery to see if that would fix my boot loop issue, so, without access to TWRP, I'm hosed until we have a method to reflash recovery from Fastboot or Update modem connection..
I am screwed as well, I messed my phone up too, and when I turn my phone on it automatically goes the to the upgrade mode screen, I want to through away this damn phone, hehehe.

According to this post you just need the flash tool and kdz but haven't tried it yet.
I just attempted it and ended up erroring at 9% with error 0x2000 CEFS:Initalize() :/ Attempting a redownload maybe I have some bad files.
*edit*
Was able to use uppercut by codefire(thread) to flash this kdz. posted in the other thread for this kdz also.

So what was your status before attempting? Did you do the unlock/root?
Sorry i typed that twice because i trashed my first post...
Thought i included it but apparently missed it the 2nd time
Im stock unrooted. So this was tested on a stock unrooted vs995. So ill be rooting in the near future. If someone doesnt test before me ill do it, but the uppercut allowed lgup to flash the vs995.

Thanks for testing that. If I knew it was 100 percent safe and wouldn't have issues, I would probably try the kdz with Uppercut to restore mine back to stock - currently unlocked, rooted, on 996 deodex.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I'm probably going to stock restore too, currently on the unlocked deodex 996.
When you did the restore, did you wipe data before you started? I think I'm going to wipe and format storage since I'm on the vs996 Rom. Unless there's a way to wipe data in the stock recoverym

I tried to use Uppercut but it kept giving me an error that no devices were found. I have adb drivers installed and the LG mobile driver installed, nothing showed as error in device manager. Did you have any issues like that?
Edit: Weird, tried it again and it seems to work.
Thanks a million everyone, I finally fixed my Lg v20 vs995! I kept having failure trying it with Uppercut, but I finally saw that I needed to install 3 files to get it to work correctly, 1st you need the kdz file: VS99512A_06_1114_ARB00.kdz, next you need to install 2 driver files, LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3_3.msi and LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.1.1.exe, and of course have UPPERCUT.exe. Finally after installing all of the correct drivers, and loading UPPERCUT, using the VS99512A_06_1114_ARB00.kdz, I finally got it to work and you have to choose "UPGRADE" in UPPERCUT, but I completely restored my phone to factory!!! What a frickn blessling, I am so happy, because I was trying for days to fix this..... and I actually threw this phone in the trash, hehehehehe, but something made be take it out of the trash an hour later, THANK GOD!
