There is no official announcement or change-log available for this update by the Google. But my Android expert team has downloaded this update to explore the new features of this update.

Just saw something interesting. I saw the post of the update to google maps on androidcentral. So I went to market and noticed that it did not update automatically. I had to click on update before it went and grab the update. This was also the case for the gmail app.
Should the apps that come with the android not also be part of the automatic updates ?
After updating the app with market I do get the option to flag for updates.

the gapps are ONLY the market and maybe some other things; a lot of the other gapps are available on market.. they're not included with in the gapps package unless you download a version with it; only thing that auto updates is the market
An incremental update to the massively refreshed Google Play Store has been released (4.0.26)
There are no major changes in this release, just minor bug fixes erlating to mostly translation and something called "light purchase" billing

Just curious to know if there is a reason Google Play Services can't be used to roll out fixes to this or any other exploit/bug. It's great that Google's fixed it in the OS but given that you don't tend to get major OS upgrades unless you buy a new phone it means it'll be years until most users are safe. If the OS is a collection of files then why can't any file be fixed and rolled out via Google Play Services or the play store more or less immediately for all versions of Android?
All my phones received one or more Google Play System update today.
The 3 updates are 713 KB, 9.5 MB and 26 MB. Your device may receive one or more of these.
Given that the update has been rolled out to all devices, unlike the usual staggered rollout, it appears that there are some important security related fixes.
It is advisable everyone checks and update their devices with the latest security patch.
