This is driving me crazy. Every time i pick up my phone the ringer volume it's off.
I don't think I'm doing it accidentally.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Could it be an external app that's doing it, I had that problem on one of my old phones and it was an app called audio visualizer that kept doing it. Try checking your device administrators or look for apps that have access to do not disturb settings.
You're probably doing it in your pocket. No other rational explanation.

I swear, I have the volume as high as can be, but because the Captivate's speaker is covered most of the time since it lays on top of its speaker, you can only hear a muffle sound most of the time.
The ringer may be maxes but make sure that the notification sound is also maxes, under sound and display go to ringer volume and drag the seccond slider to max. Sometimes it gets bumped down to a unreasonably low volume for whatever reason

Also make sure you turn system volume all the way up

Choose a current tone. It's just quiet. I downloaded a new one and can always hear it now

That is another thing, why does the Notification Volume randomly minimizes itself. What is causing this?
I'd like to know why the notification volume has a mind of its own as well. Seems like I have to turn it up everyday... Not sure if this is an android thing or a samsung thing... Anyone have any ideas?

Not sure if its related, but I had the same problem. My volume was too low and I had everything turned up. One day I was using Google Maps and tried to get directions. The phone asked me to install something for the turn by turn voice directions and immediately everything was louder.
This may be because I messed my phone up or something, but I notice this happening when I turn my volume down... like the notification volume doesn't go back up. so let's say you put your phone on vibrate, it turns down the notification volume too, but when you turn up the main volume the notification gets "stuck" at like 1.... I installed audiomanager and I no longer seem to have this problem.
Just try turning your volume up and down and check your notification volume.
For some reason, my keyboard and lock sounds have gotten so quiet that its pointless to even have it on. When I first enabled them, they were audible, now they're whisper quiet.
All of my volume settings (notification, ringer, alarm) are as high as they go. I can't find volume adjustments for the key clicks.
Anyone know what could be going on?
Thanks!
Figured it out. It's the system volume. Used Quick Settings to adjust it.

Hi, Does any one know how i can make my phone (G2x) just vibrate. I hate having when phone rings. I prefer vibration ONLY on all txt, voice message, incoming phone, notification and what not. The only time i want voice is when i am watching a movie or listening to music. I have looked through settings and tried all the settings....
thanks.

I beg to differ.
Look under Settings > Sound. Make sure vibrate is set to either Always or Only in Silent Mode. Then select Volume and turn ringtone volume all the way down. Leave media and alarm volumes turned up. Voila!
Not sure if this is ROM related or not (running CleanROM 5.0) but weird problem I'm having and I can't figure it out and it just started happening out of nowhere. I can't put my phone's ringtone, notification, and system on silent and be able to adjust my media volume. When all the other volumes are off it like totally locks the media volume slider. I have alarm clock xtreme and I have the option in there checked off to ring even if phone is in silent mode but still nothing plays when the alarm goes off and I have the ringer on vibrate or silent. I never remember experiencing anything like that where silencing the ringer would silence media volume and lock the volume slider for it. When it locks it I can't increase the volume for media at all regardless what app I have open Spotify, Pandora, etc. Only thing I can do is put ringtone volume back on then reboot and then I can adjust media volume. Anyone have any ideas here it's driving me nuts? Thanks!
Ahh no idea anyone?! I still haven't figured it out and it's driving me nuts!!!
Im having the same issue with clean rom

Hey all,
So I've been running Lollipop for a few days now and till now I haven't find the silent mode. So even without vibration for calls.
Right now I have two choices:
1. Completly silent. But this will also silence my alarm which I don't want.
2. Let it vibrate. Which I don't want for phone calls.
I want my phone to be silenced but the alarm excluded.
Normally users could hit the volume down key one more time and put their smartphone into silent mode where it won’t even vibrate.
I've been searching for days for this simple option. Can someone help me out?
Thanks in advance.

Priority Mode.
Under "Interruptions" turn off everything and the only thing that will make a sound when the phone is in Priority Mode is the Alarm.

And the low battery sound and the charging sound and a few other system sounds. Priority mode is a poor substitution for a real silent mode.
I can't believe Google took silent mode out.
What the F were they thinking?

Set volume to 1 (Just before vibrate mode). Sit and reboot phone. You will now be in silent mode.
It's messed up for sure. I had it set to "priority" with everything unchecked so just my alarm would come through but some dumb Facebook notification woke me up in the middle of the night. Wasn't amused.
The only way to silent the phone except for alarms is to put it in airplane mode? Ridiculous.
Looking forward to some custom ROMs to fix up this mess.
This is my main reason for not updating to 5.0 so far... All I want is to be able to set the phone to totally silent, but still have the LED light for notifications without having to download something like LightFlow to do it. I like having nothing make noise/vibrate, but still have the LED blink when something comes in.

I developed an app: Call Filter Alarm. Its sleep mode can silence all notifications (also whatsapp and viber), even on Lollipop.
Hope it helps

Hi guys!
I too have the same problem and no app helped me... so I searched far and wide and I finally found a simple trick With my knowledge I have created an app:
Silent Mode Lollipop (search for it.merkcoolapp.silentmodelollipopfree in the Google Play Store to find it)
It only does one thing: switch from normal mode to silent mode, on any version of Android (of course, including Lollipop).
Remember, it's the 1.0 version
I hope it helps!

I made a small workaround that is very handy!
I used Nova Activities widget to create a shortcut to the Sounds and Notificaitions --> Interruptions activity.
Whenever I want to sleep, I simply tap the widget on my homescreen, turn off Calls as priority notifications and go to sleep with peace of mind
As soon as I wake up, I simply enable Calls as priority interruptions again by using the Nova widget
I know this is a workaround but this is the best way I found so far to solve this irritating problem on Android Lollipop.
I would also love to hear about any workarounds that anyone else on XDA has hacked together! Probably whip out a dialog UI using Tasker?
Hit thanks if my post helped you
There is an app called True Silent Mode which supposedly adds back silence like we are all used to. Alternatively you can try a different ROM. CM12 has the usual "silent but with alarms on" mode.
