So, I've noticed that phone can be a bit laggy. I first noticed it before the Nougat update, but after the update it's even worse. The phone stutters and lags a lot, and it's really annoying. And the battery life is mediocre to be honest. I'm coming from a Z3, which was basically a perfect phone, so this is honestly quite disappointing. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Have you tried doing a factory reset?
Do a factory reset. Better yet use flaahtool to better wipe all partitions to clear any remnants of previous installation.
I can attest to the fact that over several of my previous sony devices that post OTA installations deemed my phone's sluggish.
This doesn't seem to be the case for everybody, however for me at least a clean fresh install via flashtool did the trick for me.
However... I feel that the phone is slightly sluggish on nougat compared to MM specifically when interacting with the device on wake up.
It's not as lightning quick to keep up with my interactions as well as MM was.
Placebo perhaps, but my XZ certainly seems to be a tad slower then MM was from my experience.
I'll try a factory reset and see if it helps. I didn't want to do one, but I guess I don't have much of a choice. Thanks.
Try a repair by xperia companion. Best reset for Xperia
I have that lags too..
I tried to factory reset and it didn't help, I didn't try to do xperia repair because earlier i changed my rom to romaur v4.1 and i afraid of brick my XZ..
does anyone found a way to make this phone faster?
And what about the battery life? The battery life of this phone is shockingly bad. I didn't expect it to be as good as my Z3, but this is just terrible.

The least batt life I get is 4 to 5hrs SoT but the highest SoT I got is more than 11hrs (text, a little use of mobile data, movie/video viewing, reading Wattpad, camera, bit of game/s). It all depends on the usage.

Sounds like a misbehaving app. You should easily be able to get 6-8+ hours screen on just by turning the brightness down some, if there's no app hogging all the power.
It probably is. Because GSAM shows that most of my battery is being drained by apps (about 70%), particularly Android OS and Kernel and the in built battery monitor puts 'phone idle', even above the display. I just can't figure out what it is.
Maybe you had bad luck and got a bad battery in your phone. It can happen, especially since you say Idle is at the top. you should get a longer time than 3 hours if Idle is at the top
My USA and docomo Japan versions of XZ both get incredible battery life with zero lag.

Yeah, but that doesn't necessarily explain why the app usage is so damn high, even at 2hrs plus of screen on time, it still accounts for about 70%.

I can vouch for the DoCoMo XZ version. That phone uses 1.5gb of RAM due to two default launchers, DoCoMo launcher being the hog even after disabling most DoCoMo services.
Check your SD card as it could also drain your phone on idle. That matter has been discussed.
I'm currently using the phone without the SD Card, uninstalled FB messenger and with Bluetooth off (normally connected to my smartband), while there has been a modest improvement, it's still quite high, especially compared to my Z3. The orange themed GSam screenshot is from my XZ, while the green themed one is from my Z3. App usage is significantly lower on the Z3, with the screen using most of the power, which is supposed to be the norm.

Trust me, it is.
My phone is also sometimes laggy...
I installed Arrow Launcher (from Microsoft) and now its butter smooth (60fps).
Maybe, there are some problems with Xperia home launcher.
Nova launcher is also better, but sometimes also little stutter.
Apps are running ok. Sometimes little stutter...
I've just bought my phone two days ago, but it seems to have a really awful problem, my battery is draining like hell, I don't get more than 7 hours SOT and sometimes my SOTs are aweful.
Take a look at the screenshots.
Is it normal? Tell me if it isn't so that I can take it for a replacement.
One of the screenshots are from 100 percent to 14 and the other one is from 100 percent to 79
Also my phone is always warm and I think that it's too much warm sometimes.

If your phone is quite new , then I'd suggest that you should most probably put your phone through many charge discharge cycles . if the problem still persists then I'd really advice you to take a replacement

7 hours SOT is good. You have no reason to complain about that.
Also, you need to wait a week for everything to settle, and let the Samsung power monitor start putting unused apps to sleep.

@JohnSmit268 I have a Dual SIM S8+ as well, only use it with 1 SIM, but I get about the same battery life as you do, slightly better but I'm happy with it. I've put some apps to sleep permanently so they don't run in the background and I use it at about 30% brightness.

I noticed your computed power usage with 7h SOT was 1633 mAh, that's a lot higher than mine.
With 30% brightness, full res display, and a black theme, my computed power usage with around 7 and a half hours of SOT is only around 800 mAh.
Do you use AOD?

Difference between FHD and WQHD+ is negligible and makes almost no difference to battery usage.
If you think 7 hours SOT is not good, then you are honestly very much mistaken. It is very good.
But you simply cannot compare easily with someone else. There are so many factors that change. Signal strength, wifi strength, how often you use wifi and data, brightness, auto brightness, AOD, vibration, sound, bluetooth, NFC, apps installed, apps used, apps running in the background, location settings. They all make a difference and vary between every device.
Colour of wallpaper will make a big difference too. Wallpaper with lots of black will save power because of how AMOLED displays work, so that will also makes a difference between every device too.

Don't know if it's luck or something, or maybe it's a one time happening but this is my test result, with the draining speed I have, it can give me around 9 to 10 hours SOT. I had the 3G always on, my brightness was more than half. This SOT is outstanding, I wish my device maintain this. I turned off AOD, switched to a black theme and used full res display.
Just wondering why the screen usage is that high. 2400 mAh...
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Xiaomi Mi 5s, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Xiaomi Mi 5s is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

I love everything about this phone apart from the battery life which I was expecting more from. standby time is terrible on my previous phone I'd lose maximum 2% during the night but on this phone it isn't surprising to see 10% drain. The battery is large, the hardware isn't too demanding (1080p screen) so the only problem I see is the software but even after moving to lineage or rr my phone had only very small difference in battery life. the battery is my only only complaint.

I also had problems with standby drain. Yesterday I installed forcedoze and turned off the fingerprint reader. Now, I only have 2 percent battery drain during 9 hours which is very good.
Probably the best phone I've ever owned. My only real complaint is that the chin of the phone becomes uncomfortable after holding it one handed, right at the transition between the glass and the body. Other than that, I love it.
It is a balanced smartphone. With a good camera.
One less star because:
- Battery capacity
- Updates with delay. Currently Android 8.0
- The 800Mhz band is missing
- It does not have a wireless charge
So I've noticed that my brand new 8T battery life isn't very impressive. I found an article on gsm arena that said there is a bug that causes the device to stay at 120hz all the time when the device is using dark mode. Normally it should clock down the refresh rate when the device isn't being used.
Here is the quote from the article:
Now, let's talk about the refresh rate.
To save power, the display will normally dial back to 60Hz after you stop touching it. It does have its quirks though. If brightness is below 50%, or you have Dark mode ON, it will always keep a 120Hz refresh rate. Yet, some apps like Google Maps, YouTube or fullscreen video playback will always run at 60Hz.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has noticed this same issue with bad battery and if so are you using dark mode?
UPDATE: I've noticed that the home screen will get stuck at 120hz if you use one of the active wallpapers. I recommend using a static wallpaper to allow the screen to go to 60hz. I've also verified that the settings app in dark mode gets stuck at 120hz. For best battery, set your system dark mode to off. Use a static home screen wallpaper and manually set dark mode for each of the other apps you use daily.
Thanks.
I think they made an error on saying that dark mode keeps 120 all the time. I just used a refresh rate app on dark mode and was able to change from 60 to 120 and it does not stay on 120 in dark mode...so not sure what to tell you???

Thanks for checking. I just took their word for it. I think my problem is that I was assuming the battery would be way better than the Pixel 3 XL I upgraded from but it's just marginally better. I'm just hoping the battery optimization will start doing its thing the longer I use the phone.
It seems there is a mechanism that adjust the refresh rate by regarding a combination of background color and screen brightness.
I have an almost black homescreen, and no matter how high I set the screen brightness, it always stays at 120Hz.
But when using an app with a white background and set the display a little brighter, it switches to 60Hz after a few seconds.

I'm using dark mode from the beginning and tried switching between 120hz and 60hz as I'm not getting that much impressive battery backup. The max i had got was like 6hrs of sot without AOD and ambient display off. Just a normal user. Some casual games, instagram, 90% times on wifi. And yesterday i got like 4hrs of sot at 60hz without AOD but with ambient display notifications on. On the other hand I'm glad we have a 65w which charges the device pretty fast.
I will try the light theme mode and check the battery life and update here.
I think it's forced 120hz unlike Samsung's adaptive. I left the counter enabled from dev options and never see it throttle down unless that's a bug. The description in display settings does say it will switch on its own but I never see that happening. Only time it shows 60hz is when going full screen landscape during videos or certain games that don't support it that's probably what it means by switching dynamically. Could also explain why we get worse battery life than s20fe users who have similar specs but are getting 9hr sot with 120hz. I've checked a few of their screenshots in the sot thread.
Anyone know more about it and can confirm?
@DroidzforLife I am coming from Mi 9T Pro. I had 6-7 hours SOT with my usage (gaming + social media). That was a 60Hz phone. With OP8T, even with a bigger battery, I get around 4 hours of SOT for the same usage. Note that I am constantly in dark mode, and 99% of the apps that I use have dark mode enabled. And it's constantly at 120Hz for me, by enabling the toggle, like @Anon1136 said.
The battery definitely is worse here. The only positive about it is that it charges insanely fast. That's all. My SOT slightly improved to around 5hours by flashing the Radioactive kernel.

Since posting I've switched to system light mode with manually set dark mode in as many apps as possible and the battery seems to have improved but still is not impressive. With my Pixel 3 XL I could get easily 6.5hrs of SOT. I guess we will have to sit back and enjoy our 65w charging for now. I'm just hoping that the adaptive battery stuff will greatly improve the battery life.

Oh. Well that sucks
My variant didn't get the update yet now I'm not that excited about it lol. Btw does everyone have 5g enabled? It was draining my battery like crazy the first few days now I just leave it on lte. Wanted to share some sot without it but it's not letting me upload for some reason. I can reach 9hr or close to it if I'm mostly on wifi with 120hz all the time, dark mode in most apps except for the ones that mess with text color, 4g, auto brightness around 40-50% light~medium usage as in videos browse text call (anything that isn't gaming or camera). Idle drain is not so great compared to my other phones even with minimal apps installed guessing it will be improved later

For me it's still super good, using it often enough, start with 90, go to bed with 50-70% depending how much I used it (where with 50% it was a lot!)
I do have all the wiz disabled plus a load of google stuff.
I stumbled onto AccuBattery Pro and am glad it spells out discharge rate in percentages. Yaa... Camera is the most at 17%/H. Next is the Phone at 5.6%/H. Sitting near wi-fi most of the time, I suppose I cheat the phone's ugliness. And I just turn mobile data off with Better Internet Tiles. Now days I sit at home a lot and the cell towers are far away and crap. Damn. At work at the credit union, the cell tower was actually on the roof !

What? Did u voice type that? That makes no sense. What r u doing to get good battery life?
Idle drain here is about 0.6 %/h, satisfying enough for me. Nothing tinkered everything on stock. I just don't use AoD. WiFi and two SIM cards always active, no flight mode. Don't need Bluetooth hence off as well.
And of course no snake oil like Naptime.
Cheers
Toscha

Disabled everything I don't need. Use as little apps as needed. No gaming except Wordfeud ;}
Lots of Chrome use though, covers most of my needs.

For me it's still super good, using it often enough, start with 90, go to bed with 50-70% depending how much I used it (where with 50% it was a lot!)
I do have all the wiz disabled plus a load of google stuff.

Wiz?
The AI stuff that Google added. Switching most of that off saves quite a bit of juice.

Like what specifically?
Adaptive battery off
Smooth display off
Live translate off
Digital assistant off
Covid notifications off
Disable all unneeded apps (ymmv)
Etc
Or leave all that stuff turned on and use Naptime... It's quite useful unlike most battery apps.
Naptime - the real battery sav - Apps on Google Play
Makes your device sleep faster to save precious battery life when you need it
play.google.com

I always worry about Apps where the latest reviews are 3 years old
Agreed, but it works - even though the last release was 2 years ago...

May as well get a iPhone turning all the Google off lol
I just did a short test result of my P7P (running AncientOS) using Naptime+
Without it, i would have lost ~2% in the same time.
