The preflash validation error you got was because you tried to flash an older firmware on a newer one. You'll need the latest firmware to successfully flash the stock ROM.

Download the latest firmware for your phone model. At this point I don't think there is any with January security patch. Just download the latest one you can find. And while flashing just skip gpt.bin and bootloader.img files. This should work. If you try it, please tell me if it worked.

Trying to root, can't boot into recovery

This is my fourth failed attempt to do anything custom with an android phone (yes, 4 different phones). Why is it so hard?
I'm following some nice instructions from teamandroid.com, but I can't get into recovery. Either I get "no command", or if I flash and go into recovery right away while connected, I get "Error: failed to load kernel!"
I wasn't able to flash TWRP ("Image size exeeded partition limits") but clockwork-6.0.4.7-falcon seemed to work. Just can't boot into it. I don't know what else to try, I don't know why it doesn't work.
Can anyone help me? Just trying to root my Moto G 2015 for development purposes. thanks so much.

I assume your talking about this guide: http://www.teamandroid.com/2015/10/02/root-moto-g-2015-on-android-5-1-lollipop-with-supersu/
It is an OK guide, but you really have to read the details... did you unlock via the Motorola Bootloader Unlock page? Nothing will work properly until you do.
Yes that's the guide (xda didn't let me post the link). Yes I did unlock that way. I'm trying to follow all of the details and I don't think I've missed anything (hence my frustration).

Kind of digging up an old thread here, what is the problem you are having and what process are you using? TBH, this is pretty simple but you need the TWRP specific to your device and just flash Magisk.
Moto g4 plus root problem..,

Flash the factory image... There are threads for the software and how to do it.
How to flash the factory image.... Can you please tell me in detail...Which thread ??? How to do it..

There is literally two threads in general... One is for factory firmware images, and one is how to flash factory firmware images. I am not going to spoon-feed you the answer just because you won't look. Find the threads, read a bit, and try it, if you have issues post in the appropriate thread.

Shield tablet wont boot beyond fastboot menu :'(

I hope you guys can help me, i have been wandering around blogs forums to find a fix to this issue but to no avail. I got my replacement tablet about a few month ago. I decide to keep the old one and install custom rom on it. The old one is still usable now, but the replacement tablet is dead to me. One day i restart the repl tablet and it just stucked at the fastboot menu. When i choose to go into recovery mode. Nothing happened except a blink of message said that cold linux booting failed. So i try to unlock bootloader to flash it using adb command. Now it wont let me unlock boot loader giving me an error same as the guy here ( i cant paste an outside link here, google : Shield Tablet (LTE) won't boot beyond fastboot, fastboot OEM)
Ps : sorry for bad english im from Malaysia and also im tech newbie
flash the official firmware, you shouldn't need the the bootloader unlocked to flash a signed nvidia package.
this should replace your recovery and system and get you up and running again.
if not, perhaps your NAND is corrupted or damaged.

Nope, also cant detect device using adb devices command. Tried same command in the other shield tablet, work just fine. Its not driver problem.
Tried fastboot oem unlock, and somehow it ask me on the shield to unlock or not, choose unlock and this error occured
(bootloader) Showing Options on Display.
(bootloader) Use device keys for selection.
(bootloader) erasing userdata...
FAILED (remote: (Unknown error code))

Maybe that you can flash the stock image from NVIDIA (https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source)

Trying to flash that one, still it require me to unlock bootloader. I think my chipset was damaged or fried. Have escalate this issue to nvdia, and it seems they want to do a replacement

Moto G 2015 device locked, boot loop, no access into recovery

hello
i've bought used moto g 2015 from spain.
the problem is that the device is locked with status code 0.
i've been trying to unlock it, but with no luck.
everything gives the error failed(remote failure)
recently i've used windroid toolkit to unlock bootloader and install twrp like in some tutorials, the app says it's done, but after i enter a recovery the phone hangs and boots again to fastboot.
any help will be appreciated
EDIT:
invoking "mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin" command gives the error too so i am unable of installing stock firmware too
EDIT2:
i've successfully installed stock package but there is still a problem - boot loop.
you need to flash stock rom to remove boot loop.
here is the link

I have already flashed the rom but now i think it could be a bad package. My phone is from spain and i installed before:
XT1541_OSPREY_ORAES_6.0_MPI24.65-33_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml
now i'm downloading
XT1541_OSPREY_RETES_6.0_MPI24.65-33_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
is there any way to find out which package should i use for sure?
the last package i mentioned doesnt change anything. phone boots to bootloader not to system.
any news i have the same thing with my device everything was flashed but i get boot faillure ??
nothing... i'll get my money back i guess

XT1540 Bricked/ Locked Bootloader

Hello!
I have a problem with my moto g3, he gets stuck at fastboot screen at gives error "version downgraded for boot, failed to validate boot image" after an ota update.
I've tried with different factory ROMs and everyone of them says error "(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)"
What can I do? My phone won't work ever o there's a solution?, I've tried and I couldn't get it to flash anything.
I can't get it to claim warranty nor do I believe there's a specialized motorola service where I live.
Thanks in advance.

What did you do to it before this occurred? try to flash lollipop?
what model number, country, carrier; what was the last working rom you had on it.
Have you done this?

Thanks for answering friend.
Is an XT1540. US retail. Unlocked. It had 6.0 before the ota that i think ir was a security update because it was aprox. 300mb.
Yes, i tried that with several images (factory) it wont ley me flash anything, gives me the errors that i mentioned before when i tried to flash gpt, system an recovery, it only flash logo.bin, nhlos succesfully.
I've tried to flash the 6.0 image corresponding to my model(xt1540 RETUS 2GB).
It says in the fastboot "invalid PIV image" and un the cmd "invalid signed image" or something like that.
You think is solvable?
Thanks a lot.
what twrp have you flashed?
No one, bootloader's locked, therefore i couldn't flash either twrp nor custom roms.
I suppose it had factory recovery, but it i choose to go to the recovery, il'll loop and go to the fastboot screen. I can only acces to the fastboot and fastboot logs.
Hang on a few minutes I'm working on a new guide...
If you do, i guess ill have to buy some marble to stand a statue un you honor man, thanks.
plastic's fine.
Start at the beginning and alert me if there's any confusion so I can fix it. Thanks.

Friend, it's pretty clear. Le probleme est that i dont hace and unlocked bootloader, but un order to unlock it i hace to check the box un developer options and i cannot do that cuz im stuck un bootloader mode, is a vicious circle, do you get me?
Can you boot to stock recovery - same as with TWRP but you will get a luing down android - press vol-up and after a few secs you will be in stock recovery. Do a factory reset. Maybe then you can boot. If not I am out of ideas.
It wont ley me boot to recovery, i ve done several factory reset vía fastboot mode.
Thanks forma taking the time trying to help me, i appreciate that.
you're welcome!

okay, thinking more on this - since you can do fastboot factory reset, can you do a fastboot flash recovery? - show me a pic of the commands and results when you try it. Grab squid's latest and see what happens. Or will it just block it because you're locked.
haven't had a chance to look fully at this. Most need recovery, but...

Hey, you came back!! Haha.
Well, trying to flash anything will give me the error "failed remote failure" and "preflash valiudation failed", I've tried to flash either factory recoveries and TWRP with the same result. Addtionally, If i try to flash any sparsechunk it will also give the error " invalid signed image".
I'll have to say that trying to enable USB debugging vía fastboot is an excellent idea, i did't try that, i hope i can do it without the recovery cuz i can't boot to it and until now, i couln't flash any recovery.
Thanks again!
Edit: I've read quite a bit and seems like in every case you would need a working recovery to allow USB debugging, so I think I can not do it in the actual state of things haha.
Edit2: I have a pair of questions:
1. Do i need to check allow oem unlocking in developer options in android 6.0 in order to unlock the bootloader?
2. In order to use RSD lite and it recognizing muy phone do i have to have USB debugging allowed?

Hey friend, i don't want to be a pushover. You're taking the time to help me and i see that, but i saw the video, and he starts the phone by making a data erase, i already did that, and the phone refuses to start. Same error. "version downgraded for boot" "failed to validate boot image" "fastboot reason: fall-through from normal boot mode".
And says in big red letters "Start up failed: Your device didn't start up succesfully. Use the software repair assistant on computer to repair your device."
I feel like i've tried everything.
Thanks again.

Bootloop on Motorola Moto G4 Play (Verizon) XT1609

I would like to recover the ROM on this Android this device it keeps bootlooping I tryed to Root the Device and I did a factory reset on it after I did a root... I thought everything was going find and it started to keep reloading the logo (Moto)...
I basically tried everything to recover the ROM on it using the following programs...
ADB Setup
MFastBoot (Error Message with Bootloader)
it seems to be locked device I can't seem to unlock the device... I seen someone that you don't have to have it unlock it to install TWRP or something....
Am all new to this stuff and I just got my phone I did not want anything happen to this phone for important use I would like to get this phone back up and running again...
Thanks

Am in the same boat. My Verizon Moto G4 Play XT1609 Bootloops after rooting and restarting. I have tried all else including repairing via Verizon Upgrade Assistant tool with no success (Ugrade Assistant tool detected my phone, flashed latest firmware and cleared user data only for the phone to resume bootloop :crying.
I had to try Upgrade Assistant tool since this model does not qualified for bootloader unlocking ("fastboot getvar all" returned cid: 0x0002)
I trust that all hope is not lost, having confidence someone would turn up something somehow
So, any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I asked a related question in https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4-play/help on 4/9 and have yet to receive any responses. I didn't see this question before. It looks like a very similar situation to mine.
My XT1609 also is bootlooping and the bootloader also is locked, so I assume that this is why I'm getting "Preflash validation failed" errors when I try to download stock images to it. I found harpia_vzw_oem_vzw_user_7.1.1_NPI26.48-38_48_release-keys-cid2_vzw.tar.gz through this site and have been attempting to use Linux/fastboot to download images from the tar. I am able to download and reflash one of the images, logo.img, but I get the prevalidation errors for everything else I've tried.
I'm not familiar with mfastboot or autoinitroot. Can someone tell me where I can get these and how to use them? Should I just need to use autoinitroot to fix the bootlooping or does this somehow allow me to flash images to the phone?
Thanks!

I have Android 7.1.1 installed on my phone, the stock Verizon OTA version. Could there be an incompatibility between this initroot image and the other software on the phone?
Thanks
