Love the walkthrough style. Thanks for writing this up.

Taking the dive later this week, I have been missing root since moving to QAA. I will try to update over the weekend.

Worked!
Everything worked like a charm. I was already on nougat. followed instructions from step 2 and everything is working. I did have to run root.bat twice to get supersu app to show up, but it was already stated in directions which helped greatly for me not to freak out at that point lol. Anyways as i stated it worked like a charm and anyone on the fence if you rooted before you will be able to do this for sure. Once again thank you very much good sir!

Thanks for the root method I have been waiting for something to come out can't wait to try.
And just a heads up it is frowned upon on XDA to share paid apps.

About to attempt, will post results

How is it running? Smooth? hot?

Im guessing its a package i disabled or didn't disable so it will take a bit to sort out. Its no biggie i might need to reroot. I can still raise the volume if i press volume down and move the slider. This is the only minor problem I've seen.

Does anyone know where I can find the nougat firmware? Trying to start fresh after a not successful root. Thanks

If that's the case I would suggest starting over...But just data? Can you call or text? Bluetooth?Hotspot? Is there an LTE symbol in notification bar with no data? Or is it just bars with no service completely? Double check your package disabler.

I imported your XML files for the disabled packages and attempted root. I had an error where it would take a few minutes for an app to update after downloading, do you know how to fix this?

I actually completely restarted the process by reflashing back to stock with the file you linked at the beginning and just followed the process again and got it working this time. Cheers for this tutorial. :good:

Try clearing google play store and google play services cache, if there is little cache then clear data and reenter your gmail. Youre talking about when updating in play store right? If not try only disabling these below instead [from goongydin's thread] and flash engineer. Or manually disabling from list(dont import). But once we disable these apps and flash boot img, these apps aren't supposed to change status which would mean repetitive testing. My honest answer is always going to be try from beginning again.

[How-To] Update to G900V_OC4 - 5.0 and KeepRoot (3/30/2015)

**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app.
**Caution!** The following process is only for the G900V Verizon S5 variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
Download:
- G900V_OC4_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- G900V_OC4_Stock_DeOdexed_ROM
Set your screen timeout setting to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and use default "Reboot" setting.
6. Last, press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash .
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Verizon splash screen for 1 - 2 minutes (10 - 15 mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Optional - Enable Native Tethering:
- G900V_OC4_TetherAddOn (Flash using FlashFire's "Flash zip or ota" option).
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Stock Recovery, and Bootloader to OC4.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing, the ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset. If you prefer not to wipe User Data replace the Updater-Script in the ROM's META-INF/com/google/android folder with the version attached to this post (remove ".txt" extension before placing in folder). Bear in mind that carrying over incompatible User Data from a prior Android version may cause issues.
4. If you do not already have root access (or to unbrick) you must flash the G900VVRU1ANCG_Full_Odin.tar (flash in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+)), root with Towelroot (this version does not require internet access), then proceed with the above process.
5. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

Let's just say the initial 5.0 release had a few bugs. Let's hope this release works better.
Thanks. I did your previous update with this method, and it worked great. Can you give the steps that are needed to get to where you need to be to now install this update? I think I know, but I'm not sure. Also, what about apps and settings? It does not seem they are preserved. It looks like the previous write up has been edited and no longer includes these steps. I had no problems with this part. Is it still an option to do that? Thanks for the awesome work!
update
So this will work fine updating if on rooted 0A8?
I would assume we could do a data backup, then restore data after flashing is done
So there's no need to flash a firmware or kernel in Odin after flashing the rom? Are we still going to be on 0A8 baseband? Or should we flash the OC4 kernel?

Correct, all necessary OC4 partitions including the kernel, modem, etc are included in the ROM.

Only recommended if your Data backup is from 5.0. Those updating from 4.4 should not restore Data for compatibility reasons.

No worries, good luck with SS.
Also fyi.....there is a guy in the N900V forum that has developed a safestrap replacement called multisystem. He is waiting for 5.0 before releasing and claims it will work on 5.0. If so, it can likely be easily ported to the S5.
Got it. I did see that. I guess it is just that simple. I thought there might be a little more detail needed, but I will give it a shot. Hopefully safestrap comes to lollipop one day to make it a little easier!

After flashing the ROM you can just reboot, no need to re-flash the OC4 kernel since the new ROM already flashed it.
Does anyone know if the Alarm clock works on silent now? I think they got rid of the interruption settings did they not?
I have run into a problem i can't figure out. When i try to run safestrap it just wont boot into it when i boot from the app. Have tried it many times. Thinking back wasn't safestrap broken when you are on 5.0? I went from kit kat, rooted and did the keep root tutorial to have it in 5.0. Not really sure what to do.

930A ATT S7 Snapdragon Xposed framework

Hey guys, so I just found out about this site and am a super noob but managed to Root my ATT S7 last night. I have been trying to install the Xposed framework but it looks like I cant get a custom recovery program onto my S7. Does anyone know how to get TWRP or CWM or any custom recovery onto the 930A? Or for that matter, Xposed install without a custom recovery?

Sure, I'll start from the beginning in case any other new people are wondering.
Basically, back up your files and restore your phone to factory so the root goes smoother.
Then proceed to this thread for the root. Oh yeah, install adb if you don't have it. They dont mention it and assume you know what it is, which noobs like me don't.
After a clean root, install Flashfire (you may need to disable samsung updates and reset the phones clock back to 2012 or something if Flashfire doesn't want to start). I used 0.31, maybe the newest will work? Easy to find in google.
On page 8 of the Root thread, there is a dropbox link to the Xposed apk and zip (Here). Move them to your phone and install the apk, then use Flashfire to boot the zip.
I think that's pretty much it, Xposed should be running after the Flashfire reboot (which can take a long time as it will Optimize apps).
psouza4 has an awesome thread on what to do after Root and Xposed to make the phone run smoother.
If you do something wrong and absolutely can't fix it, see here for re-flashing back to stock.
Hope this helps someone, took me about 2 days to search all of this out. The AT&T S7 is such a pain in the ass with it's locked bootloader, but this place is > AT&T!

Did you use this guide for getting root?
[GUIDE]HOW TO ROOT YOUR MATE 9 with Decrypt Data in TWRP without needing a patched
Did it go well? I'm going to follow your steps as I have completely the same version of the device.

to update thru OTA u must reflash stock Recovery, then after updated to the latest firmware BL will be lock and your root will be gone,so u need to unlock BL and flash TWRP and redo all the rooting steps again.
Is there a op that tells how to do that and can i extract a copy of the stock recovery sorry to ask such obvious questions but im trying to learn how to do all this. Thanks again

Try wiping cache and dalvik/art cache in twrp. Then check Settings - Notifications & Statusbar - Notifications Management if they're allowed.

Then I don't know.
Try reinstalling them?
Or do you mean notifications on lockscreen? Because they won't show.
Huawei locked it down good. (at least for me, can't even get Spotify to show current song)
Floatify works great for lockscreen notifications though.
Edit: Actually, more people seem to have notification bugs with Messenger and WhatsApp. Maybe it's just a Huawei thing?
Or did they work before rooting?
Could you also check that they're not being closed automatically by the super aggressive battery saver thingie?
Settings - Battery: check that Power Saving is not turned on.
Next click on the cogwheel in the battery screen and make sure "Close excessively power-intensive apps" is not turned on.
And check in Settings - Apps - [App you want to check] - Battery that "Close after screen locked" is not turned on.

[Guide/Fix] App package conflict when install. (August patch no root)

Hello.
Im not sure if someone else also found the fix for app conflicts and errors when u mannualy update system apps. But I found a working fix.
When I was testing something to fix my led cover but find out this will resolve the annoying conflicts when manually updating system apps.
So this will work for as I tested so far for 10 minuts or when u reboot. After that u need to do this again.
1. Go to device security.
2. Go to safe or secure start up. Im not English so.
3. If secure start up is disabled turn it on and reboot.
3. If secure start up is enabled turn it off and reboot.
I was able to update all apps I had conflicts before. But when I reboot again u will need to redo step 3. Only this time it will be turning on or off instead of off or on. So bassicly when it was turned off then u will turn it on instead.
Hope this will help for u guys aswell.
I just tried this workaround, and I can confirm it WORKS!:good:

So basically u CANT just turn it off and reboot but
1. turn off&reboot
2. turn on reboot
3. turn off again and reboot one last time??
Because I still get the error when I just turn it off and reboot
Im trying to install 3 apks to get Note 8 Live messages. Im still not sure it works but cant confirm because I can't install it.

Every one I have tried is extremely laggy and I lose hotspot.
the lag is because of the engboot. there are fixes to get it close to working.
there are fixes for the hotspot as well.
i hope to see more action here as well. its an old phone and the domestic bootloader is locked. i think these are the main reasons for the dead forum
Yeah the boot is locked and can't install any custom roms, but I did it and it took me a little bit to find out but no lags or anything like that. ... I actually mixed to ways to do it from two forums. I'm posting the steps...
Do it at your own risk.
Disable Packages: (BK disable pro) Worth the money.
samsung dm phone interface = com.samsung.syncmlphoneif
samsung dm service = com.samsung.syncservice
securityLogAgent = com.samsung.android.securitylogagent
com.sec.android.soagent = software update
com.wssyncmldm = software update
open Odin and flash Eng.Boot then it will get into boot loop(if not skip to the next step) flash this after boot loop Samsung_G935x_QC_Rooted_BOOT
run root.bat floder "D:\S7\SM root\Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V2\root.bat"
no fixing option not installing tweeks for root
Open Build.Prop with BuildProp Editor and change the following settings:
ro.cdma.default_numeric=310000 to 310120
ro.cdma.default_alpha=Chameleon to sprint
ro.build.characteristics=Chameleon to sprint
Make sure you grant root permissions when it asks. You may have to try this twice. Reboot and LTE should stick
Download S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_V15.zip to your internal or external
storage and install install FlashFire from the playstore.
Open FlashFire and let it acquire root access.
Click the + button at the bottom right corner then click on Flash ZIP or OTA.
Navigate and select the S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_V15.zip. file.
Leave the options alone and click the check in the top right. Scroll down to the bottom and click flash.
Your phone will reboot and flash the zip. This can take a while.
Go to Settings>Lock screen and security>Other security settings>Security policy updates and turn off "Automatic updates" and "Wi-Fi only". Reboot.
This seems to be the culprit of the 7 day soft brick.
Regards

So are you disabling those before you flash the boot tar?

Yes, you have to disable those before flashing the eng boot file. It has been a while, but I think if you leave them enabled, your phone will boot and then reboot after a few seconds. Any reason why you want to root? There are a lot of non-root workarounds and your phone will be more stable.

I'm just one of the weird ones that likes to completely customize their phone lol. Boot animations, exposed, stuff like that. I am thinking about ordering a SM-G935U board for my phone because it looks like they actually got somewhere with that build. I'm a firm believer that if you own something, you should be able to do what you want with it. Samsung is becoming the Window's of the phone development world.
Did you find a way to root it
