Gentlemen/ladies,
I've been using my M2 aqua for business for years now, sadly I never ran a backup nor did I use google for anything. Dropped the phone, I can hear it working but the screen is black (no cracks, just black)
The only thing i've been able to do is pull a backup with Xperia Companion, those backups however look like data I can't use. Xperia Companion allowed me to retrieve photos which weren't really all that important, it doesn't allow me to retrieve contact information or text messages.
Getting the contacts back would be nice, saves me days of calling around retrieving my contacts, getting the text messages back however is crucial, there's stuff in there i'll be needing in court. Not talking about lost messages to ex girlfriends here.
The phone isn't rooted, doesn't have USB debugging on, all I got is sony backup files I can't use and the pin code I can't enter.
Anyone know how I can get my messages & contacts off this thing?

So i originally had my phone rooted, but after a couple months of having my phone bother me about updating, i decided to do it. Needless to say, I lost root. I was planning on rooting it again, but my phone got knocked out of my hand and fell, cracking the screen and making it useless (no more touch and screen won't power on). So now i'm trying to pull my contacts and my text messages from the phone, but since it's not rooted, I can't figure out a way to do it. Also, i tried going through adb, but it keeps saying "device not found", even though my phone still powers up and works (I can tell because I keep getting text messages and my phone rings. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get my information off the phone and on my pc? I've also tried using 'MyPhoneExplorer', but it can't find my phone either.
Your contacts will be backed up to your Google Account, but not your texts unfortunately
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I've used this app for years:
SMS Backup and Restore
It doesn't back up MMS though (picture messages). You can manually save any pics sent to you via text to your SD card using every text app I've seen, including the stock ones. That said, I suspect by now there are apps that will back up MMS.
Looks like the stock Messaging app can save text messages as well....
The Problem:
Sometime last week, several--but not all--of my text messages disappeared from both Google Hangouts and my native SMS app. Only recent texts went missing, while past messages from those same people were visible in the Contact History. I noticed for two reasons: 1) my incoming messages after last Monday all were basically new threads and the previous texts with those individuals/groups were gone, and 2) I needed to keep a record of a particular thread with my ex who became abusive in the case that I would need to file a restraining order. He is bright, but borderline which means he's unstable. I am anxious about having lost those texts with him and also insatiably curious, which is why I'm posting here.
Sidenote: Yes, I have heard of SMS Backup & Restore. No, I did not use it before. Yes, I plan to use it in the future.
My Phone Details:
Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999L)
Android version 4.3
Baseband version T999LUVUBNF4
Sidenote: I know missing texts is a known issue with this phone, so if that is what you think it is after reading this, please tell me. However, it's bothersome to me because all threads before 3/23 disappeared from my SMS app, BUT I can still see *some* (but not all!) texts by looking through my contact history. Also bothersome is that on 3/20, I told my ex (by text) that if he did not stop contacting me, I would file a restraining order. Of course this mysterious loss of data could be completely coincidental, too.
What I've Tried So Far
1. I tried to use Dr.Fone software to find the lost messages. It got stuck at the "Analyzing Device" screen, so no luck there.
2. Yesterday, I rooted my phone after poring over this website for several hours. I used CF Autoroot. Although I was unsuccessful at using adb commands on both my phone (Terminal Emulator) and computer (SDK), I was able to navigate the root directories using ROM Toolbox Pro (Hallelujah! That process was driving me crazy!).
3. I looked at all the "mmssms.db" databases (/databases/com.android.providers.telephony/mmssms.db) - no luck. It only contained the recent messages that are visible in the SMS app.
4. I discovered that I could see older text messages by looking through the Contact History (View Contact > History). Many threads were deleted all the way back to 2014, but 1 thread still had texts from 3/22/15. So, I went on the hunt and discovered "logs.db" (/databases/com.sec.android.provider.logsprovider/logs.db).
5. In logs.db, I could see up to 1000 rows with the names of people, including those people whose threads were deleted. Their names and numbers are all present and accounted for, but when I view the M_Content column, I see a bunch of blank spaces where text content should be, all the way back until April of 2014 (with the exception of the thread with 2 texts on 3/22/15).
Other Strange Happenings
This could be selective memory, but in the last week my phone has been acting very strangely, turning off spontaneously, even when charged, and getting lots of error messages (Sorry, X App must close).
The Chicken Or The Egg
What do you think? Is my phone glitching and therefore I lost the data, or did I lose the data, perhaps by some nefarious means, and therefore my phone is glitching? Does this sound like a typical data loss situation to you?
Final Caveats
Please use layman's terms. I am not an expert by any stretch, so the more jargon used to advise, the more hours I will spend trying to discern what you are trying to tell me.
Thank you in advance for your help.
hi everyone,
i have viber installed in my xperia z3, also in my tablet, so i have so many data sent/received in both z3 and the tablet, such as messages, photos, videos...etc. yesterday, i activated viber on an ipod touch, then its activated. i went to open viber in my z3 and it's initialized, i was asked to enter again my phone number if its my first installation!
same data are still existing in the tablet, but i don't have them anymore in my z3... please is there anyway to restore all of them back? i didn't delete or uninstall viber at all it was just initialized after i activated it in ipod touch.. still have my photos, videos stored in the phone, but also i need the messages back too...
PLEASE ANYONE CAN HELP ME OR SUGGEST TO ME HOW I CAN DO THAT?
possible to import them from the tablet or from viber PC?
thanks for any help!
Has anyone been able to restore SMS messages from another phone on the Xperia 5?
I tried using Xperia Transfer with both WiFi and cloud transfer but while it appears to transfer correctly and goes through the restore process the messages do not appear in the Messages app. Xperia Transfer got an update a week ago after which I tried again, but it still didn't work after that. I also tried clearing all the messages on the Xperia 5 first, but that didn't help either.
In case it was just an Xperia Transfer problem, I tried the SMS Backup & Restore app which similarly says it has managed to restore all the messages but then they also fail to appear. This is transferring from an Xperia X, though I don't think that should matter. Is there maybe some permission missing that is needed to get this to work?
As a follow-up, after the 55.0.A.11.25 update I tried with Xperia Transfer again and still nothing, but then after the next SMS message arrived they all then appeared. Cacheing problem maybe.
My mom decided to be a dumbass and keep a bunch of photos stored permanently in the text messaging app. Whenever someone sent her something, she wouldn't actually save it, just leave it in the messaging history and dig through the relevant messages whenever she wants to use the photo again. Now, she has a new phone, and she wants all of the pictures that are currently in the text message app on her old phone to be stored in a folder on her new phone, or at the very least to be on her new phone in some form. Ideally, what I want is to get a tarball of all of the messaging app's data that I can then cp *.jpg all of the images out of, and then I can email her the images. I am unwilling to try to root the phone because there are no backups of it, so I don't want to risk breaking anything.
The first thing I tried were the SMS transfer apps from the play store, such as this and this. In theory, these would be the easiest to use solution, and while they wouldn't be out of the messaging app, at least they would be on the new phone. I tried about 10 of them, multiple times each. Every single one would claim to have succeeded in transferring over the messages, but absolutely nothing ever appeared on the new phone.
The next thing I decided to try was LG Switch, since both phones were made by LG. Unfortunately, that didn't work out either. It wanted to wipe the new phone and basically set it up to be an exact copy of the old one. My mom has already started to use the new phone, so nuking the entire phone and copying everything over is not acceptable. Additionally, the radios on the old phone only work intermittently (one of the reasons that the phone was replaced), so I don't want to do anything that will take more than a minute or two over wireless.
Next, I tried Helium. The desktop app opens fine, but the app on the phone doesn't work. Sometimes, I get the application homescreen with a popup claiming that it is waiting for the desktop application and a cancel button that doesn't work. Sometimes, I get a solid white screen. In either case, the desktop app doesn't see it, the phone slows down and gets hot, and eventually I get a "Helium is not responding" popup. This has persisted across multiple attempts to wipe Helium's data and reinstall it.
The final thing I tried was LG Backup, which was buried in the settings menu. The old phone created a backup just fine, but the backup is in a proprietary format that I can't open on my laptop, and LG does not make it clear whether restoring on the new phone will keep the data that's already there or not. Additionally, this will still have the images trapped in a messaging app, except on the new phone instead of the old one.
I'm out of ideas. Anything else I can try? Any way I can fix the issues with something I already tried? Any way I can do this manually with ADB? In case it matters, the old phone is an LG G2 from T-Mobile (Model LG-D801) on Android 5.0.2, and the new phone is an LG K40.
