Google Assistant - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

Has anybody received the update to allow Google Assistant to function on our phones?
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Note5

The main app got an update, on the default widget changed from "Google" and now is only a "G". I believe Google has to made changes to enable the Assistant.

I can't seem to get Google Assistant working so not sure my phone has gotten the update.

Not on my phone either, guys. Pretty infuriating to be honest.

Only eligible devices will get it, not all phones at the same time.

Well mine's definitely an eligible device. It meets all the criteria but still haven't got it. And they said they were doing the US first. I'm just waiting to see cuz it would be nice to have. Even though I think the way it works now is just fine. I can set alarms or play music and even turn the flashlight on or off.

Apparently, you can just download the updated apk. Haven't tried it myself yet, though. I already have a pixel and my moto g4 plus has had a working port for a while now.

It wont work on Note 5 until Google releases a Google Play Services update to us.

That isn't going to be the version when they roll out the assistant enabled version. Look for a version number 10.5.x or 10.6.x. Version 11.x wouldn't be out of question either. People talk about a server side switch, but that doesn't make a lot of sense, to me anyway. Google Assistant servers are already running and Google obviously has the additional server space needed for a rollout this massive, so I am pretty sure it's a GPS update we need. Just a roll out of an update to Play Services as the rumored update of Google Now to 6.15.x has apparently enabled it in the app.
Wait for a rollout. Watch APKMirror updates on Twitter for an updated apk.

Google will do the changes to their servers or whatever its needed. All we have to do is wait.

The beta versions of Play Services aren't assistant enabled. Does anyone read? Suggestion- Make a Twitter account that's only for Android stuff and follow Android related everything on it. I follow like 80 Android related profiles. It's hard to miss much news that way. Follow APKMirror for just about split second news on apk updates, like Play Services.

[VOLUNTEER NEEDED] Anyone Who Is Buying a Google Experience GS4

Hey Everyone,
I maintain a website, randomphantasmagoria.com, where I maintain a firmware archive of official production Google ROMs for every Nexus and Google Experience device from the OG Droid onward. I plan to archive the Google Experience GS4 ROMs as well, assuming the ROMs actually come from Google and not from Samsung.
If someone is buying one, I'd love if you could help me out with something. I need some information on the phone, and you will need to get it as soon as you turn the phone on for the first time, before doing any out-of-the-box system updates.
Here is the info I'll need:
1. The bootloader version. You will have to reboot into bootloader (fastboot) mode to do this. When you do, the bootloader version should be displayed on screen.
2. The baseband version from Settings | About Phone.
3. The value of ro.build.fingerprint from /system/build.prop.
4. IF YOU HAVE AN UPDATE NOTIFICATION: Before applying the update, do the following. Turn on USB debugging after the notification appears on screen. Go into Settings | Developer Options and select "Take Bug Report". Your phone will email a text file to the email address on your Google account. Open that text file and search it for ".zip" (without the quotes) and post the URL to the ZIP file.
This will be unbelievably helpful.
Thank you in advance!

Thanks. Just make sure you do it before you apply any system updates that might be available out of the box.
Also, another plus to the Nexus 4 is that you know updates come straight from Google. All Hugo Barra would say about the GES4 at I/O was that it would receive "prompt system updates". It remains to be seen whether the GES4's ROM is from Google or from Samsung. If it's a Samsung ROM, you can bet that while the system updates will be "prompt" compared to almost any other phone on the market, it'll still take a good month or two to get updates.
As soon as someone gets this phone, we'll know within 2 minutes if it's a Google ROM or a Samsung ROM. Just look at the Android build number in Settings | About Phone. If it's a standard 5- or 6-character build number like JDQ39 or JDQ39E, it's Google. If the build number is anything else (for example JDQ39.I9505GXXUMD1), it's a Samsung ROM.

Android Central posted a video which includes the "About device" screen. Build number is listed as JDQ39.I9505GUEUAMFD (I9505GUEUAMFD is also listed as the baseband).
So based on what you have said it sounds like updates will likely not be coming directly from Google

For me, since the updates don't come from Google, there's really no advantage to buying one of these. If you're in the market for an unlocked GS4, you may as well get the skinned Touchwiz version. Either way the OEM is the middleman for updates. So unless you just love the stock Android UI that much, you'll get a ton more features for your money by going Touchwiz.

[APK] Google Now Launcher

Hello guys,
If anybody interested in getting the new Google Now Launcher, I tested the app in the link provided below. It seems to work fine, even "ok google" seems to work (only after restart), thought I did not test it in other languages except English...
This surely is not my work, I just wanted to share this find on xda. Thank the OP in the thread linked below.

Edit: Wow this seems extremely outdated... Maybe someone can point us towards a much more recent version...
Edit 2: It seems now it is available on play store.. the latest version.
Huh, you got this to work? I tried this out a couple of months back but was getting force closes.

I did not do anything special. Just installed the apk. I guess it has something to do with the version of the Google search app. If it is new enough, it works.
I read somewhere that the launcher app itself is part of the google search an the launcher.apk is just a pointer/bridge. Does not really have much code. Code is within the search app.
Yea, that is true how they communicate with each other. Guess I may have went about it the wrong way back then which is why I ran in to problems.

Samsung Pay Beta Testers

With today's announcement of Samsung Pay's impending release in the US, I was wondering how one might get involved in the beta testing. According to The Verge, " 'select US users' will be able to take part in a beta test beginning on August 25th." Any way to sign up to be one of those "select users" or will they hand it out semi-randomly?

I hear ya. I've resisted doing a full root (did pingpong) to see how this would turn out. When I upgraded in April it was this feature that made me go for the S6 instead of the Note 4. I'm hoping someday someone somewhere will find away to have both root and Samsung Pay. For now, I'm just keeping my options open until I can decide if it's worth it.

I've found the link to be able to download the Samsung Pay Beta .apk file but I haven't figured out how to get it to install. Does someone else want to try? I'm stuck on a Samsung S6 Edge running 5.0.2. I wonder if you have to have 5.1.1 to run it.
Korea Link - https://kr.mpay.samsung.com/apk
US Link - https://us.mpay.samsung.com/apk
I've only been able to get the Korean link to load. Once I log in with my Samsung account, I can download and install the apk, it even runs, but doesn't go past the start button.....I tried changing the settings for which app is used for tap and pay, and I even changed the advanced nfc settings. Nothing.
Here's a download link for the Samsung Pay .apk file I found on the Korean link. It lets me install it on my Samsung S6 Edge+ running android 5.1.1.

Whats the difference between samsung pay and google wallet?
Sent from my SM-G920P using XDA Free mobile app
Samsung pay supports both NFC and MST. Google wallet, Android Pay, and Apple pay only support NFC. Samsung has the only phones that supports MST. Basicly, it means you can use your phone to pay even when the store has old outdated terminals.

where did Samsung pay go?

I've had this watch for a few months using it with my Pixel XL and Samsung pay has been working fine since I got it. Recently it hasn't been working and every time I open the gear app I get a message saying Samsung pay has stopped working. I tried resetting the watch, uninstalling everything related to it from my pixel and set it up as if it was new. Now there isn't even an option for Samsung pay in the gear app and holding the back button does nothing. Does anyone know why it disappeared?
