Has anyone got Google Assistant yet? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

With Google rolling out Google Assistant to all MM and higher phones, our Mate 9 should also get Google Assistant. Has anyone got it yet?

Nope

Yes. L29C567 here.
I keep getting a HiVoice error though out of nowhere on homescreen and when I'm trying to answer the phone.

Out of curiosity, how do you know when the updates done? Did something show up on the screen prompting you to activate it?

Edit.
I replied with the wrong info... So I updated to B167 and then just updated the Google app.

Just disable "OK Google" detection from any screen...

i have got it but i can only use it when the screen is unlocked. I have the l29 636 b158 version.

I keep checking, but nothing. I was in Denver through Friday, and in Las Vegas until tomorrow, and no luck. I'll keep trying, because I'm ADHD like that...=).

I got it... I entered Google app beta program.. have my phone on Us language. Turned on WiFi. Next day in the morning had my assistant.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers Legacy app

To get it you should have your phone's language and Google's language set to English US. And maybe the beta for Google Play Services.
As soon as i changed the languages to US i received the assistant (can take up an hour or 2).

Google Assistant? Anyone?

Keep reading that I should receive an update to Google Play Services - not through my provider but right from Google Play. So far no dice.
Anyone else?
I got a EMUI update this morning, thinking it was laying the ground work for GA,but still no dice
I entered an extra line in build.prop and voila. but you need root for that.

Can you tell me how? I Tried to put that line in my build.prop ro.opa.eligible_device=true , but I can't save it
Are you on nougat and rooted? I used the BuildProp Editor app from the play store.
After adding the line and saving, delete cache and data of the Google App.
Reboot and you'll have the assistant.
Apparently since the last Play Services app update there is no need to edit build.prop so just try updating that and wiping Google app data.
GA for those that can't get the app to work, just install Google Allo. It's active in Allo by default
Probably wont get Google Assistant, because I live in Sweden
Yeah it was a US roll out first, and then more places.
What a lot of articles failed to mention is that only some devices are eligible, not all.
No clue what the requirements are. Only 6.0 and above.
I'm waiting until the rollout is done, and then I'm sure there will be a way to do it. Or I'll just wait to root and then do it with build.prop.
More importantly where is that damn bug fix patch from Huawei so i can finally root?
France here. Got Assistant this morning along with the b380 patch
No assistant here is the US on the LO4 variant on B360. However none of my phones or phones of people I know have gotten it. I think its going to be a slow rollout.

I just got Google Assistant. Try to install the latest Play Services apk (you could search on ApkMirror), clear the cache of both, Google App and Play Services, and then reboot your phone. That's what I did.
I installed Allo and enable the google app(which I disabled early). The google app seem to enable google assistant system wide. Now I am figuring out how to change "OK Google" to something else...

Google assistant

Anyone got the update on the m9? If not,how to force it?

I think I did yesterday. I never really used Google Now, so it's hard for me to know whether what I'm seeing is Google Now or Google Assistant, but when I long press the home button, I get the search functionality, ability to set reminders, etc. Also, I can say "ok google, send a text to..." and it will do it. I'm not sure Google Now could do that.

And just to clarify this is a world wide release right? Doesn't matter where you are as long as your device is set to US English and running marshmallow or greater?

Google Assistant?

I've been reading quite a bit about the Google Play Services update that will bring Google Assistant to Marshmallow and Nougat devices. Anyone been lucky enough to actually see this update? I check the Play Store every couple of days and haven't seen it yet myself.

Funny how I could be so specific and still get a troll response. Oh well guess XDA is just like any other forum. Gotta love it when the guy with one hundred posts thinks the guy with fewer posts is less informed. Keep trolling El.

You're welcome.
Got it figured out and you don't have to install "Allo" or root your device. Just to be clear.
Took some digging around, but I've managed to get it activated.
First you'll need to sign up for Beta versions of both the Google app and Google Play Services. Once you have them installed and up-to-date you will have to visit the individual app back end to clear the data the older versions have stored on your device. Visit "Settings" then "Apps". Look for "Google App" and Google Play Services". You'll find the option to clear the data after clicking "Storage" and "Manage Space" options.
Open the "Google App" either by long pressing the home key or by visiting your app tray and pressing the icon. You'll be asked some questions. Once they are answered and the app has opened fully you can then open the menu tray on the upper left corner. You'll see "Enable Assistant" in the upper left corner. Click and follow the on screen directions. Before you know it you'll have the full version of "Google Assistant".
I'm happy to help anyone that is trying to navigate my brief guide.
Well I have done all this and while in settings it says Google Assistant is on, it is actually not the full fledged Assistant.

Huawei Apps Update how?

I've noticed that the Mate 9's apps aren't in the play store. It doesn't appear it has it's own Store either. How the heck do they update?
They either have the auto-update or they do not update at all.
MetroPCS has some apps installed on their Samsungs and are not present in any store. So they either update automatically, or they do not update at all.

Sigh.. I was afraid of that. Makes me want to look elsewhere when the Mate 10 comes out. I'd hate to wait for system updates just to fix bugs in messaging or even the mail app.

True, but you could also use third-party apps that you can find in Google Play instead of the default one from Huawei.

Oh for sure. I usually give the built in apps a shot because when you theme the phone, none of the non-huawei apps obviously theme and it throws the look off. I know that seems stupid, but hey. Also, I know this isn't Samsung, but have you ever tried to use 3rd party apps instead of theirs? All kinda of crap doesn't work right from the gallery to messaging and so on.
well...

I tried googling "hiapp apk" and it led me straight to Huawei's official app store where HiApp is available for download...
alternatively try to connect to HiSuite on your computer... there it would also prompt you to update the different apps when new versions become available...
HiApp is its own app store for Huawei mobiles and tablets. And you can download the package installer, . apk file, for HiApp store from official website of Huawei as below.

Guide to enable Google services on China variant AL00

Hi everyone,
I've been seeing many people having issues with installing Google framework on the AL00 variant.
The fact is that Google framework is already baked in and it is just a simple update to enable it.
1. Open app gallery and change country to China
2. Search for Google play store and click update
3. After update, click on open
4. The usual setup will appear
5. Done.
After the above steps, the majority of Google services and sync, etc should all be working.
* Update - OK Google does not work out of the box.
Have a good time with your new baby ?
Cheers!
Vincent

I should say Google framework instead of services. I need to test out Google assistant as I don't use it but "OK Google" might not work at all due to Hivoice.
I'll update this thread to reflect more facts.
I just used the browser to look up "Google play store" and it gave me an option to download/update it, I've never opened the app gallery and everything works fine ??
I do the same? thanks

Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the suggestion above. I have legit fried my tiny brain on all aspects of getting google play to activate/update install what have you.
My location in the App Store ALREADY says China - and I am still unable to open or update the Google Play Store.
Any other suggestions? I am also unable to create a Huawei ID for the phone, it keeps saying "Restricted" and won't let me. Any work-arounds for this?
