Google now launcher on Honor 6 plus

Hi, I have trouble setting Google Now launcher on my Honor 6 plus. I have downloaded Google app and Google now Launcher from play store and when running Google Now I get a message about setting it under Manage Apps -> Default App Settings but when I get there there's no Google Now launcher option. I rebooted my phone, reinstalled, rebooted again and still no Google Now option.
Huawei launcher is fine but I wanted to use a voice search app and that's the only reason I want to switch to Google Now. I tried the same with Nova Launcher and it worked fine. My phone is rooted and using CWM recovery by the way, although I don't think that affects it.

[Q] Default Launcher

Trying to switch to Nova Launcher. Changing the default launcher to Nova doesn't stick. The default keeps resetting automatically back to EMUI. Looking for a solution.
i have the mate 9 and nova launcher prime, on my phone it sticks to nova launcher, you have to set the default to nova launcher and then keep pressing the back button until you exit the setting pages. If you close the settings after it may create problems. Also, you can set default voice control to google launcher3 this will enable google now to be on all the time and on any screen. This works well on my phone. Also if you install google Allo app, then you will get google assistant on that app, so when you say "ok google, open google allo app", you will get google assistant. My experience with the mate 9 has been good, but overall i think the galaxy s7 edge wins hand down. If you are considering getting the mate 9 pro, then dont, get the s7 edge and then upgrade to s8 that will be launched in march/april 2017.

Thanks, that's how I do it. But, EMUI still keeps taking over.
Go to default application settings and choose nova as default.
Nova
Have you installed nova prime?,
If you have, then follow the steps i posted, if it still doesnt work, factory reset your phone and then install nova prime first and then google launcher3 app straight afterwards. This will stop any other apps from drawing over nova and google launcher., plus you will have nova and google now from any screen by saying "google now", also if you install google allo app, then saying "ok google open up google allo app, you will get google assistant. Google assistant is loaded into allo app. Drop me email and let me now how you get on. This works for me, even if i reboot phone it still works. I think when you are selecting nova launcher as default app, huawei home is drawing over that app to set itself to default. Also in app permissions you should select yes for everything for nova (trusted app) and also google launcher3. This will then allow nova and google launcher3 (which is the newer version of google now) to draw over apps you install afterwards.
Please email me and let me know how you get on, i am sure it will work after you do this...,
Why this one doesn't work?

It works, but after a while EMUI becomes default again.
One of my buddys have the same Problem. But he get a Error Message that the Nova Launcher get a conflict with EMUI.
By the way, another good launcher comes from Microsoft. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.launcher
It works fine on my Mate 9
Enabling "Agressive Desktop" in Nova settings seems to have fixed this.
This is driving me crazy. Only happens occasionally. The only pattern I can detect is in the car with Waze and Google Music playing through Bluetooth which seems to nearly always result in Huawei Home becoming the default launcher.
Tried the above and granting Nova and Nova prime "ignore battery optimization" all to no avail.
I am using the Chinese Mate on B153.
Any further suggestions?
I'm having exact same issue. Really hope they fix this with a software patch.
Besides nova launcher, have you guys been able to get any other launchers to work stable?

I have the same issue driving me nuts.
I contacted nova and they suggested uninstalling nova and reinstalling which I did ok for a night then the same problem .
I hope once I get my bootloader code and install the europe ROM it might help if it keeps doing it it's a deal breaker for me I think
Been using a combo of Google now and nova launcher for a week.
.That was on b110. Still going without issue on b138.
Assuming you guys are setting up default in the setting/app/setting/defaultapp
Yes I do the deafaults and it's ok for a while then bang unlock the phone and it's reset it's a pain

Article went up on androidauthority today. It was about mate 9 issues and fixes. Might want to check it out. Doubt there is anything new there though.
Have you factory reset yet? Reinstalled ROM/update. It's definitely a bug
Was going to wait for my boot loader unlock code first 😁
I've had the same problem when running Chinese firmware. This problem, thank goodness, does not exist with non-Chinese firmware.
That's what I was hoping for 7 days left so I can apply for the code then I can use funky to blitz it

Launch Google Assistant with HOME button on stock MIUI8/MIUI9 without ROOT

First of all,
Follow this xda-developers guide to enable Google Assistant - Click Here or continue reading.
If you fail to set your Google Assistant working, make sure two things
1. You're using this version
Google App 7.4.21.21.arm64 (nodpi) (Android 5.0+) - Download Here
2. You have Nova Launcher ( Okay, we only need this once to set up and after then your stock MIUI launcher or any other launcher is fine. )
Follow this quote from the above article -
1. Find an empty spot on your home screen and long-press to add something new.
2.Tap on “Widgets.”
3. Under “Nova Launcher” tap and hold “Activities” and drag it to your home screen.
4. Scroll down and find the “Google App.”
5. Tap on it to expand it, and select com.google.android.apps.gsa.staticplugins.opa.hq.OpaHqActivity.
6. This will add a new “Google Assistant” icon to your home screen which is a shortcut to this activity. Tap on this icon.
7. You’ll now find yourself within the new Assistant “explore” screen where Google categorizes available integrations, how to use them, and quick access to make custom shortcuts.
8. Swipe over to the “Your Stuff” tab up top.
9. Tap on “Add Reminder” to trigger Google Assistant. What this action does is launch the activity com.google.android.apps.gsa.staticplugins.opa.OpaActivity – which normally can’t be accessed on your unrooted device.
You’ll now be taken through the hotword setup process. Teach it to recognize your voice, and you’re done! Now you can access Google Assistant by saying “OK Google!”

Now when your Assistant is ready, How to launch it by long pressing home button?
Here it goes,
1. Download this Google Assistant.apk and install it
( It only supports on Marshmallow+ ROMs but I've tweaked it to work on Lolliipop too)
2. open and if it asks you to update your google app, update it from play store
3. Now open Assistant app and it should launch google assistant.
4. Now Download Button remapper(no root) from play store : Here
and set long press home button to ( other.. > app> Assistant (You just installed) )
Now check if it's working.
( You can uninstall Nova Launcher now)
Benefits you have now:
1. Your google app is always latest. You're not stuck to June version anymore in order to use Assistant
2. You get to use latest Assistant features
3. You use Assistant in a way no less than devices having Android 6.0 or more.
Cheers!!!
Hit thanks if helped
It says google assistant requires android 6.0 or above.
I tried with the apk given (Google App 7.4.21.21.arm64 ) but then the activity in nova launcher doesn't open.
Google Assistant is now supported on Android Lollipop also. Update you Google app and it should automatically appear. The above guide isn't needed anymore.

Any way to change the launcher yet ?

Chinese rom , can't change the launcher
That is normal for Chinese rom, we cannot change the default launcher
There are 2 methods to do it. Look around the forum.
Gestures apps from play store are the key
https://forum.xda-developers.com/em...-launchers-t4053261/post81803425#post81803425
I tried it and it works. Cons. Default Gestures won't work Anymore so u need to download any gesture app from play store

How to get Google Discover in default launcher?

I am using Nova Luncher(play store version) as of now for the Google Discovery function. However, Nova Launcher on this phone for some reason is very unstable and keep on crashing. I am considering switching back to the default luncher but I will miss the Google Discover. Anybody know any method or ways to replace the Smart Assistant screen in the default launcher with Google Discovery? I am fine with complicated or troublesome work-arounds.
Thanks!
Note: I know I can flash another custom rom if I want a stable default launcher with Google Discovery but I cannot unlock the bootloader (hopefully for now) as my model (Malaysia) is "Carrier-locked" according to the in-depth test app.
It's not possible without a custom rom so leave it be or disable with ADB. I use the Google search app to get discover.
