I ran across this SMS app a while back when I flashed a custom ROM called Mokee OS which was based on android 6.0.1. There was a stock SMS app included in the ROM that I "fell in like with". I'm back on LP now though, and the messaging app doesn't seem to be compatible with that version of android as it just crashes after being opened. I have the app's icon, and I'm hoping someone could give me it's name so I could probably search the internet to see if theres a LP compatible version out there. Thanks.

I can't post in the development section so I post my problems here, sorry for that.
I flashed @Omar-Avelar's ROM over stock JB EU firmware but the 4.2 AOSP SMS app doesn't seem to be working for me. After I replaced it with deoxed Motorola's messaging.apk(deleted mms.apk and MmsDependencies.apk in /system/app/ in Omar ROM and set -rw-r--r--/644 permission for the newly copied Moto's messaging.apk at the same place) SMS could work again. Can anyone tell me whether my text messages were sent successfully according to the screenshot? Surely I never received any incoming messages as you see.
I really love the looking and some convenient features of the 4.2 AOSP SMS app but what should I do to have it work
BTW: In this ROM, Google voice search crashes when opened from either Google search widget or app drawer.

Yes, screenshot in the OP shows what happened for the SMS app in Omar's ROM. Stock Motorola SMS app works like following screenshot:
I remember I get this one from you thanks by the way:laugh:

It's known issue. Some of people have problems with AOSP SMS app. If you read the whole thread with Omar's ROM you can find something about it. Nobody knows why does this problem appears.

Thanks for the information, I'll look further into it.
Has anyone got to the bottom of this yet? I have just installed Omar's latest ROM (3rd June) and I cannot receive texts. I tried installing shaftenberg's 'no limit' messaging mod instead but I cannot find the app - my old shortcut says app not installed and I cannot find it in launcher. The messaging.apk definitely exist because I can find it in root explorer or titanium backup. I know Omar gas hidden it somehow but nit sure how.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I really don't want to go back to the stock jb with moto blur. Thanks

You should have new shortcut in the list of apps. And try to search mms.apk or mmsdependencies.apk in your file explorer, that should be messaging .apk.
Is it possible to get this app running on our G3? I don't like the stock email app it doesn't handle contacts correctly with exchange.
I figured it out. I placed both files in System/App and gave them permission 0644. RW-R-R. Rebooted and Android upgraded and the Email was there.
Google Stock Email?

I just switched to LG and don't like the stock email one bit.
Is that apk for the google stock email (yellow colored)? Sorry, I'm not familiar with AOSP, so idk if it's the same one or not.
Thanks!!
Yes it's yellow. The @ symbol on the LG stock email app is black outlined. On the aosp it's white. Hope this helps.

Thanks man!! I know I must have sounded stupid describing the yellow @ sign!! Actually the @ sign and the letter are both yellow. The envelope is open and the color is white (See attached picture). I'm just so used to using that email app on Samsungs!!
I read that the stock email app was available on the playstore, but I wasn't able to find it. I'm guessing I wasn't able to because I'm using the G3, idk!
I'm gonna follow the steps you posted about placing the files and tinkering with permissions. Looking forward to seeing it works.
Thanks again!
newer version
I have successfully installed the version above. The question is that this is the 6.2 version and my nexus 7 has 6.3 installed. I tried to copy those files to my g3 but the apk files were smaller with odex files. I just couldn't get it to run with or without the odex files . Any idea?

Hmmm... these new files have the same version numbers as in the first post. The play store shows 6.3 something as the latest version...

Interesting. Both titanium backup and "send feedback" option under the email app with the new APKs show 6.2-1227136 and not 6.3-1218562

Try these
Will anything nasty happen if I just install them as a normal app rather than a system app? I just clicked on the apk and installed like normal and it seemed to work fine, but wanted to make sure there weren't any unforeseen security issues.
Hey there. I have two ROMs to boot in my Nexus 4: one is stock KitKat, my daily driver, the other is the MIUI v5 port for Nexus 4 (4.8.10)
The problem is that I have Whatsapp installed and activated in my KitKat, and activating it in MIUI would disable the app in KK. Is there a way to keep both activated, since both will live in the same phone under the same number? I search the forum and Google and found nothing about this, just how to activate two WA accounts in the same ROM.

I'm glad to hear that my friend, just reply if you need any other help
Short question: Does this also work for subsequent communications? Will they also alwas appear within both ROMs then?
And would Titanium Backup provide the same for SMS, dialer etc.?
My last question just got active again since I installed a 2nd ROM - anyone some idea?
is this only avail on Stock roms or does this work on nightlies or custom roms, i installed the latest CM12.1 Stock and installed and noticed this, but i want it on a nightly rom b/c i like it.

I'm getting the same, I'm on official COS 12.1-YOG4PAS1N0 with Trebuchet Launcher. Google Now launcher displays the search bar just fine, I think Google changed something on the 3rd. party implementation of the Search Bar and this is why it shows like this.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately, it's not. I hope that someone will be able to port the stock app.
+1
I would also like to know how to extract the stock SMS app from Oxygen OS so I can use on CM13.
No one of us able to Port Oneplus apps. Like the Stock launcher etc. It's very difficult, even i tried to port a oneplus app but failed. So yeah i hope someone does it.
I've been unsuccessful too.
