How to disable proximity sensor. - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
Few weeks ago I was replacing LCD in my Sony Xperia Z3 (d6603), and something must went wrong, becasuse since that time, my approximity sensor is turned on all the time. When I want to call someone, screen instant is going black and I can't do anything... Now I can end call with power button, but it only works in normal calls, not in Messenger or Whatsapp :/ I tried almost everything (calibraiting, permamently turn off with apps etc.) and this sensor is still on. And here is my question:
Guys, do you know any way to turn off approximity sensor for ever? I'm looking for solution in internet for a weeks, and I can't find anything, that can help me
My phone is stock (Android 6.0.1), not rooted, but if it's really needed, I can root my Sony
Best regards
Adam

Started having the exact same issue randomly on my z3 today, luckily the Proximity sensor reset app from playstore fixed it without even root.

That app didn't work for me, but I did find that when the magnetic dock is connected, the screen remains on and speakerphone is enabled. Also works with a cheap third-party magnetic charging cable I have. Not ideal but usable if I have to get through a robo-menu for customer support.

[Q] Disable proximity sensor

Hi,
I have a problem with proximity sensor.
I looked through many threads here, but they didn't solve it to the end.
Problem:
When I am making/received call, my screen goes blank (near ear or far).
Tried using various apps (ProximityOFF, Sanity, ScreenBl), also tried adding "gsm.proximity.enable=false" to a build.prop file in system, didnt help.
At the moment I am using ScreenBl (it is always on), but it works kinda weird - it helps me keep screen awake during every SECOND call, i.e. call happens - screen off, call happens - screen on, call happens - screen off, call happens - screen on and so on.
Also, during that every second call with screen on, if i press speaker button twice, screen goes off (until call is ended).
So i wanted to ask, maybe someone found a solution of how to PERMANENTLY disable proximity sensor?
Thanks
P.S. I also cant figure out why it happens every SECOND call... maybe if you could help with that, we could find a solution?..
P.P.S. It's a Galaxy S, Darky's ROM, 2.3.3 - worked fine for many months, until couple weeks ago (dont know what changed....)
Edit: Same thing is happening without ScreenBl - still screen is on/off every second call...
hey,
similar issue with my SE xperia x10, the touchscreen broke in that corner where the sensor is so every time i make a call the screen gets locked and i have to remove the battery to end it.
the solution i found was intalling this app: Screen On from the market.
it keeps the screen on when some apps or process are running. i choose "active call".
please excuse my spelling, english is not my native language!
i hope you can solve the issue!!
rgrds,
Manuel

[Q] proximity sensor issue

Hi. I have noticed some problems with proximity sensor on my sensation. When I make phonecall my screen wont shut down at all, i have tried vipers jb and albinos and then android1234567 4.3 so I think problem is with hw, anyone what I should do?
I have the same issue with the roms u mentionned, and in my case dunno if it's HW related because with skype and viber the proximity sensor works fine!
This helped me....sensors seem to work again
Hi,
i also (and a lot of people in fact) have the dreaded proximity and lightsensor problem. And indeed there seems to be no solution... People have been reseting and reflashing the Sensation till it drove them mad, without the problem solved... The problem seem to start when the Sensation was upgraded to ICS, and seems software related...
In my quest to solve the problem I stumbled upon a solution on the htcsensationforum.... and gues what, it seems to work for me, that is, the sensors work more often now.
I quote the solution, since i cannot paste the link;
Hi Tim.
I had the same problem. Phone is now fine after 24 hrs. Here's what I changed:
1. Turned off 'Pocket Mode'. Settings -> Sound -> Pocket Mode. No obvious change by itself
2. Turned off 'Fas tboot'. Settings -> Power -> Fast boot.
3. Turned off, removed battery, waited 30 secs and powered back on.
Simple as that! The proximity sensor was glowing occassionally after the upgrade, and that has gone away too. On the bonus front my battery life has never been so good (using about 60% of what it used to)!!!
Cheers.

Don't know how long this solution will hold, but it seems that the pocket mode and / or quickboot option are causing the problems... What i use to check the sensors behavior is the free app android sensor box, found in the playstore.
Maybe one of the devs here can take a look at this solution, and can come up with a permanent solution to have the proximity and lightsensor working normal again...:good:
Just my 2 pence on an old pain in the *ss problem, thanks go to Maestro @ htcsensationforum for his solution...
Cheers:cyclops:

[Xperia Miro] Problems with the Proximity Sensor

Hello there.
I have recently had to replace my screen on my miro due to a crack, This went successfully in the fact the phone now works as before, with one minor problem. Since trying to make and receive calls my phone automatically goes to a black screen. this after many searches on the net resulted me to conclude that the sensor is blocked, as the screen digitizer was slightly different for the top left of screen too. the place where the sensors live. In can go round the problem with a set of earphones but sometime a call will cut off more using them. I downloaded the hardware disabler developed on this site but it doesn't load any drivers and then crashed, there also appears to be no other hardware disablers out there, or at least none I can find.
Basically I need some help on restoring the call function, either by fixing the proximity sensor or by getting rid of it
Any help will be welcome on this matter.
thanks

Strange mic issue

Wondering if anyone has any advice for my weird mic issue - it's a little different to the others I've seen but willing to try anything at the moment. Here's what I've found so far:
*People can't hear me when I talk into the phone. I've tried calling my home phone and listening and I don't hear anything either.
*This problem seems to happen when I'm holding the phone normally (i.e. against my face - ear to the ear speaker and mouth near bottom of the phone's mic)
*If I talk right into the bottom of the speaker (as in have the bottom mic and speaker right in front of my mouth), it picks up audio fine on the other end.
*Speakerphone appears to be fine so secondary mic is working fine.
*Done the usual clean the mic hole with pin (and compressed air), made sure my finger wasn't covering the mic hole, removed any cases, etc.
My suspicion is maybe the proximity sensor is doing something to cause the audio to cut out? I can't imagine the bottom mic being that directional that it picks up nothing in one particular direction while works fine in another.
Phone is bone stock S6 - SM G920W8 running 6.0.1 (Build G920W8VLU3CPC8)
I've already done a factory reset so this thing is as clean as it gets and still no luck. Help!
Apps could be the issue.
Do you have any apps or had any apps in the past that use the proximity sensor on your Galaxy S6? I know that I have had these problems in the past where certain apps that use the proximity sensor, such as the wave your device on and off app that I frequently use interfere with how the microphone detects how far away your face is.

Not that I recall. I did boot the device up in Safe Mode (which should stop any third party app from loading) and the problem still occurred. I also tried it again after I did a factory reset and before I loaded any apps but that didn't help either.
I don't use the gestures at all so I don't think it's that but maybe the factory reset turns it on. I'll see if I can find it to check.

Well, it looks like gestures were turned on by default. Turned them all off and then turned them on one by one and made a test call and found it's the "Smart Alert" feature that caused the mic to not work when near my face.
Thanks WSADKeysGaming for the reminder about the gestures! I completely forgot about it because I never used them.
Don't mention it!
There are so many settings nowadays that its hard to remember whats on and off, left and right. Glad I could help!

Sorry for bumping an old thread, are you familiar with why the Smart Alert feature would do this? Thanks!

Display turns on during call and camera shmoothes faces everytime

Hey I noticed two annyoing bugs.
While on a phone call and holding the phone at my right ear, the display keeps turning on and off.
No matter which settings, the camera app smoothes every recognized face and over exposers the background. If you make a front camera test in the support app, you can see that it works better there.
Has anyone the same issues? Found a few xperia users on reddit with the same issue but I'm not sure if sony will do anything until enough people complained. I already reported both bugs to the support and hope they will release an update.
I've had several calls muted/hung up because the phone decided to turn on the screen just like that yeah it's annoying...
For the camera, I've noticed smoothing but since I'm not a selfie person myself it does not bother me that much. Did you try using Open Camera, is it improved?
I noticed the same issue with the display switching on and off rapidly during a call
I have also found that during phone calls the screen comes on and I end up muting calls or putting someone on call waiting.
Its also very annoying that all selfies have the smoothing setting turned off with no apparent way to turn it off.
Hope you guys reported the issues too or Sony won't do anything.
It's really annoying and I never saw a phone with bugs like that. A simple call dosen't work as it should, functions can't be disabled ....
This is fixed in the newest update which was released today: 58.0.A.22.21
