Reboot TWRP without OS, can't get back into TWRP - Bricked? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
First of all I would like to apologize if my question is answered somewhere else already, I have searched the web for 2+ hours and cannot find anything that gives a solution to my specific problem/question.
After wiping my data/system/cashe etc. through TWRP 3.0 I rebooted ignoring the message that there was no OS installed. I knew there was no OS installed and my intention was to get back into TWRP after the reboot.
To my surprise my phone did not go into the TWRP menu on its own like it did before (previous problem was a TWRP bootloop, but that's a different story). Pressing the volume down + power button does not bring me back into the recovery modem for TWRP either.
The only screen I can reach is the download mode (by holding volume down + power + home button) where I previously used Odin to flash the Kernel and install TWRP.
I think I messed it up by rebooting without any OS, which now prevents me from getting back into TWRP. I hope there's anyone who can help me by either pointing me in the right direction or put me out of my misery by telling me I should accept my fate of having a bricked phone.
Any help or answer is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
no0bstar

Odin back to stock

What was posted above orrrrr you could try booting into download mode and hit cancel (restart) then quickly hit and hold the TWRP combo, this method works for me.
AFAIK ROMs don't touch recovery so OS or no OS you're fine I believe.

I'd say it is simply a matter of not doing the button combo properly tbh... That is the impression I get

Yeah more or less, I just noticed it gives you an extra few seconds with DL mode.

I've managed to get back into TWRP by installing the stock rom and TWRP through Odin.
Right now im installing Nougat, hopefully it was worth the few extra grey hairs...
Thanks for the help all!

Can't get my G1 into recovery mode.

Hi to all,
I been trying to upgrade to JF 1.14 rc33 and haven't been able to get to the recovery mode to process the update.zip file. Im not a noob but also not and expert i rooted my my phone so i know basics. When i try to hold the home butoon and power button the g1 logo keeps reappearing for as long as i hold it from 10 seconds to 2 minutes. any ideas of what im doing wrong, i dont care if i have to wipe i just want rc33. Thanks.
I currently have Fimware 1.0
Build #:1.0 TC-4 RC30
Custom Theme: Windows beta 7
Just to make sure, with the phone off you press and hold the home button and then press and hold (while still holding the home button) the power button. It should take ~20 seconds for the recovery mode screen to come up.

Flash back to the original G1 theme, then try the update. Your theme may be preventing you from upgrading.

Same problem
Need to bump this thread as I'm having the same issue. Have a HTC Dream with CyanogenMod-5.0.7-DS, trying to go to 5.0.8, but cannot get into Recovery Mode.
Yes, I am completely powering the phone off, holding Home just prior to pressing & holding Power. I keep both depressed for a few minutes and no joy, just sits at the G1 splash screen. I can remove the battery and press Power to bring the phone up normally. Have even dropped to the console, switched to root and issued "reboot recovery". The phone restarts and sits at the G1 splash screen as well.
Can anyone offer advice on how to restore my Recovery Mode? Many thanks...
You can try to reflash (or flash another) recovery with adb, fastboot or in terminal. Btw this thread is in wrong section. It should be in Q & A section.
You could even flash a recovery image from within your rom...you said you could boot the phone normally correct?
So drop into terminal and flash it if you don't want to mess with adb.
The Amon Ra 1.7 Recovery thread has the commands you need to flash through terminal...
These people apparently are no help. If you hold down the home key and it stays at the G1, try fastboot by holding down the camera button on the side while you power it on. You only need to hold the home key until it vibrates. It should instantly boot into fast boot, if you're holding down camera when powering on.
... if you can get into fastboot, you might need to unroot your phone and reroot it.
... if you can't get into fastboot or recovery mode, then you probably bricked your G1 and you'll need a jtag or scrap it. Or if it's under insurance, tell them you updated and your phone is stuck on the G1 screen....
You could also try taking out your battery then powering it on into fastboot/recovery but odds are that wont help at all.
Hope this was some help.

Why would you need to reroot it, just flash a new recovery through fastboot.
fastboot flash recovery <name>.img
misread, yeah he could do that too but it would be easier to reroot if he knows how to do that... instead of learning a whole new method.
You're right though, that would be better.
Update
I am able to fastboot by holding the camera button in and powering on. It sounds like I just need to do the Amon Ra Recovery procedure in order to restore my recovery partition. I assume that I'll need to re-root, but I'm sure there are instructions there for that as well.
Thanks for all the quick replies!
So here's what I found....
I had the exact same problem, but first a little history then how I fixed it.
I purchased an 8GB MicroSD card so I could use Apps2SD and was quite pleased with the ability to do so. Until my battery life dropped to 5mins. It was already down from when I bought it last year.
The battery was severely screwed on my. If I used ANYTHING for more than 5 mins, it would die and would NOT boot up. Oh I could pres the power button and it would try to boot but then die somewhere in the boot process. That is until I plugged it into some charger (car or wall) and then it would boot, showing anywhere from 70 to 90% battery life.
After much research I found that it was the battery and so ordered a replacement off eBay from Hong Kong. $3.96 shipped to my door. Works great, and I am incredibly thankful for that.
So just prior to getting the battery I had done an upgrade to 5.0.8 with the vain hopes that it might help limp along but to no avail. The battery was gone.
Ok, so in comes the new battery. Great! I'll just reflash the ROM to make sure there are no lingering issues and we'll be good to go! Little did I realize that I did an 'upgrade' from CM Updater and when I booted into Recovery I flashed th zip file that was there....which was 5.0.7. DOH! No biggie, everything was working so I didn't worry too much.
Then I installed Clockwork's ROM Manager 1.8.x. A few days later there was an update, so I updated to 2.0.1.3. So I updated that. It went fine.
Few days later, and a few more apps re-installed, the system was running slow.
Apps2SD was greyed out. Huh?
Checked the card....Ubuntu was only mounting it Read Only. And the old swap partition, which I thought I had deleted, was still there. Dammt. But this s a side story I think.
So I wanted to reflash but there was no way I could do it because I could not get into Recovery mode. Ugh.
ROM manager had an update to 2.0.1.4. Ok, maybe that'll work. Nope. It said it updated fine but stuck at G1 logo like many others.
Doing some googling around I saw that it was a ROM Manager issue and that you should flash back down to 1.4.x. Well, since I knew it was working at 1.8.x I decided to reflash to 2.0.0.3. I could get into recovery mode now!
While this kinda solves one issue....I'll have to go into another thread to figure out the Read Only problem so I can re-partition my card again.
Thread closed. Please post questions in the Questions and Answers forums and not in the development forum.

[Q] Can't go to bootloader, always goes to ClockworkMod recovery

Hey people my first post so you can call me whatever you want
Here is the thing:
I rooted the phone, installed a custom ROM and such, on the process I guess I installed this Clockwork Mod Recovery v5.8.3.1.
Well I wanted to change the ROM so I downloaded the new one (lastest trickdroid) and follow the steps, BUT!, when trying to acces the fastboot thing on that menu that can't remeber the name of, I jsut can't get into it.
When I tart the phone pressing volume down + power, instead of going to that menu it goes to clockwork mod. I was suposed to "Flash the stock boot.img from the ROM with fastboot", but well I dont know what I did or wahtever, I can't aces that menu.
What should I do?

I am having what seems like the same issue with my phone. Just posted a thread not too long ago asking for help. One person (a SR. Member) informed me to try to restore using a NANDROID backup (which I dont have). Going off of his advice, if you have the backup, try that. If not, we both seem to have the same problem. Good luck with your issue, I will be checking both our threads for solutions from now on!

Extra Help (Maybe)
Hey again, I found some useful information that allowed me to get into my bootloader! If you are still stuck in CWM, use the volume down button to go down to the "advanced" button at the bottom of the list. Since this is a button that leads to another list and not a direct action, you can hold down the power button when highlighted over it and turn the phone off. From there, just hold Volume Down and Power as you would normally do to boot into the bootloader. Hope this helps since it worked for me!
So:
-Navigate to "advanced" (Just highlight over it)
-Hold power button for 10-15 seconds
-Phone should power off
-Volume Down + Power to boot into Bootloader
-Profit?? (Just Kidding )
Again, hope I could be of some assistance!

Have a look at fragkiller1 thread for fixing your issue.
well now I can't even get into CWM sigh
A brief flash of a screen appears now while booting it, but it just skips to the actual OS. I have the fast boot disabled ohh man what do now? DId I mess up something?

edit: sigh now I have another problem, after using fastboot usb with the Boot_Flash_Script from trickdroid, the phone is stuck at the the screen that says"this build is for development pourpuses only..." and it won't go further
edit2: I think I falshed a ROM for VilleC2 when I have a Ville, is there a way to fix this? the phone now is stuck at loading the screen with red words

Ya, make sure you got the right rom and get yourself back into the bootloader and you should see recovery there then do a full wipe and flash the rom and also if you feel you might of flashed the wrong boot.img reflash it to make sure.
So it's over, all solved.
I tried to install a new ROM but CWM got me an error mounting the SD, then I installed another recovery (TWR) and installed the new ROM (viper one s) flashed the boot.img and now everthing works wonders, for now.
Thanks a lot Darknites for trying to help me I really appreaciate that

Np dude glad you got it sorted but ya TWRP is way better for the sd mount and if you have 1.09 or lower Hboot it can also flash boot.img.

cannot boot or get into recovery

So this is the first time i've borked one of my phones. I have a verizon GS3, i had TKrom b4.0 installed, decided i didn't like it and went to restore my previous backup. It didn't do something right cuz it still had the custom splash screen from TKrom, and it wouldn't go past that. I then clean flashed the newest carbon nightly 10-9-2013 and it said my phone appeared to not be rooted, so i swiped to install su (probably my error) Anyway now it won't boot up or go into recovery (TWRP). Any help would be greatly appreciated, i know this site is filled with knowledgeable induviduals so i don't doubt someone will have the answer. Thanks so much..
Well if you can't get into recovery then your only option at this point is Odin. You can get into download mode right (Power + home + Vol down)
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
Yeah i can get into Odin, but i'm not sure what to do after that.

by holding down volume up+home button+power at the same time. But i ended up doing odin back to stock and redoing root/recovery, luckily i wasn't hard bricked(phew)... Anyways thanks for the help guys
On my son's S3, I couldn't get into recovery one day using that. What ended up working was holding down those (3) buttons and when it vibrates, release the power button but keep the others held down until the splash screen for the recovery tool shows.

Can't access stock recovery on 4.4.2?

Not sure if anyone else has tried but today's ioroot 25 update includes root for those on 4.4.2. I tried using the manual method indicated only to realize that I can't reboot into the stock recovery. Apparently two other people with the D801 have the same problem, where after doing "adb reboot recovery" the phone boots into recovery for an instant and immediately reboots. Can anyone else running stock 4.4.2 confirm whether they experience the same behavior?

That sucks. By any chance did you happen to have a copy of the stock ROM on your phone? I'm wondering if it just automatically flashes whatever file is made available to it. I did notice some of my widgets were reset but otherwise I can't see that anything about my phone was changed.

No, sure didn't. I have it all setup again.. Going to hold off now until we see a for sure fix.
I really miss having root so I decided to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
But now for what ever reason attempting to back to 4.2.2 will not work. Fails every time... I didn't have that issue before so I am not sure what the deal is.

TMO D801 users on KK... there is SOME hope still. I am on ZVA on my Sprint G2(4.2.2) which has no "adb reboot recovery" option... it does tne same thing thats happening to you guys.. quick "system update" msg (or something along those lines) and then reboots phone.
now.. on sprint g2.. vol up + power brings you to the hard reset menu. BUT.. vol down + power brings me to the full STOCK recovery menu.
Now I know your method to get into the hard reboot screen is different.. i believe its vol down + power.. let go at lg screen the press again? well has anyone tried any alternate combos? there may be another button combo to bring you into the full stock recovery menu instead of the hard reset menu. once at the full recovery menu you can use adb sideload to flash to kk_root.zip in ioroot25.
good luck

It seems that ours is not the only model G2 with this issue. Looks like if we can figure out the button combo to bring us into stock recovery we should be able to get this to work. Having spent the greater part of the last hour trying to come up with something, I still haven't found anything. What I do know is pressing vol down + power until the LG logo and either vol down + power OR vol up + power will take me to the hard reset menu.
I also managed to get to a menu that asked if I want to answer phone calls with physical buttons by holding down all three, releasing and holding them again. But for some reason I wasn't able to replicate this. Now when I continue holding down all three buttons at the LG logo, after getting there using any button combo, the phone just shuts off.
Has anyone successfully entered the D801 stock recovery using button combos? I have yet to find any method other G2 users discussed that works for me.

[Q] Can't Boot into Recovery

I got this phone used. (Droid Razr HD) Not sure of its history. As far as I know it was all stock until today.
When I found out I could root and unlock the bootloader I did so. Then I wanted to go into recovery and make a backup (yea I know...did that backwards) I powered the device off...hit the volume rocker switch and the power button at the same time and it entered into the Boot Mode selection menu. I hit the volume down to move to the recovery option and then hit the volume up button to select recovery.
At this point the big red M & Dual Core Technology logo appears. Stays there for 1.5 minutes then disappears briefly, comes back on for 15 seconds and then boots the phone normally.
So....I downloaded and installed Rom Manager and had it flash the latest CMW Recovery, turned the phone off to access the newly flashed recovery and the phone again went to the big red M & Dual Core Technology logo set there for 1.5 minutes, disappeared briefly and then booted the phone normally.
So.....I downloaded the lasted CMW Recovery image and used ADB and Fastboot to flash the recovery. Same result. Cannot access the recovery.
So....I downloaded a Stock recovery image and used ADB and Fastboot to flash the stock recover. Same result....cannot access the recovery.
Can someone tell me what I am missing or what I am doing wrong? Or what I can do access recovery.? A rooted phone with an unlocked bootloader isn't much good if you can't access recovery.
Thanks for reading and for any advice you might be able to give.
Jeff
I believe when in the boot loader menu, you need to Volume down to your choice, then Volume up to select the highlighter choice. Pressing power just resets the phone as you experienced.

If you haven't tried it already, since you seem to have ADB setup and working, try to use "adb reboot recovery" and see if you have change in luck. If not, my knowledge does not go much further, I hope someone knows how to answer this for you. I can imagine how distraught I'd be.
The only other thing is to ensure you've installed the correct recovery:
Google Dhacker29 and choose the AndroidHosting site, choose msm8960.
(I can't post url's because i've had less than 10 posts... spam thing)
Since you seem to have unlocked bootloader with the most recent case of KitKat make sure you have the "TWRP2710-RAZR-HD_M-KITKAT.img" file.
I will say I didn't use ADB to push mine, I'm not home often, I used Flashify from the Google Play Store. I had no problem with this method.
Hope you can figure it out! Good luck!
