[Completed] Old Galaxy S4 on new carrier. How do I update to Marshmallow or other? - XDA Assist

Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337
Baseband version: I337UCUGOK2
Kernel version: 3.4.0-6185444
[email protected] #1
Build number: LRX22C.I337UCUGOK2
I am going to be using an old S4 from At&t until I save up for something better.
It has been recovered to its original state and It will not let me do a software update past 5.0.1 because At&t has never pushed it out.
The phone is also now being used with Cricket wireless.
I would like to be able to just use the most recent stock update from Samsung and get rid of any trace of AT&T from this phone if I can but I don't know for a fact if Samsung ever updated the S4.
If that's not an option, then where do I start learning about custom ROMs, and how to know what's supported etc.?
I don't care about voiding ANYTHING in this endeavor.
I'm an old G33K but rooting, and custom ROMs are new to me. I have spent countless hours on YouTube but it's filled with so much useless info as I'm sure you all know.
Thank you so much for your time in reading this & any reply.

Greetings and welcome to assist. I don't think samsung updated the s4 past 5.0, you could just root your phone to remove any at&t apps. There is a very simple guide here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/how-to-installed-custom-lollipop-rom-t3135396
on how to install a custom rom on your device
Good Luck

[Completed] AIO/Cricket Galaxy S4 I337z, need help to figure out if I can flash my phone

I recently bought a Samsung Multi Media dock that I finally got to work reliably. I'm not impressed with the experience so I want to flash my phone over to a custom rom so I can tweak settings (and recover from it if I screw it up). I used to have a custom rom on my last phone but since I had to replace it when Cricket nuked their CDMA network I'm stuck with a stock Samsung Galaxy S4, with touchwiz- I hate touchwiz.
My brother kind of held my hand when my phone was first flashed over to CyanogenMod, a more accurate description was that he sabotaged it giving me little reason not to flash a custom image, so I'm still a bit new at this. I've gone threw the forums with the intent of reading up on weather I can and how I should go about flashing my phone. Problem is that I can't find anything that directly relates to the version of the firmware I have and I don't know if its compatible with any of the methods on the table.
I'm rightfully terrified of bricking my phone. I at least want some encouragement of reading about people with a success rate with an identical device before I go off and potentially brick my phone, if I do brick my phone I want it to be completely my fault because I plan on reading every guide and forum thread twice just to make sure I don't miss a nuance of the process.
Anyway,
i have a Galaxy S4, SGH-I337Z
Build #: KOT49H.i337zTUUBOA1
Android Ver- 4.4.2
security software ver: mdf v1.0 Rel 2
any combination of that information just points me to similar threads with no 100% (or even 50%) identical information. I've got three threads open in tabs rite now that say things about MD3 or MK2 firmware and I have no idea if I have those or not.
Anyway I'm hoping someone can find the info I'm to blind to find myself.
Thanks in advance!
Ryo

So I'm rooted with a USCC Galaxy S6... ROM Compatibility?

1. TWRP is up
2. Stock 5.1.1 with baseband G920R4TYU2BOF7/HW version G9020R4.02
3. Kernel name: 3.10.61-V-Kernel+
4. No Mods
5. Rooted
Last time, I did any rooting and flashing was the original Galaxy S Mesmerize for USCC... Been using that trusty phone up until 2 days ago. I finally broke down and upgraded after 5+ years! So I'm a bit rusty on this kind of stuff.
I know when I was flashing with the Mez, I had to make sure that I used carrier-specific ROMs since there were subtleties in hardware and so on. I was wondering which of the Custom ROMs in the pinned thread in the general section of this forum were compatible with a US Cellular Galaxy S6 with the specs I listed. Here is the link to the thread I'm speaking of. Also, any hints, clues, thing to look for etc etc in determining if a ROM is compatible would be awesome.

Once again, thank you guys for all that you do.
Edit: Somewhat off-topic... OTA update keeps wanting to come through. Will OTA update undo root?

VZW S4 SCH-I545 4.3 Bootloader

Hi,
New to the forums so hopefully this is the right forum to ask such a question. After scouring the net for awhile, I've come across that the bootloader for vzw I545 4.3 can not be unlocked. However, the post was a few years ago. Is this the case? If not, could someone point me in the right direction of getting it unlocked? Fairly new to the whole rom scene, only installed a couple so far. Those were on a S3, and I have only rooted this phone, no OTA updates, just the version it came with from the shop I got it from.
Phone Spec's:
VZW S4-SCH I545
Android Vers. 4.3
SE for Android Enforcing
Kernel 3.4.0
Baseband 1545VRUEMK2
Phone is rooted.
If you all need more information let me know.
Thanks,
Lopkey

Can someone suggest a ROM that will definitely be compatible with my G920F?

I'm somewhat of a noob when it comes custom ROMs. I was an avid flasher when I had my S2 but things seemed to be a bit more straightforward then. I've been waiting for the MM update for what seems like forever and simply can't wait any longer so I rooted my S6 with the intention of just flashing a MM ROM. But I'm struggling to find a ROM that I can say for certain is compatible.
I'm not asking for the best ROM, I just want one that won't screw anything up. Thanks in advance. Device details below.
S6 G920F. Rooted with Unikernel v8-0002. TWRP 3.0.2-0.
Baseband: XXU3COI9
Build #: XXU3QOJL

Question About Galaxy J3 Eclipse (SM-J327VZKA, Verizon)

Has anyone been able to get a working root / ROM for the J3 Eclipse on Verizon yet? It would be so nice to be able to remove all this bloatware Samsung UI and apps since the phone isn't all that fast in the first place. It has been years since I rooted any phone so maybe I am just overlooking something, been searching but no luck so far.
From what I can tell, your J3 is identical to ours on Sprint, Boost and Virgin Mobile. Our TWRP may be compatible with your device. @ashyx would know better than I. Hardware wise they appear to be the same. Now software is another matter. Your partitions may be different than ours so I do not advise a flash of our recovery. But it is worth asking those that know more about it. Will depend on whether your bootloader is locked also.
