Cannot unlock bootloader - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I'm hoping someone can help or at least point me in the right direction if i've missed a thread, i'm on Windows 7 64bit.
I appear to be stuck in a boot loop on my original Shield Tablet, stuck on nvidia screen when i try to go into recovery mode i get the "dead android" picture.
I have tried to unlock the bootloader and i get FAILED <remote: <>, device shows up under fastboot devices command, device shows up as Android Bootloader Interface in Device Manager.
I've searched the forums and seen this problem but everyone else seems to be able to unlock easily, this is the same but no replies https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/help/nvidia-shield-unlock-bootloader-failed-t3178865.
Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check the recovery images section for your device here: https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source
Instructions to unlock the bootloader:
Unlocking the Bootloader
Your SHIELD TABLET may have shipped with a locked bootloader. To update the device,
you must unlock the bootloader using the following:
- fastboot oem unlock
- Press the "Volume Down" button to select "Unlock bootloader" option on device
- Press the "Power" button to confirm the unlock. Your device's bootloader is now unlocked.
Click to collapse
You need to already have adb set up and the Shield connected to the PC to do this. If you don't have USB debugging enabled, this may not be possible, but you should still be able to get into recovery by booting the tablet with Vol- and power button (hold volume - and then just press the power button, don't hold both at the same time).

Yes I've tried that (I know the steps of unlocking the bootloader) that's when i get the FAILED error. When I try to enter recovery I get the "dead" Android picture.

[Q] bootloader unlock issue

Hello there,
I followed the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710755. But, at the last step, after I typed in the code, the tablet tried to restart and stopped with two lines at the upper left corner: "Bootloader version JB-653b3d3 (unlock mode)" and "Bootloader VJB-653b3d3 (unlocked mode): starting fastboot use download protocol". Then it just freezed here with a big ACER in the middle of hte screen. I had to turn it off to reboot it. However, even it says the bootloader is unlocked, the combination power+volume down didnot work. It doesn't go to the bootloader mode. So has anyone got this issue before? Is there anything I did wrong? Thanks.

Power+Volume down is only part of it. It sounds like you want to get to recovery... correct. If so:
Press and hold volume down and press power until the tab vibrates.
continue to hold volume down and release power until the tab vibrates again.
move to volume up and hold until the tab vibrates a third time and release all.
You are in recovery.
Stock recovery is extremely limited.
You would be better served with a CWM recovery to flash ROMs.
This is done on the computer.
If you are looking to return to fastboot mode to flash a recovery, this is also done on the computer.
"ADB reboot bootloader"
wait for the tab to reboot
fastboot flash recovery C:\path\*recovery*.img

Can't unlock bootloader

Hi there,
I think i bought a fake Samsung Galaxy S6. But it works well, and it looks identical and has most of the futures of the real Galaxy s6.
As a fake Samsung phone, it doesn't have any Odin Download mode in it. So i tried to get into the bootloader via adb "adb reboot bootloader".
When i get there, i try to unlock the bootloader "fastboot oem unlock".
On the screen of the Phone i get a message about the fact im trying to unlock the bootloader etc. Press volume up to Unlock, Press Volume down to cancel.
The problem is, I can't press Volume Up for some reason, only Volume down. So i can't unlock the Bootloader to install custom recovery via ADB and finally install custom ROM.
Anyone any help? I can only access Stock recovery menu, some chinese test menu and the bootloader. Thats it.
Any help would be appreciated, i can provide any info you will possibly need.
grtz, Alex

Bricked Moto E 2015 (XT1527) - Won't boot

Hello, I came to this forums looking to get some help with a device that a friend gave me to fix. He tried to install some sort of custom ROM on his phone (Moto E XT1527), and after installing it, Im not totally sure what did he touch, but now the phone only boots up to a screen saying the following:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)
BL: 80.0B (sha-2c9fcbc 2015-03-13 20:15:21)
Baseband: Not Available
Product/Variant: surnia XT1527 8GB P3

Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 2

(There could be some sort of typo on it)
So far I have tried with a tool that suposedly would flash a ROM into the phone without typing any commands, but it failed at some point.
As for unlocking the bootloader, I was abble to obtain the code, yet when I try to unlock it via fastboot, it says that I need the permission to "Allow OEM Unlock", wich I can't grant because of the SO not booting.
Regarding to what my friend did with it, he's not sure, but he think he deleted some sort of file
Im not an expert on this kind of stuff, yet I can follow steps that are given to me to provide any info or to execute a fix, so I would appreciate any kind of help from you to diagnose and solve this problem
Thanks in advance
A little bump

it can be simply solved ....if you are able to boot to fast boot mode
HOW TO BOOT INTO FAST BOOT
First of all, you have to power off your Moto E.
In order to do so, press power button once and then select “power off” or keep pressing the power button for about 15 seconds.
Wait a few seconds until applying the next step.
After powering off your phone, press power button and volume down key at the same time.
Keep pressing these buttons for about 6, or 7 seconds.
Release the keys when the fastboot / bootloader mode is being displayed.
In fastboot use volume up and volume down keys in order to scroll up and down within bootloader menu and press power button in order to select your option.
if it enters fast boot mod unlock boot loaders ....when it says grant permission using volume up or down button
then flash a custom recovery ...make a factory data reset after you flash custom recovery .....
after all above steps flash any custom rom this will fix all your issues ... you can also try to flash stock rom images via fast boot

Hello and thanks for your answer. I have managed to get into fastboot mode, yet I still can't unlock the bootloader. It stills asks me to grant OEM permissions. Is there any way to grant it without booting into the SO?

Sideloaded Android 12 DevPrev3 on Pixel 3A, bricked phone

Yesterday I sideloaded the Android 12 Dev Preview 3 on my Google Pixel 3A. Enabled Developer options (did NOT! enable OEM unlocking, this wan't an instruction) and ADB. Sideloaded the file via Recovery.
Sideloading went fine, Stage 1 > Stage 2. Finished succesfull. Reboot device > Nothing.
'Can't find valid operating system. The device will not start.' Visit g.co/abh etc. (not very helpfull).
I can get in to fastboot. Devices state = Locked (ADB instructions didn't tell me to select this in developer options).
Can't boot into recovery, resque mode is also broken. Cannot use flash.android.com or pixelrepair.withgoogle.com. In my Country (Netherlands) the Phone isn't for sale officialy (only via grey import). My phone is from Germany. Can't get any Support from google or RMA it.
Any commands for flashing via fastboot are not allowed since flashing is not unlocked (it's stated above but i'll mention it again).
Softbricked and can't do anything. This is very sad.
Any tips?
Reading my own notes I would try to unlock the bootloader
- Hold power to reboot
- Press power to pause
- Hold volume-up + power to enter bootloader mode
If you can enter fastboot mode, try unlocking
fastboot devices
Should list a device...
fastboot flashing unlock
You will then have to use the phone to select yes to the unlock. you use the volume keys to select and the power button to confirm.

Ofc. thats what I tried first thing. Problem is there is no OS to boot into and to enable OEM unlock. That's also the reason pixel repair tool and flash.android.com do not work. Currently in contact with Google Netherlands to arrange an RMA. (The pixel phones aren't available in the Store here, so it's kind off a pain in the ass).

Samsung Xcover6 unlock bootloader (SM-G736B) before rooting

Wanting to root the device via magisk, I tried first to unlock the bootloader of my phone but apparently failed.
I started by activating the developer mode, set oem unlocking developer option in the settings then tried adb reboot bootloader : no success, the phone simply rebooted. A fastboot oem unlock just hung out waiting for a device.
I can go into download mode or recovery mode if that may help...
Any idea how to unlock this bootloader ? How can i check it is effectively unlocked ?
Thanks in advance for any help
It's well known that SAMSUNG mobiles don't have the Fastboot feature: there it's the Download mode.
FYI:
Power off your device. Press Volume Up + Volume Down and plug in your device to a PC to boot into download mode
When you enter download mode, Long press Volume Up button to unlock the bootloader.
ok well, let's forget about fastboot command then.
I'll answer myself on the original question, to unlock the bootloader:
switch off the phone
press volume up and volume down key
plugin a usb cable
choose "device unlock" with a long press volume up
after released the key up, choose "unlock" with volume up again
Now I'm looking to enter the download mode which I can't reach anymore. Any idea xXx yYy ?
Answer myself again
Apply the 3 first steps of my previous answer, you'll be in the same unlock screen as before but the first option will be "Continue". Choose it with volume up and you will end up in download mode !
Now I'll try rooting with magisk...
Rooting with magisk 25.2 done by a classical patching of AP from november release: AP_G736BXXU1BVK2_G736BXXU1BVK2_MQB58744363_REV00
It appears that this is the only thread on the entire forum for this phone?
Having just bought one for the removable battery and the dual SIM, I discovered that samsung in their infinite wisdom disabled the multiple users feature in their oneUI ROM, which really sucks because that was part of the reason I wanted the phone, to segregate certain apps into their own user account.
This all made me realize Root + custom ROM is probably the only way I will ever get that basic functionality returned.
So here I see that rooting is doable, but there appears to be zero results for un-samsung'd ROMs.
Which market is G736B? I was looking at ordering but I am in the US and the Samsung site is giving me the SM-G736UZKEXAA. Would the classical patching work on that?
The G736B model is sparsely distributed in EU, Asia, Africa and Oceania (see here). Your G736W US model is also based on Snapdragon 778G, it is probably the same phone with a few subtleties concerning 5G support (if any, can't find out) and software bloatware. I'd be surprised the above patching doesn't work but ... it's only a guess !
