So it looks like my eMMC got fried after failing to write to all of the partitions from fastboot. Now, since my country doesn't have a whole lot of shops that are willing to replace a single SMD chip from the board I was left with going through laptop shops and finally found one that was willing to replace the chip. The only catch is that I'm left with sourcing the chip. On that note, I was left a bit of confused about the eMMC chips, specially after that 64GB mod.
Now, I have a 16GB Nexus 5 and from looking at the ifixit site, I can see that it is using a SandDisk SDIN8DE4-16G chip. Normally, for the repair, I would buy the exact same chip, but after seeing that I can "upgrade" I was thinking about getting the 32GB version of the chip i.e. SDIN8DE4-32G since the price is similar. Is that the chip from the 32GB Nexus version? Also, I didn't want to go the route of the 64GB since I didn't ivestigate as much into the compatabilaty of other ROMs with that chip.
So my questions are the following:
Should I go ahead and buy the SDIN8DE4-32G chip? Is the upgrade process that simple?
The second question is: Can I put in any eMMC chip in there and not just the SDIN8DE4-32G chip i.e. a faster eMMC 5 chip and how would the process differ (if at all)?
Any and all input is welcome, specially from the people that have some experience with SMD HW repair.
EDIT 1: Ok, after some research, I see that the 32GB version of Nexus does in fact use the SDIN8DE4-32G chip.
Depending on what they are charging you, you might be better off just replacing the whole motherboard with a brand new one from eBay for like $80US
Sorry I can't help with sourcing the actual chip.

Yeah, I agree that that would be the easiest route, but it's the most expencive one. The 32GB Nexus 5 chip can be found for around 15$ (inc. shipping) and the shop would charge me another 25$ for the soldering so it would still be at like a half the price of a new board, and any repair above 50$ just doesn't make sence since I can find a used Nexus 5 16GB for 100$ and sell this one for parts for around 50$.

Sadly not the way I've hoped. I sold it off for parts for 30e and got a used one for 70e.
All in all a good deal, but still on the 16GB version and looking to upgrade to a new phone since there are some limitations of the 32 bit CPU architecture.
Was looking at the Motorola X4, but it doesn't support project Treble out of the box, so I think I'll wait a bit more until Android 8.0 phones come to market.

Hi guys,
So i am one of the unlucky (stupid?) that flashed the wrong twrp and am now paying the price. I'm looking to get a new motherboard for my tablet and am happy to replace it. Question is. I can't remember for the life of me if I have a 16gb or a 32 gb tablet. I can't turn it on to check. any way to know from the serial number or from the old motherboard if I remove it? I am looking to buy one online and found one on ebay for a reasonable price. Anyone have any other suggestions for where to find a used/new motherboard? I don't really want to give Asus any more money. Thanks!
doesn't matter which one your had, just buy the 32GB one on eBay.
ASUS 32 GB Motherboard - eBay Link - $99.95
Ok, ive given up hope of un bricking my tf300, and probably will never buy another asus product after this. My question is, should i replace the motherboard in mine, or put my screen and digitizer in another tab that i can buy for about the same price as a motherboard? Which would be the easier swap, and can someone like me without any special skills even accomplish this kind of thing? Oh yea thank u all for ur help in the past!!
Either is an easy fix, but I stole the digi/lcd combo and the TS board from my TWRP bricked 16GB to replace the cracked digi on a recently acquired 32GB model. I should be able to recoup some more from the non-logic board parts remaining, enough to more than make sense over buying a logic board alone. The battery, TS board, and good LCD alone might take care of it. If not, then maybe including all the little parts and cables inside will. Even if it is more effort to post and sell all that stuff, it should add up to more than selling a parts tablet with a broken digi and bricked logic board.
But then, I've had many tablets apart, and I'm decent at repairing them. Someone who has never had one apart might find either path daunting.
If doing the repairs yourself isn't a good option, you could always take the tablets to a cell phone repair shop, assuming there's one near you. Replacing the screen on a tablet is similar enough to a smartphone that they shouldn't have any problems. There's also a chance that they fix tablets anyway since they're kind of like big smartphones in the way they're assembled. And since you have your own parts, the repairs shouldn't be too expensive.

Hi,
Does anybody know if there is any reason why I can't take a 16gb and 32gb versions of Nexus 5 and swap the guts over?
I want to keep the digitizer LCD from the 16gb version and put all of the other 32gb version components in the 16gb body.
Is there just one board that has the Flash RAM on it? If so, I guess I could just swap that board over, maybe?
Thanks.
I would guess that the two devices are 100% identical apart from the memory. Rather than trying to swap pieces, why not slap the digitiser on the 32GB body?
This is a video that I watched when I first bought a Nexus 5 - you might find it interesting and helpful:

Just swap the top main boards and you will be good to go.
10 min job.
Thanks for your responses peeps. Very helpful.
Hi guys, I am sorry because this is probably 1828318th time someone asks this.
I have samsung galaxy s6, I love it. I could get this phone for 120-150 euros, is it worth ? It probably wouldn't be my primary phone, something to have in reserve but I would also use it, one of the reasons I would like to try it because on my sgs6 is first time I flashed rom, so I would also like to experiment with it.
Thank you
It's a great phone, hardware-wise it's perfect. Great chipset (cpu, gpu), 2gb of ram is enough, go for the 32gb version since it doesn't take a sd card. The camera is very good, the screen even better, and it's a nexus, so you have many people working on it. It's cheap and you can find replacement parts cheap and easily on eBay (screen, battery etc.).
If you're planning on buying from eBay (specifically those from honk kong) be careful, I bought 3 of them (1st motherboard broke on its own, didn't have backlight, 2nd came with a literally broken motherboard) because they were all broken or faulty. Suspicious things I found when I removed the back covers. The 3rd was finally good.
I bought 2 of them for 180 dollars [emoji14]

Hi,
I have an MTCD unit with PX3 1GB SoM (see attached picture)
I would like to do some upgrade and get some more RAM for it, or buy a complete coreboard with PX5 and 2GB RAM
There is a seller on aliexpress that sells a coreboard but i on mine i written MTC_RK3188_REV0.3 and on the coreboard that is available from the seller it is written: HCT-PX5-REV8.0(LPDDR) see attached pictures.
Can someone tell me if i can swap mine with the one from the seller? I really need the 2GB RAM upgrade but i cannot find the right chips to replace mine so i decided to go ahead and buy the whole board (SoM)
Thanks,
Yes you can swap.
But instead of 2GB buy a 4GB coreboard:

I bought this in amazon.

The price is higher but if it doesn't works, Amazon will refund.
Last year I bought one px5/2gb from AliExpress, and works for 2 hours. The vendor say that it was made only for whitson head units and I loose 90$... Be careful.

That`s why i am asking and not rushing to spend 90-100USD for something i am not sure it will work with my unit!
I actually don`t see why the boards that are for sale with the PX5 and 2-4GB would not work if swapped with mine but prefer to get some users opinion from those who actually did the swap already.
Not all the links at aliexpress say that your HU needs to be WITSON in order for the swap to work, even though they look the same.
I really need the 2GB upgrade, but it seems impossible to me to find the compatible chips to swap mine with the 2GB upgraded ones.
The ones i find made by the same company have a difference in two of the letters in the marking which i am not sue could be ignored, maybe it could be ignored....i don`t know for now.
H5TC8G63AMR H5TQ4G63AFR
The F and M difference is what bothers me the most since F is FBGA SDP (Single Die Package) and M is FBGA DDP 2CS (Dual Die Package)
I see on the net upgraded memory with different brand chips, but the threads are very old and they were making a group order back then for those chips, so it`s a no go.....

I am in the same position as you. I have a 1GB board and want to upgrade. Did you buy the Witson board? Did the swap work for you?

No, the more i think of it, the more i think it`s better to buy a new unit with 2 or even 4GB of RAM and way better CPU. The price for just the board is around $100, and just to gain 1GB of RAM.......not worth the money!
I would do a chip swap if i had the chips, but it seems that they are hard to find to as a spare part.
