Well, I'm guessing from here:
https://wiki.pwnieexpress.com/index.php/Device_hammerhead
Got the link from here:
https://www.pwnieexpress.com/build-...c=214639368.1.1487445834135&__hsfp=3521502699
Since you didn't find it by yourself, and the link is a bit hidden, here it is:

Flash the apropriate bootloader. The HHZ12h bootloader is found in the stock LMY48B build. Get it here: https://developers.google.com/android/images
Flash it with the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img

Thanks for the response I will try that before doing that I already wiped out my os in order to install that rom and i haven't created any backup ...so it is safe to do without os or i have to install any os first. Previously i was having marshmallow 6.0.1 if i want to flash it again than how.... thanks again

Yeah, I didn't cover that in my explanation, sorry. After flashing the new bootloader, DO NOT try to boot a ROM that the bootloader is not designed to handle. Since this is a Lollipop bootloader, Marshmellow shouldn't work and you shouldn't try to boot it.
The steps needed to install the ROM would be the following:
Wipe everything
Flash the bootloader
Install the new (pwn) ROM
So, if you want to go back to Marshmallow at any time, make sure that you have the latest bootloader which can be found in the latest build of the stock ROM for the Hammerhead going to the link in my previous reply and simply repeat the steps above.
Hope that helped you.

TTTTThankss a lot. i successfully installed pwn legacy edition one thing I have a doubt do u have any idea whats the difference between aopp and legacy product download on pwn site?
previously it was showing some errors while installing both aopp experimental(as stated above) and legacy product for N5 but after downgrading bootloader it was successfully installed I havent tried that aopp experimental but if neccessary i will in future.
Just for knowledge how did you figure out that which bootloader is found in which stock?
thanks once again for your help

No problem, glad I helped!
Well, only looking at the dates, I can see that the experimental product line is 5 days newer than the archive one. As for the specific differences, I really don't know since I've never used or followed this ROMs developement. If you are curious, you can always have a look at their Github repo and see what changes they made in that period.
As for finding the bootloader, I had a very short bootloader hunt myself the other day and found the easiest way to find the needed build is to use Google. In your specific case, just type in the search bar something like "nexus 5 HHZ12hr", and the first thing that pops out is the build number that I gave you.

Stable image release
There should be no need to find a difference between the stable and unstable image. The stable would be released as an update, so it depends on what you'd prefer to do. Have the latest AOPP OS at the cost of needing to flash it on a Debian based Linux environment, or stick with a different ordeal and just flash using adb and TWRP but need to update your phone right away
The stable image is available here:
android(dot)pwnieexpress(dot)com/legacy/hammerhead/
Unstable has been provided in links from others, good luck

Hello there, I was too waiting for the updates of this ROM. I crosschecked their website what i found new was they have switched fully to software side for building more ROM that can be compatible to other devices. I sent them mail earlier and they replied that "We have no intention of performing any further development of the mobile line, other than what has already been made available on the Wiki page at wiki.pwnieexpress.com".

Hi, as someone who jumped over to Windows phone some while ago, I am now looking toward Android based again, mainly due to the fact I don't like the way windows is heading.
I have my eye on the Wileyfox swift http://wileyfox.com/ at the moment, it looks good bang for bucks and I like the fact it's UK manufactured.
I'm a little unsure when it's released as I have read some articles saying it's released today and others saying toward the end of September, I can't find it on Amazon or Ebay and the Wileyfox website although gives good information on the phones they are some what lacking in purchasing info, which I find a shame.
My other concern is there is no contact information on the website of the manufacturer, which always makes me a little uncomfortable.
Any thoughts on this phone?
Phone sites almost always wont have pricing details, because of the diff country models, and diff prices in diff places
Thank me if i helped ... ?

I went for OPO 64gb in the end. My concerns around the Wileyfox were there was no contact information on the web site, no info on release date although I did receive an email saying it had been delayed until 30 Sept, but looking at the site it's still not released, so lost some faith in them. Something didn't seem right about ordering from a company where there was no contact info for or even details on release.
Anyway, I feel I made the right decision with the OPO and am well impressed, good service from ordering direct and received quite a few extra's that I wasn't expecting ie case, screen protectors.

I just bought a Wileyfox Swift through Amazon pre-order. It came as promised and is a sweet device. It is a shame that the Wileyfox home page has no contact details. I wanted to find out how to root the device. As it's Cyanogen, I thought it would have come pre-rooted but it's not.
Also, because of delivery delays, Wileyfox offered me a year's screen replacement cover free. To avail of their kind offer I have to enter the device IMEI on Wileyfox home page but.....there's no option there....yet.
Amazon,as usual, got everything right but Wileyfox seem tardy. Maybe they'll catch up soon.
The Swift is a nice device but I want to root it. Does anyone have any information about that?
I have made a big mistake. Try to flash a new official rom somebody posted in needrom, and I got hardbrick (qhsusb_buld detect when i connect). I am asking for any kind of advice. I have found some different methods to repair it with qualcomm tools but i dont have the required files.

rooting the wileyfox swift
Hi all,
found out how to root this device!
Here the steps:
1) download supersu zip from here
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
2) save it to your external sdcard
3) follow the steps on this site until recovery is started.
Do NOT flash the Cyanogenmod, only the recovery!!!
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_crackling
4) reboot directly into recovery. Normal system boot reinstalls stock recovery.
5) install supersu update zip from recovery menu
6) reboot and enjoy root access

It has native LED support, which actually works very well. On my Nexus 4 I used to use Lightflow, but with the Wileyfox I've not needed to use a separate app.

That's intersting. My stock recovery always complained about wrong signature of the update, so I had to use the CM recovery.
Now as I've got root I can read out the ROM. Does anybody know how to build the ROM image so that it could be flashed by recovery to restore the device?

Hey guys, I've followed all the instructions (adb, fastboot etc, fastboot is installed and working correctly etc), but when I try installing the recovery (for cm12.1) it says the system cannot find the file specified?
Any suggestions?
Or is there any other way that I could install the recovery?
I'd really like to start using the 12.1 nightlies

What do you mean with installing the recovery? You download the recovery image to your PC and flash the img file using fastboot. Then reboot and press the power and vol- buttons together.

Seems that the Wileyfox Swift still has the Stagefright bug number CVE-2015-6602. Does anybody know if Wileyfox will deliver a CyanogenOS update for that?
hello i am rooted with twrp recovery installed. I was able to unroot and download the latest 5.0.2-01001 ota but im not able to install the update it would just take me to twrp recovery and stop there.?? i found the update zip and tried to flash it in twrp but it says it cant mount and failed to flash any help would be appreciated.
OTA updates will require a stock recovery. I'm in the process of getting an Idol 3 but I used to have an Idol 2 and, to return to a completely stock ROM, I had to use the Alcatel Mobile upgrade too which identified my phone, downloaded the correct firmware, and restored the phone. Prior to restoring back to stock, I had cwm and root.
Thanks for the reply I tried the software update but its not working keep saying I have the latest even when I did a full wipe. Using the latest 4.9.2 version...is there a way to make a twrp flashable ota zip from the downloaded update file in the ota cache..

You cannot be rooted and install a stock update...it's mentioned in several places throughout the forum. Quickest solution is to use the mobile q to restore the whole phone to factory (and in the process it will put the latest version on it). Otherwise you have to fully unroot AND if you have modified any files such as build.prop or other system files it still won't work. You CAN install with TWRP however in the process of the install it will overwrite it with stock recovery. If I had to guess I'd say you did not do the supersu FULL unroot.

mobile Q is horse manure now. I ran into the same problem, whereby it says you're up to date (which it's not), even if you're running 5.0.2.7SMA-UEA1 ! I only know that one because I inadvertently flashed 5.0.2.7SMA-UEA1 today when I meant to flash 5.0.2.7SRA-UEA2.
Speaking of 5.0.2-01001, 5.0.2.7SRA-UEA2 is on longer the latest yeah... anyway we can update the firmware page? http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/general/want-to-able-to-install-ota-updates-t3163745
I just tried to OTA update to 5.0.2-01001, but OTA of course does not work if TWRP is acting recovery; it just reboots to TWRP and then if you reboot system, nothing happens. Although seemingly never mentioned, we must remove TWRP (even read only TWRP) before updating OTA?

The thread is closed. There is also no reason you NEED the most recent posted as you can flash any of them and then do an update. Mobile Q is the recommended method to re-do your phone if you can't manage to make a backup before messing with it. It has apparently worked just fine for people in this forum for every model type mentioned so the burden of proof is on your part if you can't get it to work.

Why would the thread be 'closed'. OP's problem is unresolved.
'Worked' is the operative term for. Perhaps you haven't used to Mobile Q tool lately? As OP (and I) said (today), running OTA from 6045 now just reboots to TWRP, no install. Alternately, when attempting to update 6045 from Mobile Q, it just throws a funny English 'update no needed' kinduva message (pic). Incidentally, have you been to their website to find an update to this tool? Holy crap, in that respect, Mobile Q must be a virtual breakthrough for these boys!
You're so helpful here famewolf. I've both appreciated and have been comforted by seeing your knowledge all over this subforum, since day 1. Please provide help. You tell me where this 'people' person is, and I'll wank on his boner for you. Then we have a definition of 'working fine' in stead of 'worked fine'. ?

'There is no greater software version available to upgrade your phone, actual version of your phone is the latest'
Hehe! Only thing that would make this funnier is if they misspelled 'version'. At least I can derive some amusement from that message and their ****ty, convoluted website.
Shame you can't help on that front, but maybe you can at least guide me on what should be normal flow of this procedure.
When one does OTA update unrooted (but with custom recovery), at the point that the phone reboots, it should not (in theory) boot into TWRP right? I would think just continue with update, and maybe that's why I would need to remove TWRP in favor of stock recovery.
It would be easier to attack it from that angle as opposed to their crappy win32 program. which they probably didn't pay the GoDaddy bill on.
I don't even know why I'm bothering as it's just a backup phone now. I just find it ridiculous that I can get their last measly update either from Q or from device (ostensibly so long as custom recovery remains). Holy bejebus, updating Shamu is so painless (6.0.1)

likely they have not updated their server side to to UEN0 from UEA2 for their craptacular tool which would explain that problem.
Curious, did you lose Band 12 with UEN0. I haven't heard anything positive from this most recent update that is giving me a headache to get to. Perhaps it's for naught. They don't even have a changelog do they. Meh... I'm going to forget about it until something notable comes along or maybe even just sell this thing while I might still get over a hundred.

As I mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64967202&postcount=4 you CAN install an OTA update with twrp...it will install it just fine however at the completion of the update you will no longer HAVE twrp installed because it will have been overwritten with stock recovery. (it does that at the END) This will be apparent the NEXT time you try to load recovery. Where do you imagine the update is processed? It's processed by the recovery app...it can't be done inside the rom because files would be in use. The last version I ever ran was UER0..was not even aware UEN0 was out. As I indicated, I switched to a rom based on cyanogenmod with some features I wanted...if I was going to switch NOW I'd choose blisspop and it's the one I intend to install the next time I have to do a reinstall. I don't see why you fight on 5.02 when 5.1.1 is available in various flavors and with the ARDE NON OC Kernel is rock steady. If you made full backups of your device (ie dd images of ALL partitions using the Backupall bat file or shell script running around the forum restoring to a previous radio is as simple as reflashing the partition using fastboot commands.
The radio is stored in the "modem" partition fyi.

So where is the latest update to flash with twrp (good dry run for me should a decent upgrade come out that isn't UEN0)? I just went with UER0 posted on yer thread thr with all the megaupload firmwares & flash restored system & boot (after full wipe); as an aside, it took, & I still have TWRP in tact. I'm well aware of your fastboot method & orig backup of ALL partitions. Seemed like a waste of space at the time, still kinda does.
Regarding your rhetorical question, I was referencing Alcatel's w32 Q tool. It seemingly wasn't updated to be keyed in on the latest update either. No wait, it said the same 'no greater version' crap even when I restored the original 6045i US system/boot fw from twrp, lmao

Why are you assuming I should know where the latest and greatest update for stock should be? Updates are customized based on the rom version you are running at the time you submit a request. I've already stated I'm using a 3rd party rom and using an OS that doesn't allow me to run their software. You consider my recommendations a waste of time so I'll quit making them and continue using my perfectly working device on 5.1.1.

Omfg buddy, you said, '... you CAN install an OTA update with twrp' ; all I did was point out that I flashed previous updates (presumably the same way you're talking about), TWRP remained in tact afterward, & asked you to follow through with that point with, you know, the actual update in question here that defies many of your assertions. One of your recommendations is broken (Q), the other is hindsight (full backup) & last (update via TWRP) seemingly not feasible (unless someone were to submit updated /system) . Anyway it's all a moot point now since we're just measuring our junk.
I'm tickled you're running 5.1.1, as you've said repeatedly... I tried it briefly on Shamu & was happy to leave the LP quagmire all together & get to 6.0.1. Sufficed to say, there isn't anything perfect about this device or 5.1.1, which is why I'll leave as is & sell it. :good:
Thanks anyway.
Hi,
I am new to this forum, so may have missed the obvious ..
I have a Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro (SM-J530Y) and am looking for a Lineage ROM for it. I have found one for other versions of the J5 Pro (specifically [ROM][UNOFFICIAL]LineageOS 15.1 [8.1][J530F/G/S][10/05/18] - I would add a link but for some reason my system no longer copy and pastes .. )
I have used TWRP and set up the phone, and tried to load the ROM listed above, but the install ends with the message:
"E3004: This package is for device: j5y17lte, j5y17letub; this device isj5y17ltedx.
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file '/external_sd/lineage-15.1-20180510-UNOFFICIAL-j5y17lte.zip'"
I read this as I have got the wrong ROM zip file to load onto this phone. Can someone confirm this?
Also, can someone point me at a ROM image that will work (or more than one if there are more than one ...)
Thanks,
Tony

For 8.1 ROMs you need a newer TWRP version , take the latest one and I think you won't have this problem anymore

Hi,
Many thanks for the reply.
I downloaded TWRP a few days ago, at the same time as I downloaded the .zip image, hopefully it is recent enough. It is version 3.2.1-0.
Is this recent enough? If not, can you point me at he latest suitable version (I tried looking around but as I am not familiar with the various sites, it still is a bit daunting.)
Thanks,
Tony

Hi,
Sorry for the confusion - that is the version of TWRP that I used and it gave me those error messages.
From your reply then, it looks like the TWRP version is not the issue.
Can you suggest anything else?
Thanks,

Ok , it look like your device isn't the right one , because the codename verification revealed that the ROM you've flashed isn't for your device's variant.
I don't know why I didn't think about it earlier, but now you have the right answer .
If you want to flash something , you have to know what's your phone's codename , now you know it's "j5y17ltedx".
Try to find the zip file for your variant.
And also press the thank button if I helped you
Download Device ID from the Google Play Store then it should reveal the code name of your device. It should be the same as TWRP shows. You should only flash ROMs that matches the device codename on the device.
The application lists out your registered email account on this device, the device codename, and your Google Services Framework ID. The one you should be looking for is Device Codename.

Hi,
Thanks fro looking at this.
From the error message I get, I assume that the devicename is: sj5y17ltedx
Is this correct?
Note that I have got rid of the default Samsung operating system so cannnot boot it anymore (Since I had a ROM I thought would work I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. I may have been a bit hasty ...)
I have tried to search for that name (sj5y17ltedx) but there are no hits in this website (xdadevelopers). Does that mean no one has built a ROM for my version of phone yet?
Thanks,
Tony.
There are currently no ROMs that supported your variant instead of the stock deodexed version of the Stock ROM.

Hi Tony
Looking in to this device for lineage os and found this post
was wondering if this was a good substitute and if you had any feedback regarding the ROM after a few months (potentially) of use?

Hey,
youyim123 recently made his TWRP build available that I was trying to compile myself. So without further ado, here is a more or less working TWRP for the Nubia Z18 with instructions of how to install it.
Link to recovery.img
How to install it:
Boot into bootloader using
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Unlock the bootloader using
Code:
fastboot oem nubia_unlock NUBIA_NX606J
Flash the recovery.img using
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
IMPORTANT! Navigate to "reboot to emergency recovery mode". Do not use
Code:
fastboot reboot recovery
as it might not work correctly!
I found disconnecting the device from USB to be more reliable, so do that for stability
If it gets stuck, repeat steps 1 and 4. No need to reflash, just be patient
Language will be Chinese, so change that by using the settings button (second from below on the right)
That's it, you have a working TWRP now Enjoy!
EDIT: DO NOT TRY FLASHING MAGISK AS IT WILL DAMAGE DM-VERITY AND YOU'LL HAVE TO BOOT RESCUE YOUR DEVICE! YOU CAN USE MY recovery script in the bloat remover thread to fix your device
In case you get stuck in a bootloop, repeat the installation guide, then use
Code:
adb push stock.zip /data/media/0
and reflash stock firmware as a last resort until a custom ROM is available.
All credit for this goes to youyim123 and his amazing work! I know he struggled releasing this because his work is often used or redirected without his consent or giving him credit, so I'm grateful he decided to release it.

In theory, yes. In practice, it somehow doesn't give me any GApps when flashing it. I'm trying to cooperate with the OpenGapps team to fix this.

None yet. I'd say community involvement isn't exactly one of the OpenGapps team's good points
See the Gitter thread for tracking updates here: https://gitter.im/opengapps/general
If you know of any other way to contact them, feel free to do so and send them the logs I attached in the gitter post (same username as here)

It is stable. Just make sure to unplug your phone after flashing it as otherwise it will probably get stuck after a few seconds. If you need to have your device connected to your pc, do the following:
Start adb sideload in TWRP, connect your phone to your pc, stop sideload. That way you have a working connection with adb again
Hope this helps!

i read somewhere in Nubia forums (chinese language), some dev is going to release TWRP for Z18, but it need poll to decide.
So that, i dont know this version on XDA is official or unofficial ? And as you said, if it is stable, so can i flash Gaap package to get full Goolge and service for Z18? have you tried ?
Already try few weeks ago, not working...!
The only temperary solution is "Google Space", or just wait for the global version release
As one Dev which working on LOS fot this machine point out that Lineage is very hard to compile since there's no other Dev help him, the System is block by something call AVB2...pretty ironic as this twrp not even let us using Magisk at all!

Please read the first post precisely and then the post in the nubia forum again. Youyim is the guy who made the poll and he made it public. I simply brought it to a wider audience and link to his official GitHub for the img.
You cannot flash Gapps with this because it errors. I said so a couple of times before and would appreciate a bit of effort reading before asking. You probably spent more time on writing this than you would've reading the first three post entries here, disregarding the fact that I'm trying to reply in detail. It's all in the first post, please read that before asking next time..
To sum up:
- It's the "official" TWRP from youyim, all credit goes to him
- You can not install Gapps with this, I haven't found a resolution for this but am working on an alternative. See my other thread or post #3 here

It's the same dev I'm the guy working on LineageOS as well and yes AVB2 (Basically think of it as Android's answer to secure boot on Computers) is a pain in the a** to deal with. Compiling itself is rather easy compared to the pain that comes after it, it's just killing lots of time and I unfortunately don't have that with a full time job. That's why I tried getting more people involved but (again) failed apparently.
TWRP doesn't have anything to do with Magisk either. Magisk is modifying the boot partition as far as I'm aware (don't hate me topjohnwu) and it relies on either no AVB/DM-Verity or a flag that doesn't work here either. TWRP in contrast just modifies/overrides the boot partition and is (mostly) used to flash many things including Magisk.
I think Z18 not have a global version, so we'll never see international firmware for this product. The only way I hope is some one or some dev support official method for install Google. And hope good news come soon.
Thanks all!

Isn't a global release coming in like 2 weeks or something? At least that's what I read last time I checked
I can tell you an official method. Root your phone and rewrite google services to system. Otherwise wait until developers can take a look at Rom building like I do now or even better, get involved. Being a one man show isn't helping the cause even if you have a couple spectators because it makes you feel more or less like a monkey in a cage

https://www.gadgetsnow.com/mobile-phones/Nubia-Z18 for instance. India isn't global lol. They mostly just buy masses of phones and then resell. And yeah I can understand they won't release a global version anytime soon. The phone is great but looking at the source code, it's horrible. I even had to submit a patch so they get their build fixed!
As for the download, try the second one. Baidu is blocking anything non China by now afaik. It will also be included in the LineageOS ROM whenever I'll get that done..
Hi all
I have just bought a new Oneplus 6 and wanted to install Lineage Os.
I had initially set up the OP6 with my google account and installed some minimum apps over a couple of days. The phone updated a couple of times. I think I started on Android 8, it definitely updated to Android 9 and I think it updated to Android 10. But I am not completely sure of this because I did not take notice at that stage because I didn't realise that this might have significance..
I followed the guide from the lineaoge os wiki here
wiki.lineageos.org/devices/enchilada[
I got as far as using adb to Fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-2-enchilada.img (which was the latest image in the dl.twrp.me/enchilada/
It then got stuck in the qualcomm crashdump line on screen.
I spent a day checking posts, including here on XDA. There are a lot of posts dealing with this issue and I did try to follow some of them with less or more success but no resolve. I downloaded Android 9.02 and used the following instructions
techtrickz.com/how-to/recover-oneplus-6-and-6t-from-qualcomm-crashdump-mode/
The routine started to run and then posted a series of error messages and exited. ( I have a screenshot of the terminal window but cannot see a way to post it here)
I have tried to research this further and there are plenty of posts and lots of suggestions. But to be honest I have become confused as some of the posts give significantly different solutions to each other.
I wondered whether it would be possible to give me some help or point me in the right direction to a post which is current and has the steps that I am likely to need succeed..
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I would recommend using fastboot flashable stock rom from here. People also like to use msmtool, but I feel like it is an overkill.
Please note this warning:
These ROMs can't be used to update or downgrade your phone but just to restore your phone, so don't use them to come back to oreo or to update from oreo to pie.
So grab the latest oxygen os 10, and follow the instructions to flash it. After that, if you are feeling a bit paranoid maybe download a zip from oneplus and do a local update. You now should have your phone back.
Official TWRP does not support android 10 yet, as far as I understand, so that is probably the issue. If you want lineageos 16, you should downgrade to android 9 using a downgrade package provided by oneplus and then update to Oxygen OS 9.0.9.
There is unofficial twrp by mauronofrio that supports android 10. If you want to go from OOS 10 to some other android 10 rom

Thanks very much for your helpful reply. I am now back to a working phone with Oxygen os10. And you have also explained what was wrong when I tried to fix it, I was trying to load an Oxygen Os 9 on a phone that had already been upgraded to 10 and you have explained what went wrong in the first place, I was trying to flash an incompatible TWRP image onto Android 10. So your short post has explained a lot. Thank you.
I am not feeling paranoid unless you advise that I should be and I do want to install lineage os. So I need to revert to Oxygen Os9. I have looked on the Oneplus site and that have found the option to Upgrade to 10.3 but no option to downgrade. In the Oneplus community there is a link to downloadable ROMs, these are divided into a number of folders some of which look not applicable. There are three folders that look of interest
1. Signed flashable zips
2. OTA incremental update zips
3. Stock boot-recovery images
Here is the link /forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-6-rom-ota-oxygen-os-mirrors-for-official-oxygen-os-roms-and-ota-updates.835607/
I can see it is not the OTA Incremental that I need but am unsure if it is signed flashable zips or Stock boot recovery images. or whether it is neither.
Do I flash as normal or would it be a local update?
I would be grateful for any further advice.
Thanks again and for any help provided now.

I have had luck with this downgrade package. I basically googled it, the package is hosted on a legitimate website, so that's what I used. Just download it, put it on your phone and do a local upgrade through updater app.
Once you have done that I would recommend upgrading to the latest Android 9, which is OOS version 9.0.9 I believe. Then go ahead and follow instructions to install lineageos.
I am actually on LineageOS 16 + MicroG right now, so I ran into the same problems you did Glad I could help!

Thanks so much for your reply again.
I used your downgrade link and that all worked well and then let it upgrade to OOS 9.0.9. Again all very positive.
I then tried to flash TWRP to the device using this image "twrp-3.3.1-2-enchilada.img" It appeared to flash okay. Then I issued the command
"fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-2-enchilada.img" over my adb connection and it returned to the Qualcomm Crashdump error.
I presume I have to start again with the exception that this time I can use a flashable stock rom that is OOS 9.09? Is that correct?
Then do you have any suggestions for getting round the TWRP problem? Did you use a different version?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hm. Yes, unfortunately the safest thing to do is to start again. But you can start with 9.0.9 right away.
People have been discussing a similar issue here. It seems like using unofficial twrp by blu_spark helps. Maybe twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.91_op6.img or maybe try the latest one.
Also, make sure you read the instructions on lineageos website. Make sure you have oem unlocked, usb debugging enabled and you clicked "always give access to this" device or something, do the fastboot set_active a. I have also used fastboot flash boot_a <recovery_filename>.img. However, I do recall using fastboot boot <recovery_filename>.img some other time and I think it worked....
Anyway, yeah, maybe try this modified recovery by blu spark and follow the instructions carefully.

Thanks very much for your helpful reply and apologies for the delay in my reply to this post, I have been tied up with work the last couple of days.
I did re-install OOS 9 and then followed the instructions on the Team Win site to install TWRP in the Oneplus6. I had success after I used the latest TWRP image and zip from that site . I was then able to install Lineage OS and Microg as I wished.
So thanks for the help all. Really appreciated.
