xperia z3 or xperia z3+ - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which one is better...

The X3+ is a tad faster but it overheats like crazy with video and intensive games (some even report overheating on light games and everyday use).
From 8 seconds of 4k video (to a max of about 18 seconds) you''ll get a camera shut down due to overheating. Even things like that augmented reality face changing thing (where you video someone and it overlays a funny mouth in real time) - 5-12 seconds of that at the Z3+ goes heat-FUBAR.
**********************
Mind you, I can't recommend he Z3 either - but that's just a single bad experience...
There's something f**ky in my phone that allows the battery to be 100% overnight after a charge but drain from 92% (after a little use) to 7% in four hours when switched off.
Your mileage may vary, of course.. I'm biased now but won't recommend either. Sour grapes? Maybe, likely...

Go with Z3 it's one of the best phones from sony in terms of stable and good materials. Support is long gone but I haven't been missing the Nougat update. If you're on budget go with Z3 as you will get a good experience at no extra cost, otherwise maybe you should try with something from a higher tier like the X Performance or the brand new XZ line. I have been hearing many good comments on the latest one and if I had bought my phone in a later time I would probably have gone for the XZ.
Anyways as a current user of Z3 since mid 2016 and with no plans to change it for another phone anytime soon I would totally go with the Z3.
PD: I wouldn't consider buying the Z3+ or the Z5 as it's the Windows Millenium version of Xperias. Personally I think the best high tier phones from Sony till now are Z, Z2/Z3, X Perf, XZ

If you care for android Nougat then the Xperia Z3+ might be your best choice but then again it overheats like hell. But If your are looking for features for a much reasonable price the Xperia Z3 is your bet.

Better then HTC One M8?

I need a replacement phone right now and I struggle between those two. I gernarly prefer HTC becouse of the design, sense, and the community support. How ever Z3 is around the price,6 month newer and has higher specs. Help me to make a decision please!
Z3 has 3gb of ram. Wuyh lollipop coming that eats a lotof ram, yoy will really need that quantity ti be futur proof. Htc m8 has only 2.
Plus z3 has vetter camera 20.3 MP unlike the 4 MP camera if HTC. The inly main advantage if thehtc is its design. But personelly I don't find the z3 any less beautifu.
Last but notleast, the epic battery of the z3 3100 mah.

But what about this loosing DRM crap that Sony annoys you with? And also I am concerned about updates since Sony pushes out 2 phones a year I am worried they will forget about it soon. M8 has a google play edition so their is at least always that.
Actually because Sony only produces a smaller amount of products they are better and quicker to release with the only exception being GPEs, all being equal I would take the Z3 over the M8 hands down as with lollipops new raw format for images the DRM keys for Sony's special camera won't really matter.
One last thing and my only gripe with the Z3 is the button placement is awkward (physical buttons) they are low and geared towards one hand use but it took me a long while to adjust... Go hold one to see what I'm talking about.
switch from the m8 2 months ago and havent looked back. the z3 is a better phone in many aspects, its faster, has a much superior camera, bigger screen, it lays flat on the table, its easy to grip and doesnt slide from your hand...
I do wish it had an IR blaster and was easier to root but still I am willing to live with this. The speakers are not as good as the m8 but still really good, especially being waterproof. The Z3 is also about the same size as the m8 in terms of width and height but is much thinnery and doesnt have the awkward curve at the back and slippery surface.
Don't worry about updates for the z3. it will likely be the same next year as it is this year.

If you like Sense, you may need to get used to Sony's take on Android. In the interest of full disclosure, I've owned 3 Sonys (T, Z1 Compact and now a Z3), and I love their UI. Anyway, my daughter had an HTC M7, which died recently so she got my Z1c... but that is the second bad experience I've had with HTC.
Stamina mode with Sony is as good as it gets for saving the battery.
For the build quality, you might find them similar. I always find Sony's to be very good.
For the Camera (DRM issue), there is a thread in here where someone tested the low light quality (I guess that's what most the fuss is about) and said there was hardly a difference. I can't speak to the change in quality myself.
Personally, if camera is not a big deal I think The M8 is better.

Having owned both I have to say that both are excellent phones.
I am very hesitant to put either of the phones over other one. First when I changed from M8 I just hated how Z3 UI looked, too big icons etc. I am now used to this and I find that especially battery is much better on Z3 and this really important.
I hope that more manufacturers start to pay attention to the battery life over how the phones perform. Nexus 6 is a good example. I couldn't care less how much they score on the benchmark tests if the battery is dead by afternoon.
First up, I admit that I don't own the M* but I have tried it in the hand borrowed from a friend. It lacked the 'love at first sight' effect for me.
The Z3 is a much better looking device, more symmetry, more balanced, flat on a surface, razor thin with a brilliant battery to tow. It really is the only device that can make iOS users turn their heads. Also, if you are a brand conscious guy/gal then Sony commands a kind of respect only bested or matched by Apple. The thing is waterproof as well. Has more RAM for better multitasking, brighter display with cool enhancements in gallery and video like x reality boosting. The display can go darker too for reading at night. The camera will show more detail, better for zooming in, cropping, throwing to a large high res display and for a more overall positive accumulated effect. The hardware button is a great addition esp for underwater shots and quick firing the camera from sleep. The low light capability is currently next to none amongst flagships (near dark scenarios). The only gripe I have with the cam is that HTC and iPhones snap images faster, making the user experience more effortless. Magnetic charging is just a bonus. Did I say the battery is really good? Finally, the M9 may debut so getting an M8 may lose novelty sooner than a Z3. Although the Z4 may or may not be round the corner too.
TLDR? The Z3 hands down. No competition.

I should point out that M8 was released before Z2 even came out. I know it because I had pre-ordered Z2 originally but since I couldn't wait I went and bought M8 from the shop.
So M8 novelty has already been much longer there than it was with Z2.
I also disagree about the design. Z3 is gorgeous, but M8 is even more beautiful.

M8 announcement: 25/3/14
Z2 announcement: 24/2/14
So your point is?
Let's be honest here. You like the M8, buy the M8. You like Sony, get the Sony. Pointless to argue.

I thought that Nokia already taught you that announcement and availability are two different things. M8 was able to purchase in April, Z2 came in May.

Some questions about Xperia Z5!

Okay so now, because my old Xperia Z got screwed, I want to buy a new phone in around next month. I have some questions about it before buying, some experienced users please try to answer...
1) I think the camera is best for smartphone when you have little sense of capturing photos. Though I saw some posts that claimed that little noise and all, but I want to ask what are your experiences?
2) The major problems with Xperia devices was heating problems. I read some reviews that told me that Sony improved a lot with Snapdragon 810 to run cooler for Xperia Z5 than its predecessors, is that true?
3) I am like hell a lot apps installer. I had almost 130 installed apps on my old Xperia Z. Will Xperia Z5 perform best without laggy in such no of apps?
4) Is CPU of Xperia Z5 really sucks than iPhone 6s or Samsung Galaxy S6?
5) I love the sexy design of Xperia Devices all the time, I am a big fan of it. Means is it good for rough and tough use? It should not like got hit and damaged something by just dropping it to floor! What are your experiences!
After all, what do you think of this phone comparable to Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6?
Hello,
1- I think the experience with the camera is quite good for my needs (random photos). And I believe that all problems will be fixed sometime by Sony.
2- I have a Z5 Rev 4 and had not noticed any overheating issues. Of course it heats, but nothing out of the normal.
3- It should perform better, since it has more firepower.
4- What do you mean by "sucks"? It has a latest Snapdragon Processor 810. It is one of the most performing mobile processors out there.
5- Don't know about dropping, I have put a case (TPU by Nillkin) from the very first day. The bright side of this case is that it is REALLY thin (0.6mm only), and preserves the phone's original sexy design =P
S6 & Z5 are the best phones out there in my opinion.
What made me choose the Z5 over the S6 was the design (Yeah, the Z5 is supah dupah sexy as you said haha). The Clean UI was a very important point also. And of course, the water proof and dust free body.
Edit: Forgot to mention the battery life, which in my usage, the Z5 drastically outperforms the S6
The s6 has terrible battery life I had one for 1and a half jaar and I am glad I sold it en got my self a z5

another issue to consider is the random cracking of the back glass.
the phone does get hot when you use heavy tasked apps. this could be a problem long term as internal components prematurely fail. but many flagships these days burn up anyway. not a big deal if you change your phones often.

Help deciding on what to upgrade (from z5)

Hi there.
Currently owning the z5. I intend to upgrade to a sd820, I know, minor upgrade but I am tired with this phone getting hot. (it gets hot whenever updating apps from play store, syncing my photos to the cloud and even chrome browsing, I won't even mention any camera related activity).
So I am choosing between Sony..again, the xperia x performance and the one plus 3.
I care most about battery performance and as I said the device not getting too hot (which, in turn can negatively affect the previous battery life). Then I'd like to have a useable camera (photos mostly). By the way, z5's photo capabilities are good enough for me, however I hated how the camera overheats and stops sometimes. Finally, audio performance is also important.
From what I can gather, oneplus 3 battery life is only marginally better. I also heard that xperia xp occasionally gets hot? Camera performance seems to not be a deciding factor, however I was only looking at some picture samples I found, I rather prefer the Sony's but it might be just me being used to z5's color/saturation?
Could anyone that had exposure to both these devices help me with deciding between the 2 on these aspects:
Battery life
Photo quality
Audio
Overall performance (as in everyday use)
Thanks

Sorry I can't be of use when choosing between the two phones but I would just wait until Sony bring out their next generation of handsets and you can decide if it's good enough or not.
I'm not impressed with Z5's to be honest (I have a Z5 Compact) but loved the design. It's a bit thick (hard to hold) and a bit heavy though.
I wouldn't buy Sony again after my Z5 experience. They've fixed most things now, but given the price I would expect a lot more. One+ looks great
I would suggest you a HTC 10. Bought one for my Mother a few weeks ago. Its really great!
im with EDGN htc 10 upto 50% faster from Z5 and better sound
dont know about picture and battery
and im also not gonna buy SONY anymore... sony X is about same as Z5+-,,, and Sony XP maybe faster but same audio, same lens.. (without the 4K filming, only if rooting)
also lots of bugs not the same service and quality
To be honest, I paid $800CAD for my Z5 when it came out last year and it's finally a phone I can enjoy (took Sony almost 12 months to come up with a decent firmware though, and everything before .224 has been nothing but trouble for me: poor battery life, bluetooth disconnecting, phone freezing, laggy/choppy UI)... the Z5 now has a pretty good stock firmware and is a reliable device, but at this point, I don't feel it was worth all that money. The OnePlus 2 I almost purchased last year instead of the Z5 finally wasn't an inferior phone by any means, but it was a lot cheaper.
The only phone I would maybe be be willing to pay $800+ for at the moment is the Note 7 (because well, like Samsung or hate it, the Note 7 is the ULTIMATE Android phone), but realistically my next phone will most likely be a ~400-500$ phone I'll get next year (OnePlus 4? I liked my OnePlus One a lot, so there's a chance). Flagship specs for the asking price of a mid-range phone is appealing.
Considering flagship Sony phones are well built but are also very expensive (some may say overpriced), my next phone won't be a Xperia. I'm not impressed at all by the new Xperia X series (same old hardware, build quality isn't worthy of Sony and the Z series, same old camera sensor/optics, etc.). From now on, a phone will have to be VERY special to justify a $800+ price tag as far as I'm concerned.
If I were you:
#1: Keep your Z5, it's still a good phone, wait for the OnePlus 4 or next year flagships, at least they will be a worthy upgrade (the 820 isn't THAT faster than the 810. I doubt you can even notice the difference in day to day usage)
or
#2: If you can deal with the Samsung firmware (it's not that bad anymore), absolutely want a new phone and have some cash to spend: Sell your Z5 while it's still worth something, and go get a Note 7 (now that's a significative upgrade from the Z5. The SoC isn't that faster, but more memory, better/bigger display, better battery life, better camera, USB-C + wireless charging, etc.)
I don't see the point of replacing the Z5 for anything else beside the Note 7 at the moment. The current flagship phones (Galaxy S7, HTC10, G5, name them all) aren't enough of an upgrade imo versus the Z5 you're using at the moment
My 2 cents, and sorry for my less than pefect English (Not my primary, and not even my secondary language )
What about one plus 3? I believe it's worth the upgrade since you won't spent much after selling your z5. Full Manual camera settings, 4gb ram, crazy fast charging and the flawless oxygen os.
I'm actually thinking about it but since our z5 is the last z and my emerald green is a jewel I'm having drawbacks. Battery life is the problem on my z5 I never get more than 4 hours SOT.

Just a follow-up on this..
So I gave up the z5 and bought the note 7 that I am using for 1 week.
In case anyone wanna know about the transition to samsung (my last samsung was the s2 awhile ago).
The reason I gave up the z5 was, I have mentioned before, the overheating issue, especially while operating the camera but there were some other instances.
In spite of this I kinda liked the z5 camera. Also, the battery life, when not overheating, I would get up to 6 hours sot in a full day. I also liked -- still do - some other
features of the z5, such as many elements of its hardware/software design, so normally I would've prefferred to move to a newer xperia iteration.
Anyways, I am on this samsung note 7. The device has been praised quite a bit so although initially I wouldn't consider it (reasons: samsung, touchwiz, edge screen) in the end I pre-ordered it.
So, how this note7 experience compares to z5:
battery: pretty much same battery experience, after having disabled some bloat (but only really a few so far, I think there's still room for improving further); I was hoping for more then 6 hours sot in a day considering the battery size but also, just like in the case of z5, I am using pretty much all the features, bt low power constantly on for my fitness/notification tracker, lte/wifi depending on location, all location scanning on, brightness half-way etc. I think the z5 standby time was better though.
overheating: no overheating so far, it's still warm outside (sometimes up to 30 deg Celsius). Yay!
performance: pretty much on par with z5, can't say the note is much faster as it should be perhaps.
screen: I am using the basic mode, brightness even at halfway is much more brighter than z5. Overall, the screen is fine and it's nice to see the actual deep blacks on it.
camera: I was afraid of this aspect. I am actually impressed by the camera performance, to resume, it seems to be just another generation really. The most impressive thing is how fast is it, even in low-light conditions. The only negative or positive if you will, the lens is less wide.
sound: another important factor, for me at least. Fortunately, samsung delivers here too. The wired or even bt sound compares well to the z5, to my non-audophile ears it sounds
much much better than sony's. The system equalizer actually works and makes a world of difference.
Other things note 7 I like: always on display, blue light filter, fingerprint works now all the time, the led cover view
What I miss from z5: xperia keyboard, fm player, double tap to wake, glove mode
Oh, and I received right away the August 1st security update (when I started it on August 22). Hopefully they keep up the momentum on this apsect.

Is it worth to change?

Hey,
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'll give it a shot.
I'm wondering if it's worth to change my phone, I've been using the Xperia Z3 since 3 years and I'm thinking about moving into Z5.
Would it be a good move? what are the pros and cons?
Thanks in advance!
honest truth for me, i would love to go back to my Z3 only cause of the battery life. like for like use i would get a day and half with the Z3 and now i barely make it to a full day.
i would probably look at one of the newer Sony's at least that way support will be there for a little while longer as well.
Doesn't agree with you, I'm running SlimX Custom ROM With Xposed + Amplify, Doze, Greenify ect..
I managed to customize my energy consumption using kernel Auditor and my z5 is now fully adapted to my everyday task and usage, my battery is way more efficient than when I was running stock

z5 has added features like 4k screen and better battery but the device heats and shows battery drainage if its not rooted and you haven't customized it accordingly! also z5 screen brightness has been kept lower than z3 so during day time you may face visibility issues
i would suggest if you wana upgrade try considering XZs or upcoming XZP having better 4g connectivity with 4 inbuilt antennas and snadragon 835 process

Xperia XZP (forthcoming)
At first I thought I decided wrong but now let say u use marshmallow, xposed grenify u won't regret it. I moved to stock nougat and it is great, just waiting for xposed
But I agree with colleagues here, take a look at XZ premium
The Xperia Z 5 Premium? the Dual sim one¿?
If that's it, it's around 450USD in my country, way cheap according to the normal Z5

If you need two sims get dual sim, otherwise no need for dual sim.
But for that money you should get OnePlus 3T, which is 10 times better,

Z5P is bigger screen 4k support device and amazing 801dpi
but at the same time its a responsibility to carry this big device
on the other hand z5 is pretty hand with a bit smaller screen
if you have deskjob and you spend most of the time indoors then go for z5p
if your more outgoing/sport/ athelete type person! got for Z5
Thank you for answering, I'll have that in mind
As a previous Z2, currently Z5 Premium and also many Sony accessories owner, my humble advise is: don't buy Sony.
Not that they are bad phones in any way, however as a company, Sony can not catch up with the competition and doesn't listen to the customers.
A couple of examples:
1) DRM thing. If you happen to root your phone they say it is out of warranty and some "special" code which improves camera, screen and sound quality is lost, forever! Sure there are workarounds for these DRM keys but this doesn't chance the fact that Sony is not being developer friendly here. Also, remember the guy who sued Apple and won? The court has decided that "the software which was bought with the hardware, is fully belonged to the customer and the customer is free to customize it". So, Sony dictating us NOT to root or live without an important-ish code, which I pay for when buying the phone, is nothing but only being disrespectful to the customer.
2) camera problem. As you probably noticed, Sony phones have the highest Megapixel cameras out there. We'll, that's just a gimmick. Every Sony phone's superior auto mode shoots at 8mp. Sony also suggests that we should use 8mp whether it's superior auto or - so called- manual shooting. As a camera manufacturer, Sony sells cameras to other companies and most of them flat out come with 16mp, without any advise for a lower resolution shooting. The reason to that is, if you compare a 23mp manual shot with an 8mp manual shot at mid or low light conditions, you'll notice that there is almost no difference. Only that, the 23mp shot is bigger in size and can be zoomed more, which gives you noting but a pastel noise. In addition to that, Sony never shares its true driver for camera, rendering 3rd party camera apps almost useless as they can only register 8mp wide screen and 3.15mp 4:3 shooting mode.
Sony will never admit the truth, but my educated guess is, the sensor has to share some resources while recording the light and colors, thus making it technically save it in 23mp but physically capable of intaking enough light and real life data only for a highest quality 8mp shot. This is why 23mp clear sky shot in the morning will be good quality but a low light shot will suffer and be even lower quality than 16mp cameras. At 8mp level, it is unrivaled though.
Again, that leaves us, customers in a fooled point. Technically Sony is not lying, but also not delivering what is expected. Nowadays, Sony's only advantage to a 12-13mp Pixel or iPhone 7+ is a wide angle FOV. nothing else.
3) screen thing. We, Z5 Premium owners have an 4K screen who runs at 1080p due to the heating and battery concerns. It only converts to true 4K with supported Sony apps. Rivals switched to the 1440p already. Full time 1440p. Japanese people try to understand market's demands so rookiely here, they simply think offering a potentially higher resolution screen will attract the customers. But again, this puts them into a lower moral position than even Apple's. Look at Oneplus, they do their best for a budget screen and make it 1080p, the premium rivals like Google and LG make theirs' 1440p and Android fully supports it. Sony is already a great screen manufacturer, why try gimmicks like that? I mean with their already present screen quality they could easily produce the best 1080p screen out there and market it "being the best of everything: screen quality, battery preserving, heat reducing, and with the clearest whites". Instead they make a 4K screen which only runs at 4K when selected few apps are used. The rest of the time it is 1080p.
Sony don't have a leading behavior in the market either. So it can not make it's rivals jealous and switch to 4K, in order to adapt Android world into 4K rapidly. They simply don't have that influence, actually I believe next Sony phone will be 4K+ resolution with 2:1 ratio..
4) development support problem. Developers actually love companies who are developer friendly. Sony is the only company who release an AOSP code for almost every phone they release, also all of their phones come with lockable bootloader. Yet, they lag when it comes to kernel, Rom, mod etc. support. Somehow developers won't prefer Sony phones. Hell, they even fight with unlockable and frustrating Samsungs and don't show love for Sony for some reason.
Well, I trust these guys. They are giving people, who use their free time to make things better and share it with us for freely, and also sit here and respond to our never ending problems. If they don't prefer Sony most if the time I say they know something.
So, long story short; I am holding a phone in my hands right now. It has a super screen, nice build quality and good sound for music. Also comes with good battery life, dual speakers etc. But I can't trust the company behind it for the future. I can't use 3rd party camera apps, I can't use the full quality of the screen, camera and sound with my desired ROM, I can't use it to its full performance without it slowing down due to heating easily... Also, there are totally visible touch modules in the best screen of the world!
I will enjoy this phone till it's old enough, but then I'll never buy a Sony product again, as Sony is the only Japanese in the world who lost my respect. It'll go right next to Samsung in my blacklist..

Xperia XZ1 vs Xperia XZ Premium

So I need to buy a new phone. This Xperia XZ is the worst phone I've ever used in my life for 2 reasons, general performance and battery life. The battery life has gotten so bad of late that I just cannot continue to use it. I waited till the announcement of the XZ2, but as far I'm concerned, that phone is complete and utter rubbish. So I have to choose between XZ1 and XZ premium. Now you may be wondering, why not just use another brand? Simple, benefit of a doubt. I have been using Sony phones for a long time now, and the XZ is the only Sony phone I have not been satisfied with. I love Samsung's hardware, but I cannot stand their software and super-slow updates. The Pixels just generally have issues. Oneplus has no SD card slot or waterproofing. The only brand I may consider is Nokia. So as it stands, the 2 phones that really suit my needs right now are the XZ Premium and XZ1, but I don't know which to choose, so I thought I'd ask you guys.
1. Which has the better battery life? (Major deciding factor)
2. In favour of XZ1 is the size, I find the XZ premium to be a bit big.
3. In favour of XZ premium is the display.
I think they are identical in every other aspect.
Which one do you guys think is better?
About battery, I'm getting great batt life with the XZ1 compared to XZ.
The biggest difference with the xz premium would be bigger screen and resolution, i guess battery is worst due to this (my guessing). Both phones are basically the same, the XZ1 should be supported longer cause it's a newer phone, personally I don't need a 4k screen atm, that's why i get the XZ1, besides prefer a metal back panel than glass.
XZ1 uses snapdragon 835 which is more efficient than the one in XZ. but have you trace which app that drains your battery?
I have been trying to figure out which app is draining my battery. I have uninstalled apps one at a time (BBM, Facebook Messenger, Facebook etc) to see if there would be a difference, and there is hardly a dent. Most of these apps I had when I used the Z2 and Z3 and both phones had fantastic, simply fantastic battery life. Coming from a Z3 to this phone is like night and day. On a bad day my Z3 would last till the end of the day (roughly 24 hrs) with about 4-6 hrs screen time, on a good day my XZ would make it till the late evening (roughly 18 hrs) with about 2 hrs screen time.
I think I might go for the XZ1 though. Seems like the more logical choice. There is nothing about the XZ2 that even makes me want to consider it.
Which phone did you pick finally? How satisfied with you with your choice so far?

XZ1 is just about $60 cheaper than XZP in my region. Probably only thing I don't like about XZP is the glass back design because I tend to drop my phone a lot.
In a mix to pick the right phone for a long time use (2-3 years solid). The other competitors to XZP are Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, OnePlus 5/5T, Nokia 8 in my opinion. All of them but Nokia 8 cost around $100-$150 more than XZP here. Nokia 8 sells for nearly $200 cheaper than XZP at the moment.

1. yes you need to baby sit XZP since its LARGE and glassy! must use bumpy skin to protect it
2. both XZP and XZ1 will definitely gets 3 year of android UPGRADES from sony
3. XZ1 will be remembered as just another phone from sony which came at no significant point. where
4. XZP will definitely be remembered in upcoming years!
I consider Xperia Z, XZ and XZP are the MOST POPULAR models in MARKET and also on XDA where Mods, Roms and kernel Dev is concerned!
