Such sad news, I literally got my device today!
The problem for me is that even though I could unlock my device now, the pull of users and developers to this device is going to plummet to zero on xda , there won't be any (or very few) ROM's, adopters will avoid the device... It's a horrible move from huawei who have a sponsor partnership with xda?? Xda have said they're going to fight it but my guess is huawei may look at their wallet rather than their hearts and stick to their guns.
By all accounts it's "to provide a better service". ???
I have a cooling off period for another 13 days.
If things don't change in a week I'm sending this wonderful opportunity phone back.
Never again
https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-stop-providing-bootloader-unlock-codes/
Edit: all that being said, I like this phone too much, even runs ppsspp and dolphin the same as the onelus 5 did, I've unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp and rooted and now it's running perfectly.
Going to give it a chance.

In the same boat mate, received the phone on Wednesday, got the bootloader unlock code sitting in my email index waiting to be used....and now I see this.
In two minds about the whole thing, on one hand love the phone it seems pretty damn great to me, only want to root for 2 issues (not fault of phone, just personal preference) but on the other hand, lack of ability to unlock bootloader will kill the community here. Do I keep it, unlock and just roll with it, or do I send it back and get something else (Galaxy Note or S9+ probably, community there aint dead lol)?
Have to have a good think about it over the weekend I think.

Avoid the galaxy unless you like baggage and more rules, if I was to buy another phone it would be the HTC 12, no doubt about it.
Personally I've used the unlock code twrp installed and I'm rooted.
Phones a beast, I personally think Huawei will decide against their decision, by all accounts HTC did the same and look what happened to them
Currently looking at debranding from the L09 to the L29 as updates are more timely. Either that or wait for some ROMs to drop.
I'm keeping it now, it's swayed me.
Although I'd I could get the HTC I'd do it in a heartbeat, epic development on XDA.

Since the phone is treble enabled we can use GSI. So theres no "real" need to have an active development community dedicated for this phone only.

You don't necessarily need to convert from L09 to L29 to get faster updates, you just need to change region from 782 to 432. The L09 & L29 firmwares are interchangeable and are released together but it's UK specific updates that are lagging behind.
Saying that, I don't think there's a way to convert to 432 without being converted to L29 in the process anyway lol

Which version of TWRP did you use? The official one or the non official one? Both have threads in these forums, but the official one seems to have more complaints and problems in its thread.
Thinking of getting unlock code... Does it end warranty? And how do I get product ID, that #*#*1357946*#*# thing did not work. Yes, did try right code, one i wrote here might not be remembered correctly?

Like i said, when I tried to get product ID the code was certainly right. To that message i took it out of memory, and did not remember it right. Funny, i can get for example imei code with right "dialer code" but not that product code. How to proceed? Would like to get unlock code, to be on safe side if I some day (probably sooner than later) want to use it.

Keep hold of the bootloader unlock code you got as if they go ahead with removing the service, they're likely to release updates in the future that will relock unlocked bootloaders on install. You should be able to re-unlock with the same code but it's a pain as an update won't wipe data but then having to re-unlock will ?

Just ordered the P20 Pro today after I upgraded my partners one yesterday to the P20. Its looks a fantastic phone so I had to go one better and get the pro. I got the unlock code for hers and will request mine tomorrow. Is there any need to use the unlock code? I don't plan on hoping for a better ROM as the stock one looks pretty reasonable to me.

When you went to the unlock app and selected perm unlock did everything go smoothly with no error codes? Did you also get a message asking if you wanted to reboot now or later and if so did you?
The unlock app did not have an error. It said this device is permanently unlocked and did not prompt to reboot.
They used the Google pixle unlock app from the play store.

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. This specific model can only be unlocked by using the Device Unlock app. Please refer to the instruction below to complete your request.
1. Locate the Device Unlock app from your app tray.
• If you don't see the application, you can download at www.t-mo.co/unlock-app or search “T-Mobile Device Unlock (Google Pixel Only)” in the Play store.
2. Tap Device Unlock > Continue.
• Ensure you have connection over Wi-Fi or mobile data
3. Wait while the device connects to the server.
4. Unlock options will be presented based on your device’s eligibility.
• View eligibility requirements on our support page: www.t-mo.co/unlock-policy
5. Choose the desired device unlock option:
• Permanent Unlock – unlocks your device permanently from the network
• Temporary Unlock – unlocks your device temporarily for 30 days (5 unlocks available per year)
6. Wait while the device requests the unlock.
7. If successful, restart the device to apply the settings.
• If you do not restart the device, a persistent alert will appear in the notification tray.
8. If you receive error messages after attempting to permanently or temporarily unlock your device, contact customer care to get help.
Unlock Request #: xxxxxxxx
Customer Name : xxxxxxxx
Mobile # : xxxxxxxxandset Model : OnePlus 7 Pro
Handset Make : OnePlus Technology
IMEI : xxxxxxxx
If anybody chooses temp unlock it won't enable oem unlock only permanent unlock will enable oem unlock. Also if you're having trouble choose temp unlock then reboot then choose permanent unlock. I had to do it that way as it would error on permanent unlock.
I can confirm had my phone permanently unlocked via TMobile chat went to the unlock app that came with the phone pressed permanent rebooted and under developer enable it and I am good , send the request to OnePlus for my unlock token

They were going to make an exception and unlock my device because I've been a customer for 16 years.

I contacted them on viber, they said the service is still in the works and when it's finished the price will be set.
Right now, seems like close to never. I happen to own Note 10, and I know it was possible to get boot code from it on the old software, back in Android 8 for sure.
That might not be possible anymore on those updated to 9.1, but would have to confirm 100%.
I work in mobile tech also reselling those kinds of services. The access to Huawei bootloader codes is tightly shut for months now.
In my opinion, there is a better chance of someone finally figuring out how to service Huawei/Honor on newer security/chipsets (which is the actual problem here) then of new access coming back.
Even if it did, it would probably cost $$$ and would most likely be shut down pretty quickly.
If I'm perfectly honest with you guys, those waiting for the boot codes might just be better switching to new devices.
I am looking forward to unlock the bootloader on Huawei P40 Pro and install some custom ROM like Pixel Experience in order to use Google apps services. Is that possible? Because Huawei don't have Gapps service due to US ban.
Bootloader is locked and Huawei stopped giving codes a couple of phone's ago so not much chance of any modding I'm afraid

That's right, I also have all my Google apps like Maps, YouTube, Play Store up and running fine on the P40 Pro.
But there's one detail missing: "OK Google/Hey Google" working on the lockscreen. That's the only thing I miss, but it's badly missing as I used that feature quite frequently.
Would be nice if there was an app (or a launcher) "just" listening for that keywords and firing up Google Assistant.
By the way: I just do not understand Huawei's move of ceasing to give away bootloader unlock codes. Would be such a simple way of bypassing that "Make Apple first again campaign" trade embargo and skyrocketing Huawei's sales figures. I just don't get it.

Anyway without google services (ant there is no way how to make them work, google play is NOT google services, sync is) and without ability to unlock bootloader HUAWEI became WORST phone manufacturer you can buy.

I have not spoken with any tech support at all about this matter. I simply have been looking through everyone's post and I had came across the one where you put the special code in the dialer system. However, prior to that I had popped in my old SIM card from my pixel 4 that was already unlocked and then I did the check in. Went back to developer options and OEM was grayed out and said to connect to the internet. That was last night and obviously I put my new activated SIM back in since that time .Now today all of a sudden I get the notification that my device has been unlocked. I checked my T-Mobile app and indeed it said that my device is unlocked and ready for any compatible network.
I would also like to add that I did do the temporary unlock as well before I got the message . Not sure if that part was before or after I swapped SIM and did the dialer method. And yes I know that that wouldn't have done anything either by itself but maybe that also helped possibly fool the system into thinking I was already unlocked idk but thats it honestly. Could be luck but I wish you all luck at the same time !
I have pics for proof including the 800 I still owe on it.

Okay I see what your saying I'm actually gonna do some more reading into that but I do know forsure it does exactly that check in to verify a connection to the internet and I assume by pinging googles server. The success notification is saying it got the ping back, meaning it's on the internet. Where the confusion I think your at is coming from is that the OEM unlock switch requires the internet purely to check if your phone can be unlocked or not (grayed out oem switch or not), so if it didn't instantly become available it is not going going to. When the device is fully paid off the switch, at least for t-mobile, will become available. But I appreciate you digging that up I have seen the title to that thread I just have never looked at it, knowing I'm more than likely **** out of luck, for now. New phone coming soon. I hope this makes sense

It's okay I went out of my way to do it lol and as for the phone then idk wtf happened something happened somewhere and at some point it ended up with me having it fully unlocked with $800 still left to pay .about to get a laptop soon to finally root. But on the T-Mobile app it says fully unlocked idk I'm happy. But now the 8 is coming out soon I have Jump! Upgrade so I can do it but I'm so cheap I held out for 4 years with my 4 non pro lmao
I have made some decent money this year so I swap around from my 7 pro, s22 ultra, and OnePlus 10 pro. I think I may trade in one for the 8 I just can't decide between getting rid of the 22 or the one plus. I'm leaning towards getting rid of the Samsung.
