Miracast App for Android TV Box (DLNA enabled) - General Questions and Answers

I have an Android TV box AKASO T95M which says that it's DLNA enabled. I couldn't find any Miracast app pre-installed in it. I've checked other variant of TV boxes which comes up with an app named "Miracast" pre-installed. Can someone please help with the apk that comes with other boxes (may be a backup of the apk from the box)?
I want to mirror my Windows 10 Laptop screen to my Android TV. I've tried installing other apps available in Play Store but that doesn't work. The TV is not detected by my laptop. Thanks in advance!

Hide HDMI output check

Hi All,
in Italy we use on our android tablet and smartphone some nice TV apps that doesn't work if you try to mirror or redirect the video on TV.
We would use this apps on our box android TV, but the apps always check if you are using hdmi port and , in this case, crash.
There is any way to hide the presence of the hdmi port for these apps ?
Thanks to everybody could help.

Every time I used the app I have to switch to wifi and its a pain...Thanks bro.:good:

original thread: http://freaktab.com/forum/development-area/app-developers-kitchen/4820-hdmi-virtual-switch
Is there any other app out there that will hide the HDMI? I'm trying to run a tv app on my fire tv and the app won't play live tv because it's hooked to an external monitor (TV). But it works fine on my fire stick and on fire tv it goes into the app lets me log in and even goes into the channels but won't play them due to being hooked to the tv. It's the Brighthouse streaming app I'm having issues with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am having the same problem but with Shaw direct freerange app. All the other apps output fine to the hdmi port but the freerange app now denies sending to a larger or even smaller external screen. It used to work before but no longer. Hdmi virtual switch doesn't work, it just locks up. RCA tablet android 5.0 k3.10.54.
The message i get when the hdmi cable is plugged in on the tablet end even if the tv is off is " mobile device only". These are mobile devices.

Side loading content

Do I need to install the drivers for the nexus player to sideload apps from my PC ?
If so, where are the drivers located ?
I have downloaded the latest SDK toolkit
Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
When I installed it the drivers were included. Don't forget you have to enable developer mode and then enable usb debugging to enable the ADB interface. That will show up as a different device in device manager (assuming you're on windows)

Is there a tutorial anywhere that shows exactly how to install the drivers and sideload apps for the Nexus player?
From the USB Driver thread:
DevinWatson said:
I got it up and running by:
Selecting update driver
Browse my computer for driver software
Selecting let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Selecting show all devices
Clicking have disk
Finally selecting \android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf as the driver
Hope this helps anyone else who comes across this issue.

And once you've got the drivers, I think you can use the Sideload Wonder Machine to sideload things, if you don't like using the command line.
I was sideloading everything with the OTG usb cable but then I installed ES File Explorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&hl=en and I've been using the Remote FTP server feature on there to just send stuff over without having to connect it to a computer. I think you can use the play store website to do a remote install over to the Nexus Player with ES File Explorer and then just get the APK for whatever you're trying to load and FTP it over. You can then use ES File Explorer to find that file you just sent over and install it. You will need the 'install from unknown sources' feature on still in the dev options but it does make it easier.
So how, exactly, would one side-load the Amazon Instant Video app? I would be happy to lose our aging Google TV but the Nexus Player doesn't support Amazon... does anyone here have a link to the Amazon apk? Thanks!
As far as I know Amazon Prime streaming won't work until Amazon gives their blessing and releases and app for the Android TV platform. There is an app for for phones and tablets available through the regular Amazon store app but there are some hoops you have to go through to get it working which includes sideloading their 'player' app or whatever, it's not a good solution at all and I doubt it'd be easy to use on the Nexus Player even if it launched.
With Amazon releasing their own set top boxes and HDMI sticks I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see a Prime streaming app on android for a long while, if ever. Our best chance at getting it on the Nexus Player would be if someone figures out a way to pull the native Fire TV app off that device and getting it working on stock android and some how keep Amazon from blocking it as they are actively shutting down apps that can stream Prime: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...d-removed-from-the-play-store-after-36-hours/
This sucks as I'd love to see all that content since I pay for Prime, I doubt I'll be renewing that next year though for this reason.
I sideloaded the instant video and amazon apps from my phone and both installed. I had issues when I attempted to watch a prime video however. Otherwise both apps worked fine.

I think you might be out of date a little. The Amazon store app now allows you to stream Prime video on most Android devices. No additional hacks or sideloading required.
side load apps that work
\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
side loaded apps tested so far
with keyboard and mouse only
maxgo
hbogo
showtime anytime
vudu sd only
Easy way to sideload is goto the playstore in the browser of your pc. Install esfile explorer to the nexus player. The app will not show up on the main page but will be in the setiings/apps. Make sure you have selected unknown sources enabled on the nexus player. Share a folder on your home network from your pc. Place the apk you want to install in that folder. Open esfile manager and goto the lan tab. You shoukd see your folder you shared on your pc. Apk installs no problem. My question is how do you get the installed apps to show up on your nexus player home screen?

Hisense H7 TV on VIDAA

Anyone got the Hisense H7 55" TV running VIDAA. It's a jelly bean based android OS TV. http://www.hisense-usa.com/tvs/H7/55/51
I already installed Kodi (XBMC) on it and got it going with my NAS setup...
just wondering if there are any thing else I can do to this TV.
Thanks
I got Kodi/Xbmc installed, I'm using BeyondXbmc the forked version for Android sticks installed and I'm getting stuttering issues on playback for 1channel. Is there a fix for this? I'm thinking about installing SPMC from the Play Store and trying it out instead. Also does the Hisense H7 play off an external HDD through usb? I'm curious because I have one lying around and would like to know if I can play through the usb port plug and play.

Is it possible to turn my old Android into a TV box?

Hello, first of all.
It's been a long time since I have visited this place, so excuse me please if I missed a similar thread. I have searched for it.
My question is if it this possible to turn my old Motorola XT 720 into an Android TV box (i.e. Chromecast or similar).
I have tried CheapCast app that only crashed when opening YouTube. This phone has a HDMI port and I assumed it can connect through it to my Philips TV, which is not a smart TV, but a regular HD TV.
The only connection I was able to create was the built-in version of media gallery from phone which has the option to display the pictures from phone on TV screen (proving there is a working connection at least).

This should be possible as the device has the ability to use another display. I would recommend using something like Tablet Remote or other similar apps on the Play store so instead of using the device as a chrome cast you can use it as a full media center device connected to your TV. By using one of these apps you would play videos directly through your device instead of "casting" them. This should hopefully work arround the issue of apps like CheapCast crashing.
Hope I could help and good luck
Thank you, Tablet Remote works good between the 2 Android phones. Still working on it.
I am also working on this route, trying to make use of my screen-broken Xperia Z. However apart from using as mediacenter with kodi, it would be nice if I could properly emulate chromecast. I would love to see a nexus android TV Rom being able to drive my phone, is anybody working on that?

Force Plex into Android TV mode

Hello all,
I think the title says it all. I have an old device that I would like to hook up to an extra tv for the sole purpose of using it for Plex. The kicker of it all is, I do not find the Plex Moble/Tablet interface to work all that well with a remote. Is it possible to enable or somehow trick Plex into thinking that this device is something like a Nexus Player, or some sort of other trick to force it into that interface?
That would be great!
i second that ! ... is there ? or maybe its an options on a certain version ?

Oh, hey. I actually know how to do this. Er - you need to put the attached file into system/etc/permissions. This should trick the Plex app into running into leanback mode.
Okay, one of those two files will do the trick. I forget which, but it's one of those.
What versions of android does this support?
I just had a look at the Raspberry Pi Android TV build, and this was the only file I could find in /etc/permissions that had anything to do with Android TV.
The build I ripped it from was Android 6.0.1
I have also included the LeanbackLauncher.

Plex actually has it as option in the settings.
settings -> General -> Application Layout
The choices are "mobile" or 'TV"
But does anyone know how to do change it so that "all" apps think they are on a TV box?
Arggh , more reading less thinking next time.
It looks like the xml file you attached might do the trick.
I will try it out for some of my other problematic apps.
Thanks
i have the inphic i5 running 4.4.2 I dropped both files but Netflix still thinks it is on a phone.
Any suggestions?
If you're okay with spending a couple dollars
Buy the app "App Cloner" in the Play Store
Then download plex and choose it in the App Cloner app
Go down the options and enable "Enable TV Version"
This should work if you install it on your device
