[Completed] Samsung S7 GPS Issue - Software or Hardware? - XDA Assist

Without warning, my S7 (SM-G903F) failed to find satellites when GPS is used. The GPS icon appears whenever an app is opened that uses location however several apps report 'no satellites' or '0/0 satellites. The phone has never suffered damage and only lightly wet, never submerged.
I have tried all the normal actions including:
- toggling location
- removing the case
- resetting A-GPS data
- restoring to factory
- wiped the cache of every GPS app
- wiped the phone cache from the POWER+HOME+VOLUME UP (forgot the name) screen
- installing every 'GPS Fix' app
Before I send the phone for repair, is there a way to diagnose if the issue is software or hardware related? If it conclusively a software issue, I am comfortable with flashing the firmware or similar. I am not comfortable however with replacing the GPS chip etc.
Thanks, Brad

Hello and welcome to XDA-developers!
I see you already have tried all methods avaliable. If your are comfortable with custom firmware, I suggest you install any stable custom ROM for your device just to see if the problem persists. If the problem is solved with custom ROM, its only firmware problem

[Q] no mobile internet on HTC Desire

Not sure where to post this so I'll do it here:
I have a HTC Desire that was factory loaded with Froyo (Android 2.2). So far it worked fine, with one exception, which is that occasionally the mobiel internet would just die on me and not turn back on whatever I set the settings to. So far the solution was to cold start the phone, which allowed the setting to clear and re-enable mobile internet.
However, this morning I lost it and the restart did not work. I tried removing teh battery for an hour or so, remove the SIM card, none of which helped. I also did a hard reset, clearing the whole phone to factory settings. This also did not work. The mobile Internet is still dead. It's not my provider because my colleagues use the same provider and at the same physical location, with full reception, an dthey do not have this problem. Some have the same phone even, others have a different phone.
I'm not so sure this is a hardware failure because I do have full reception and can send/receive SMS messages and make/receive phone calls. I would imagine a hardware failure would also take out the telephone radio disabling my phoning capabilities. SInce that still works I suspect a firmware issue, maybe a setting in NVM, or NVM corruption.
I wonder if flashing the phone with new firmware would solve the problem. If it is a memory location that is now corrupted to a permanent "off" setting, then reflashing probably won't work, would it?
Any suggestions?
PS, the phone is unbranded
any ideas?

Gps stipped wirking

Hi guys,
I'm using latest Primo-s rom for aproximately 3 weeks. Some days ago installed IGO navigation and used for one short trip. Later that day I tried to use navigation, but phone did not saw any gps satelites. Even in status bar there is no gps icon, when I turn on gps. I tried several reboots but it did not worked.
Any ideas how to fix it?
on gps test app it shows that gps is on but it see no satelites. Tried agps data refresh, but id not worked
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA
Stupid question, but have you actually rebooted your phone into recovery and tried clearing the cache?

rebooted into recovery, wiped cache partition and dalvik cache. Not helped.
But I found very strange thing - when I go to task manager and kill process /system/bin/surfaceflinger - phone goes to start screen for several seconds, then goes to normal operation. Atfer that - gps works for one session with several applications. When I turn gps off, and then turn on for a second time - it does not work - no gps symbol in status bar, applications do not find any satelite.
Maybe the problem is caused by you turning GPS off when you don't use it? I never disable GPS as it uses very little battery turned on until you run an app that actually uses the GPS system.
What happens if you just leave GPS enabled all the time?

I always keep gps turned off to save a battery. I don`t see reason to keep it always ON, because I need it only once a week. Earlier, before I rooted phone and started to play with different ROMs, GPS worked perfect.

You are currently using a ROM based on a different device and using a leaked, unofficial kernel. That often means that various problems can occur - and they don't always affect everybody. I am just trying to suggest a workaround that might help you out and is worth testing, otherwise try a different ROM to see if you suffer the same problem.
ok, thanks
I found this thread about agps patch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21325390
I`ll try this later, maybe this will fix my problem
AGPS patch has nothing to do with your issue. It helps faster locking - and also not always, only in specific cases when default aGPS settings give poor results. Your problem is that the GPS doesn't even turn on.
Also, since we're at it, there's absolutely no reason to turn off GPS switch. GPS doesn't use battery AT ALL until one of the apps actually requests it to function and give position.

Issue with wifi and GPS lock

I can't connect to any WiFi routers for some reason. It will say connecting then saved and then connecting again. I'm also having isues with GPS lock. On maps it literally shows me jumping around between several different buildings a block ot two away. Should I do a ROM reflash? I'm on synergy ROM.

Go back to an ICS rom - get lock and then flash back to synergy
Do a clean flash of Synergy. A clean flash includes formatting system. The maps and location apps are in system/apps. This problem is usually accociated with corrupted maps and location apps and google framework. Alternately you can also try this fix although it will not fix any other problems flash related.

I'm on Synergy r73 and initially had a bunch of GPS lock issues. It would work intermittently. Sometimes it would lock then halfway along the route it would tell me I'm on a road that was several blocks away. Sometimes it wouldn't lock at all, not picking up a single satellite. I was close to a complete reformat but then I followed the directions in that link posted above and also used GPS Status and did all the calibrations.
It didn't take at first so I went back, cleared data on maps under applications manager, unchecked Standalone GPS services, unchecked Google location services, backed out, went back to location services and rechecked Google location services and Standalone GPS services, ran GPS status calibrations again, rebooted, then ran GPS Status calibrations again.
I probably didn't need to go through all of that, but after doing all of that GPS Status showed I was picking up satellites again. Hope that helps with the GPS issues.
As far as wifi, it gets weird every now and again, but I just turn it off and back on and all of a sudden it works well again.

Device only location not working

Hi guys, so after using spoof location app for 1-2 days (like really less than an hour per day), now my Nexus won't find a location when its set to "Device only". I think it doesn't even connect with any satellites. What I tried is some of the "GPS fix" apps, wiping cache/dalvik, factory reset, new ROM, still the problem persists. The location is working properly on High Accuracy mode, but I need it to work in GPS only mode too...
Any ideas ?
Hey!
I too am facing the exact same problem on my nexus 4. So please post the fix if you find one!

GPS Not working at all (SM-G930F)

My S7 GPS doesnt work at all, i have tried to factory reset multiple times (normal and with Odin), using apps like GPS status to clear AGPS data, changing settings (permissions only for apps in specific, GPS location only, high accuracy, etc) but still no luck, i took my phone into service and it was working back, however it only lasted 1 day, now even if i factory reset problem persist.
Is there anything i can delete or reset to fix the GPS? there must be something software related that its not being cleared properly
NV Rebuild?
Does anyone know how to access the service mode on S7? i tried with *#0011*# but after doing the "back, key input" it doesnt do anything with codes Q0, Q1, Q+0000, 0000 etc
Would and NVRebuild help with the GPS issue?
