Best MM rom?? - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anybody suggest a good rom+kernal combo that can be used as a daily driver??
Thanks

Don't use mm...go instead of mm roms to nougat roms....nougat roms are far better in performance, multitasking and gives almost same battery life

I was using an old version of RR and FireKernel (or was it Optimus, I forgot). The only reason why I was using MM is because of Xposed support.

there is no "best" ROM. they will all have strengths and weaknesses
that being said, the most solid MM ROM is CM13, but it is really slow in relativity.
RR is another good one, but has bugs that are more than noticeable to me
as was previously stated, N ROMs perform much better than MM ROMs in almost every way. MM was not a great OS. the only issue with N ROMs is that they all have one bug that gives trouble when switching from WiFi to cellular data. still worth the transition. i tried to go back to CM13 recently, and immediately notice a huge drop in performance after having used N for a while.

I had been using N Roms for a while and got tired of the minor bugs and annoyances. When back to stock MM, installed xposed + gravity box, also using Substratum. Been like this two weeks without Motorola Camera crashing, Screen Dimmer isn't being killed randomly and my Bluetooth devices are not disconnecting randomly.
Also like Active Display way more than Ambient Display.

Thoughts on ROM choice/need advice

I hope I won't hurt the moderators feelings by creating yet another thread on this issue.
I've been using my ONE S (S4) for a year and a half now, and have tried only two roms to date: the official one and currently CM10 (10.1.3).
Official rom seems to be smooth and responsive enough, greatest camera software (I guess that applies to any Sense based rom though), but only untill you start dealing with multitasking. Sense probably takes to much memory, so switching between heavyweight apps (Facebook, Navigon, Torque) basically means starting them over again.
CM 10 has it's own pros and cons:
it's lightweight, responsive, but camera software kinda sucks in comparison with stock one and screen turn-on lag drives me crazy sometimes.
I also have weird problems with CM when it all of a sudden reboots and gets into the bootloop mode, or starts being power greedy (100 to 30 in 10 hours without apparent processes responsible for it), in which case cleaning caches and fixing permissions helps.
Also, can't really say that battery life is much different on both roms, but on the other hand I don't bother switching off GPS/WIFI/3G (I still need my phone to be 'smart', you know).
Maybe I'm missing something an there are roms (or maybe kernels?) that combine the best of both worlds?
Is there a lightweight, responsive rom (maybe supporting some alternative tuned power saving kernels) which has great camera app and is stable as hell?
i use odyssey rom (3.21 build) which has been the most stable/quick/customisable i've found (it's a happy medium at least). battery is ok with the kernel that comes with it, but i've tried with the bubba kernel which does give slight battery improvements, but i get bootloops with it.
Hi,
I'm running on PAC-Man ROM. It's based on Cyanogenmod and has some extra mods. I can say I have never seen a better rom than this one. I am very satisfied with it. And one thing you should be interested in about this rom is that it doesn't have only the basic CM camera, it has an app called Focal too. It is a built-in app so you don't have to care abut downloading some extra camera software.
I am really very satisfied with this rom so far. I can only recommend it.
But, of course, you should try it on your own.
Good luck! :good:
@twotimer I understand that you are simply trying to find the best combo of rom and kernel for your device. The problem with these kinds of threads is often times they tend to move more to discussion which compares roms and kernels or sometimes even other software. For the sake of the public, these threads simply just aren't allowed to exist, no matter how they are phrased or presented. Sorry.

[Q] Note I717 / Liquid Smooth Rom 3.0 (4.4.4) Minor Issues

Hey guys,
First post on XDA Devs.
Just flashed the Liquid Smooth Rom on my AT&T Note I717. Love the performance, my games are significantly smoother, and my device is much more responsive. However there have been a couple of issues. The biggest thing is when I bring up the keyboard, and tap any keys on it the screen flashes, and occasionally what I'm trying to type in portrait mode is covered by a black space above the keyboard. This only happens on the qwerty keyboard, the calculator only mode does not cause any of these issues. I would also like to note that I have tried installing custom keyboards and disabling the built in ones, and disabling text to speech. Everything is up to date. Anyone found the cause and (hopefully) solution to this?
The other issue is that within a few hours memory usage is extremely high. I know the note does not have much to begin with but stock used more and maintained it better, anyone have suggestions on how to automattically keep my memory clean.?
Thanks in advanced, even if the problems don't get resolved Liquid Smooth is still one of the best in my opinion.

Underwhelmed

Am I the only one here that is underwhelmed by this phone?
I received my 64GB version today, did the rooting/recovery stuff, installed some apps (mostly news) and find the phone slow, with shocking battery drain, poor network signal and a purplish hew on display ( gets better if brightness turned up)
It's on stock with 44s Cyanomod software version.
My comparison is with the my previous phones S3,S4,N4,N5 and HTC One M8.
I'm going to initiate a return.Very disappointed.
Well, I came from, have a G3, which I really like. We've gotten 3 OPO's. Battery lasts for several days with moderate use, heavy use for my daughters phone, very nice. We've made no special 'battery setup' to have this several days battery life.
In general, I find the quickness on par with the G3. The phone works well, overall we are pretty happy with them, and two of the three of us mess about with the rooted side of 44s to experimental L ROMS. A few of the L ROMS, though notably more snappy, still are rough, so unless I don't have anything to do, I try and stay away from them... until the oem version comes out.
Display is great and uniform. Networks work just like my G3, consistency and strength, the data/phone side providing I have the correct APN.
I was just checking the OP against my G3 yesterday, after the G3 having sat for a month, being un-touched. My sense of the two remains the same. The G3 is a bit more polished, but the OPO allows for getting into the dirt and playing with it.
Sounds like your initial experience has been unsatisfactory, and the initial 'presentation' of a thing can sure put a cloud over it. Just like meeting a person for the first time, first impressions can make or break it.
Good luck.

I hope this is a hardware problem with your phone, and a fluke. I've just ordered today and hope it is better than my Moto X(2).

Hopefully for you this is a hardware issue.
I've initiated a return and since this will take some time I've decided to install other ROM's in case it was a ROM issue.
Just installed the Mahdi ROM but Titianium backup restore doesn't want to work.
Time for another ROM.
Will update if another ROM solves the issues I've had.
No luck with this phone.
Installed mahdi, Stock 4.4.4, Pan Android and cDroid.
Another strange issue that I've had with all ROMs is Textsecure and Viber apps not working. I have never had issues with these apps.
Started the RMA.
I'll go back to the N5 and live it's poor battery & only 32GB storage.

I had a problem with TB on Mahdi as well. It would crash spontaneously. I wiped out TB and installed fresh. IIRC it was something like that that cleared up the issues. If I remember I'll let you know.
Agree 100% op. Got mine a few weeks ago from craigslist. Very laggy phone on all ROMs I've tried. Battery life isn't anything to brag about either. Only reason I'm keeping it is because the lollipop ROMs seem good soo far. Definitly not a flagship killer phone though.
You guys probably got bad hardware. I am on the 2nd OPO (broke first by accident), both have been really good. Exactly the same setup on OPO and N5, OPO battery lasts twice as long and there are no lags of any kinds. I actually sold the N5 on Ebay today and bought a 16gb OPO, so I am going to have two

[Q] Lollipop rom stability issues? ParanoidAndroid has finally made me happy again.

The transition to Lollipop has been one of the most frustrating transitions on my OPO. Battery life completely destroyed, random reboots, bluetooth glitching, screen sensitivity issues. Just horrid. Many times I have considered going back to CM11S because it was amazingly stable and the battery life was top notch.
FINALLY I have found a lollipop rom that hasn't made me want to throw my phone into the wall (I have literally thought about it several times when my screen is having a completely unusable moment).
If you are having any of the above problems, I recommend grabbing the ParanoidAndroid rom. Bluetooth finally works without a glitch, battery is acceptable (still not 11S worthy, but 2 days without a charger at least). No reboots/crashes that I was getting with CM12. No more frustration.
Has anyone else had my frustrations and been happy with PA? Anyone have any other rom suggestions?

I haven't had any stability issues with Lollipop, apart from BSOD problems on Nameless. The battery isn't as good as KitKat, but all ROMs I've tried have preformed really well. Have you tried Exodus?
@Heisenberg
What are the requirements for Exodus (firmware, kernel, etc.)? It is based on CM, does it have CM theme engine? I am looking at the thread, but not finding any relevant (via XDA app tough) Thank you!
Edit 1: ON G+ site, I found all the info

Testing Daniel's 5/12/15 Marshmallow Omni Rom for p-6810

I used to use Daniel's Slim KK rom which was, for me, a bit laggy and suffered from battery drain. I tried a few Lollipop roms but I found them to be generally too laggy and unstable. After another morning of turning on my tablet only to have no juice, I thought I would give Marshmallow a whirl.
After backing up my apps with Titanium, I factory reset and wiped my tablet (I'm using twrp 2.8.7.1). Not sure if I need to do both but it has always worked for me ....
I flashed the above omni rom, open gapps nano (the stock version failed - too big, apparently) and Superuser v2.46. The reboot took a little while but it always does after reflashing.
Thereafter, this rom has worked well for me, probably better than Slim KK, and I'll keep it as my daily driver. I'd stress I am no power user - my tablet is for surfing, a bit of e-mail and a little bit of streaming. All of these been fine , the only real downer being that the tablet will crash and reboot sometimes when surfing. This is typically when using Chrome, so not really an issue with this rom as I find Chrome for android a bit unstable generally. Opera is a bit better but some sites don't play nicely with this rom (I'm looking at you Game UK). Google Play has worked with no bother and wifi has been stable. And, most importantly, no battery drain! I'm also using nova launcher prime (because it was on sale in Play, a bargain at 10p), which seems to make the tablet operate smoother. No idea why or if it is just an illusion but I'm happy with it.
Overall, I'm really pleased with this rom. Many thanks to Daniel for keeping our (relatively) ancient tablet alive with his continued efforts - much appreciated. I'm looking forward to Daniel's next version of this rom and what he does for us when android 7 comes out!
