Uninstall TWRP and Root - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

How do I uninstall TWRP and unroot my Honor 8 so I can update to nougat. I have FRD-L04 EMUI 4.1

When it says your device cannot be trusted on boot, just hold down volume up (not before that warning comes up), then select download and install latest package. Your phone will be relocked and everything will be stock.

Yes, everything will be like how Huawei had it before you installed anything.

Doesn't holding the volume up gets him to the recovery?

No for some reason when you hold it while on the warning screen it will bring up Huawei's E-Recovery instead of TWRP where he can download their firmware and the phone doing everything to restore it. I don't know why it does this, but you can also see it in action too with your phone. I accidentally did it when I installed TWRP at first, held it down and then it brought up E-Recovery instead of TWRP, but holding power and volume up before the warning screen brings up TWRP.
I guess Huawei wanted you to always be able to restore your phone if everything got corrupted.

And yeah I guess one of the only good things they decided to put into the software lol
But one thing that puzzles me is that there are all these complicated threads and methods about relocking and going to stock when it is so simple to use the E-Recovery, do they not know this method?

It erases all user data and apps too?

Most certainly it will.
So rule #1 applies: Always make a backup to your external microSD card.

Use the rollback package from Huawei
There is also a instruction how to rollback.
But you neer a external sd card for it.
Just search for it here in the forum or on the Website it self
Here is a small instruction but first make sure which model you have (frd-09/04....) The second and third post i think
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/totally-screwed-honor-8-t3556678
Download the right rollback stuff like firmware for your model!

Try to go back into recovery by hold down volume down and power button until you see while text on the screen then release both buttons, now press the volume down button until the "wipe data" is highlighted, now press the volume up button twice to execute factory reset. Once done see if you can boot back into the OS.

Your bootloader/recovery image maybe corrupted. Next thing to do is to flash a full Asus firmware. This will wipe out your root.

Unzip the zip file downloaded from Asus site, the final file name should be "US_epad-user-10.4.4.16.zip", copy this file to the root of your micro sdcard. turn off your device, Insert the sdcard back into your device, boot into recovery, by default RCK should be highlighted, just hit the volume up button to execute the upgrade. If you have a red android, try to rename the file to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip" and try again. One thing that really bugged me is that wipe data (factory reset) did not work as normal, but ignore this for now.

You renamed it without the quotation right? like EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP
Also make sure you don't have any other zip file(s) in the root of your sdcard.

going back to stock

I flashed TWRP and unlocked bootloader, I am on mha-l29c636b158. How can I return to completely stock? I want to receive updates via ota because I read that there is a new update to fix the touch screen not being responsive. Or is there a flashable stock zip update I can flash?

I spent that past two days rooting and flashing the one rom I could. Had to ignore some Chinese. I am USA 567B167. Got into trouble a number of times. This phone is funky compared to all the rooting I have done. I booted into erocovery, downloaded stock 2GB, wiped and was back to current stock without issue. It bootlooped if I didn't hard reset and wipe cache.

yes. I did it twice. that is how many times I got into trouble and was the only solution. It worked great as it gives you the ability to log into wifi with a keyboard present to put in the password, then downloads the stock current rom and flashes it. You have to format data and wipe cache yourself.
Miss Wugfresh root tool. Get you out of any trouble.
It says getting package info failed in erecovery

Erecovery only work for Chinese firmware.
Use the guide above and yes you can receive ota.
I also received the same message. Getting into recovery was inconsistent for me even with TWRP. Sometimes it would do the auto downloaded and fail thing and other times it would go into TWRP. You need to get where you have three choices and pick erocovery and push the start button. This brings up the restore ability. Worked perfect on the USA model.

Completely positive. It happened by accident because I got in a bad place with HRT rom. Came out completely stock and current when no upgrade need. Then I rooted stock and somehow lost gapps including keyboard. Did it again and back to stock. All in erecovery. No other programs or files. It did a 2.5GB download, flashed in Emui and rebooted like when I bought it.

Sorry for the no noob question: I just got my mate 9 and unlocked bootloader and rooted it. Recovery is TWRP 3.0.2-2.
Where do i find this erecovery? Couldn't see any download option in TWRP and even Google didn't know that term. Could anybody please explain step by step how to revert to stock (for the only sake of getting OTAs) once the phone has unlocked bootloader and is rooted using the method from xda with modified boot.img?
Or is it even possible to take OTAs while being rooted with system read only? On my previous phone, the Asus Zenfone 2 this was possible.
Thanks a lot

Thanks for the quick answer. Let me clearify what I understood : this erecovery is available only on the PC?
So basically I wait in rooted state until I receive the next OTA, don't take it but switch off the phone.
Then connect it to the PC and boot it up by holding the volume up + power key.
Then what happens exactly?

Then after downloading the firmware, erecovery will flash it and overwrite root and lock my bootloader again, correct?

Stuck in ERROR MODE

I already wrote something like this in a similar thread, but for another device (read the device name wrong), so I thought i should post it in the right place.
I have been playing too much with stuff that i probably shouldn't have been so hasty about. So i have finally arrived here on the ERROR MODE (with unstoppable boot loop), which looks exactly like the bootloader only it says ERROR MODE instead of whatever, where i can't get into any other type of recovery or fastboot mode, no matter what button combinations i do. I previously could get to the fastboot mode, but i was still stuck so..... I made the very wise choice of relocking (since i hadn't tried that) my device, and now I can't even access fastboot (nothing. tried every button combination i can think of). So I am sitting here wondering if this is the end of the journey with my... relatively new phone... So, yes. No way of accessing anything and my phone is in a reboot loop i can't stop. Only thing is the error code i get "ERROR!":
"Func NO : 16 (lpm3 image)"
"Error NO : 1 (security verify failed!)"
Is there hope? or no?
Also noticed the light flashes green 3 times then red 1, then continues this pattern. Idk if that's useful or not.
Here's a pic.
It doesn't seem to have fastboot connection here, either.
OP were you ever able to fix this issue?
@Kimuchuu its not clear from OP had you relocked your bootloader if yes then you cant modify your system you need to have unlocked bootloader inorder to perform system modifications.
Ah. Yes, unfortunately I relocked it. I ended up sending it to service with no hopes of getting it back working, but they sent me a brand new one. So that's that.
I guess I was lucky, but really there was not a single thing I could do at that state.
You can be really happy that they sent you a new one, but it's not a unique case, in CZ there were few people who had same or similar issue and Repair service gave them new phone too.

I also had this problem, trying to screw around and force a ota update via flash fire onto a modified system... Reached rhe same sddor mode, luckily I was able to manually flash all the partitions back to stock using ADB and finally once all partitions were back in order it allowed me to enter recovery mode and download and install system software threw recovery... Took me about 4 days of non stop tinkering to finally get it working again, I had all but lost hope in all honesty... Thankfully I was persistent and all is well now!

Recovery is the one which installs ota updates . Erecovery is an emergency recovery. It can help u restore ur phone to previous version by flashing full original firmware
I got it back to work....
I dloaded the rollback update.app
and then the real stock software
I think the thing that saved me was that i flashed stock recovery before having the glorious idea of relocking the bootlaoder.
So for anybody:
If ur device is not working DO NOT LOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER

yup thats the main point if you are not fully stock and soft bricked you are not advised to lock your bootloader. Once you locked your bootloader you can no more modify your system.

It should now boot properly and you can relock bootloader after that if you want to.

After flashing OpenKirin, and not being satisfied, all i did was following the steps to restore
the phone back to stock, flashed original recovery, locked the bootloader, but after all was
done and it was time to reboot, all i got was the blue honor screen, and nothing worked.

I encountered this too. Have you tried wiping data in recovery?

@Anonshe : I can't even enter fastboot, that is my big problem @adriansticoid : I can't enter anything, all button combos only starts to the blue honor screen, and no more

Just shut down your phone then while holding the volume down button connect the cable to your phone. If it still doesn't work try changing cables. You surely can enter fastboot mode regardless of what you have done.

That's bad. You might wanna consider the service center.

@Anonshe: tried four different cables, same thing happens. @adriansticoid: I have a open ticket at huwaei, to see what they have to say, and I guess it will be service.

with the phone a few days

You can install a custom ROM for the moment so you can use your phone. I'll search for it later I'm just a bit busy right now.

Honor 4c upgrade from kitkat v4.4.2 to marshmallow v6.0?

Im using Huawei Honor 4c running OS v4.4.2. Now I want to update my device OS with v6.0 EMUI 4. I found one on official website but with different build number. My device build number is V100R001C185B130 but firmware on website has build number C185B503. Will there be any issue if I upgrade firmware?
Also do I have need to first upgrade from Kitkat to Lollipop and then Marshmallow, or I can directly upgrade from Kitkat to Marshmallow?
I'm wishing to upgrade official firmware availabe on Huawei website.
If the firmware is wrong the update will fail and device will stay in previous state.
Trying to go straight to Marshmallow won't cause any issues, update will fail before starting if it doesn't work.

Okay, thanks for your reply. I will report you after flashing.
And can I upgrade it putting in device storage, but not in external sd card?

Try factory reset, I have never heard that anyone else has had any problems like that with normal update.

This sounds dump but give it a try. Open screen and wait for it to automatically turn off. Then try again.

Then it's most likely hardware issue. If you think it's software issue, you can either try to find rollback updates or install TWRP custom recovery and see if some custom rom will give your screen some life.
My wifi/BT was completely broken once and I thought it was hardware issue(factory reset and re-install didn't fixed it), but after I wiped all basic partitions in TWRP and then did stock force update, it started working.
So, what now I need to do is TWRP recovery flash?

Depending on your question, the answer is either "You need to unlock bootloader." or "Yes".
