Hey guys, i have a samsung s5 australian edition (kltedv) thats been running cm14.1 for some time. Anyway, found a few bugs blah blah, decided it was time to flash Lineage OS onto my phone. Used their funky experiment dirty install technique, and upon restarting im bombarded with "google play services keeps stopping" messages, too many of them to even navigate the phone. So i thought, screw it, and I factory reseted the phone, wiped /system with TWRP, and clean installed Lineage OS with the latest OpenGAPPS 7.1 nougat micro. Upon reboot, BAM! instant google frameworks keeps stopping. Cant even set up my account. So i use an older version of 7.1 OpenGAPPS. same problem. wipe /sytem again and clean install resurrection remix OS with OpenGAPPS.
Im at my wits end, is there any sneaky tips to installing these nougat roms? Older CM14.1 roms were working fine, nothing new is.

Hello and welcome to XDA-developers!
The correct steps to do a clean install of LineageOS or any other custom ROM are:
1. Factory Reset
2. Wipe System, Data, Cache/Dalvik/Art
3. Flash ROM
4. Flash Gapps (Optional)
5. Reboot

I do not understand how to do what I want to do. I want to install the custom ROM LineageOS 14.1. Here's where I am stuck.
In trying to install the xt926/spyder 14.1 nightly build from 6.30.17 using ROM Manager, I get the following error message E3004: This package is for device: cdma_spyder; this device is xt926. It seems the error message states I am trying to install it on the wrong phone, so the install is aborted. But I do have an xt926 that I'm trying to install to. I posted on the Lineage site. I was told "don't use rom manager or clockworkmod they haven't been supported in years; also make sure you're using the latest TWRP for the correct device. The "this is device xxxx" is based on what the recovery says it is." I do not know which old TWRP I can use. In ROM Manager it states my current recovery is ClockworkMod 6.0.4.4. What's wrong with my recovery? The installer says I have an xt926, so why did it really fail? I'm wondering if I need the KKBL (KitKat bootloader), and the lack of that is why it really failed. If so, I do not understand from reading the posts how to get the KKBL. I read where I felt some were stating there was a small window to be able to get it and still root. I read about just flashing the BL, but then some said to never do that. Can someone please help me? TIA

Has anyone managed to get Lineage OS 14.1 working on the xt926? I was able to flash it through TWRP along with opengapps 7.1 and it boots but either System UI or Setup is constantly crashing meaning i'm unable to proceed past setup.

To get 14.1 working you need to use RSDLite to flash back to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087011677), then install TWRP for the Photon Q (https://twrp.me/devices/motorolaphotonq.html) then use the official nightly builds for the Photon Q posted on the Lineage website. Open Gapps ARM 7.1 nano works best for me.
That said, you won't be able to use your main mic for phone calls, only speakerphone. I have yet to find a rom/recovery/firmware combination that will allow fully functional phone calls with anything above 4.4. This isn't a problem for me as this is a toy without a sim card in it, what some people call a toilet phone. It sits in my bathroom vanity and comes out when I forget one of my main devices. Other than that I play with it once every few months to see how far the development community has pushed it.

I tried this last weekend but was getting constant force closes from System UI so i gave up and went back to the MokeeOS build.
Thanks @thunder2132. After fumbling about, I finally got this working:
- In TWRP, wiped cache, data & system
- Reflashed 4.1.2 factory image
- I used fastboot manually and followed the recipe in the XML file. The gpt and tz images can't be downgraded, and I did not wipe userdata [not wiping this was probably a mistake])
- Rebooted to system with sim card
- Powered off
- Booted into bootloader/fastboot and flashed TWRP
- `fastboot reboot-bootloader` (in an attempt to keep the phone from trying to boot into system again)
- Booted into TWRP, flashed LOS & OpenGApps Nano
- Tried to reboot into system and failed
- Booted into TWRP, "Format Data"
- Rebooted into system, waited, profited
Now I'd like to figure out why I can only use ADB over the network. >:| It doesn't show up at all over USB, neither in LOS nor TWRP.
PS: Later I wiped system, reflashed LOS, and flashed OpenGApps *Pico*. No issues yet.

Nice! I'm glad you got it working.
what do you mean with reflashed factory image 4.1.2?
I was on Resurrection Remix for the Razr M and now flashed LOS from this thread because of connectivity problems and I hoped it is a problem of RR. But unfortunately I still just have Edge connection, no 3G or 4G. Does anyone know how to fix that? There were no problems under 4.1.
Edit: I went back to 4.1.2 and wanted to start from zero but now on 4.1.2 there's only Edge connection as well :/
I have a Moto g3 (osprey) with Android 6.0.1 and CyanogenMod version 13.0-20160927-NIGHTLY-osprey.
Obviously previous owner did not keep up to date installing the received updates.
When I attempt to install the oldest update it does not complete successfully. I get the Android character with red in stomach
.Upon rebooting it does so to current version.
What would be the best way with fewest steps to bring this phone's cyanogenMod up to date?
Thanks in advance
Jerry
That version is almost a year old... and it sounds like you don't have TWRP installed.
Install TWRP via fastboot, download latest LOS ROM and gapps, start TWRP, wipe system and caches, flash ROM and gapps.
Be aware that such a large jump might require a clean install, meaning you need to wipe all your data and installed applications.
I have the following installed:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/8-0-0r3-lineageos-15-0-t3670670
Android: LineageOS 15.1 (8.1.0_r4) with latest magisk installed (15.3) with unofficial opengapps 8.1 mini package
When I try to downgrade to either Lineage 14.1 official or carbonrom 5.1 I am getting a boot loop at the oneplus logo. Restoring from backup to 8.1 resolves the issue.
1. factory reset
2. wipe system
3. Install Lineage 14.1 or carbonrom 5.1
4. Install recent opengapps mini package for 7.1.2
4. Reboot
The phone boot loops at the oneplus logo and I end up restoring from backup.
I have looked online and was struggling to find anything relevant. Some people report a new battery solved the issue but since It works when I restore from the backup It doesn't seem to be that. I do have a new battery on hand that I am eventually going to install though so I can do that.
Apologies if I am missing something obvious.

Try the following :
-uninstall magisk using uninstaller(available in magisk forum)
-clear system,data,cache,dalvik
-install only the rom with out gapps
if it boots properly then you can install the gapps later or else if u find flashing gapps is causing the bootloop then use an older version and double check the compatibility.
if still not just try out another nougat rom
Thanks for the suggestion.
I tried your steps with the latest stable slimrom 7.1.2, lineage 14.1 and carbonrom 5.1 and I am still seeing the same issue. I was able to clean install the lineage 15.1 beta I linked to though in addition to restoring my backup as I have done before. I might try to clean install a different 8.1 (AOSP for example) and see if that one works. This will help narrow down if the issue is caused by 8.1 in general or specifically something that the lineage 15.1 beta has done.
I had a similar problem when I flashed Sultan's LOS14.1. I fixed it by flashing down to stock using wugfresh's bacon root toolkit. Keep in mind though that this will wipe EVERYTHING on your phone. Hope it doesn't come to that. Best of luck!

This is what I ended up doing and it did the trick. Thank you for the suggestion.
I had the official Lineage 15.1 installed with gapps pico, it was upgraded from 14.1 lineage with gapps pico + magisk 16 . Today I wanted to downgrade back to 14.1 so I flashed the latest 14.1 lineage with gapps 7.1
After booting it shows com.android.phone has stopped working and it restarts again to show the same thing.
I am able to get into TWRP recovery , can anyone please suggest me what should I do?
I dont have previous backup

Always do a clean wipe (wipe everything except internal/external storage). Always back up your previous system just in case. Sometimes it is better to flash Gapps right after flashing the ROM, sometimes it's better to flash the ROM, boot and then flash the Gapps.
So, i have basically rooted the phone, flashed other versions of software or even similar types of software with no fix or help, i tried apks, i have tried gapps but all i get is error 70 and i cant find a way to install google services of any kinddddddd.

Have you tried the GMS Core apk?
About one year ago, I found a GMS Core available on Google Drive - https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B64ADSfC5LHbMHdlZ2ZONVhXVWM
But I am not sure that it is still available there and whether it will work for you.
Just for your reference.

It seems that you've tried a lot of things.
I assume you have successfully rooted the phone?
Which other versions of software are you speaking of? Custom ROMs or just apps that would take the place of Google Play?
Have you tried flashing MindTheGapps instead?
https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/8358p0
Otherwise unless you absolutely have to use stock ROM on the phone I would recommend LineageOS. I installed this on a Samsung Galaxy S5 Duos (not china version) myself a while ago and it works great.
Make sure you do a full backup of your phone in TWRP before you flash if you want to try this!
Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE Duos (China) (G9006W/8W) (kltechnduo) - LineageOS ROMs
LineageOs ROM Samsung Galaxy S5 Duos (China) (SM-G9006W, SM-G9008W, SM-G9009W) kltechnduo Official roms Download last nightly build (2022-12-23) (mirror EU).LineageOS 18.1 – [ Android 11.0 (Red Velvet Cake) ] [Recovery file (2022-12-23) (mirror EU)] Previous version (nightly) (2021-03-27)...
lineageosroms.com
For rooting LineageOS 18.1 you need Magisk
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v23.0/Magisk-v23.0.apk
This is how I did it:
FLASHING LineageOS 18.1 IN TWRP RECOVERY
Firstly Format Data (instead of a simple Wipe Data)
Then do an Advanced Wipe of Cache, Dalvik+Art Cache & System
** THIS STEP WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE OF ALL DATA **
Then flash LineageOS and MindTheGapps one after the other, in that order & in one go without restarting the phone!
Exit out of TWRP Recovery by rebooting into System.
FLASHING Magisk 23.0 IN TWRP RECOVERY
Download Magisk23.0.apk from official Magisk website and rename it to Magisk.zip.
Flash the Magisk.zip file.
Exit out of TWRP Recovery by rebooting into System.
On first boot after installing Magisk phone reboots on boot animation once.
Once phone is booted, start the Magisk app and allow it to install the full app.
I LEAVE NO GUARANTEES this will work for you so it's on your OWN responsibility if you choose to try it. I can only say it worked for me.
