Only APX mode and nothing else - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi everybody! I have a trouble: it tries to load TWRP a few seconds, then reboot and the same... Only APX mode is available and nothing else. Is there any ways to resurrect it?

If you can boot to fastboot, yes - you can save it. If not, you will need a new mainboard.
Let us know and we take it from there

I was tring to bring my TF700 to life through NvFlash.. Durnig downloading recovery.img, after 100%, my tablet started vibrating eternally and even time when I tape wheelie --blob blob.bin in SDK

You wrote that somewhere else and I don't understand it. You have your device specific nvflash blobs?? If you cannot get into fastboot, nvflash indeed would be your last chance BUT ONLY IF you generated your blobs when the tablet was still functioning. Did you?

Yes, I have generated my specific blobs before.. But something error has happened when I tried to revive tablet using them yesterday (it is described in previous post)

However, it starts vibrating now, when I enter command "wheelie --blob blob.bin"

I just had this problem with a Transformer 201Prime. The cycle went something like this..
Power on.... get ASUS logo in middle, Tegra3 logo on lower right, and bootloader unlocked in upper left....
then a buzz... then reboot.....
So I would try the power button and hold the volume down... that got me into the bootloader but when I hit the volume up button it would give me the TWRP logo... then buzz and reboot...
After much monkeying around... I realized I would have to re install everything. Fortunately I had the original NVFLASH bloob files backed up so I was able to get into the NVFLASH commands.
Here is a great tutorial, it is for the 201 so be sure to download the correct files but the steps are basicly the same.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tr...uide-tutorial-asus-transformer-prime-t3486237
The other problems is I had to download a bloob tool to 'unpack' the necessarry .bin and .ebt files that are mentioned in the commands... I used the following link to download the tool.
https://github.com/AndroidRoot/BlobTools
I hope this helps shake loose a few answers.
Once I was able to get a working recovery I could flash an updated ROM. (KatKiss is my current favorite)

[GUIDE] How-To: Get your recovery back!

(if anyone can, please change these to links. I'm not allowed to post links yet since I'm a new user)
First, download the froyo image from:
developer DOT nvidia DOT com SLASH tegra SLASH downloads
Then, download this and merge it with the folder that the Nvidia tools install to (you'll have to overwrite 2 files).
www DOT dropbox DOT com SLASH s SLASH wrcd87u1iy31u4e SLASH nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip
Download Clockwork Recovery, get the recovery.img file from the update.zip, rename it to clockwork.img, and move it into the Nvidia folder.
android DOT d3xt3r01 DOT tk SLASH cyanogen SLASH harmony SLASH root SLASH ClockworkMod_Gtab_v08.zip
Connect the G-Tab to your computer via USB and power it on while holding Vol - (NOT +!). The screen will go on for a few seconds then turn off. The tablet's not off, it's just in APX mode.
Go to Device Manager and install the drivers for it (they're in theNvidiaFolder\usbpcdriver).
Open a command prompt in the nvidia folder and enter "nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --download 9 clockwork.img"
It should do it's thing and if it goes fine, you'll get your recovery back!
You are the man!!!! I am back in business. I was on the right track, but you figured it out and I am a happy camper.
Anything you need, let me know (except girls, currency, drugs)
Quick question, Now that I have NVFlash setup and working, is there a simple way using NVFlash to take a snapshot of my Tablet so I have a backup image if I need to restore?

You could try this: http://tosh-ac100.wetpaint.com/page/Backup+and+Restore and just use bekit's bootloader.bin.

I'm a little confused. This says download the file, but overwrite two files?
I have downloaded and installed the first thing. Now i have downloaded the second file but not sure what to overwrite.
You need to unzip the files into the same directory. When you do it will ask you to overwrite 2files binloader is one of them
Ok, I know that I am missing something here. I have unzipped the "nvflash" file to this directory (C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\tegra_froyo_20101105).
I am never asked to overwrite anything. Is this the "NVIDIA tools" folder mentioned in post 1?
Sorry this is so hard for my small brain.
EDIT:Nevermind, I figured it out anyway. Thanks
I'm confused as what you mean by get your recovery back. Did you have a problem where it was overwritten?
No, for some reason it just goes away. Not sure why. When you hold power + "vol +", it should boot to recovery, but it just boots to CM.
Anyway, this was a lifesaver for sure today. Thanks for your help everyone!
Thanks, that helped a lot - works fine!
T.
I hate this tablet. I got the unit today and installed the OTA update and doing so i disabled clockword recovery. I followed these steps and got it to work from cmd and it went through the downloading process. My tablet is stuck on entering nvflash recovery mode. When i reboot and try the recovery it goes black again. I am positive I did it correctly and got the confirmation screen at the end of cmd.
I had the same issue... could not boot into recovery or the rom... right after installing clockwork .12
I had to take my unit back and get a new one...
What version of the clockworkMod image do you use to FLASH into the recovery Partition. I did not use the latest, You may need to try the 2.5.1.3 (That is what I used and it works).
Thanks!
ngorgi,
I just wanted to give you a big thanks... I had borked my g tab till I ran through your walkthrough.
Thank you so much!

Glad to see this actually helped a few people out
Now I may be wrong here (and if I am, PLEASE correct me), but I've come to the conclusion that this device is simply UNBRICKABLE. I've had my recovery disappear, had the magic value mismatch error, even had the device freeze in Nvflash mode where I had to wait for the batteries to drain before I could restart and I've been able to fix it EVERY TIME. Nvflash is too awesome.
FWIW, this is the only method that would work for me getting clockword to install on a fresh out of the box unit....I tried the sticky and it would show me the ! for a brief second and then reboot...
thanks!

I am not so sure. One of my GTablets will no longer boot. I have to use nvflash to boot it. Battery drain, reset button inside, nvflash stock rom, TnT-light...whatever, the tablet will not boot. Nvflash and format parition 2 and I can get it to proceed into booting. I can nvflash bekits recovery and install roms or kernels.....reboot or power off and it will not come up until I nvflash "force" it to boot.
So i am not so sure they are completely unbrickable...just hard to do so. Mine started with the magic value mismatch error.

How to flash clockwork recovery with nvflash-instructions here

same instructions now found in dev section
step 3--

Nice writeup. (Hit thanks) Don't really have any experience with nvflash, but most people say it's safer than cwm because if your stuck in a boot loop, you are screwed. So, my question is, (I came from the Vibrant), and we sometimes used what was called Odin to flash back to stock. Is this kind of like the same thing?
Great writeup, one minor addition perhaps. On XP, I had to keep the volume keys held while the recovery.img file was written to my device. If I removed the volume keys the bootloader failed to initialize.

It is, just without the convenient UI.
Another piece that may help people, I had to put my battery back into the device. So remove battery, hold volume keys while plugiging in USB, put battery back in. Without this last piece NVflash couldn't finish.
love that you made this. I ran into one problem. Not sure if this ia noob thing or just me, but can you add to your steps that you can only run one nvflash command at a time. after each command you have to unplug and replug in the USB cable. After i installed the driver and unplugged the phone, when i replugged in the phone i ran nvflash --sync to make sure the phone was plugged it ok. Once i just ran the recovery flash command after plunging in the phone it jumped to the software screen and all was fine. Thanks for the steps also to add your recovery link still doesn't work.
edit: I did not need to have the battery in and all for the recovery flash.

i've done this many times already, and on other devices in the past. with the g2x i never had the battery in the phone. but if that works for you, amen!
I noticed this is simalar to the instructions here .. Just a suggestion but I would give credit to the original poster.. I've been around android for a bit and this can cause some tension when people don't show appreciation.. Other then that I used your instructions to install recovery, it worked for me.. The only issue I had is you stated:
"step 3--
download clockwork recovery test2-- http://mirror.dal.tdrevolution.net/c...h-recovery.tgz . extract it.
in the extracted folder of cwm recovery test2, copy all the files except for test2.img and nvflash and put them in your nvflash folder."
I tried this and it kept failing install of img.. I had to put all files in my nvflash folder for it to work...

[Q] Loaded Wrong TWRP on TF300T and can only access APX mode

Hello,
I loaded the wrong version of TWRP on my TF300T. When it rebooted it loaded CM10.1 just fine. I then rebooted a second time in recovery mode and I have been stuck at the ASUS screen with the "device is unlocked" message. I am able to get into APX mode but my research has shown that mode doesn't do me any good if I haven't ran a nvflash backup. I am stuck and I would appreciate some advice or suggestions. I wonder what the factory reset fee would be from ASUS.
Thank you for your responses!
what version where you on? what version did you load that you think you shouldn't? Can you enter recovery mode? fastboot mode? I used fastboot to fix my recovery TWRP just can't find the thread I got my info from.
if your seeing the asus screen like you say I don't think it has anything to do with your recovery. I just went though fixing my mistake and breaking my install of TWRP 2.4.4 patched had to install 2.5 TWRP and when I restored my backup 2.4.4 was back and working again. anyway while the recovery was broken I could still run the stock rom that was installed at that time. I think if your on the asus screen your kernel has an issue.
I don't know where I read about issues like this but I know others have had em and recovered search or someone else should be able to point in a direction but have hope doesn't sound bricked yet.

Thanks for the speedy response =)
Version History: Stock 4.1 -> CM 10.1 Nightly 0503 or 0429. I had CWM on it before trying to load openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-ICS.blob using the terminal emulator method. I think I should have loaded the JB blob but the warning on the TWRP site said to use that if you ran the offical OTA update, which I never did so I stuck with the ICS. It installed fine, then rebooted into CM 10.1 just fine. I then rebooted from there into recovery and have been stuck at the ASUS screen since.
The Vol + - button keeps me in the ASUS screen. Reset button keeps me in the asus screen. Vol + + puts me in APX mode.
I try running fastboot in APX mode but it hangs stating "waiting for device" so I don't think it'll work in APX mode.
Thanks.

Am I looking at repair here?
If you send it in for repair, ASUS will charge you $198. I suggest you buy a replacement motherboard off of eBay and replace it with the one in your tablet. Also, to save other people's tablets from bricks, you may want to look into this petition.
if you get stuck in fastboot mode then there is a zip file I will find the thread again and it has cmd files that run the fastboot stuff. I was stuck not able to use fastboot commands and then the zip I found worked like a charm.
its a zip file called adb-t.. instructions where to put the twrp.blob in the folder and the update in my case 10.6.1.15.3.zip and it flashed it even though i couldn't manually do it. really wish I could find that thread but I don't have my laptop right now

I put it on that screen while connected to laptop ran the recovery flash and all went well installing TWRP 2.5 which I then recovered my backup and that even restored my 2.4.4 patch TWRP like nothing happened at all. tablet runs great and have made 3 backups that work after all this.
Good luck

Power up your tablet while holding down the Vol- button, then wait until a menu appears on your tablet. Within 10 seconds, hit the Vol- button.
On your computer, run "fastboot devices". If it finds your tablet, then download the correct recovery (http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf300t/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob), copy it to your fastboot directory, then flash it using:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob

I tried running through your tread but none of the commands worked on the script. Probably because I can't get fastboot to work. When it tries to load a recovery it just states: "waiting for device" and sits there. =/

Thanks for the info. I am unable to get fastboot to recognize the device. The only way the PC recognizes it is via APX mode. Download mode just sits there at the ASUS screen and windows doesn't see any devices.
Still no love. Am I bleeding out the battery correctly? I am just running the boot screen until it dies then I try to power it on again.
I popped the back open today to see how difficult it would be to replace the mobo, doesn't look too bad. Just having difficulty finding a good online guide.
Also, just so I have the terminology straight, when the tf300t goes into a "boot loop" does it ever leave the asus screen and go black or does it just hang? Mine never goes black, just sits at the ASUS screen with "the device is unlocked" message. The only time I can get it to leave this screen is when I do a reboot and hold the + sign. then it goes black and APX is detected on windows.
Just wasn't sure if any of that information was useful.

Ok,
Tried disconnecting the mobo, no love. Ordered a new one for 75$ on ebay. Replaced the mobo and now the volume button doesn't work. Checked all the ribbon cables and they're snug. Probably broke something but I can't find what, so I am thinking of sucking that up. I can control volume with the settings. The only downfall is without a volume button I can't enter the boot loader, so no rooting/ cwm.
Least I'm back in business for now! And another positive is the mobo I received was 32 gig storage so it's like I got an upgrade... with a broken volume button =)

Usually, the volume button does not fail. Remember the volume button connects to, but is NOT part of the mother board. If it feels stuck when you push it, that's because you snapped the back cover in wrong. You need to slide it in at the corner where the buttons (volume & power) are, then pop in the rest of it. Take it out and do it again.

[Q] No fastboot anymore, only XDA Mode possible,

Hello Friends and first I have to say sorry for my english.
OK, I try to tell whats happend.
2 Days ago I would like to flash a new rom on tf700t. For that it was neccessary to change from TeamWinRecovery to ClockworkModRecovery.
To do this at the easiest way, I have done this Job with the Rom Manager App.
That was my first error.
After Installing I reboot my tf700 and was surprised, TeamWin was still there...
Ok I have created a full backup, after that I performed a full wipe.
After that I have rebootet again, but know TeamWin was not there anymore, Clockworkmod was also not not there.
Booting with Power + Vol Down Fastboot mode is starting (I think so) 3 Symbols in the Middle.
Starting RCK Mode, but nothing happens, only a text left above, Recovey Rom is loading (or somthing like that)
Booting with Power + Vol Up APX Mode is running. Black Screen and Pong on my PC. Nvidia Driver installed.
OK later, verry late at night I have by mistake Used The Wipe Button, I dont wont to do that but I have pressed the wrong button.
Now the follow things happend by Booting.
Only Presss Power:
Tab is starting to Asus Logo in the middle, in the left corner abowe The Device Is Unlockes. Nothing else happens.
Press and hold Power and Vol down: The same like above No Pong on PC, the same screen like starting the tab normaly.
Press and hold Power and Vol up: APX Mode ist starting.
I have many Full Backups TWRP.
I have the Stock Asus Rum on SD Card.
I have the nvflash Package for my tf700t.
I have the flatlinetf700t.img
And many other files.
Oh I dont have createt bevor any blop files.
What I will ask you is: Is it possible to repair the Tab by using nvflash?
I think the bootloader is defect...
What is needed for that

Not without the blobs.
"Wipe data" + broken recovery + no blobs for nvflash = hard brick. There is no known fix.
Is it possible tu use blob files from an other tf700t 64gb??
I have here a original asus tf700 Stock rom, wich I have full extracted twice. So now I have the rom as a blob file wich was in the zip. 800 MB.
What can I do with that file?
Here I found something to use the android toolkit but it cant work, there is no fastboot mode anymore. If I try to use fastboot, power and Vol down, nothing happens, there is no device installed at pc, only in adb mode, but android toolkit could not handle adb mode.
Read
Last hope is to use some other blob files..
Whats about RMA? Prices for that job?
Thanks.

You need the blob files from your device. They store keys particular to yours. When you started the nvflash process it sounds like you never completed it. That means you have no means of recovering.
List the files you have.
RMA will set you back between 200 to 300 dollars but ask Asus for a quote. You might be better off selling it for parts and getting something newer.
What I have is all from here, means the nvflash files for my tf700t.
I also have the original asus stock rom for my device and some other roms, twrp backups and so on...
The most is not usable while there is no fastboot / adb mode possible.
I have never read something about some blob files needed for other devices...
I dont understand what for blob files I need to bring recovery back. Thats all I want to have.
I tried to flash via nvflash the stock asus extracted till to a blob file. I remember nvflash wrote than somewhat like, no blob files found...
Maybe its really time to say goodby to this ....

If you followed the instructions on that page including the wheelie part to extract and save your blobs then your device is salvageable. The question is did you?
If yes you can use this guide to restore.

If no, sell the device for parts as it is dead.
Thanks again.
I have asked Asus for Support and I post again after an answer from asus.
**** happens. That with the strongly recommed to do to make this device bricksave has to be placed on every first sites about this Thing.
Are there more devices who needs those files (means blobs)

Get a used motherboard on Ebay and replace it yourself. Sure to revive your darn tab for much less. What is it an Asus technician can do that you can't? It ain't rocket science after all. Go to this site and learn how to take it apart.
I dont know, what asus can do...
I have now looked many days for a mainboard for my device. Only 32GB Version are listet by ebay.
Maybe I have to wait...

Asus will do nothing other than charge you hundreds of dollars to replace the main board.

Since you are giving up and looking for a new mother board, you can PM and we could try a few different things to see if we could wake it up... If you have some spare time to waste then you could give it a shot, hahaha....

Failed to flash stock image (maybe full bricked?)

Hi all,
Today I tried to flash an older version of the stock rom (v1.2.1) and thought I didn't need to flash userdata.img. That was a big mistake..
Now the tablet stuck at a bootloop. After that I thought I could simply flash twrp over the bootloader to peform a /cache & /data wipe so that I can fix the bootloop.
And now we come to the other BIG problem. I can't access the bootloader. It directly boots up the tablet with the Nvidia logo. Is there any solution to fix the tablet?
I tried at the bootloop to enter via adb into the bootloader but my PC isn't recognize my device (probably no usb debugging).
There is no way to rescue it? No apx drivers out there?
Your message seems to be unclear about one very important thing:
1. Are you able to successfully access the bootloader? I don't mean your custom recovery. I mean the black screen with very small font words with your serial and shows whether your bootloader is Locked or Unlocked.
From where I'm sitting, it looks like you flashed v1.2.1 without using "flash -w", as well as forgetting to flash ALL the stock img files. Next, it looks like you're expecting a direct boot into the bootloader, which is not possible. You need to hold down the Vol_down button and then hold the Power button until the screen comes on, THEN you need to let go of the Power BUT KEEP HOLDING the Vol_down. If done correctly, you should be at the bootloader.
From the bootloader, you will not be able to run adb commands. Instead, the bootloader takes "fastboot" commands. All this is assuming you've installed the latest nVidia Shield Family drivers from the nvidia gameworks download site.

Thanks for your answering. I flashed all .imgs, the blob file and the .dtb file . Everything but not the userdata.img. I can't access the bootloader with holding down the vol down + power button. I only can access the apx mode with power + vol up.

I notice in your sig that you do in fact seem to have a fully working new replacement tablet. That got me thinking along the following:
1. new tablet is fully functional, old one is not
2. both tablets have the same hardware spec
3. pull firmware from new one, and somehow get it onto the old one
4. hopefully old tablet should work!
The biggest problem is step 3... I only know of nvflash that might be able to help here, but I've never used it myself so I'm completely useless here. Maybe someone more knowledgeable could help out here, but otherwise it seems like you might be out of options.
If you do want to take a stab at nvflash yourself, THIS PAGE has a nice writeup of what some commands do, BUT BEWARE! It's not for our device, so don't just copy-paste commands! As long as you're not writing things to the new tablet, it couldn't hurt to try stuff, right?
It wish someone could help me with NvFlash because I have no knowledge with it.
So it's possible to make a copy of the system of my working tablet and flash it on my old tablet with NvFlash?
I hope someone helpful with NvFlash experience could help me out.
Btw I need to have an un-blob'd stock rom version to get it back alive? Afaik is there no public version.
NVflash is only useful if you have backed up using it BEFORE you brick it.

I have a replacement tablet. I could make a backup from it and use it with my bricked tablet. Do you know how this could work? (As I said I don't have experience with Nvflash yet.)

No the blobs are specific to the device.

Okay. So it seems that there is no way to rescue it. Btw is there no accessible bootloader in OTA 1.2.1 because I flashed the boot.img without any error and I don't understand why I can't access it.

Indeed - I was just talking about nvflash use in general. I haven't seen it used since tegra 3.
