Debrand from FRD-AL00 to FRD-L09 and update to Nougat. - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

As some of you might know, I recently bought FRD-AL00 variant of this amazing phone. For those who doesn't know, this is Chinese variant with 4GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Its European equivalent is FRD-L09 and from same rationale, FRD-AL10 and FRD-L19 are equivalents but it has 64GB of internal storage.
I bought it at AliExpress and it came flashed with FRD-L19C432B131 (wrong firmware). The phone were really unstable, it was rebooting very often, specially when I played videos on YouTube or when phone was under heavy load (low memory and many apps opened).
My first try: Debrand to right EU version (FRD-L09). I did it doing standard procedures: Unlock bootloader/TWRP/Root/Debrand/Flash (FRD-L09C432B131). I followed these tutorials:
** WARNING: Backup your data cause this procedure wipes everything. **
** Do it at your own risk **
1) Unlock bootloader/Install TWRP/Root:
Followed this procedure: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-unlock-bootloader-tested-root-t3443946
1.1) For this step I ran DCUnlocker because I coudn't get my unlock code from Huawei
1.2) Warning: Pay attention and install right version of TWRP, there are two links to download
1.3) Flash superSU
1.3.1) Download SuperSU
1.3.2) Flash it through TWRP
1.3.2.1) Power off and then press volume up + power (unplug USB)
1.3.2.2) Press "Install", select SuperSU ZIP and flash it. Now you're root
2) Debrand using SRKTool
Followed steps in this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZVsIKtdgV4&t=310s
2.1) I skipped step to change build.prop, cause right after debrand I reflashed new ROM
2.2) Warning: Don't forget to enable USB debugging, grant access to your computer and grant access to SRKTool actions in SuperSU (it will ask for permission when SRK tries to change something). Make sure SuperSU is running
2.3) After reboot, just power off your phone and move to next step
3) Flash EU ROM
3.1) Make sure you copied ROM FRD-AL09C432B131 and unziped at folder dload on your SDCard
3.2) Press Volume UP + Volume Down + Power
3.3) At this point, your phone might enter in Huawei's recovery mode and start flashing new ROM. It takes about 5 ~ 10 minutes
Now. I realized even "right" ROM for similar model were still unstable. Actually nothing has changed. My next attempt: Nougat!
4) Update to Nougat
This step were simpler. Just execute Charles method and it works seamsless:
Charles Method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69885525&postcount=11
Other responses for different variants: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/various-responses-charles-app-b360-t3541342
In my case (FRD-L09C432B131), the response I used was:
Code:
{
"status": "0",
"autoPollingCycle": "1",
"components": [{
"name": "FRD-L09C432B360",
"version": "FRD-L09C432B360",

"url": "http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G753/g104/v73856/f1/"
}]
}
PS: did not lost any data on this upgrade but backup, just to make sure you won't loose anything.
Finally...
Now, phone is running FRD-L09C432B360 and seems to be very stable.

I bought the phone AL00 with Noagat on board same as author wrote, but my experience was not good with it, same symptoms as in beginning of this post... After my trying to update to newer Noagat ROM, it was downloaded, flashed and phone could not boot.
So i had to made return to emui 4.1 by using rollback ROM and 3 buttons method. Same unstable work, i finished with going back to AL00 brand and ROM, now it works good, anyway AL00 ROMS multilingual and it is not hard to install all google environment on this ROM...

I have non of complaints on phone, exept i live in Serbia, and my mobile carrier is Telenor. LTE800 frequency on 4G its not supported on FRD-AL00. Only that....

[Q] Huawei Honor H60-L12 ROM - Software Install Failed!

Hi all,
I bought a H60-L12, but the manufacturer had installed the H60-L02 rom (version H60-L02V100R001CHNC00B611).
How can I install the H60-L12 version?
I've already tried to install these 5 ROMS:
H60-L12_EMUI3.0_Android4.4_V100R001CHNC00B307
H60-L12_EMUI3.0_Android4.4_V100R001CHNC00B611
H60-L12-4-4-V100R001CHNC00B118-unicom-32g
H60-L12-4-4-V100R001CHNC00B119-High-unicom
H60-L12-V100R001CHNC00B121
But I always get the error "Software Install Failed!" with the volume + & - & power method.
Also tried with the *#*#2846579#*#* and didn't worked as well.
Tried to install different stock versions and nothing.
What should I do more?
Regards,
Luis

From huawei club forum, which posted by Chinese, they provided a "middle package" for H60-L02/L12, L01/L03/L11/L21:
Link for refer: http://club.huawei.com/thread-4744481-1-1.html

荣耀6联通版(H60-L02/L12)
We have to download it, then do upgrade it first before upgrade ROM version.
P/S: If you cannot extract it, may need rename it from chinese name to latin letter.
If need assist in Chinese word, let me know.
Hope this help.

Hi all, I'm new of the forum, and this seems to be exactly the same issue I'm having.
I had to buy a replacement for my H60-L12 and I decided to buy a new one, so I went to the same store and I ordered the same phone.
When it arrived, the label indicate H60-L12, bon on the box and on the back of the phone. But when I switched on, the model name and the serial number indicated the H60-L02.
What is really strange is that, according to what I have been seeing on technical specification on internet, the L02 should have 16GB di memory, while this one has 32GB.
Do you have any idea if it is possible to verify from the IMEI what is the real model of the phone and if it is possible that a L02 firmware version was installed on a L12? I have the B316, I have tried to dowload the B316 for the L12 and put it on the dload folder, then local update, but it fails (probabily because it is the same version?).
I have download the H60-L02/L12 file indicated in the previous post, but it is very small. Is it ok?
After I have installed it using the local update procedure, what should I do?
Thanks!
I will share my experience with this issue.
As it turned out, my L12 was flashed with the wrong firmware and seens as a L02.
No way to restore the correct version with any more or less standard procedure (not even copying the built and prop files from the L12, the upgrad was always failing).
So, for future reference, what I did was:
- use the unbrick function to load a EMUI2.3 version of the firmware (at this point the phone was almost unusable because everything was crashing)
- copied the L12 B316 on the SD in dload directory
- installed using the three button procedure
The upgrade was correctly executed and now everything is working fine.
In case someone was wondering why I didn't use the unbrick function to load the L12 B316, the answer is: I did it, but it was not working. As I said, it seems that the unbrick function leaves a lot of the previous installation behind, and despite the load of the B313 (yes, I tried the 313 to be able to update then to 316 with the complete update package and have a clean installation), the update package was downloaded but not installed, always giving error. Same with the three button procedure.
So, the only way I found has been to revert to 2.3 and then apply the update.
Now I would like to know who flashed the L02 on my L12 and made me loose four days

First flash, need help!

Hello Everyone,
a friend brought me a Mate 8 from China and I want to switch from the AL10 version to an international one to get rid of the chinese base and to reintroduce google play and other apps to the phone. I simply dont speak chinese, you know?
The details:
Found Phone : HUAWEI NXT-AL10
Firmware : NXT-C00B197
I managed to unlock bootloader, get a twrp on in and to install SuperUser. The last two was difficult and I used the SRK tool from sonboons.
My first issue - I never could tick the function "unlock OEM" or so, because it is simply not shown in the "Developer Options". Is it ok to ignore that?
My second issue - Which Roms should I load onto my SDCard before wiping and installing them? When I look through the forums it always says something like "Before you flash this, go flash Version B1xx and then B3xx. Which Roms exactly need I flash in order to get from my B197 to a stock rom with google apps or a customized rom where I have google apps, minor optimazations and no bloatware?
If you have suggestions, you have my unlimited gratitude

NXT-C900B180 to NXT-L29C432B330 easily

Since a lot of weeks and a lot of bricks I’ve tested this solution. You don’t need an unlocked bootloader or rooted phone, you just have to pay 15€.
Before testing be sure you have the full firmware of your phone to go back if you need so.
You need :
DC-Phoenix
full firmware NXT-L29432B320
15 € credit for www.dc-unlocker.com
You will first use :
DC Phoenix New Account (it costs 15 euros for 15 credits to use for 72h after initial flash (small price to pay compared to sending to repair shop or having a useless brick)
An UPDATE.APP at your choice for your phone (AL10 or L29, both are interchangeable) -
This file with partition rework and factory firmware -*DOWNLOAD*
1. Make sure you have at least 30% of battery.
2. Open DC Phoenix and login with your credentials.
3. Put your phone in fastboot mode (Vol. - + Power).
4. Select «fastboot mode» in DC Phoenix and then go to the «IMG FILES» tab.
5. Select the «NXT-AL10_M00A102_Factory_firmware_Global_Nonspecific_A ndroid_6.0_EMUI_4.0» file and hit Open.
6. Click on «Update» and be patient. This should take 10 minutes.
7. Follow the log on the left. When it says «writing success», reboot your phone (Vol. - and Power until display goes off). The phone should normally boot into a Chinese-like ROM.
This would install a factory firmware, erase all data and re-partition your phone, after that you would be able to install a new ROM.
My phone was mate 8 DL00 3/32Go and was with NXT-C900B180, no update OTA.
8. Put your phone back in fastboot mode and select the «APP FILES» tab in DC Phoenix.
9. Select your UPDATE.APP, from the zip file you've downloaded, and hit Update. Be patient. This may take up to 20 minutes.
10. Again, look at the log for «writing success» line and then reboot your phone.
Now my phone is NXT-L29C432B320 and a new update is immediately available NXT-L29C432B330
Big thanks to djmitza222 who posted THE tuto to unbrick mate 8.
I was looking for a trick to change my international ROM by european one, I’ve tested his post and work's with a full firmware ROM. :silly:
If your phone is bricked see djmitza222's tuto

All seem's to be :good:

Yes I'm sure zip contains NXT-L29C432B320, perhaps you must change oeminfo before, to be EU.
I've done this and after, unroot and install zip file with dc-phoenix.

Yes there is a guide (google is your friend ), but after you have unlocked and rooted your phone you just have to use SrkTools and change oeminfo.
See this tuto : How to switch to use stock firmware from other models
at SrkTool prompt use menu 7 and 9, choose mate 8 and eu ( 432 )
Some time you need to do reset factory default after changing oeminfo, just check after modification like test below.
I think your phone don't have vendor info, when you use this code *#*#2846579#*#* and network information query / vendor country info
If all is good you must see :
Vendor Country Info
Vendor: hw
Country: eu
Have a nice day

I think it's possible but you must Choose factory firmware for your phone in phoenix data base :
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/huawei-android-phone-flashing-factory-image
After flashing the factory firmware, all would be erase on your phone (exept oeminf and IMEI, so you must unlock your bootloader, root your phone and change country with SrkTools) and you should flash full firmware for L09 with the country you would like to have.
Flash a firmware just before the new one ( for exemple if the latest is B560 take the full B330 or 320), so you should test if OTA update works fine.
I've only tried the tuto at the top of the thread.
man i did this with dc phoenix and changed my phone from NXT-C900B180 to NXT-L29C432B330 and after i got nougat b581 and i updated and have nougat now my problem is that my bootloader locked again and the previous bootloader code deosnt work my s/n changed from the original one from the box to 123456789ABCEF and in huawei site says when i want to get new bootloader code s/n and imei missmatch also dc unlocker gets bootloader error when i press read bootloader code and with original sn code works but gives me the same and because phone has different s/n says code is not corrent when i try to unlock it via fastboot

Sorry, I don't know what is happening.
My bootloader was unlocked and after the upgrade with DC Phoenix it was already unlocked.
I've found this :
u can fix it using the HCU tool to repair or reinstate serial/imei but you have to have that information at hand..once done repairing you can proceed to read the bootloader code using the same tool..at fastboot, the phone may already show that bootloader unlocked but all you have to do is unlocking the bootloader again using code received from HCU tool, via fastboot oem unlock XXX.

Successfully rebranding Chinese COL-AL10 to European COL-L29: report

Dear community,
I recently bought a Honor 10 (AL-10 C00) with 6GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory from China. Since I did not want to use Chinese apps and some of these were really resistant to my attempts to remove them (like the voice search attached to the home button), I researched xda-developers quite extensively for ways to rebrand the phone to a European version (more precisely, L29 C432). In particular, I read the tutorials made for "related" models such as P10, P20, Mate 10, Honor 9, and HonorView 10.
In detail, my plan was to move from firmware COL-AL10 8.1.0.139 (C00GT) to firmware COL-L29 8.1.0.131 (C432), noting that the L29 firmware had a somewhat lower version number than the AL10 but was the most recent available at the time of trying the rebranding. My concern was therefore that the rebranding might brick the phone similarly to what was observed on the Mate 10 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/discussion-hard-brick-infos-t3789044). Fortunately, the xloader-check tool from https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/beware-bla-l29c432b147-t3817241 displayed "02 XLOADER" for both firmwares, so I decided to proceed.
I obtained all firmware files using HuaweiFirmwareFinder (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teammt.gmanrainy.huaweifirmwarefinder), paying attention to the fact that only full OTAs can be used for the branding. In the following description, I used 3 ZIP archives containing the L29 8.1.0.131 software, renamed to match the scheme "update.zip, update_data_public.zip and update_all_hw.zip".
My first attempt was to imitate the approach from the tutorial https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20/how-to/rebrand-huawei-p20-eml-l29-eml-l09-t3779283 made for the P20. I followed the procedure with the following exceptions:
- Magisk and TWRP were already on the phone thanks to the tutorials from the Honor 10 section.
- I took the nocheck-recovery for the View 10 instead of the one for the P20, more precisely I installed "recovery_ramdisk_BKL-L04_nocheck.img" from https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho.../recovery-bkl-nocheck-recovery-flash-t3778085.
- In Step 17, I said ./oeminfo COL-L29 C432 hw/eu
(By the way, the oeminfo binary is a great tool that allows you to change only the relevant portions of your oeminfo partition related to model number etc. It keeps things such as IMEI intact, so that the bootloader unlock code does not change by the rebranding, contrary to FunkyHuawei's procedure, as it seems.)
After booting to nocheck-recovery, an EMUI update screen was shown and slowly counting up, but after a while an error message of the kind "Installation failed" popped up and forced me to make a factory reset. Still, the bootloader was unlocked afterwards and I could reflash TWRP. The state of the phone now was that it had rebranded oeminfo, an unlocked bootloader, a working TWRP but no real operating system.
The second and final attempt was to use HuRUpdater (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279). I rebooted to Recovery, placed the 3 ZIP files and the HuRUpdater ZIP in the top directory of the internal memory (accessed via USB), chose "Install" with respect to the HuRUpdater ZIP, waited some minutes and saw the phone rebooting to EMUI 8.1 with many preinstalled Google apps. Success.
I think it should have been possible to skip the step using nocheck-recovery that failed anyway, provided that the oeminfo binary is executed from TWRP before flashing via HuRUpdater. Any further information would be helpful.
This morning, the firmware update COL-L29 8.1.0.143 (C432) arrived. I downloaded the full OTA and installed it via HuRUpdater as described above. The phone runs very smoothly so far. A scrreenshot of the "About phone" page is attached. Note the 6GB RAM that comes from the Chinese version.
I am happy to answer questions and would like to read more about your experiences with rebranding the Honor 10.

Correct. I received the code from Huawei before they stopped handing out the unlock codes. At the moment, I do not know of any alternatives.

Hey, thanks a lot for this thread!
Soo I am about to maybe do the same as you did – would you suggest/think that just doing the second Part will do the trick for me?
Can't really tell if the first part contained something that's relevant for the second/final part to work.
Furthermore – did you encounter any issues yet, now that you've used the eu rom for a bit?
(And does your device show up as certified within the Play Store?)
Oh and of what I understood, you'll have to do OTA Updates manually?
Thanks again for the effort!
Hi,
if I were you, I would try only the "second part" involving HuRUpdater, but would make sure that the oeminfo partition is modified before HuRUpdater is called. What about the following:
1. You copy the zip files belonging to the update along with the oeminfo binary to the top of the sdcard
2. You boot into TWRP recovery and start a terminal. There you say:
mkdir /data/local/tmp
cp /sdcard/oeminfo /data/local/tmp
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod +x oeminfo
./oeminfo COL-L29 C432 hw/eu
3. You "install" the HuRUpdater zip from within TWRP.
If it fails, maybe make a factory reset and try again. Re-flashing TWRP might become necessary.
Regarding your questions: I have not experienced any issues with the EU ROM yet. The device passes Safetynet and is shown as certified in PlayStore (possibly thanks to Magisk, which I installed from TWRP, did not test it without). Magisk and TWRP are also the reason why I have to update manually. Huawei ROMs seem to deny OTA updates when a custom recovery and/or root are detected.

Great. I can assure you that without magisk but stock recovery it passes safety net as well.

Hi OP,
Is it possible if you could post a step to step procedure how you rebranded your phone. I have tried what you said but it turned my phone into a "beta" firmware with model number of "FTY-L29". Very weird. I have have missed something along the way now that I can't undo. If you could please help me out. Thank you very much.

I was in COL-AL10 like yours as well because I bought it from 3rd party site. Now I'm just waiting for someone to post a proper procedure of how to undo or install new firmware over the existing one. Soo I just managed to rebrand my col-al10 to col-l29 (will share my whole experience soon).
But now it says my device is uncertified in the Play store (said so before Magisk & TWRP were installed and still says so, now that I've installed both and Magisk says SafetyNet is passed).
Any suggestions?

Hey, no I can't - and I am pretty sure it's because of the uncertified status in Google Play.
I think so because when trying to add my mastercard for contactless payment as described in my Google Pay thread, it doesn't work either but this time it's a different error message.

I need to rollback (Honor 8), HELP!

I have a seemingly stupid but still annoying problem. As many of you know Android 8 + EMUI 8 came out this summer and I have updated my Honor8. Everything works well, even better (especially with regard to the battery) apart from a problem, quite annoying. I have seen that everyone around complains about the same problem, so it is clear that both a build bug and not a local problem.
Basically ... the bluetooth link with the multimedia system of my car doesn't work as it should, while it worked well with the 7.0.
Tracknames, music infos disappears, sometimes it connects regularly, starting the music, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes the music passes from the car speakers to smartphone (!!)... in short, manage the music in the car It has become a big problem!
I tried all possible options; reset pairing, reset bluetooth, clear cache, activate the developer options to control some low-level aspects of bluetooth, and finally installed Bluetooth Auto Connect which also has several advanced options. Nothing works. In the meantime an update of 8.0 has been released (mine is the buiold 521). The update came out in September ... maybe (MAYBE) this update fixes all bluetooth issues (but i don't have any detailed info about). Until today I have not received any updates and normally I check new version regularly every day. At this point I decided to return to Nougat!
And here the adventure begins!
I CANNOT IN ANY WAY do the downgrade.
What I tried:
- through HiSuite. The "back to previous version" option appears random (rarely); normally the program tells me "the system is up to date". Once appeared I tried to run the procedure, but after the decompression it gives me an error "error updating".
- by standard Rollback procedure. Using a microSD and putting the full version of Nougate in the dload folder. The installation starts but stops almost immediately with the same "update cannot be applied" error.
At this point I am desperate. I cannot update Oreo, I can't go back to Nougat and meanwhile the bluetooth still doesn't work with my car. Remember that before Oreo, everything worked very well!
What can I do? Can you help me?
Thank you

Previous Build: don't remember. It was Nougat, and I've upgraded around the first week of September. From that day I haven't received/applied any patch, because nothing appears until now.
This morning I've tried again with HiSuite. As usual it says I'm running the latest version and it doesn't offer any downgrade option .

Finally I've decide to try updating to 8.0.0.562. After a month of tries, fails (damn Huawei and his stupid update system), errors and a lot of other stupid things, I was finally able to update my Honor hoping the latest version will fix all the problems. It was a enormous waste of time (searching around internet)... but in the end I found a method described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/help/p20-pro-bricked-t3868085#4And if you go ahead you should find the correct firmware link (on a Russian site). Although, IMHO, failing with the classic method was due to the impossibility or some bugs in the update system, to unpack the update files on sdcard. So the solution seems to be to leave both the zip and the unpacked folder. The problems with bluetooth remain, but I hope that now there is not to be crazy applying next updates. ATTENTION: the method above is NOT valid for rollback! If you try, you'll brick your Honor.
And finally I've taken an important decision... for me this is the last Huawei/honor device. Next time I'll go to another brand, with a serious update system.
