B378 rollout - Huawei P9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just FYI, I just got B378 pushed on System Update (was on C432B361 before), if anyone else wants to check for updates. Not sure what changes there are yet, changelog was same as B361, so presumably bug fixes from B360/1

Where are you from? I'm from Bulgaria and I'm running B360.

I was on C432 with B361. It was OTA so might not be a patch for 360 yet.
Hasn't fixed Device Policy anyway ?. Still can't sign into work Google Apps account without complaints that the device is unencrypted.

As I already said twice: I was on B361.
As someone who flashed it yesterday noted, it includes Duo preinstalled.

Yep just got it myself, check updates . I'm from UK.

Did you updated to android 7 from android 6 via OTA? I'm also in UK and I'm still waiting for an OTA (I've been told through HiCare that the latest version for my phone is C432B182 and that they're still working on a version of android 7 for it).
I got my P9 through Amazon and when it arrived, it came with the European version of the charger, not the UK version. Could that be the reason? That even if I'm located in UK, my P9 is not the one officially sold in UK?

Here is the official change log for B378:
This update optimizes system performance and stability, and fixes an issue where some UI elements were displayed incorrectly.
[Optimizations]
Decreases power consumption to prolong usage time.
Improves system performance and stability for smoother operations.
Optimizes the display in the status bar and notification panel, which now displays notifications more clearly.
Integrates Google security patches for improved system security.
[Fixes]
Fixes an issue where call durations were not displayed in the call log.

Got the notification too.
Since I have TWRP and root what would I have to do to update exactly?
-Flash stock boot.img
-Flash stock recovery
correct?

I'm assuming this doesn't work for a L09C436 phone on B150??

Did that following the instructions on other thread (I think they are exactly the same you've posted, I'm talking by heart here) and after every finishing Ok and being updated to B361, when the phone rebooted into the new version, the version reported on the about section or the update tool was a test version, not B361. Since that was not what I wanted, I downgraded back to B182.
That's why I was asking if he got the update through OTA.
Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk

I updated to B361 from B360 via dload. After that B378 popped up in system update.
After the update everything is working fine.

My P9 which I bought from O2 UK, is not showing any updates. Whether I go thru the EMUI Update or the HiCare App!

If your P9 is branded then you should wait the O2 updates or better take a look to this manual http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=1262626 (I don't know if there is some manual in xda in english)
I'm just updating to B378 now

@osrogon I know. I found the instructions in one thread and copied them to my pc.. They stayed there for a while since I was afraid to flash anything until I was sure I wont brick the phone No idea why it hasnt worked for you.

I got it yesterday OTA on my C432 in Italy.
Anyway, although the changelog mentions battery optimizations, I feel power and memory management is worse than B361. Battery seems to drain faster. Anyone can confirm?

One thing i noted is that phone is much more snappy afterward. maybe it's because of the cache rebuild that every build do or maybe there is some secret ingredient added in this update.
Very surprised to see another update from AT&T for the G2. I wonder if there's any chance of seeing 5.1.1 or 6.0.
Does this mess with root?

You can't update with root, at least I haven't been able to.
When updating it will just kick you back to the home screen with a message telling you, you're suspected of rooting and updates are not supported for rooted devices.
I also tried the method discribed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g2/general/links-manually-forcing-ota-20c-to-20u-t2828874 to force an update but I was unable to succeed
I'm waiting for dlpkgfile to update
How does one make this file root friendly? Wouldn't mind taking the time to do this.

i think thats the answer for no 5.1.1 i dont see why leave g2 at lollipop if its has bugs.. since they fix the stagefright on 5.1.1. so we need it 5.1.1 to get rid of this bug but aparently with this update theres no need to update to 5.1.1 but does this still have the memory leak bug?

here is a link to the dlpkgfile from my LG G2, but if you have root you cannot update through either the normal OTA method or by using the root adb command method described in

The last command appears to force a package on the phone to start the update process without (or possibly after) a check for root, however when I run the command the nothing appears to happen making me think that the original Lollipop update(30f) either nerfed the command to prevent this kind of thing from happening, or they replaced the package with a new one for the 5.x iterations of Android. so it is a matter of waiting for people smarter than me to find out how to force the updates in the Lollipop update
TL;DR: yup I agree with you
Is there no way to unroot, install this update and then root again?
Negative

As far as I know you can't unroot a device. The way I'm doing it is reinstalling the original KK, then going trough the process of updating till the lastest update then rooting again.
I do hope someone could come up with way to install the latest update on rooted.
That did come to my mind but I felt it's just too much of a pain going that far back for a patch!

[TUTORIAL]How to update EVA-L09C636 (Asia-Pacific) model to B361 (EMUI 5)

I had been searching for a way to update my EVA-L09C636 (Asia-Pacific) model to EMUI 5.0. During the previous month I tried to install EVA-L09C636B361 firmware via either dload and Huawei Updater, but such means of direct installation never worked out.
Now the problem is solved, and the solution is quite simple, though a little bit unexpected: using Huawei Updater to install EVA-L19C636B190 before installing EVA-L09's own B361 firmware. I mean, it is interesting that we have to "borrow" the B190 firmware from the Dual SIM L19 model in order to update to EMUI 5.
(I'm not the first person to find the solution. I just found out that in a Taiwanese forum a tutorial is already posted. )
So there are two steps to install B361:
1.
Install EVA-L19C636B190 via Huawei Updater
Use Custom ROM URL
Copy and paste the link to EVA-L19C636B190:
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1079/g104/v64578/f1/
Use the HiSuite on PC to finish the installation of B190 (Set its proxy to 127.0.0.1 and the port to 41279)
2.
Repeat the previous process, but this time, replace the link with the one to EVA-L09C636B361:
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1256/g104/v73928/f1/
Again, use the HiSuite to finish the installation of B361
Note that the C636B190 version firmware for L19 model does run on L09 without the support of the L09-exclusive NFC. I think there should be a thread discussing this. Anyways, before official update comes out, the two steps above seem to be the only way to install EMUI 5 on the Asia-Pacific EVA-L09C636 version without losing data.
That is interesting, I dont have a C636 but I would assume just doing step 2 without the need to flash a L19B636 would do the trick.

I was searching for this for months. I bought my p9 EVA-L09C636 in the US (I'm european) and I never had the chance to update, even at 4.1.1. I went crazy because I tried several times to unlock the bootloader first, installing twrp and flashing updates but with no success. It's unbelievable that I need to fake the version with huawei updater to obtain the updates for my phone. Now I've Nougat, without factory reset, with everything working, from nfc to all stock apps and services. Thank you very much

Need Help
My model is Huawei P9 EVA-L09C636
I tried to update like this, it's started updating and got an error while updating then phone rebooted with new update,
but there's lot of errors,
Built Number displays as - NRD90M test-keys
Updater missing in settings
Camera missing
Flash Light not working
Clock missing
File Manger missing
and few more default huawei apps missing.
How do I fix it or downgrade to previous version back?
Thanks finally I was able to update my P9 to Nougat using this steps. The only difference is that there is a EVA-L09C636B190 available now so i didnt have to use the version for any other cell, I was afraid to do it. So following this steps i was able to upgrade from 168 to 190 and finally to 361 version.
My Phone is Huawei P9 EVA-L09C636
Even though my phone is L09 I've flashed L19 by following the steps on this thread -

it's still NRD90M test-keys. but i'm cool with it.
Works on AL00 as well?
I was wondering if I can get the most current european rom on my AL00 with that method as well?
Holy cow thank you for this tutorial.
I spent six hours following every tutorial I could find on the web and my P9 staunchly refused to install ANY update from the very next one after the one it came with all the way up to the latest!
After hours and hours of trying this method is the one that worked.
Edit: This firmware is a developer build.
There have been several updates installed since it was released.
After you this firmware it you should immediately install Huawei Firmware Finder from the Play Store and install the latest full OTA.
The developer build changes the device ID of your phone so you have to manually add the model of your phone in Firmware Finder as:
EVA-L19C636
Otherwise Firmware Finder would tell you there are no firmwares available for your model.
If you can't install the latest OTA immediately after installing this firmware, first install the next one available (38 if I recall correctly) then install the latest OTA -- 38 will say it failed to install but it actually installs just fine, then install the latest full OTA.
That will give you all the bug fixes and the security patches from Google.
Also note that this firmware works on both the dual sim and single sim models (it's built for the single sim but my device is dual sim and the sim configuration in settings works).

The build number is normal.
As for the disappearing apps, it sounds like you have faulty flash storage.
That will cause files and apps to randomly disappear.

I need to rollback (Honor 8), HELP!

I have a seemingly stupid but still annoying problem. As many of you know Android 8 + EMUI 8 came out this summer and I have updated my Honor8. Everything works well, even better (especially with regard to the battery) apart from a problem, quite annoying. I have seen that everyone around complains about the same problem, so it is clear that both a build bug and not a local problem.
Basically ... the bluetooth link with the multimedia system of my car doesn't work as it should, while it worked well with the 7.0.
Tracknames, music infos disappears, sometimes it connects regularly, starting the music, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes the music passes from the car speakers to smartphone (!!)... in short, manage the music in the car It has become a big problem!
I tried all possible options; reset pairing, reset bluetooth, clear cache, activate the developer options to control some low-level aspects of bluetooth, and finally installed Bluetooth Auto Connect which also has several advanced options. Nothing works. In the meantime an update of 8.0 has been released (mine is the buiold 521). The update came out in September ... maybe (MAYBE) this update fixes all bluetooth issues (but i don't have any detailed info about). Until today I have not received any updates and normally I check new version regularly every day. At this point I decided to return to Nougat!
And here the adventure begins!
I CANNOT IN ANY WAY do the downgrade.
What I tried:
- through HiSuite. The "back to previous version" option appears random (rarely); normally the program tells me "the system is up to date". Once appeared I tried to run the procedure, but after the decompression it gives me an error "error updating".
- by standard Rollback procedure. Using a microSD and putting the full version of Nougate in the dload folder. The installation starts but stops almost immediately with the same "update cannot be applied" error.
At this point I am desperate. I cannot update Oreo, I can't go back to Nougat and meanwhile the bluetooth still doesn't work with my car. Remember that before Oreo, everything worked very well!
What can I do? Can you help me?
Thank you

Region: EU
Model: FRD-L09
Build: 8.0.0.521 (C432)
Previous Build: don't remember. It was Nougat, and I've upgraded around the first week of September. From that day I haven't received/applied any patch, because nothing appears until now.
This morning I've tried again with HiSuite. As usual it says I'm running the latest version and it doesn't offer any downgrade option .

Finally I've decide to try updating to 8.0.0.562. After a month of tries, fails (damn Huawei and his stupid update system), errors and a lot of other stupid things, I was finally able to update my Honor hoping the latest version will fix all the problems. It was a enormous waste of time (searching around internet)... but in the end I found a method described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/help/p20-pro-bricked-t3868085#4And if you go ahead you should find the correct firmware link (on a Russian site). Although, IMHO, failing with the classic method was due to the impossibility or some bugs in the update system, to unpack the update files on sdcard. So the solution seems to be to leave both the zip and the unpacked folder. The problems with bluetooth remain, but I hope that now there is not to be crazy applying next updates. ATTENTION: the method above is NOT valid for rollback! If you try, you'll brick your Honor.
And finally I've taken an important decision... for me this is the last Huawei/honor device. Next time I'll go to another brand, with a serious update system.
Hello,

[GUIDE] HSTool for upgrading firmware of BL locked Huawei View 20 [LATEST FW: 248]

Ty to the folks over at the Honor Mate 20 Pro forum especially @mikeos we are now able to update our Honor View 20 to all available firmwares up to 9.1.0.248
Warning: Do not use this method to upgrade to Android 10, it will brick the device and there are currently no ways to unbrick!

This means if IMEI is not approved for installation in a certain region SafetyNet might fail, so make sure to enable "Show Only FUll-OTA and Show packages for current region" in FF settings to reduce the risk of flashing a firmware for a other region.
Would people that do not have PCT-L29C432 model please leave there model here so i can add them, many thanks!
Note that if your BL is unlocked, this method will lock it!
People without USB adapter can also use this method to upgrade to approved region firmware updates but make sure only to use Full OTA packages!

What Firmware have you Downloaded with Firmware Finder? I use http://update.dbankcdn.com/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G4552/g1755/v281097/f1/full/changelog_base.xml
http://update.dbankcdn.com/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G4552/g1755/v281097/f1/full//update_full_base.zip
But after flashing and booting in Recovery it stops at 5% with an error and restarts the Phone
Is app launch speed difference relevant with the improvement they made?

Is the SafetyNet check based solely on IMEI? I noticed you mentioned that your IMEI was not approved but SafetyNet was still fine after the update but I'm not sure about risking my own device.
My device is also a PCT-L29 C432, checking firmware access on FF for PCT-LGRP2-OVS 9.1.0.229 FULLOTA_MF says that the firmware is "not approved", so presumably I'm in the same situation.

No it's not really the IMEI but the device fingerprint, the device firmware needs to be Certified in order to pass. Sometimes certain firmwares are builded for internal testing with other fingerprints (Not approved by google), if you have the same device and and planning to go to 9.1.0.229 I cannot think of any reason why you would not pass saftynet. PCT-L29 C432 + PCT-LGRP2-OVS 9.1.0.229 FULLOTA_MF firmware is "not approved" for installation but you will pass saftynet. However if we would force flash a firmware from a other region well that might change things.
There is a setting in FF to only show packages for the current region, those should be fine.

Nevermind, I did two things and I don't know which one fixed my issue, I disabled my Antivirus and moved my "Documents" folder into its original location "C:"
Update is done.

Ota will work once the newer firmware gets approved for your region, otherwise using this method is an alternative method.

drm/widevine.zip patches for ab is not needed to flash?
I didn't have time to look if it was necessary. The patch is only needed if the version of emui9 you are using has a preavs partition. You can see it if you capture a logcat log with adb. If so I would make a drm patch with the correct version of the drm files for stf-l09
I have finally had the chance to fully implement it, and I'm here to give you the feedback!
Generally speaking, it can be considered a stable build and can be used on your main device. However, there's always room for improvement and the following areas should be revised:
1- The included "Android System WebView" is too old to work, rendering synchronizing with Google accounts impossible. The workaround is easy, however, as the updated versions can be downloaded from the Play store. The same applies to: "Phone", "Contacts", "Messaging" and "Browser" apps.
2- The "Search" box in the Home screen is impossible to remove.
3- The "Navigation bar inverse" option in "Phh Treble Settings -> Misc features" doesn't work, even after re-selecting navbar mode, as specified.
4- The "Adaptive Brightness" option results in more brightness than needed, where it has to be manually lowered. The cause might be related to incorrect readings from the phone's sensors, on the software side.
5- Not a problem, but rather a suggestion: More customizations in general, and in the "Status bar" specifically, can make the ROM more appealing.
Additionally, the instructions above for flashing the ROM are good enough, but it's worth adding that the bootloader of the target phone has to be unlocked first The instructions to achieve that are likely included in the "Honor 9 Guides, News, & Discussion" forum.
Keep up the great work

Yep, that's what I did.
However, the small downside to that is the extra memory usage. Besides that, no launcher really bests the baked-in one in smoothness, but again, that's minor.

Sadly I still didn't managed to do it... I can't downgrade from android 9 to 8 :/ In the past i had that option, but now it's just gone...
I tried dload method with SDCard, but it fails every time. I guess that dload method only works to upgrade and not to downgrade?
If you have some tips to help me downgrade it let me know please
Hello AltairFR,
I've got a Honor 9 in quite good state, and I wanted to upgrade it to most current version before using it (I'm no real geek, set up and then "never touch a running system" is rather me).
I started with unlocking bootloader with DC-unlocker, successfully.
I installed and used adb and fastboot utils.
Then I attempted to install TWRP according to this manual https://romprovider.com/honor-9-dev-support/
As far as I understand, the trick consists of two parts, 1) proper version of TWRP (not easy to find one for Honor 9!), and 2) patched kernel to avoid restore of stock recovery, so TWRP persists.
Unfortunately I failed. After I performed all the steps, the phone got to a bootloop (booted, restarted, booted, restarted, ...)
That version of TWRP never started, it just showed the logo and hung. Patched kernel was no success either because
stock recovery is back. The only way I can resurrect TWRP is to perform factory reset in stock recovery. Then next start is TWRP, and afterwards again just bootloop and stock recovery.
Then I found and installed a working version of TWRP here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/twrp-ish-twrp-3-2-1-for-honor-9-running-gsi-8-1-roms.3818442/
Then I attempted Android 10 according to https://theupgradeguide.com/install-android-10-on-honor-9-aosp-gsi-treble-rom-how-to-guide/
This was most successful attempt so far, except it was only installed w/o GApps and Antroid reported "There is an internal problem in your device. Please contact your manufacturer." <- not really useable.
Then I tried your Android 13 build. I installed it the way you recommend (fastboot). I got "Invalid sparse file format at header magi" and something about "device reported max upload size of" about 400MB. Nevertheless, it completed kind of successfully. But this Android never started up. It's starting and then reboots. Both with GApps and without.
I assumed the reason could be that patched Kernel I installed at the beginning. I inspected my versions with "Multi-Tool for Huawei and Honor" and found Firmware version = STF-L09 8.0.0.368(C432) Your prerequisites are
ROM Kernel: Stock kernelROM Firmware Required: EMUI 9.1My EMUI is not reported by "Multi-Tool" at all, although in the video guide it's shown. (Perhaps because I don't have any EMUI at all anymore. As far as I understood, it's a Huawei version of "look-and-feel" on Android).
So now my question, how did you manage to get EMUI 9.1 ?
I searched for stock firmware to restore my phone to at least original state. I found https://huaweistockrom.com/honor-9-stf-l09 which refers to EMUI 9.1 in file name Huawei_Honor_9_STF-L09_9.1.0.210_C43 ... .0.0_R3_EMUI9.1.0_05014NMA_Dload.zip
But the free download site is not available, and it's a bit risky to go for paid one without knowing the archive file contains what it sais.
Hence my question, how did you manage to get your EMUI 9.1 ? My pretty much last hope is, if I get to that version of stock software then your Android 13 build hopefully installs successfully too.
Thank you in advance.
Hello. I think you've complicated yourself. The procedure is much simpler, you just need to flash the right twrp and then install LeaOS. I look on my stf the version of emui that I have. I will answer you later

Here is the way https://romprovider.com/unlock-bootloader-huawei/
I paid 4.31 EUR (4 credits).

Thank you, I found the site in the meantime. The latest version there is C432B130 while mine is B368. (Is it the reason why patched Kernel B366 silently failed to install?..)

It worked, thank you.
> For stock ROM download a old EMUI 9.1 ROM and update it with hisuite or stock system huawei OTA. Don't flash kernel
I'm too far away from HiSuite yet.
I managed to start installation of stock firmware from SD card. "Installing EMUI" after 5% progress breaks with "Software install failed, reboot system now" :-/
In TWRP file manager I see a couple of directories were created on SD card [perhaps by installation routine, who else] with "android" in their names, and a couple of files. Just a couple of, not more.

Btw have a question about device. I have bootloader unlocked years ago now, i had code but lost in a virus attack. Found that potato method that worked for honor 8. My question is if i flash those service firmwares to oreo or pie bootloader will relock? In 8 it did. Is there any way to flash oreo and pie roms without having to flash firmwares? If the only way is test point to get unlock code i'll do that when battery will die or smth like that.
