[Guide] a number of tips to enable google services in edi-al10 model - Miscellaneous Android Development

the honor 8 note is targeted at mainland china customers.
the main issue with this phone is that in china google is frowned upon.
the western customer must perform some customization to get the honor to
play nicely with google services.
happily this is feasible without getting root access.
only using some conventional means.
I have purchased 2 honor 8 note devices.
one gold colored device was purchased from amazon.
this one included google play store - very convenient.
the second (a silver colored device) was purchased second hand from a friend.
the silver colored device was the pure chinese version.
more of a challenge.
the first step - sideload google play store into the silver device.
the gold device had the play store pre-installed so I didn't need to do anything.
the second step -
download a very nice contacts app "fullcontact" from the play store.
this app knows how to sync google contacts and is not dependent on
system services. it also has a beneficial effect on chrome.
chrome's bookmarks started to sync smoothly.
this is all.

[Q] Google Play crashes at start on chinese tablet

Hello, community! I recently bought a Chinese tablet and one of the first things I did was to install Google Play and Google Play Services via apk, I also added my Google account. The problem is that after loading for a while it says: 'The application Google Play Store has closed unexpectedly'. The amazing thing is that it pops up a notification that there are updates for my apps! Also the tablet shows up in my Google account as a device. The other applications that require Google Play services (like youtube and google now) run fine. My firmware version is 4.1.1. Also the download manager IS enabled. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

This means that you have purchased a chinese style software configuration tablet. Thanks to encouragement by ccp policies towards google, many manufacturers (would you believe i have in my hands a samsung note 8 that does the same thing!) have stripped out the play store in favor of other alternatives. For me, i am going to root and flash this tablet and forget default aoftware is even something that exists.....

[Q] Spoof OnePlus One as Nexus 6 or 5

I would like to purchase Manual Camera app with my Google Play Store credits, but it's not yet compatible with OPO and hence Google won't allow purchasing the app. (I'm willing to purchase, assuming the app will be compatible with OPO in future)
I have tired to edit the build.prop file by changing the model, brand and manufacturer to Nexus 6, google and Motorola respectively. The playstore identified my device as Nexus 6 after reboot. However the app was still incompatible in playstore.
Even tried the Market Helper app. But it FC when applying the settings.
My store credits are expiring today. Any way to make the purchase happen?
Thanks!

Concerns over pre-installed Google Services on Mate 30 (Lzplay, Chat Partner etc)

I bought a Mate 30 and a MatePad Pro that had pre-installed GMS/Google Services on AliExpress. I was a little bit naive but after reading some articles regarding LZplay, I realised the potential dangers of these apps that installed GMS being a device administrator.
I've uninstalled the app, but now I'm worried about the potential of anything already baked into my Google Play Services. Am I being too overly cautious, or should I just reset the device and go to alternative routes instead (Aptoide, Aurora Store)?

Google Play store in Canada

Hey everyone, haven't been on the forums for a long time, anyway i bought a Fire 10 2019 and i went through the process of installing google play store on the device. The Play Store icon shows up, but when i press login nothing happens. I have used the Toolbox V12.0 to try it. The google icon won't open at all but the play store will open, and like i said, it will not let me login. I remember reading a review on amazon.ca and the person who wrote it said the Canadian version of the tablet was like wearing handcuffs compared to the American version. When i ran the toolbox the first few apk's failed. Any suggestions?
You can use a VPN app.
Another Candian here. I've got an HD 10 and the Play Store works without a problem.
The biggest issue with the Canadian Fire vs American is that various built-in services do not function, such as Alexa. (You can use it to control other Alexa-enabled devices, but the assistant portion does not work while it works fine in the US) I ended up installing Google Assistant to fill the role you'd think Alexa would take on an Amazon product.

Sorry i took so long to reply. I did end up getting it to work. Is the Canadian version really as bad compared to the American version as the person who left the review says it is?

Question ARCore on Pixel 7 Pro?

I'm researching my next phone purchase, and the Pixel 7 Pro is on my "top 3" list (along with the S22 Ultra and Z Fold 4).
I was shocked to discover that the Pixel 7 Pro, Google's flagship (and Premiere Developer Alpha-Phone) apparently doesn't support ARCore. WTF?!?
Did Google pull a "Google" and decide to just unceremoniously walk away from it?
Did they just give it a new name?
Is it officially "coming soon", but for whatever reason didn't make it in time for Launch Day itself?
Weirdly, searching Google for "ARcore" AND "Pixel 7" site:google.com turns up a bunch of results whose summaries on the result page seemingly mention ARCore... but the actual pages don't have anything that a brute-force browser string-search for "ARCore" on the page can find, and for whatever reason, those particular pages don't allow viewing the cached copy of the originally-indexed page, so it looks like Google went back and scrubbed the pages after they were indexed (which is itself kind of weird, because you'd assume that Google's OWN pages would literally be indexed up to the minute at all times).
Seems they don't call this ARCore anymore. My Pixel 7 Pro has an app installed called "Google Play Services for AR" which in the description states: "This service was previously known as ARCore." I tested it by installing a sample ARCore measuring app from Google Play and it worked as expected.
ARCore works perfectly. Google Maps has working AR-Features like Live view and apps like ARCore Depth Lab work.
( This is the play store link to AR: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.ar.core which is also installed on my Pixel 7 )
