Are you saying if I install this version without CSC file that it will create*a new CSC? Also, what do you mean by "Limited Functionality"?*Does the watch not function the same after loading this*firmware? Can I install Samsung Pay if I install this?
Samsung Pay preinstalled in each version, in addition to this course.
CSC region is determined by the watch on the MNC code that is connected to the phone at the time of initialization.
Put USA or Singapore SIM + VPN + Fake GPS does not bring any results.
So flash this on a korean import and initialize it with a phone on Singapore network will update the CSC and enable Spay?

wondering the same..
Btw.
rootfs.img contains su in bin folder:
/bin/su
So it is rooted. :good:
This Firmware is very interesting also for Mobile Z-series...
Like SM-Z130H, Z3, Z2 etc...
As Combination Files are most not free available...
I have not much Gear expirience nor Gear Watch in my Hands...
So no idea if allready Root solution exists... for Gear S3
Rooting for Z-series was very easy... valid su file/binary inject into rootfs.img...
Best Regards
@se47 who gave you this. Its an internal build. Anyways good job with the availability, hope you don't get shackled for this. When you talk about @locks which locks are you referring to hardware side or the software side.
Internet is full of Combination files...
But most they are not for free available...
Gear series Firmware is generally rare leaked...
If you use Google and search for key word:
Combination file...
You can find many sites... like this:
http://www.gsm-file.com/news/frimware-amp-combination-file-smr760-samsung-gear-s3-frontier-50.html
http://www.easy-firmware.com/index.php?a=browse&b=category&id=18298
http://gsm-firmware.com/index.php?a=browse&b=category&id=3976
Thank you very much se47 for sharing free. :good:
This is my first Tizen Combination Firmware. And helped me a lot to understand what it is...
Research for Mobile Z-series.
Best Regards
i just checked my archived files, I had this firmware but wasnt allowed to post until leaked. As mentioned above its a good alternative to who ever is looking into rooting the device and installing android 2.0 .

Do you mean it would be possible to install Android Wear 2.0?
I am not sure to understand the meaning of 'Combination Firmware'
As the firmware is already rooted its possible to run elevates commands and install custom recovery.

I don't know much about rom development so please don't mind my ignorance but wouldn't we need an android wear kernel for Exynos 7270 to run it on gear s3?
That is correct.

In your previous post you sounded like rooting is enough to get AW installed so I thought I should ask. I was hoping you would say no tho. I really would like to see android on this watch. Seems it's not gonna happen soon.
Porting android is not hard if we have the right tools and the right information. Having root just opens up the possibilty for the developers to port. As you can see in the other forums the devs are working on getting a root on APK7 firmware, if succesful we can then look at other possibilities of installing a custom recovery or porting it from previous gear builds. Hope this helps.
any updates on whether this will enable S-Pay?
Has anyone flashed this? If it truly is rooted then we can start building custom recovery/boot images. If someone else can confirm for me that this works I will test it out as well...
Btw.
Inside system-data.img is:
device-profile.xml
Code:
/home/developer
Compared with SM-Z130H Combination file...
1:1 same
No idea if this only work if DUID is erased...
If it work, this would be very powerfull file...
Only as info.
Best Regards
Edit 1.
Attached...
NOT tested... maybe it require erased DUID... Factory DUID...
Need confirmation...
If this Combination package is on device...
Option for WiFi Odin is still possible?
Or WiFi is disabled?
And USB cable is mandatory?
In param.bin I saw some Flag...
And I have no idea at the moment, for what...
Something seems diabled...
0x00 instead 0xFF
MI for MIDDLE Debug Mode is clear to me...
It is instead LO for LOW...
Best Regards
Please, need info/confirmation.
If Combination Firmware writes older sboot Bootloader aka downgrade...
This should be possible to test with SDB and this Command:
Code:
cat /proc/cmdline
Thanx in advance.

Ok these steps are very important but before anything I also have to thank Lyriquidperfection & Ausdim for setting up their important parts of the instructions inside the links below:
So before you flash anything, or start playing with your gem, follow these important steps below to get all the important parts backed up and safe, so that you will not have to return your device back to samsung broken. Believe me I have seen it happen PLENTY of times in this forum, so read carefully
Make sure you have a Good USB cable and a stable PC and that don't get any power outages or surges, you dont want to be half way through something and you loose power or get a bad connection.
1st: Install Samsung Kies on your PC this will then Install the Samsung USB drivers you will need to connect your device to your PC OR you can get the samsung drivers on there own from the Link in 2nd step, but I recommend you install kies as it may be useful to you in the future.
2nd: Now as your IMEI number is like the heart of your device lets back it up right now: Follow only part of these steps in this link, you will finish the rest of the backups at the end when your rooted. I have copied and bolded the parts you will need to do right now, once finished this section of the backup you should be left with a *.qcn file which is roughly around 250kb of size.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33048706&postcount=1
*Setting up QPST with your PC:*
*Backing Up IMEI / NV Data:*
*Restore USB Settings after Backup / Restore:*
Now keep that page open because you will return here in step 6 once you are rooted to complete the backup process.
3rd: Now Install Odin V3.04 - You can get the link for odin in the 4th step link, So you may aswell just continue on to 4th step as the instructions inside that link advice you to install Odin aswell.
4th: Now you must Root your device and install CWM recovery , Follow these steps carefully > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32235061&postcount=1
5th: Once you have root I recommend you instantly make a full backup of your device also known as a Nandroid backup. You must go into recovery mode to do this with the CWM recovery you have just installed in 4th step above. (In recovery mode just click backup/restore and then choose backup, after its done your backup will be placed on your ext sd card , if you dont have ext sd card then choose backup onto internal sd card.)
6th Now lets finish the backup process since we are now rooted, I am going to say this again, this is VERY important incase something goes wrong and you loose your Imei and Data, you need to back it all up. By doing this it will save you returning your device back to samsung like many have done previously because they have not done this, Remember where you left off in 2nd step above? Well now you can go back and complete the partition backup of the efs folders. You should be left with 4 backup files for this final section of the backup process >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33048706&postcount=1
--------====FINISHED====--------
Congratulations you now have your Imei/Nv data backed up , You are rooted and Nandroided. Now you can play around but off-course DO NOT be reckless make sure you know what you are playing with
Peace
PS: Only trust what you see in this I9305 XDA forum, as i have been following the device from day one and I can only recommend the information you see here.
can't find step 4..
Sorry I just fixed all the links
stuck on whether to install the I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5 software and what I risk
EDIT: thread Readers please note. I was a NOOB and I initially and accidentally credited "Lyriquidperfection" (who has also been very considerate in assisting) for the thread when "btemtd" was the original thread creator. "btemtd", I have edited to show appropriate. I am sorry please forgive my oversight.
**
Dear "btemtd"
*Note the following pre-install procedures and verifications confirmed:
1) My phone is NOT bricked and is running stock OEM i9305 installed software with details for the device posted at the end of this reply.
2) prior to doing ANYTHING I verified I can Dial *#7284# on phone and can see the 'Qualcomm USB Settings' button
3) KIES drivers installed and i9305 to PC works in KIES application and drag and drop modes
4) I have downloaded the Param_Bin_I9305.tar.md5 file in case I need it.
5) I have downloaded the I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5 file for use when I install the CWM.
6) I have downloaded the CWM-SuperSU-v0.96 application but have not yet installed it and have not yet learned about how to operate it (I will study and follow your instructions prior to doing so)
7) I have read this entire thread and all replies.
8) I have also read the entire thread and all replies to: [WARNING! + GUIDE] Backup and Restore IMEI / NV Data Procedure for GT-I9305
9) I don’t care about losing any of the media or pictures or applications (whatsapp) installed on my phone as these can all be reinstalled later on.
I have successfully executed the following so far:
1) I installed QPST v2.7.378 program on my PC and backed up a .qcn file. I then restored the .qcn file back to the i9305 and it accepted the restoration without problem. I can see my IMEI number by dialing Dial *#06#
2) I DID NOT back up any of these files below because I was NOT rooted and I DO NOT have a terminal emulator application (I can learn the emulator application if it is necessary and if someone can provide a link to where to get it). IF it is required for me to back up these files PRIOR to proceeding using ODIN please direct me to do so. I would prefer to not have to learn the emulator program unless it is required.

m9kefs2 - Located at: '/dev/block/mmcblk0p5'
m9kefs3 - Located at: '/dev/block/mmcblk0p6'
3) I installed ODIN version Odin3 v3.04 (but I still have no clue how to operate this software)
*
This is where I stopped. Why? Well, after reading the instructions "btemtd"provided in thread I became concerned. My primary objective is to first save a backup of my phone. Since I am such a noob I don’t even know what a backup file extension is named (for example a backup for PC might be named xxxxx.img). I suspect that the backup extension file might be named xxxxx.tar.md5 but I still don’t know.
*
As I read "btemtd"instructions further I became concerned about the following items:
1) "btemtd"states in the In the 4th that one should “Now you must Root your device and install CWM recovery”. Well, since I am still such a noob I don’t know how I should root my device. Ideally, I want to make a backup of my phone (I think that will eventually be called a “nandroid”) as quickly as possible so if I inadvertently damage something during an install I will have an original source file to revert to (and hopefully be able to restore). I have a few questions:
A) Is there a special “rooting” software I should be using it or is “rooting” just a process name (like “flashing” a drive for example)? It might help me if I could have some noob instruction on how to root an i9305 without bricking it.
B) If I “root” my phone at this stage (without having made any backups other than the xxxx.qcn file) do I risk bricking my phone and not being able to revert to the stock OEM i9305 software?
2) Another area of concern was as follows. "btemtd"advocates installing the CWM (I presume that is short for clockwork module) application and provides a hyperlink for it (which I read). In this instruction it advocates downloading the file named “I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5”. This is where things get a little murky and hence the advance questions (which hopefully will help other noobs beyond myself and allow "btemtd"to concentrate on the i9305 problems I couldn’t solve in a lifetime). My critical question is as follows: IF I follow the instructions that "btemtd" hyperlinked to (these instructions were posted by senior member “ausdim”) and IF I install the CWM (install via ODIN) file named “I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5” WILL I be replacing my stock i9305 OEM software with this new one created as “I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5”? Could you please apprise on this instruction (remember, my first goal is to make a full backup of my existing stock i9305 OEM software on the i9305 so that I can restore if I late noobify any of the instructions). I want to confirm that by proceeding with the procedures kindly laid out by audsim I will NOT be wiping out my OEM software on the i9305 supplied when the phone was new. IF the answer to that question is “YES, you will be essentially replacing the stock OEM software for the i9305” with the new one created under “I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5.”” then I might have to consider the implications of losing all of the factory OEM software that came on the phone. Please note that I am hoping that this procedure will result in the phone OS changing from:
FROM: stock OEM i9305 software
TO: stock OEM i9305 software + CWM module
*
This post is lengthy, yes, but I hope accurate and hopefully it will provide some clearance, comfort, or guidance to other noobs looking to backup their phone prior to risk bricking it on more risky adventures.
Thanks in advance and donations to "btemtd" for his hard and thankful efforts.

First of all I am the one who made this guide with all the links to the appropriate places, You cannot see this? LOL
Anyways.... You asked
" Is there a special “rooting” software I should be using it or is “rooting” just a process name (like “flashing” a drive for example)? It might help me if I could have some noob instruction on how to root an i9305 without bricking it.
B) If I “root” my phone at this stage (without having made any backups other than the xxxx.qcn file) do I risk bricking my phone and not being able to revert to the stock OEM i9305 software?"
A)There is no special rooting software, its basically a file which you flash onto your phone which gives you the root access. If you follow the instructions 100% and nothing on your side fails well then you should not brick your device, reason people brick is becuase they have done the wrong thing or have flashed the wrong thing or it could be bad flash files. But I can confirm none of these files are bad as they have all been used with success.
B) we would hope that the qcn is enough, but maybe not. Only because we have not seen it happen yet, everyone who has lost imei so far has made the mistake and not made any type of backup, But lyriquid says JUST TO MAKE SURE you should also backup those partitions after u root just incase it comes to the point where you need them.
You want a Noob instruction on how to root without bricking it? ummmm What the hell is that! LOL Mate this guide is almost as NOOB as it gets, and OF COURSE if you follow this guide and all the links you wont brick it.
Reason you want root is this will then allow you to further back up the partitions and also allow you to make a nandroid (FULL BACKUP) of your current software/ROM
Only way to do this FULL BACKUP is by having CWM installed:
CWM is NOT firmware it is only recovery module, CWM will only replace your stock recovery module it is Only 7mb. it will NOT replace your stock firmware. Also this recovery module has much more capabilities then your stock recovery. It will also allow you to flash Mods, tweaks, roms if you wish to do so in the future.
Even if you do all of this you can still even return it back to OEM with stock recovery firmware and UNROOT. anything is possible. So my recommendations if you want to start flashing software and want to backup your rom is to follow my steps fully in this thread and click on the links and follow those guides as well. Each link will guide you as well. Once you have root and CWM installed and you want to make a FULL BACKUP of your OEM Softwareall you need to do is boot into recovery mode, then choose Backup/restore and then >>> Backup Thats it very simple which is why i didn't include it in the thread because as soon as you go into recovery mode you will be able to figure it out yourself
By the end of all this procedure you will have
Rooted Stock OEM software + CWM REcovery
EDIT: I reccomend you do what the full guide says, and install a terminal emulator because you dont need to learn code Lyriquidperfection has written down exactly what you type inside the terminal and thats IT your done. Its that easy!!!
For now you type the commands anyway. I am working on updating EFS Pro to have Qualcomm support so you can back up all NV Items from there and also backup and restore other important partitions just with a few clicks. I'll keep everyone updated when something good enough for a beta develops.

Thanks btemtd, great post!
I am also a recent convert (from iphone) to a galaxy s3 and have an i9305T model. I have been doing a bit of research in order to prepare myself to safely root my phone and was stoked to see such a helpful post. I will admit that I am also a noob with this sort of stuff but still do my best to learn what I can.
I just wanted to confirm that the process you have listed will support my aforementioned phone model with telstra as the carrier? I only ask because I remember a previous rooting guide that was only applicable to Optus phones and just want to make sure.
Thanks again for your help
Yes this will work on all i9305 models. No probs bro i was starting to get amazed on how many ppl were flashing the wrong stuff and braking there imei lol so i thought this may come handy

Sorry about this post. Misread something between steps 4 and 5.
Now fully rooted. Thanks for the great post. Very helpful to someone entirely new to this daunting process. Makes jailbreaking a walk in the park xD

"btemtd" Thanks for you above tutorial.
Is it possible to add and process on how to unroot the GT-i9305, if required

FOR NOOBS only
This is written by a noob for other noobs. It contains a set of very detailed instructions and is compilation of varies inputs from lyriquidperfection, audsim, btemtd, and nnnevvv. Without them I would be nowhere. I hope this guide, despite being very detailed, can help others so they don't have to hunt and pester devs for answer. This guide is only an expansion and extrapolation of this post which was kindly created by btemtd.
*
It also involves other work from the developers I credited above.
*
This guide is NOT for you if you have:
1) Bricked your phone
2) have an i9300
3) lost your IMEI
4) installed a custom ROM
5) already have CWM or SU installed.
*
Please remember it is only an expanded set of instructions built upon btemtd original work. Its only intention is to help get it done, right, without using up other's time. If the thread creator or OP ed suggests I amend or remove anything please let me know.
*
Pre-install instructions:
1) Your device is NOT bricked and is running stock OEM i9305 installed software with details for the device posted at the end of this reply.
2) Prior to doing ANYTHING you can Dial *#7284# on device and can see the 'Qualcomm USB Settings' button
3) KIES drivers installed and i9305 to PC works in KIES application OR you have verified that USB drivers work fine for PC to device
4) You have downloaded on to your PC the Odin3 v3.04. application.
5) You have downloaded the I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5 file to your PC.
6) You downloaded the CWM-SuperSU-v0.96. zip file and stored it on the device’s internal memory card. You can store it directly on the device’s INTERNAL SD card (don’t worry, CWM will allow you to navigate to it).
7) You don’t care about losing any of the media or pictures or applications (whatsapp) installed on my device as these can all be reinstalled later on.
8) Battery is charged to 80 percent or more
9) Solid dual use power and data cable tested and working.
10) Back up all of the contacts to SIM Card in case Data wipe.
11) You are okay with warranty being void and binary counter reset being added
Installation procedure
1) Get coffee
2) Install the latest version of Samsung KIES and check that complete cable communication works and that all drivers on the PC are installed. Confirm that KIES communicates with device on PC. DO NOT update your device using KIES to the latest Samsung or Android software.
3) install QPST v2.7.378 program on your PC. The QPST software is a qualcomm product and is a diagnostic tool that has a variety of subtools that you can use to test, manage and edit the form factor device. Click the setup.exe file and follow instructions. This is a qualcomm product and it is not complicated. A user manual (in case you feel like exploring) is available in .pdf.
4) Dial *#7284# on your device to access DeviceUtil and select 'Qualcomm USB Settings' at the bottom. Now scroll down and select 'RNDIS + DM + MODEM' and press 'OK' to return to the previous screen. Now press your 'Back' key to exit DeviceUtil. Your device is now in DIAG Mode.
5) Connect your device to PC via USB. Note, it may showing “loading drivers” on your PC. Wait for USB drivers to load and install.
6) Find the QPST application on your PC and navigate to the 'QPST Configuration' menu. Select it and navigate to the 'Ports' tab. Press 'Add New Port...' button. Select the COM Port that has 'USB/QC Diagnostic' next to it, change the Port Label name (if you wish to) to 'Samsung GT-I9305 diagnostic” then press 'OK'. You should now see your device listed in the 'Ports' tab and the 'State' should indicate 'Enabled'. Close this QPST application.
7) The next step will help you to BACK UP the IMEI/NV Data.
8) Go back to the QPST application Folder and navigate to the 'Software Download' application and then select the 'Backup' tab. You will need to select and name the file. I chose “i9305-qcn-back-up-file.qcn”. Press the 'Browse' button and select a Save Location for your QCN File. Press the 'Start' button and wait for it to finish. DON’T TOUCH YOUR DEVICE during this process. This will back up all your devices NV Items and save them to the QCN Backup File you just named. The resulting QCN Backup File should be about 250KB in size. The QPST application will show the backup has been completed. Verify that the file was actually backed up by looking in the directory to where you selected to store it. Then close the program.
9) The next step will help you to check to RESTORING IMEI / NV Data:
10) Go back to the QPST application Folder and navigate to the 'Software Download' application and then select the ‘Restore’ tab. Press the 'Browse' button and search for the QCN Backup File you created (remember I named mine “i9305-qcn-back-up-file.qcn”). Press the 'Start' button and wait for it to finish. This will restore all your devices NV Items from the QCN Backup File. Your IMEI / NV Data should now be fully restored. Dial *#06# on your device's keypad to check your IMEI is restored. It should show your 17 digit long IMEI number on screen. Write it down and store for future purposes in case you need to recall it one day.
11) The next step is to Restore the USB Settings after you have performed the above QPST Backup / Restore procedure. Dial *#7284# on your device to access DeviceUtil and select 'Qualcomm USB Settings' at the bottom. Now select 'MTP + ADB' and press 'OK' to return to the previous screen. Now press your 'Back' key to exit DeviceUtil. The device will reboot as you ask it to save and reset. Your device is now back to default USB operation.
12) Exit the QPST application.
13) The next step is to install ODIN which you will use to flash the CWM files from your PC to the device.
* Note that ODIN packages can be device specific. For the GT-i9305 I used “Odin3 v3.04.exe”. Navigate to where you have stored the ODIN application and select “Odin3 v3.04.exe” file and double click. ODIN will open.
NOTE: ODIN will not self install on your computer like a standard-install.exe folder. You will need to run the “Odin3 v3.04.exe” file every time to open ODIN up. Forgive my noobness for not knowing what the name of this procedure it.
14) Search for the ‘ I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5 ‘ file you have downloaded previously in the “pre-install” instructions. For logistics purposes you may wish to drag and drop this file from its current storage location over the ODIN folder directory.
15) If KIES is running shut it down or suppress it on your PC.
16) The next step will involve “installing” the ‘ I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5’ file. Actually, this is just a “module” that is intended to “replace” the stock recovery module. To do this, you will need to first set up your device to boot in what is called the “download” mode. To do this you must: POWER off the device first. Then after power is completely off, PRESS and HOLD the ‘power’ + ‘volume down’ + ‘home’ buttons all at the same time. I suggest that you start by pressing the “volume” + “home” buttons first instead of pressing the “power” button as you may inadvertently just power the device up (instead of booting it up into “download” mode). If you did it right you will boot up in “download” mode and Android will then ask if you if you “want to download a custom OS”. You will confirm “continue” by pressing the volume up key.
NOTE: it’s possible your PC computer may want to install device driver software. If so, just let it install and wait for it to finish.
NOTE: to navigate the menus in “download” mode (and also in “recovery” mode) you should use the VolUp / VolDown to go “up” or “down” the menu. Press the “power” button to select items (kind of like a “go” or “enter” function).
17) Now Connect your device (make sure battery is at least 80% charged) to your PC ( it is preferable to connect directly to the computer and not through a USB HUB or port replicator).
18) Open the ODIN application by navigating to the Odin3 v3.04.exe file . Make sure your device is detected and you should see a blue (older models may show yellow color) square in the top left corner.
NOTE: Make sure only the “auto-reboot” and “f reset time” boxes should be checked in the ODIN Application.
19) Click on the box next to “PDA”. And then click the “PDA” and navigate to the area where the ‘ I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5’ file is stored. Select it and it will auto populate into the ODIN application. Then, on the ODIN application, press “start”. You will see a series of command actions showing in the ODIN Application which should show the status. Upon completion it should show that CWM was installed in the ODIN application. You may have to repeat this process once again as CWM may not “stick”.
20) There has been considerable debate about different units requiring the battery to be pulled due to the fact that some factory units have been shown to reboot back into its own factory state and therefore exclude the CWM file that you just tried to install in the previous steps. I read of many users who were experiencing this problem. See For further reading please see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32235061&postcount=1 to show how to deal with and manage this problem. I, along with another user that I confirmed with, DID NOT have to do the battery pull method. Why? Well, I think that some factory models require this process and others do not. My device (specifications at end of post) did not require it. Also, the problem may have been created by user’s updating their device software through the KIES application which I recommend not doing until the device has been rooted and CWM and SU installed in this process.
21) After instructing ODIN to install the ‘ I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5’ onto the device the device should reboot. If it does not reboot after awhile you can power down your device. What will happen? Well, you have either successfully installed the ‘ I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5’ file or your device has reverted back to the factory restore option. You shouldn’t have much risk of bricking the device during this step. The key is to get the ‘ I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5’ file to stick during the “download” process. If it does not stick you will need to refer to the thread For further reading please see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32235061&postcount=1 as to how to employ the “2 different battery pull during the reboot process” methods he suggested (again, fortunately I did not need to do this).
22) Now you need to put the device in “recovery mode”. Unplug the device from the USB Cable attached to the PC. To put it in recovery mode you must: POWER off the device and the PRESS and HOLD the ‘power’ + ‘volume up’ + ‘home’ buttons all at the same time. Again, I suggest that you start by pressing the “volume” + “home” buttons first instead of pressing the “power” button as you may inadvertently just power the device up (instead of booting it up into “recovery” mode). If you did it right you will boot up in “recovery” mode and you will clearly see the words “CWM-based Recovery” written in white on the top line. If you don’t see that then your installation of the ‘ I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5’ did not work and you will need to repeat the steps above until you get it right.
23) Next you will be installing the SUSuperuser module while your device is in "recovery mode". Remember you should have stored the “CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip” (DO NOT unzip it yourself) on the Device’s internal memory card. Using the volume up/down keys and the “power” button for enter/go you should scroll down and select menu option "install zip from SD card"
select menu option "choose zip from internal SD card"
scroll down to the “CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip file and select that using the “power” button. It will then ask you “if you are sure you want to install, it can’t be done”. Scroll down to the “YES” and then select the power button to confirm. It will then mount and install it. Once it is done installing you will then need to scroll to the “go back” choice on the menu. Then go back to the “reboot” device and select that. It will reboot.
24) Your device should reboot and you should be able to confirm that SUSuperuser is installed by looking at the apps page on your device. You should be able to see a little blue Android with a red cape. If you see it, you have successfully installed.
25) Once you have root and CWM + SU installed and you want to make a FULL BACKUP of your settings and software. Using the same methods above, boot into “recovery mode”, then choose Backup/restore (select it with the “power button”). Then, it will begin the “back up” process which will take about (7 ) minutes (it takes longer if you are backing up lots of items). Note that the program will back up the backup items onto the EXTERNAL SD Card in a folder named “2012-11-07.10.57.45 (“time stamped”) and it will contain 6 items including boot image, recovery image, nandroid.md5, and 3 others. Mine was about 1.17 gb in size and DID NOT include any music, videos, or pictures. MAKE SURE that your external SD Card has enough free space to store the CWM back up folders. I suggest that you then copy the entire back up folder over to another secure location on your PC (which you can copy over to the SD card anytime) in the event your current external SD card or device goes whacky.
26) Well, it was not brief but it was detailed and concise and I hope it helps other noobs like myself to successfully install and execute this process as it will lead to further dev opportunities to trying out other ROM’s while being able to reverse the process if things goes really wrong.
27) If I was of help just say “thanks”. Will try to answer PM if you have them but I am just a noob and may be of little use. This was written by a noob and for other noobs. Hope I haven’t annoyed anyone else in the process.

bleepsake, can't wait to see your video.
Is unrooting unique per phone or is it the same? When I search unroot, I've seen guides to unroot only for certain phones.

I don't think it's a good idea to flash ROMs from other carrier-branded S3's. But since you were looking for steps:
Assuming you're on Windows:
1. Download Odin 3.07 or higher, and also Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones. Install.
2. Open Task Manager, click the Processes tab, and end the tasks names "Kies.exe" and "KiesTrayAgent.exe", if any.
3. Download the firmware you wish to flash from SamMobile. Search for GT-I9300, then click the link of your desired ROM. You have to keep in mind that you must be flashing a US rom. (Head over to this site to see updates in real time - just choose your device from the dropdown menu at the upper right of the website.)
The download will take a while - you're downloading 1.2+ GB of data, after all!
4. The file you downloaded will have a name like this:
Code:
I9300xxxxxx_I9300xxxxxx_XXXXX.tar.md5
Open Odin.
Now, turn off your phone. Once it is off, press and hold Vol Down + Home + Power. At the prompt that follows, press the key for Continue. Once you see the robot, connect your phone to your PC. Odin should now display a blue box at the upper left. Click PDA, then browse for the file you downloaded.
Press Start.
5. The process will take a while. Odin will turn the blue box to green when done. Your phone should automatically reboot and display a green robot with a spinning icosahedron (?) on its belly.
Afterwards, it should reboot (just navigate to Reboot system now using Vol + / - if it doesn't, then press Home) and you will be taken to the initial setup screen in a little while.
That's all!

Hello All,
I have an ATT GS4 I337 which I have been using it on Tmobile Network for a while. To convert it into a fully functional T Mobile phone, I have went through many threads and melted down the steps to what you will see here. It works for me and I am using it as my daily device.
On different threads I saw many people were asking about the same issues that I encountered and some could not figure it out how to overcome them.
Finally I decided to put the steps I went through along with links to what I have used to make the process noob friendly.
Note: I am not the main developer of what is being presented here. What I have here is combinations of what I have seen on different threads.
Disclaimer: You are the one who are deciding to use what I am presenting here, All the risks are on you.
NOTE1: my phone has a locked bootloader so I am only explaining what needs to be done for locked bootloaders. If you are not familiar with this concept, make some research and make sure if you want to proceed.
NOTE2: This has nothing to do with sim-unlocking the phone. If your phone does not accept tmobile sim, first sim-unlock your phone (I am not Google!) then come here and go through the steps.
Approach:
I assume that your ATT i337 has been soft bricked and therefore I will go through all the steps from bringing it back to life until converting it to a M919 equivalent.
Sections:
1-Prerequisits
2-Bring the phone back to life (fresh start)
3- Update to Latest ATT ROM (NI1)
4- Root NI1 Rom
5- Installing SafeStrap
6-Converting it to Tmobile Phone
7-[Optional] Installing missing Tmobile/Samsung apps/widgets <--> and UNDO it!
8-[Only IF] you do not want to be on NI1
9- 4.4.4

Prerequisites
1- Have Samsung USB drivers installed. I personally install Samsung Kies (which installs the required drivers with it). Here is the link to kies: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ (I installed 2.6 version)
Note: After installing the KIES, connect you phone and make sure that it gets detected by kies. This a confirmation that you will not have any issues along the way.
2- Having ODIN software: download version 3.09 from here:https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655042250
3- Stock odinable ROM. I personally go with this rootable NB1: I337UCUFNB1_Rootable_Full_Odin.rar
4- NI1 Update from NB1 zip file: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655042260
5- SafeStrap Ready Stock 4.4.2 Tmobile ROM: Joseph230_V1.0__Fenny_V1.3_STOCK_M919NB4_for_I337NI1.zip
6- [Optional] Missing Samsung and Tmobile Apps/Widgets: Joseph230_V1.01_Missing_Sam_TMO_Stuff.zip
Stock Recovery:
How to: hold volume UP + home button and then press and hold power button. When you see a galaxy logo with a tiny blue line on up left side of screen let go of power button but keep holding the volume up and home power. After couple of seconds you will enter stock recovery. Now let go of all buttons.
Download Mode:
How to: hold down volume rocker + home button, Then hold power button. When you see a warning screen, release all buttons, then press UP on volume rocker. Now you should be in download mode.
I am putting following links here in case you need to be on NB1/NC1. Refer to post 9.
Towelroot-v3.apk
I337_NI1_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5
I337_NC1_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5
I337_NB1_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5

ATT_NC1_modules.zip
ATT_NB1_modules.zip
Bring the phone back to life (fresh start)
As long as your phone can be entered into “Download Mode” you have a way out.
1- Put the phone on “Download mode”.
2- Connect your phone using a (original) USB cable to a USB (version 2.0) port on your PC.
3- Give windows some time to detect and install required drivers. ( You should have gone through prerequisites section prior this step.)
4- Run ODIN program.
5- You should see a com port value under most left side of the top row of odin. This means odin has detected the phone.
6- Extract the file from “Step 3” of prerequisites.
7- click on “AP” button on ODIN and select I337UCUFNB1_TWRootable_Full_Odin.tar.md5 file.
8- Be patient. Odin will need some time to check the file and make sure it is not corrupted or anything. (odin will not be responsive during this time).
9- When you see “Leave CSC” on ODIN window, this means you are ready to flash the stock rom.
10- Hit the Start button on ODIN and give it some time until it flashes the stock rom. Phone will be rebooted 2 times. Do not disconnect the phone until you see a PASS on odin and see your phone booted correctly.
NOTE: some times you will see a pass on ODIN but your phone never passes the boot animation screen. In this case unplug the usb cable from phone, remove battery and put it back. Now enter into stock recovery screen.
Use volume rocker to select factory reset line and hit power button. Then agree that you want to do a factory reset. This 99% of time will solve your boot loop issue that you experienced.
Update to Latest ATT ROM (NI1)
1- Copy “I337_NB1toNI1_OTA_Update.zip” into your external sd-card (not internal).
2- Power off your phone.
3- Go to “Stock Recovery”.
4- Select “apply update from external storage“ and then hit power button.
5- use volum rocker to select “I337_NB1toNI1_OTA_Update.zip” file and then hit power button.
6- Be patient while phone applies the NI1 update.
Root NI1 Rom
If you have followed all the steps now you have a STOCK ATT 4.4.2 NI1 Rom on your phone.
1- Follow steps 1 to 6 from “http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/how-to-root-i337ucufni1-t2881298” to gain root.
2- Install “SuperSu” from Google play. Run it. When it asks to install the binary hit “continue”, then hit “normal”. After it finished installing, it will detect the KNOX, let it disable it. If not succeeded, reboot the phone run the supersu again and let it disable the knox (for me it always works second time).
Installing SafeStrap
1- Install v3.72 SafeStarp from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45693712#post45693712
2- Install “Busybox” from Google Play. Then Run busybox and hit “install” to let the app install required files.
3- Install “SELinux Mode Changer” from Google Play. Run the app and then select “Permissive”.
4- Now run the SafeStarp that you installed on step 1. Hit the “Install Recovery”.
5- you should see “State:Installed” on SafeStarp main screen. Now go ahead and hit “Reboot to Recovery”. You will need to hit it 2 times. First time it gets the root access, second time it actually will reboot.
Converting it to Tmobile Phone
1- Copy “Joseph230_V1.0__Fenny_V1.3_STOCK_M919NB4_for_I337NI1.zip” into you phone (internal/external sd-card)
2- Reboot your phone.
3- When on SafeStrap screen, hit recovery to enter into SafeStarp Recovery.
4- Hit “Wipe”. Hit “Advanced Wipe”. Select “Dalvik Cache”, “Data”, “Cache” and “System”. (Do not select “Micro SDcard”).
5- Swipe to wipe.
6- Go back to main screen of SafeStrap.
7- Select “Install” then select “Joseph230_V1.0__Fenny_V1.3_STOCK_M919NB4_for_I337NI1.zip”.
8- swipe to install.
Note: You do not need to flash any ATT modules since the above rom has NI1 modules.
9- Reboot the phone, be patient until it boots up.
Now you should have a Fully working (even wifi calling) M919 4.4.2 Rom on I337 GS4. This rom is stock-ish rom so go ahead and do your own modifications.
[Optional] Installing missing Tmobile/Samsung apps/widgets <--> and UNDO it!
After Step 6 you have a Stock-ish Tmobile 4.4.2 Rom on you I337 GS4 which works flawlessly. UNLESS you are one of those fellows that like 100% stock with all the Tmobile and Samsung apps and widgets; To make this more clear, that rom you have running right now misses Samsung weather widget!!! and etc...
I am using Fenny's V1.3 as base and he has removed bunch of stock apps/widgets for his own reasons. I decided to have a separate zip that you can flash after step 6 to bring back all the missing apps/widgets.
You can [dirty] flash "Joseph230_V1.01_Missing_Sam_TMO_Stuff.zip" and get all the missing stock apps/widgets.
Obvious Note: Having root access, you always can remove what bothers you
Dirty Flash:
Flashing without clearing "data" and "system". It is always recommended to clear "Cache" and "Dalvik" if you are not executing "Step 7" immediately after "Step 6".
How undo the optional step:
In case you installed the optional apps/widgets and then changed your mind:
1- Download "Joseph230_Undo_V1.01_Missing_Sam_TMO_Stuff.zip"
2- Go into recovery mode and install the zip
3- Clear Dalvik/cache and reboot.
Note: the above step exaclty deletes all the files that get installed via Joseph230_V1.01_Missing_Sam_TMO_Stuff.zip, nothing less, nothing more.
[Only IF] you do not want to be on NI1
I started the thread with the assumption that people prefer to be on the latest modem (NI1). Now I see there are some folks that want to be on NB1 or NC1 due to signal/battery/personal reasons (*****This posts is for you guys****).
Get the necessary files from "Prerequisites" post.
If you want to be on NB1:
Do followings:
1-if you need to bring your phone back to life or want to have a fresh start, do the Step 1
2-Install Towelroot-v3.apk and root your phone.
3-Put your phone in "Download Mode" and use ODIN to flash "I337_NB1_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5"
4-Install Safestrap
5-Convert it to Tmobile Phone
6-Reboot into Safestarp and install "ATT_NB1_modules.zip"
If you want to be on NC1:
Do followings:
1-if you need to bring your phone back to life or want to have a fresh start, do the Step 1
2- Update to NC1
2-1- Copy “ATT_NC1_Update_From_NB1_2400258.zip” into your external sd-card (not internal).
2-2- Power off your phone.
2-3- Go to “Stock Recovery”.
2-4- Select “apply update from external storage“ and then hit power button.
2-5- use volume rocker to select “ATT_NC1_Update_From_NB1_2400258.zip” file and then hit power button.
2-6- Be patient while phone applies the NI1 update.2-Install Towelroot-v3.apk and root your phone.
4-Install Safestrap
5-Convert it to Tmobile Phone
6-Reboot into Safestarp and install "ATT_NC1_modules.zip"
4.4.4
Now that ATT has rolled out 4.4.4 update, we can use Tmobile 4.4.4 Rom. (Note: we needed the official 4.4.4 kernel by ATT to have a fully functioning M919 ROM working on our ATT GS4).
At this point, you should have a 4.4.2 with Safestrap on your phone (no need to be tmobile)
Steps:
1- First use " Alternative Method for Safestrap Users:" from muniz_ri thread to update to latest ATT 4.4.4 ROM. This makes sure that we have latest kernel, modem, ....
Note1: While at the thread, do not forget to hit Thanks and give a thumps up to "muniz_ri" for his good work.
Note2: I personally did not use data back up and recovery... Not sure if you encounter any difficulties or not. I always go for a fresh install to prevent any conflicts and potential headaches.
2- Download "M919_NH7_for_I337_NJ4.zip" and copy it to the phone.
3- Download "UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip" and copy it to the phone.
4- Reboot into Safestrap and do a full wipe (except for sd card).
5- Install M919_NH7_for_I337_NJ4.zip
6- Install UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip
7- Just to be sure, do a dalvik/cache wipe
7- Reboot, be patient while phone boots up, now enjoy your 4.4.4 Tmobile Rom on your I337 ATT GS4.
I have installed a tmobile modem on my att s4 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291589) to use the TMobile bands. Will I need to go through that again if I follow your guide?
Woot, thanks it worked perfect....
Idk if it just me however, I lost the clock and Calendar widgets?
I read on the fenny's thread, he removed these apps. If you want, dl v1, extract these apps and places those in system folder.

Seems that you have a unlocked bootloader! If I were you I would stick to it. My phone has locked bootloader and I only can use safestrap.
Anyhow, you can skip the flahsing using ODIN to keep your modem and bootloader as is.

Yes, You are right, Fenny's 1.3 has some of Tmobile's apps removed.
I may go ahead and make an update just to add missing tmobile apps. (I personally use some of them).
Side note: You can install most of them from google play.

I tried adding the Calendar from stock galaxy s4< it kept crashing (so i gave up on that, probably was missing a side app that goes with it, oh well )
So Instead I installed S planner (galaxy s5 version), it looked nicer and it worked.
As for the Calendar widget I used the S4 one (widgets: 4x4 monthly works, 4x2 daily crashes, if you want 4x2 daily you can install the google calendar)
weather Clock widget (installed Galaxy s5 version, looks the same, and it works perfect)
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qrvtby5iove2ssg/AAD2sLU5ZJE_aDG4WeD_Uat6a?dl=0
For Calendar Install both:
S Planner and Splanner widget apps and place in system/App/ give them full permisions/ and reboot
For Weather Clock stock widget
Install accu weather and weatherdeamon (no need for system app placement but recommended (i am not sure if daemon was already installed on the phone, if it is add extension .bin to the older version, before placing this one in system app)

Step 2: Release the Home/Power button then quick Press it again 03 times.
Next step, you need to be a bit quicker.
Step 3: Use the Home/Power button to navigate to "Download (wireless)" option, then Press & Hold the Home/Power button to select. You have to be real quick otherwise your S3 will reboot.
Step 4: Press the Home/Power button twice, you will see the "[WPS Mode]" change to "[AP Mode]"
Step 5: Choose the Access point with the same name appears on your S3.
Step 6: Your S3 will show that it's been connected to the IP of your computer.
Step 7: Open the Odin, your S3 will show up.
Step 8: Choose the right file for each Option BL, AP and CSC from the files you extract after downloading. Then press Start and wait the PASS (15-20 minutes)
Enjoy
P.S.: I would also like to mention how I unbricked my Gear S3 (Many thanks for BokkieAndijk)
... i found info how to get my S3 back to live again. If you have the same problems with your (bricked) S3 then go to download wirelessly mode en as soon as you see the flower then push the power button 2 seconds en let it go for 1 second, than push it again for 2 seconds en let it go for one and so on til you get him in to download wirelessly mode. May take some attempts but it saves my ass a few times.

Success!! R770X changed to R770 with BQC5 firmware!
I can confirm that BQC5 firmware works on my R770X! I now have a fully functioning Gear S3 Classic and it now states R770 with no X at the end. After all the files loaded on NetOdin the watch restarted with French being the only language. Luckily I do Read\Hear\Write it so I went through the process of connecting the gear through the Gear Manager on my S7 Edge and it connected perfectly and then it changed the language to English!
Upon my web search I noticed that the stores where using S7 Edge's to install the Retail Mode app on the watches so I figured that they were retail watches and that meant it was installing\changing the firmware with an X at the end only to differentiate and grab the correct OTA updates. It made sense because when I temporarily disabled Retail Mode within the app itself all the antennas worked (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Location and NFC) so I knew I had a chance that a stock firmware might work.
I hope this helps out anyone else in my situation. I followed the post with the BQC5 and used those files to accomplish this.
Thank you adfree for all your great help. And also xedamen for your tutorial post. Without both your help & guidance I would have stared at a very expensive watch show me the wrong time.
Repost from the other thread. (Sorry, I don't know if that is how it's done).

Nice, it's good news for those who needed
Thank you for a guide and ROM.
What is the country origin of this ROM?
I have the same ROM version installed on my watch and wonder if reflashing could help with SPay (watch was purchased in a country where SPay in not supported) by changing CSC.
Firmware package for OXA region contains more then 1 CSC/Country/Sales Code....
Simple download Firmware and extract files with 7Zip from CSC.
To detect which Sales Code is ACTIVE on your device... look here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73265182&postcount=68
Only as info.
Best Regards
Hi, thank you for your reply.
As I understand OXA contains several countries.
Is there a way to change country of sales, I need to change it from Ukraine to Sweden?
Thank you.

Yes.
But it is not really easy nor very safe...
You need ROOT access... and at the moment only Combination Firmware offer this...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/development/rom-samsung-gear-s3-sm-r770-t3584402
And their is no 1 click instruction available...
Caution!
I have my own experience only with SM-R732... and some feedback with SM-R760...
So you are at your own with SM-R770...
Risk to brick your device...
Best Regards
I wonder why it doesn't work after reflashing new rom and csc. I understand that OXA is multi region, but wouldn't it work after reflashing non-OXA CSC/rom and back...
If you unpack Firmware and concentrate your eyes on csc.img... use 7Zip for extraction...
Then you can see several folders...
Example DBT for instance...
Code:
DBT
SER
XAR
.
.
.
MANY more countries/Sales Codes supported...
If this text string aka Sales Code is written into your Gear... then device is AUTOMATIC configured for DBT...
I mean this CSC/Sales Code or how ever you want call it... is NOT new since Gear Wearables...
This is since years used mechanism for Samsung handsets...
You could try to google...
Best Regards
Hi adfree!
What do you mean "automatically configured to DBT"?

Feel free to ask me in German.
My English is very limited...
I mean device is doing all configuration WITHOUT ask you... by reading some Settings stored on device...
automatic/self configuration vs. you can choose/select
Best Regards
Hi, your English is good, much better than my German This mechanism of automatic assignment is interesting, I wonder if somebody has found this out.
I think I was reading a thread on forums that people were reflashing different roms and eventually it worked out to change an origin country but it seems like a random process.
Do you know if rom change need a root?

We could try to learn together.
Step by step.
First good idea is to start from scratch... at the beginning...
Lesson 1.
Download Firmware
Lesson 2.
Unpack with Tool called 7Zip...
2.1
Unpack/extract files from csc.img with 7Zip
3.
Now click through folders and look into folder:
Code:
preconfig\
Tell me what you can see...

Pasdrawlaju tebja. :good:
Again.
This Firmware is for all countries... for model:
Code:
SM-R770
Gear S3 is NO model name... it is """pet name""" and irrelevant as more then 1 model exists...
Code:
SM-R760
SM-R770
SM-R765 and few more variants of...
.
.
.
In Computer world we have only 0 or 1... and it is better to be Byte exact.
So there are BIG difference between:
Code:
o
O
0
Looks similar or same for as humans... but in Computer world these are exact 3 different Chars...
Back to Samsung handset/wearable...
They differ through CSC blablaba crap...
Few examples...
Code:
XAR is US
DBT is Germany
SEK is Ukraine and inside csc.img
SEK is visible in Product Code... if you concentrate your eyes on it...
http://www.samsung.com/ua_ru/wearables/gear-s3-classic-r770/
Code:
SM-R770NZSA[B]SEK[/B]
These 3 Chars are written into Wearable/handset... and are not ever easy to change...
But you have to change inside your device...
Firmware will NOT help you...
SPay crap is not 100 % clear to me, how it work...
If it need an chain...
Like XAR Sales Code in all 2 devices...
Handset + Wearable...
First attempt would be to change your SEK Sales Code to XAR...
It is only theory... I hope XAR is Samsung Pay supported country number 1... because USA
But Samsung Pay is not really interesting for me...
Sales Code is also important if I want to play with Firmware...
Btw... if you unpack all files from Firmware... rootfs.img... then you will find Samsung Pay TPK inside...
Best Regards
Rookie question, CSC file is zipped, then md5, then img.
If I edit one of the files in .img, how do I pack it back to iso and then to md5?
Also can I flash it to the watch without root, knox change etc.?
In preset folder there is nothing than language preset.
MPS folder has some customer settings which are more interesting.
If I edit one of the files in .img, how do I pack it back to iso and then to md5?

Be care fully...
1.
This is "special" TAR Format...
You can "ignore" MD5... this is only for selfcheck... to prevent damage TAR file...
2.
csc.img is an Image of an Linux partition...
Extraction is easier as create valid csc.img with Windows...
Better under Linux mount blabla...
3.
Fnimanie!
Gear S3 is not really Modding friendly...
Higher Security as in Gear S2...
Risk to end up in Bootloop and disabled WiFi...
Best Regards
Has anyone managed to change the area code on your Gear S3? I need to use Samsung Pay and hand it on.
Does anyone know tell me how to change the firmware of Samsung Gear S3 so that it accesses the Samsung Pay app? Has anyone ever succeeded?
Samsung Gear S Smartwatch SM-R750
Hi, am looking for a way to fix and or change my firmware on my SM-R750 Samsung Gear S which was purchased From Hong Kong and to change it to Canada. can anyone please help with this? thank you.
I have been searching the internet for days now and I haven't found a single way to root samsung SM-J337P Android 9 I hope to have some feedback on this site
Ive been looking to do the same for the last couple of months now & haven't had a bit of luck finding anythng or having any tried methods turn out successful
Root is fairly simple using Magisk pre patched method.
As for TWRP. Seems no one has bothered yet.
If there is a warrant for it I'll look into it, but I don't have as much enthusiasm nowadays as there seems to be a hit and run nature now on XDA.
I can't even get any feedback half the time.

tell me about it man. they even let me be a mod!! they must be hard up!! I had better button my lip, dont want any senior mods to think im attempting a mutiny LOLOLOL
it used to be back in the day that people would just accomplish stuff that the mfg said was impossible just to piss them off. Not because they wanted to do anything nefarious with the new found ability, just to poke a stick in their eyes! Man, i miss the OG Evo 4G days
@Androidhelper77 @poppas210 sorry, didnt mean to threadjack, but the root method is available, it just takes some reading of the threads to get there
Thank u

This is probably obvious, but what do you mean by "pre patched method?"
EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out what you mean.
Ok, for anyone else who stumbles accross this thread, here's the steps:
Prerequisites:
- Samsung USB Drivers
- Patched Odin flashing tool. v. 1.13 or later. (Mine is v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD) (You might not need the patched one. It's just what I happened to use.) You do indeed need the patched one.
- Stock firmware img (To find version: Settings > About phone > Software version)
1. Activate developer mode.
- Settings > About Phone > Software Information
- Click "Build Number" repeatedly until it says "Congratulations! You are a developer!"
2. Enable USB Debugging and authorize computer.
- Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging
3. Disable screen lock: Settings > Lock Screen > Screen lock type > None
4. Remove any Google or Samsung accounts: Settings > Accounts and backup > Accounts
5. Unlock boot loader WARNING: THIS WILL ERASE YOUR DEVICE
- Settings > Developer Options > OEM Unlocking
6. Copy the stock farmware img to your phone. You want the file that starts with "AP"
7. Install Magisk Manager by going to the magisk manager website on your phone and hitting "Download Magisk Manager" button and installing the app. The first time you open it, it will need to do additional setup and reboot your device.
8. Open Magisk Manager and select "Install" next to "Magisk." Click Install again, and then click "Select and Patch a File"
9. Select the firmware img you just copied to the phone.
10. Wait for process to complete. (Writing: system.img.lz4 takes a minute)
11. When Magisk Manager says "All done!" close it.
12. Copy the file called "magisk_patched.tar" from your phone to your computer. It should be found in your phone's internal memory "Download" folder.
13. Turn off the phone
14. Open Odin on PC
15. Boot phone into Odin mode: With the phone powered off, press and hold Vol-, Home, and Power until the blue warning screen appears, and then press Vol+ to enter Odin mode.
16. Your phone should appear in Odin on your PC
17. Click the AP button and select the "magisk_patched.tar" file.
18. Click "Start" and then DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!
19. When the process is complete, a boc in Odin should say "PASS!" and be green. Your phone will reboot. (It will take longer than normal.)
20. Close Odin
21. Initial phone setup. Blah blah...
22. After initial setup, you may get a notification on your phone warning you of unauthorized changes. (Duh.) Just select it and hit cancel.
23. Install Magisk Manager on your phone again (repeat step 6)
24. After a reboot, open Magisk Manager again and it should say "Magisk is up to date."
You are done! Enjoy root access!

No, I don't think you need to extract anything from it. Just remove the .md5 extension, and Magisk should be able to patch it.
For example, my file is named "AP_J337PVPS4BSI5_CL16191886_QB26045544_REV00_user_low_ship_meta_OS9.tar.md5" so I will remove the .md5 ext leaving me with "AP_J337PVPS4BSI5_CL16191886_QB26045544_REV00_user_low_ship_meta_OS9.tar" which is copied to the phone.

But, TWRP does not have FW for j3topeltespr. And firmwar.mobi misidentified phone as galaxy j7 2016.
