Anyone having issues with voice (system, US English)? In that it only works once or twice, then constantly fails with the error "voice input fail".
I can change language (to German for instance) it will work a few times, then stop... back to US English (works a few times...then, yep, stops....).....
Anyone else see this?
Thanks!
Edit/Update - - Try UK ?? English!
..
I have the same issue. Don't know what's wrong.
Seems to work now....

Yours working yet? I factory reset the watch after backing it up and did the whole set-up dance....no difference. Then, later in the day, it started working....haven't thoroughly tested it....but it seems be better....
..
I have an S2, but the underlying implementation is the same.
S-Voice uses a remote server for decoding and interpreting voice input. Occasionally Samsung's servers are unresponsive or failing in some other way. I've experienced this a few times over the last year I've had my S2.
So this may be what was going on, particularly since it started working again later. I didn't use S-voice yesterday, so I can't comment on any outages.
Finally, I will add that since the rollout of the recent update adding a bunch of S3 features to the S2 (reminders, etc.) and updating the entire Tizen OS, S-voice is working much better than it used to. Still doesn't hold a candle to Google's "okay google", but has crossed the threshold to being a useful, value-add feature now rather than a cruel tease. In my opinion, of course.
I had this problem with my S3. You might have hit a setting that you did not realize you hit. When you were able to enter speech and hit send, you had a choice to choose send as text or send as voice. Just below these two choices there is a small circle, if you accidentally touch that, it turns off the speech input and only uses the text. The only way I have found to get out of this mode is to open the main settings, scroll down to messages, select messages, you should see "send as audio". Click it so it is "on".
This should take you back to where it will let you dictate messages. Just be careful when selecting the send as text or audio option as that little circle will be below them and it is easy to touch accidentally.
I hope this helps
I have the same problem and it has not been corrected by resetting or the message sound option.
Same issue here
Well it seems to be at it again.
Interesting part is that using U.S. English, it does not work. If I switch it to U. K. English it does work. (I'm in the US..)
... C'mon Samsung, how about getting your current software working correctly before introducing any new buggy stuff.
Skeeter123,, I am having the same exact problem since I installed the new software update , very frustrating hopefully they will fix this issue soon ?
Yup.
Fix the old buggy software before you give us a new buggy stuff.
Ridiculous Update
I have had my watch for one week and it worked great and then the voice input just stopped. I called Samsung and they offered NO help other than for me to mail it back to them, REALLY! So, back to Best buy for an exchange. Well, same issue will another brand new $450 watch. Is the Gear S3 going to another Note 7 debacle? It is a Samsung product. Get your crap together Samsung! If anyone finds a fix, Pease post.
I'm having this problem

You're welcome!
But now you have to speak that funny English that they speak over there.:silly:
While I never tried it till this morning, it did work. US.
Still not working for me. And UK English is not working very well either.
Are you in the US?
For all of my tests I am attempting to dictate a message.
I just switched mine over to the English (UK) and it appears to be working right now. I am in the good ole US of A, and have a pretty thick southern accent and it works, but we should not have to change it this way, but at least it works again.
Yup. I hear ya! Too bad Sammy doesn't. I'm going to check out some of the Android Wear 2.0 watches soon.....If I like one, then it's bye-bye Sammy. For good....sigh...
That's too bad that they will lose customers over their inability to get it right the first time. Crazy thing with voice input, I have to have it set to UK English to respond to text messages, or to send a text, but it has to be in US English to speak a reminder in?. Do you think Samsung even monitors this forum?

So after realizing that my brand new $650 phone did not have bluetooth voice dialing, I decided to do some work.... good news.
HTC did not include the VoiceDialer.apk with the Sensation. Why? No clue!
After getting it here...
http://download615.mediafire.com/m4f6kpd3g06g/mdh1m1x0dzh/VoiceDialer.apk
I was able to prompt my car stereo's Voice Dial button, but the Voice Dial still did not want to work correctly, but... just get ChoiceDialer+ from the market, and all is good.
How did you install the apk I would like to try this before I return the phone. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable, and switch to Disk mode or Mass storage mode or whatever you call it.... drag it onto your phone. Use Astro or Root explorer to navigate to your phones folder, and just open the apk to install, and then restart.
Again, I dont think the voice dialer itself will give you prompts, so get a third party app like ChoiceDialer+
I can't get the voice dialer to repeat what I say for confirmation.
After I press my bluetooth, voice dialer opens up, I say my command, and then a pop-up comes up asking me to press ok or cancel.
Anybody got any luck with this?
I have been using vlingo since launch for bt dialing and works great. The app even has an in car mode and can read texts and emails. Of course you can turn that off as well.
I just use vlingo as my default app when long pressing the search button. So upon a long press, vlingo launches and listens via bluetooth and you can say your command from searching whatever to navigate to wherever to call whomever in your address book. Try it out, it's free. You can always uninstall if you do not like the functionality.
Is there an option for me to press the button on my bluetooth to trigger the app? It is illegal to use the phone while driving up here in Canada.
Make sure voicedialer.apk is installed, and then install a third party voice dialer like Vlingo or Choice Handsfree. You need that voicedialer.apk installed to trigger the prompt when you press the Bluetooth button on your headset... When you press it, it should bring up a prompt asking you which program you'd like to use.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
my voicedialer Force closed
after i installed choice dialer, i got the same menu still.
I press my bluetooth, say something, and then on my phone screen, it gives me a prompt as to what to do (in this case, who to call).
I don't want to touch my phone while driving.
The voicedialer app worked perfectly fine with my nexus one with the same bluetooth headset, no idea why it's not working on my sensation.
I think HTC needs to do something about this. I just bought the Sensation yesterday and didn't realize this issue till this morning. I am using the BlueAnt Q2. Call recognition works fine. But using the voice commands on the Q2 is a bust cause the device is no compatible. WTF.

I have the same situation, Q2, Sensation, hopefully a rooted ROM will fix this issue.
Sorted
I have a HTC Desire and have long been frustrated at its inability to voice dial via bluetooth. Last week I was annoyed by HTC's attitude to a Gingerbread update for the Desire, so I took the plunge and rooted my phone, installing Cyanogen mod 7.
Wonderful change, it's like having a new phone! One bonus is that, just today I decided to try voice dialling in my car, and it works perfectly! Paired the phone with my Alpine car radio, pressed the phone button on the radio and up came the message 'voice dialling', I said 'call John' and a female voice replied 'calling John' and there I was speaking, totally handsfree. Miraculous I thought, why couldn't HTC manage that?
So, all credit to Cyanogen for a superb update to my phone and I'll be donating, although it's free.
Same issues here. HTC seems to have rushed this one out the door. Besides the lack of BT voice dialing, I'm seeing hangs/crashes in the phone dialer app, and rapid battery drain when playing games. I wish there was a way to turn off Sense; it really adds nothing to the Android experience and usually gets in the way.
installs fine but keeps force closing and does not work with bt and no confirmation prompts. found vlingo but it does not work with sensation.in fact, the app will lock your phone and you will have to restore phone if you can even manage to get it installed in first place. so please stop telling people to use this app. you should be ashamed of yourself.

Its too bad you don't know what you're talking about fattexan. I downloaded VLingo from Android Zoom the first day I had my Sensation and have used it everyday since with a blackberry bluetooth speaker. It has not bricked my phone, caused a force close and anything but work beautifully. And please, don't call me a liar like you've done before. I'd be happy to post pictures to get it through your fattexan head.

I've been reading through the threads and have been most interested in voice dialing. I had it on my HD2 and it was quite useful as I use a bluetooth headset as my primary means of talking on the phone. I just hate holding the phone up to my head. In any case, voice dialing IS possible without using BT. I'm sure most of you know this as all you have to do is hold the search button on the phone for a second to get a voice command prompt pop up where you can simply say "call <contact name>" or "dial <phone number>" and it will do as told. I have no modifications on my phone, it is as stock as stock can come.
With my headsets, it used to be where I held the activate button for a moment, a tone would play in my ear, and a voice would say "say a command". Keep in mind, that was on my HD2. The sensation doesn't come with BT voice dialing by default, it seems, and it does appear that there are work-arounds to it like the apk listed above. In fact, I've seen some relatively talented people figure out how to make things work, that weren't supposed to work in the first place. Also keep in mind that voice dialing and other functions are software based, and simply writing the proper code can overcome pretty much anything.
With that being said, thefattexan, I've seen you call other posters and responders liars, and in this thread alone, you've told someone that they're "full of crap". In all honesty, those comments are not appreciated, and at least one thread was closed by a moderator because of attacks like that.
Let me submit to you, that just because you've never seen or heard of something, does not mean that it doesn't exist. Simply because you could not make it work, does not mean that someone else wasn't able to. Calling someone a liar based only on your own experiences is pretty much out of line, and your behavior is somewhat disgraceful. So I am asking you nicely, to please refrain from that sort of behavior. Maybe if someone says they can do something that you are not able to, rather than call them a liar, ask them how they accomplished it and you may learn something in the bargain. Obviously, they tried something that you didn't, and voila. Otherwise, don't say anything, because carrying on like you do will only result in the moderators banning you.
for those that agree, click the thanks button and show the love.
I have had the same problems with the voice dialer apk. It installs just fine but it force closes when trying to use from the bluetooth headset.
I tried vlingo and some other apps but they are too complicated and usually require some interaction with the phone.
I want it to work just like my Thunderbolt. When my phone is in my pocket I can press the bluetooth call button and be prompted to speak now. The say "call John" and then prompted, "calling john" and the phone dials the number. Very simple and easy to work without any interaction.

I have seen your past posts and I can see you do not play well with others. Man, are you a native Texan? You are the most....well how can I put this...ignorant person here. This is XDA. A place where developers and users help each other troubleshoot things here.
And your great additions to this community? Just badmouthing everyone that does not share your view. Name calling really got you where you are today /sarcasm.
I do not know what your problem is and why you resort to name calling literally everytime you post.
Back to topic and to simply replying to you. I have been the early adopters of vlingo. I even paid for the app when it was first released. I have to say I did indeed install this via market when I got the phone because a week ago the in car setting kept fc'ing on me and I uninstalled and reinstalled the version I found in the market.
The funny thing is I tried looking again on the market and I do see that it is marked incompatible with the Sensation like you said, but I did uninstall the app and reinstalled fresh from the market and not use any restores.
I am done sparring with words with you and you can keep calling me and every one else here names....I don't know maybe you were bullied as a child, not given enough attention as a child, or maybe you found out that the Easter Bunny is a myth *gasp*....
I part with this: Get that stinking cross off your back, use the wood to build a bridge and get the hell over it.....

You are d'bomb!! Worked exactly as you stated. I now have a completely hands free dialing experience using only my bluetooth headset.
Just a tip for anyone watching... I had to restart my phone after installing the voicedialer.apk in order for it to respond correctly. THEN I installed the Hands Free Voice dialer.
ReadItToMe Lite is now on the android market. For those who missed my other thread it is an app which reads out your incoming sms and calls automatically via bluetooth or a headset or even your phone speaker depending on what you prefer. It also translates txt speak so unlike other apps which find reading sms's (at least mine ) difficult.. with ReadItToMe btw becomes 'by the way' and lol becomes 'laugh out loud'.. as well as that you can add your own words so for example 'diff' could become different..
ReadItToMe Pro - Reply with your voice
If would like to be an alpha/beta tester for the pro version I have attatched it below. This adds the option after you receive a message to reply to or call that person back using your voice.
This is how it works atm:
1 - You receive a message, it may be read or not depending on your settings.
2 - You will then hear a beep (same beep as when you increase ringer volume)
3 - If you want to reply to the message you say 'reply' then your message, all in one go, without a pause.. ie 'reply thanks for testing my app'
- If you want to call that person you say 'call'
4 - If you don't say either call or reply it will do nothing.. if you do say either it will confirm with you your chosen action to which you say yes or no
There is a test button as well to test out the feature.. although obviously this will not send and sms or call anyone.. its just to test how it works/captures your voice etc..
As always feature requests or ideas on how you would prefer it to work are always welcome
Note - The auto data option will turn your data on to capture your voice and off afterwards. So if you are like me and always have data off you can still use this app. (Speech to text translation requires trranslation via google servers in case you didn't know, hence the need for data)
Known bugs:
- You may need to say yes or no twice to confirm your action
I'm installing now and am happy to be a tester...if you don't mind having a tester who doesn't know anything and can never figure anything out
Good Aplication
I'm not getting call announcements streamed through my bluetooth
But I do get incoming call information through the handeset speakerphone
I wonder if an option to disable the ringtone could/should be added so just the callers number/ name should be read instead of both since the ringtone and readittome read info is done over one another
Will gladly test the application and give you the feedback.
I'm just now getting to testing the reply system....here's what happens
1... I receive an sms and the application reads it to me
2...There is an audible beep and I say "reply"
3...I get asked if I want to reply
4...I say "yes"
5...there is another audible beep and I start speaking
6...the app tells me the message is sent
7...no message is sent afterwards
Feedback....
The app is awesome without the reply feature so please don't take anything as a complaint, I hope I can do a decent enough job explaining what occurs on my device clearly enough so as to not add confusion as you work on the application lol...
After I say "reply" and after I answer "yes", it would be nice if the application gave a notification to start speaking a reply, a beep would suffice, a voice instruction and a beep would be perfect....as it is now, I am never sure if my answering "yes" to confirm I want to send a reply is accepted by the application so I find myself saying "yes" twice and then start speaking my reply...I find myself listening for an acceptance to my answer of "yes" and then hesitating to speak my reply because I'm not sure my answer is accepted....maybe what I'd prefer (not that it matters haha)...is...
1...receive sms and it is read to me
2...a beep occurs and I say "reply"
3...the app asks if I'm sure and then a beep occurs
4...I answer "yes"
5...a beep occurs and the app says "reply after the beep"
6...a beep occurs and I know to start speaking
Another optional scenario could be ........
1...receive sms and it is read
2...the app says " if you would like to reply via sms say "reply", if you would like to call, say call...speak your selection after the beep"....and then a beep occurs....
3...the app acknowledges the selection and says "you have selected to reply via sms, please speak your reply after the beep"....OR...if "call" was selected the application could say "dialing now"
Just two cents from someone who doesn't know anything and can never figure anything out
I tested the call-back feature....it works ...........of course using it the first time I didn't exactly know what to expext so when propmpted I said "call" and when asked to confirm I just said "yes yes yes yes yes"....lol....and then...IT WORKED ...very nice

Thanks for that feedback, that's very useful.. One thing which I may not have explained properly in the 1st post, the reason no message is being sent is because the way it works is you hear the beep, you say reply and your message all in one go.. it will then say reply to x your message, is that correct? if you then say yes it will send your message.. atm as you are only saying reply it thinks you want to send a blank message hence nothing is sent as I disabled sending blank messages.. I'll try and clear that up in the original post..
As to how you'd like it to work my thinking was to have it available if you want and unnoticeable if you didn't.. so for example if you don't say reply or call it will do nothing, I personally didn't want it to ask what I wanted to do however if this is the consensus amongst you guys I can add that option in..
Also were you using it via the phones mic or bluetooth?
Again thanks for the feedback.. any other testers feedback would also be appreciated..
I used it via the device handset mic as you had already mentioned the headset wasnt operational yet.....I‘ll test it now and report back momentarily.....additionally, I‘ll say.....the way youve designed it makes it much more intuitive than being prompted by the application to confirm a users choice, which makes it faster to do something.....so now that we know how to use it, I say leave it like you designed it...
I tested it as you descibe, and voila!! Success ...I say "reply" and then speak my message, the app asks for confirmation and I answer "yes" and it sent succesfully...awesome, crazyfool...very nice ...it might help others to know that when the application speaks to confirm the selection, the user replies to the application before the next beep...meaning....
When the application asks a question, once the question is asked, it awaits a reply once it's done speaking...if the user hears a beep after the voice, the opportunity to reply has passed you by and the beep is your signal that you took too long to answer it
Crazyfool, what do you think about adding an option for the user to select whether certain characters are read or not... things like forward slashes and such
new version up.. it'll now yet you reply or call over bluetooth.. would appreciate it you guys could test this and see how it works for you..
as to excluding characters it is possible although I'm not sure where that would come in handy?

Also everyone whos having an issue could you ensure tts works on your phone. If you enter some txt speak and press read if nothing is read then the issue is not the sms or calls but the tts settings on your phone or the volume.
Thanks for this great app, been looking for this functionality for ages. Just wondering if this is somewhere where we can request enhancements.
I was thinking about having an option that lets you have a voice confirmation that you want the incoming SMS to be read aloud.
Works perfectly. Thanks so much for this.

Interesting one, and can't figure out why it's happening - so if anyone has any thoughts x)
Flashed L tonight, all went smoothly and generally everything is fine. The only weird thing is that Google Voice search has stopped working. I press the Voice search button, and it just doesn't pick up any sound. I trying saying "ok google", and it doesn't pick that up either. Also, along with that, Text to Speech refuses to work too, tried with different languages and different voice packs.
Any ideas?
I know I had to go into the Google Now settings and activate the "OK Google" from any screen, to get it to work.
I had the same problem when setting another language as the primary language, then switching back to English, but something seemed bugged.
Removing all the other languages and restoring English (US) only, and finally rebooting, resolved the issue. Hope this helps.

Hmm, just gave that a try, no dice Was it just the Voice language or the whole phone that you had to change?
The weird thing is, it's like it's not even connecting to the microphone, just sits there listening and not hearing anything x)
Yes, that was exactly the same behavior i had with mine. I also ended up trying to configure Ok Google from any screen, and the voice training feature didn't hear anything, remaining stuck on the 1st of 3 verifications.
Maybe you can try going to Settings > App > All > Google Search and deleting cache/data to restore it brand new.

Tried that, and reflashing it, factory reset etc. Turns out the problem is slightly wider than just that not working though - It's killed the Microphone completely, can't make voice calls, it's like it's just not picking up the mix exists for some reason :S
It takes time to activate, there is a backend update of google going on while you select your language, but eventually comes back on.
Try voice typing if your believe the mic is not doing any good for "ok google"

just to try it out to rule out whether it's the telephony app or in effect a bug which affects 5.0 as a whole(which i highly doubt, because i have mine working like a charm) Hell mine even works on off-screen while charging.

Ok, voice search nothing, voice typing nothing, Making Phone calls, nothing x) The only thing I haven't managed to try yet is downloading a 3rd party voice recorder app - but unfortunately I'm on GSM at work and for some reason, Lollipop is refusing to connect to the wifi as well. Good times
Might just flash it back to 4.4.4 and wait for the OTA upgrade to see if that does it better
Just as an additional - managed to download a voice recorder app.... Nothing either. So the whole OS isn't picking up the Microphone. Curiouser and curiouser
Oh hell.... I'm going to hang my head in shame now and hand in any tehcy credentials I may have once had.
I have a Pressy.... I forgot it was plugged in... I didn't install the app. Lollipop saw it as a headset and mic.
In conclusion: I'm an idiot. That is all x) Thank you for anyone who tried to help though.
I have the exact same problem but no pressy. Could it mean that there is a fault with the headphone jack?

My mic is not working, i dont know what to do????? any help, just update to lollipop cuz receive the update message, but now i dont have mic. need help...
Ok, so trying to use the stock message app with voice. Every time I use it, I have to press microphone, then start talking, I usually just say hey, then wait, it will say network error, I then proceed in using again and it works fine.
Has anyone else run it this problem?
If so, have you found a fix for this.
Now I have never tried with watch in standalone mode to see if that is different.
I get this from time to time too. It's very frustrating to speak a whole text only to get the response of "Network Error". I wish someone would figure this out. This watch is just s few small tweaks from being head and shoulders above any other wearable. The issue is the tweaks required are on basic functionality.

I have downloaded the "Chat Hub" app by Le Hoang It is $2.70 and this seems to fix the problem. It also allows you respond to messages from like facebook messenger and others. I do not however use a bunch of different ones. So not sure how good it really is.

I've had this issue before but i find it hard to believe that a third party program has anything to do with the S-Voice speech to text...
The issue has also happened to me on a pebble and android wear.. I think it has more to do with the connection between the watch and the phone. What phone are you using?

I can honestly say this fixed it. May not be the idea of the app, but has for me anyway.
Good day all,
I ve had this watch for almost a year now and I still cant get SVoice to function similarly to OK Google on my Android Wear watch. Any advice?
It either doesnt hear me or my favorite part is when I say "text so and so" it will tell me that person is not in my contacts list.
Also is it me or does HERE navaitgator not work great (Im in NYC) as well as Google Maps on a wear watch? Maybe Im comparing too much..But there are serious quality dips here.
I asked the same question awhile ago and got zero response. Near as I can tell all it does is record a voice memo with no Reminder functions. Which is a shame cuz I'd love to have that. I can still read a Reminder on my watch from the phone though.
S Voice couldn't call a particular person or any other to be exact, then I added that person to a "buddy" list as a favorite and S Voice was able to recognize and call. I tried to do some navigation, but was getting a route only overview, no directions. I think it is possible to install Here Maps on the watch or it may need to be installed on the phone to function. Will try tomorrow.
Yeah, it's not Google, for sure. I wish there was some way the S2 would work with Google but apparently that's out.
Feedback for S Voice
Hi all,
We'd like to know more about the issue you're having with S Voice.
Can you please share the device information?
Please feel free to reply through here or on private message.

I use both gear S and S2. The gear s I use for work with a work sim and I can say "call <name>" and it dials from my work number even though the contact is on the phone, same for text. Is it a permission issue you're having? Though I do use a Samsung phone so maybe that helps, but to be honest I've tried the gear S wear port and found a new love for tizen on the S and S2, it's not pretty but does what I need and has best by far battery life.
