[Completed] Newbiest of noobs, I need all the help with Redmi 3 ! - XDA Assist

Hi, I am the definition of an absolute newbie. I am desperate to get rid of the crappy software on my Xiaomi Redmi 3. I want to erase the whole thing and start afresh.
The hardware seems great, but I think the software is junk. I gave up looking on Xiaomi sites / forums a long time ago!
I need a step-by-step guide, or more accurately, hand-holding. I don't know ANY of the jargon on this site.
Apologies if the really basic info is on here, but I can't find it/ don't know where to look.
Thank you.

Hi !
No one has been born knowledgeable , don`t worry , here is a great index , have a look

Upgrade from OS5 to OS6

Don't know which section to post this really, but here goes...
I got a mini XDA on o2 (UK)
I want to upgrade the operating system from 5 to 6, but all o2 shops don't wanna know.
14 months old so out of warranty.
Can someone help, or explain in plain English how to go about this?
Be careful, I have only just worked out how to operate my pop-up toaster......

Basically you need to read the topics on this forum and fully understand them before you even think of doing something to your xda..
First you need to figure out whether you have a G3 or G4 model, you can find out here
If you have a G4 then you're not in deep ****, but it might be a little difficult..
After that, here's a good tutorial on flashing: clickie
If you don't have a clue about anything in these topics, it'd be best to find someone who can, otherwise you'll probably end up with a bricked phone.
Good luck!
Read, read, read. You should know what you do before doing anything (or you may change your Wizard into an expensive paperweight).
Though when you learn it, it is quite easy. I have CID locked G4 and I changed ROM many times using shelltools (less elegant than SoftSPL/HardSPL solutions, but more safer).

LOL !
C'mon , guys don't just scare him like this
We all have come here as noobies, but have gone through and learned alot.
Hey ! It's not a big deal,if 100/1000 have done it,so can you, just read all the stickies on unlocking and upgrading carefully a couple of times, let it all sink in and when comfortable ,GO for it.
Once again I advise you,Just READ the Stickies only, don't read the whole forum,it'll make you confused,ok
Good luck
Anyone know of where I can get this done in the UK?

[q] help!! Im a complete galaxy noob

Hi all, i need some help with the galaxy s2. i want to mod this phone so i can get free apps, change the way it looks and works, and to keep up with the lads at work who have modded mobiles!! but im a complete noob when it comes to anything like this and have no idea on what im doing. i can see alot of posts on here saying modding and rooting etc.... but which 1 does what? ive read through most of them and still dont fully understand! can someone please point me in the right direction for a beginners guide to modding galaxy s2 or give me a idea on what i should do to make it better!! thanks alot and hi to all agiain as i am new to this site!!
start by reading on the forums of your device, there are lots and lots of info you can pick there, once you have some idea and have some doubts, you can ask more specific questions, that ppl will be more eager to reply and help you, but none will come to give you a "for dummies" introductory guide
Nice device btw, grats and good luck
thanks for quick reply. ill have a look at what youve said and see if there is any other questions i may have

[Completed] Newbie to Mobile hacking, need pointers to root Galaxy Y GT s6102

Hi All,
Just discovered XdaDev by googling....like the spirit of communal help, hope I can contribute back one day.
Am semi tech on many different things but I've got no 'head space' on mobile tech, rooting and all that goes with it.
The more I read the more I get confused, many posts come assuming you know stuff already or have a 'familiarity',
=MY PROBLEM=
My Galaxy Young GT S6102 keeps filling up as storage is low spec. Due to Samsung forced updates I either factory default it again and run around with no security or Learn to ROOT it and perhaps put a minimal image on it.
=======
Tried looking for my model and although there are some refs here and there I cant find a good NEWBIE GUIDE to do it.
Can someone please point me in the direction with a few links. I'm not being lazy, I spend over 20 hours searching the internet and cant find anything that doesn't leave me with some doubt or missing knowledge [assumed pre knowledge/familiarity].
Don't want to brick my phone, am out of work and can't afford to replace.
cheers all.
Hello and welcome to XDA Assist.
HERE is a very easy guide to root your phone.
Enjoy! Any further assistance, just ask in that linked thread
Good Luck and happy rooting!

[Completed] Basics of rooting phones

Hi,
I've been on this site and forums lots of time to read about all the things people here do with their phones.
I really want to learn more about it, but I have no idea where to start; what is the true definition of ROM, what really happens when you root a phone, what are all the possibilities?
Is there a way I could learn some basics, like a beginners guide? I'm not a complete noob when it comes to technology, so I think with some help I'll be capable of understanding some of it.
I also read a lot about Cynagogenmod. Does that have a lot to do with rooting, or is that a whole different thing? On the other hand I saw that it stopped? I have no idea if it's any use anymore.
Maybe usefull to add: I don't really have to tweak my whole phone or skin. I would be using all the info to get rid of some Chinaphone skins and put on 'normal' Android, if that's possible.
Thanks and sorry to bother you,

Hello,
You can read here in brief about rooting https://www.xda-developers.com/root/
CyanogenMod is a custom ROM/Firmware. It has nothing to do with root.

Question Everyone please help

Everyone please help unlock the bootloader and Rooted the phone. I am tired of searching in Chinese and Japanese sites because I heard someone say that the method and the files exist, but it is not in the known language or we did not reach it, and unfortunately I did not find anything until this moment.
I bought this phone a few weeks ago and I really like it
Everyone please share any information they have
I was intending to try to install the black shark 3 files from the phone in a desperate attempt, and I had a problem
I didn't find the following - because I didn't find it
add your account and device in miui settings developer options mi unlock status
This option is not available to me at all
That's why I couldn't complete the experiment
I thank you all in advance

Once there is a method it will be shared here. To create lots of posts and cry around helps nobody. Just wait or sell the phone.
