There's shortcuts here for both the start menu and a close button which can be used for remapping the PTT button: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1249
and it's a real 'close' button and not a back button like the hardware button is set up as...

I made a MOD for the Galaxy S III which remaps the Menu key to the home button. The issue I'm having is that when I do this, it also enables the long press on the normal menu capacitive button even though a normal press is disabled.
Does anyone know how to disable the long press of a button?
I have just upgraded to a Motorola RAZR HD from a phone that had physical (capacitive) "back", "home" and "menu" buttons.
I find the fact that in some instances there is no "menu" button when one could be used irritating. ie, when on the home screen, pressing the "menu" button would bring up a menu with settings etc, but with the RAZR HD there in no "menu" button displayed in that instance.
Is there any way to replace the "recent apps" button, or better yet, add a persistent "menu" button to the onscreen button panel?
I'm aware that on the HTC One V, there was a half functional way of doing this, see

Is there a work around (or a menu setting) that would accomplish this?
If you switch to Cyanogenmod you can assign a long press of one of the buttons to work as a menu button.
In the usr folder then key layout file what do I need to change to achieve changing the long press recent button to perform the menu action? I guess ideally I would like long press home to be recent apps and short press recent to be menu. But which ever is possible. I just need to get a functioning menu button again.
Can any1 tell me where's the settings options to press/click when u r in a app or home screen? Normally just either holding recent or back button.
Are you talking about the menu button? That's been depreciated for a while. The few apps that still need it have an extra button on the navbar. Home menu stuff is accessed through long presses.

Damn, this sucks. Yes, 3 dot menu button. I have an app doesn't show menu button.
For home screen long press all those 3 nav buttons, none working. Except, long press home button, Google now pops up.

I don't know about the app. I suppose you could use something like Button Savior to create a menu button.
What are you trying to do with your home screen? Try long pressing an empty space to get launcher options.

Yep, thought about button savior. Not much options.
Shoot, wish there's 3 dot menu options available at all times without rooting the phone. Bummer.
