Trying to unlock the bootloader and install twrp, need help - Huawei MediaPad X2

Hi guys
i have installed custom recoverys and other roms etc on my old samsung galaxy s2 many years back but have been out of the scene a little recently apart from installing a newer version of android to my old nexus 7 that is really easy.
i have found this huawei process to be different. i received an unlock code form huawei. i think i then needed to go into bootloader mode but it doesnt work. either it goes to huawei's recovery (vol up and power) or another menu that just says software update failed and the only option is to reboot (vol down and power).
thats where i got to.
i havent done anything with ADB but i think i installed it many years back for something or other.
so, apart from having the unlock code, i am stuck and would appreciate any help
thanks, marc

Connect USB connected to pc
Start device while holding vol down.
Start cmd window in folder where you installed latest adbminimal
Type: fastboot devices
If there is no answer change driver of 'adb kirin device' in device manager to ' adb sooner single interface'
Then type: fastboot oem unlock xxxx
where xxxx is your unlock code.

Like Ralf said, you have to plug in the USB cable from your PC to the phone to get into bootloader mode.

when i downloaded the hisuite to make sure the drivers were installed and plugged the x2 in and did vol down and power it started Huawei software installing and got to 90% and hasnt moved past 90%.
i had installed the minimal adb and fastboot, opened the cmd option in the folder and ran fastboot devices but it just brought back the flashing curser. i tried the fastboot oem unoock and the code and it said 'waiting for any device' so i think it is missing something

so i just stopped the hisuite on my pc from starting when connecting phone. i then turned off the phone and did the same method and it came straight up with -
FASTBOOT&RESCUE MODE
Please Connect Usb Cable to Your Computer and Open Hisuite
More Information...
Then there is a blue link and underneath it has the green android picture with the words PHONE Unlocked under that.
Does this mean that somehow it is unlocked either by something i have done or was already unlocked?

Look in device manager, and check if it's detected as adb sooner adb interface, if you are connected and phone in bootloader mode.
If not, then select that entry which comes up when you connect with right mouse click. Then chance driver to adb sooner single interface.

well, as my post a little earlier shows i must be doing something wrong as fastboot definitely works as i did fastboot reboot and it restarted the phone but when i tried the fastboot unlock thing it didnt do anything simply saying waiting for device.

just tried again, this is what i did.
went to the program files folder with fastboot in it> right clicked the cmd option in there and run as admin> typed fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxxxx and enter. it said 'FAILED (remote: already fastboot unlocked)
bit stuck now

You wrote 'waiting for device'' . This is when adb is not ok on pc. Then you are reporting unlock command shots an error. This can not be on the same connection. If fastboot works, then flash the correct TWRP. This depends on the version you are. What is your current version?
Other thing: delete the update.app in dload folder! This is too early. Type in adb window.

Try flashing twrp again and see if it lets you. You can also try the command fastboot oem unlocking xxxxxx and see if that works. Make sure you have the latest adb as well. On one of my X2's when I received it and went to unlock it, it was already unlocked so you never know. Use this adb:

not sure about adb being okay but how would i check? unlock command does show an error but it IS the same connection with the same cable and same port. i have tried flashing TWRP as stated but it doesnt allow it. the phone is on android 5.0 and the build shows as B003. in device manager it doesnt show either of those things you state, only Huawei Android Interface.

when i downloaded that adb file and clicked on the options, unlike the other ADB and fastboot i downloaded, the window comes up and disappears straight away.

In Device Manager it must be 'adb single sooner interface' instead of Huawei adb device.
It changes view, if you start in bootloader modus.
You should enable usb debugging, in developer options and grand access for the pc you connect.

well, i currently have the phone in bootloader mode in front of me, connected to the pc and the device manager shows as huawei android interface still. so i need to somehow get it to show the other name. hoe would i do this please?
thanks

so i have given up with everything i had done so far and thought it best to start fresh. so i uninstalled hisuite, minimal adb and went into device manager and uninstalled the android device showing up including its driver.
while i have device manager open and plug in the x2 while the phone is on it comes up with Android adapter adb interface. if i watch device manager while starting in bootloader mode it brings up - Lemobile android device>Android bootloader interface -
what should i do from here?

if i right click lemobile it comes up with 2 options only - Scan for hardware changes and Properties. if i click the arrow on the left to expand it, it shows Android bootloader interface. i have had a look into all the options that right click then brings up on the Android bootloader interface but none of them let me chose to change driver. only to update it and it still doesnt then give any option for the sooner single
EDIT...if i click in device manager and then Action at the top i can then find the phone and chose update. there are 4 possible ones that sound right. 1) Android Single ADB interface, 2) Android sooner single ADB Interface version: 2.0.3.0 (30 jun 15), 3) Android sooner single ADB Interface version: 3.13.0.0 (10 oct 14), 4) Androidnet sooner single ADB interface

Try Option 2 .
I had same issue after windows update once, and set pc into test mode to change driver. You found better alternative. Can you describe it more please?

i left clicked in the white space in device manager to make sure no specific option was checked then clicked action at the top and add legacy hardware and that allowed me to do it.
so, what would i now do?
EDIT..just realised this had changed the option for Android phone but not lemobile. when i left clicked lemobile and then action and add legacy hardware, no single sooner in the available options it was just - android adb interface, android adb recover interface, android bootloader interface, android composite adb interface, lemobile composite adb interface.
i have chosen android bootloader interface. now i have set those both up as best i could i tried the minimal adb fastboot, chose to right click the cmd option and run as admin, then wrote fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxxx but it is still saying FAILED (remote: already fastboot unlocked)
thanks so far

[Q] Fastboot problem

hello,
I'm hoping someone here can help me sort out my current problem.
I've been trying to root so I can install the latest ICS port, but having problems at the Fastboot screen.
I apologize in advance if some of the references/names I'm using are incorrect.
So, I had originally unlocked my Nexus S sometime early this year. When I restart the phone, the "unlocked" lock picture shows up under the "Google" words, and when I go into fastboot mode, the Lock State is Unlocked.
I'm running 2.3.6 right now on the Tmobile version of the phone.
When the phone is on (not in fastboot mode), I can execute ADB commands and the device is recognized. As soon as I go into fastboot it isn't.
I'm running 64bit Win 7, and I have gone through the various threads that have listed this issue, and installed PDA Net drivers and still there is no solution.
In Fastboot mode, while connected to computer under device manager, it shows up under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as an Unknown Device... I'm unable to update any drivers for it, and even when I try to manually update the drivers by going to the PDANet drivers it does not allow it.
When the phone is on in regular mode in device manager it shows up as Android Phone and within that it has a listing called Android Composite ADB Interface.
As mentioned above, when phone on in regular mode everything is detected.
I installed clockwork app from market, assuming that the phone was "rooted" based on the "unlock state" in fastboot mode, but it immediately says that phone needs to be rooted because it was unable to find SuperUser file etc etc.
I've spent the better part of a few days trying to figure this out by checking all sorts of links, but I haven't found a solution. The main issue is that the phone is not being recognized when in fastboot mode when connected by USB. And I'm unable to install the proper drivers for fastboot mode.
Hopefully this makes sense, and someone can provide some insight.
Thanks in advance!
I'm not positive about this but couldn't you adb push the su binary and apk? I don't own the Nexus but I would think since its unlocked you could just push the files. If this would work I would think it's just a temporary solution to allow superuser permission. As I understand it, fastboot is the preferred method for the Nexus.

Did you try a fastboot command like fastboot devices?
Don't know if this applies to you but I had a similar sounding problem when trying to root my Nexus S where everytime I booted into fastboot mode I had an error message at the bottom of the screen saying something like 'fastboot status-fail Invalid command' and so I couldn't use any fastboot functions.
To get around it I used this one-click root . For some reason I got an error message halfway through for whatever reason and it wouldn't complete the root for me but it booted me into fastboot without receiving the error message and then once I was in I went and rooted manually.
The CWM is out of date on that site though (possibly the super-user zip too) so I replaced them with the latest versions and popped it in my dropbox for you, if you wanna try it out.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47770734/One-Click-Nexus-S.zip
Edit: just had a little look through the bat script and the initial commands that got me into fastboot properly is (with your phone in debugging mode):
adb start-server
adb reboot bootloader
Click to collapse
So you could try that first if you wanna go through manually.
Know that you can't run adb command while in fastboot mode. Boot into your CWM and then you can start an adb shell and you'll be able to push all the files you want and execute all the commands you need.
Fastboot mode is for running fastboot indeed. Try 'fastboot devices' while you're in the bootloader and see if devices pop up. If not, you really have to figure out your drivers issue. Maybe remove the device completely from your PC (including driver files) and reinstall it using the PDAnet drivers.

Device not being detected in recovery mode?

I'm trying to install the 4.4.1 update but my device isn't being detected in recovery mode and thus adb sideload is not working. Would really appreciate some help. I've tried almost every solution that I've googled and nothing seems to be working.
I had a similar issue. Found the naked drivers and they seemed to work after uninstalling the other drivers and rebooting my PC.

Any chance you could post those drivers? Mine works fine, but it would certainly help others if you could post them, or at least post a link to where you found them.
You just need the Google drivers from their website:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
I had to force the installation of the drivers for the "AOSP on Hammerhead" device in the device manager.
I couldn't even get the device to show until I pressed VolUp in recovery and selected the ADB option in the recovery.
I used USB ADB Composite Interface or something like that by pointing the device manager's Update Driver dialog to the USB drivers from the SDK that EddyOS pointed at.
Windows 7 x64
Yep, had issues with my work PC (Win 7 Pro x64) - had to manually point Device Manager to the android_winusb.inf so it would find the drivers. Bit of a ballache but all working after that!

ADB isn't enabled on stock recovery, and sideload is not the same thing. From Google's POV, ADB access on recovery would be a heavy security risk, since you can still access recovery even with your bootloader locked. That's why they created sideloading.

ADB Server may not be enabled, but ADB obviously is, otherwise you wouldn't be able to connect in order to Sideload, which you can certainly do with stock recovery (even with a locked bootloader). Also, if ADB wasn't available on the device, it wouldn't show up with the "ADB Devices" command.
Now, maybe you mean it's not available once you boot into recovery until you select "apply update from ADB." That may be true (not sure), but that's not what I got from your statement.

Try it. Select "apply update from ADB", and then try to get a ADB prompt like you would normally, you know, ls /sdcard/, something.

Can't unlock bootloader after upgrade

Hi
My phone is international NXT-L29
I was on Ephemeral B180 rom but i decided to upgrade it to get emui 4.1
I flashed back stock b180 rom, and after I flashed stock b321 rom
ROM works great but i would like to get root and twrp back again, but everytime I try to go through fastboot i get this screen on picture.
I logged into my dc unlocker again and followed the procedures (manufacture mode, unlocking,...) and dc unloccker tool informs that the phone was unlocked...but no, when I do adb reboot bootloader i still get the same message on the picture.
I saw other suggestions here on XDA, i confirm oem unlock is activated on developer options...i made factory reset and then "vol+- power" (with or without phone connected to PC) but i dont't get any option to unlock bootloader. I always arrive to a menu saying that the phone is looking for upgrade and tries until 5% is reached... (if I keep waiting it does not fisplat error message, only waits and waits and after a while it reboots normally (i don't have any dload folder either on phone or sd card)
Any suggestion to solve this is highly appreciated
many thanks

I retrived my code from DC Unlocker (it has an option to read bootload code) but the problem is thar when I get de Fastboot&Rescue Mode the phone does not react to any command i can type on PC
Can I replace the stock boot.img that comes inside the UPDATE.APP file byone decrypted boot image of same rom?
If that would be possible then flashing this "modified" UPDATE.APP would solve the problem?
Many Thanks

Check if the device isnfound by the computer. Restart in fastboot mode then on your computer type "fastboot devices" you should get a device and its serial. If you're not getting anything its a driver issue.

Shield K1 Tablet isn't recognized by fastboot

Good afternoon everyone
I got my K1 for Christmas and I've been trying to root it for a few days but I can't get that far because I can't get the bootloader unlocked.
I've been following the guide based off of Nvidia's website
I've activated USB Debugging mode as seen here . Now once I've authorized the PC using the tablet. Once I run cmd in administrator mode I run
Code:
adb devices
I am able to get the serial and it says it's authorized. However if I go into Fastboot. if I check for devices it just goes back to the prompt, and if I try to run the unlock command it just gets stuck on <waiting for devices> (I've attached a screenshot here.)
At first I thought this was an issue with the OS/Drivers because I am on Win10 x64, and the shield drivers gave some error about driver incompatibility. So I loaded up a VM with win7 x32. However I am running into the exact same issue once I get to fastboot; the tablet just doesn't want to cooperate. I've booted into fastboot manually Where the options are:
Code:
[nvtboot] (version UNDEF_BUILD)
[bootloader] (version UNDEF_BUILD)
Device - locked
Continue
Fastboot Protocol
Recovery Mode
Restart
Poweroff
Nothing is recognized from there either. I've also tried multiple cables, since the Shield doesn't come with any. Anyways I've searched the older threads here for help but none of them have given me any luck. If there's something I can try I would definitely be open to hearing it and trying, I just don't know what the issue could be.
Thanks for your time everyone.
You have boot into the bootloader before being able to use fastboot. Just reboot your device and hold vol- during startup. The tablet will show some console messages, offering some options. If you see that screen, you can use fastboot.

Hey there, sorry for my late reply, I've been swamped with work. I've tried your advice with no luck so far.
I can reboot to the bootloader, but when I select "fastboot protocol" I don't get to choose Select on/yes. it just refreshes the screen with the same options that I listed above. If you'd like when I get home I can provide a screenshot of my tablet so you can see the options, but I'm not getting anything like you described. Am I missing something?
Thank you for your time so far helping me.

fastboot devices
/Enable fastboot protocol on k1, type again/

Give here screenshot from pc - all command/answers in cmd. @bob3rt

Hey Sorry again for a late response! However the good news is that I got it working!
What I ended up doing was hooking up the tablet to my Raspberry Pi with MATE and running adb/fastboot there. I originally ran into the same issue, but since I was able to sudo fastboot everything was recognized and seemed to work fine. I appreciate all of your help, and I apologize once again for the late replies!
For those that don't have a Raspberry Pi to follow the OP solution (like me), it's likely that your drivers aren't up to date on your PC.
Go here... https://docs.nvidia.com/gameworks/content/devices/shield_flashing_from_image.htm
And follow the initial instructions in the introduction paragraph and get yourself NVIDIA CodeWorks for Android. Once downloaded and installed you'll then see the shield in your fastboot devices list.

Botched Graphene install on Pixel 3A - need help restoring default settings

Hello,
I am hoping for some advice on how to revert my phone back to its original "factory settings" after a botched instal of GrapheneOS onto an unlocked Google Pixel 3A.
I got to the point at which I needed to Flash the Graphene Rom to the phone, but rather than installing, I received a message from Smart Screen MS edge asking if I really wanted to run as it's protecting my PC - I clicked run anyway and a blank command line window appeared for a second. Now my pc doesn't seem to be recognising the pixel 3A when I type ADB devices. My phone is currently in Fastboot mode "unlocked" and I'm hoping for some advice on what to do next. I'm total noob, so unsure how to start the process over (return the phone to it's previous state) before, maybe, trying again on a different PC.
I have since turned on my phone and Android 11 is still present and seems to work fine (however it gives me a warning on startup that the bootloader is unlocked.
Any help would be very much appreciated - thank you in advance.
Is all what happened that your phone now:
complains about "'maybe not safe bootloader unlocked".
This is just what android does when the bootloader is unlocked.
This you did before trying the flash.
If you want the warning gone simply lock it again.
However if you into the market for graphene OS then I would recomend: along with following their guide to a t to also read up here on xda about the general rooting unlocking thing a bit more so you get the overall process a bit better perhaps next time.
About windows. There are so many tools out there to help ya with disabling some of it's spying, turning off smartscreen, auto - uploads of all your data to M$oft, etc etc.
It's not hard to find.
Thanks for the response - I think I've worked out what is going on.
Typing ADB devices, my PC recognises the phone until I put it into fastboot mode - typing adb devices when in fastboot comes back with nothing and therefore when I try to flash, I assume the devices aren't talking to each other.
Not sure if there's a work around or whether it's a case of finding a new PC to try it on?
Thanks again.

try another USB port first; use USB 2.0 if available! Reinstall google ADB drivers, make sure to use latest!
If above will not help:
on your computer: open device manager; on your phone: put your phone into fastboot; connect your phone to the computer WHILE keeping an eye on device manager; as soon as you'll connect your phone new device will appear in device manager ("unknown device" most likely but it might be some "android device" or "ADB device" too); right click it —> update driver —> automatic driver update worked in most cases for me, if not, go manual way and select google's "android fastboot device" (or something like that, can't remember actual name of the device); after driver install confirmation you should be good to go

thats if I am not wrongly remembering my experience:
because now your phone is in fastboot mode thus it won't show up with that command anymore.
Try: 'fastboot devices'
I imagine you put it into fastboot through: 'reboot fastboot' when you where in adb?
When in fastboot you can go on and flash the recovery and such.
Are you still in need of help here?
Hey, thanks for the clarification - been away and so haven't implemented all suggestions, yet.
I typed "adb reboot booloader" which I assumed put it into fastboot mode and then unlocked it using "fastboot flashing unlock".
I tried fastboot devices but the PC still doesn't see the phone. I'm going to try the update usb driver suggested by Tamsta_T and see how it goes.
Thanks for your help.
