Device administrator prevents fingerprint reader from working - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I have an issue arfter updating to nougat. If I turn off the screen using an app which is also a device administrator, then my fingerprint reader doesn't unlock my phone. I have to enter my pin to unlock phone.
Is there any way to get rid of this? On MM there was no issue like that!
Thanks in advance.

Same for me with nougat. When i was on mm there wasn't any problem at all.

It's especially annoying when you use an app like "screen off and lock" to switch off your display via a nova launcher gesture.
It's because this app uses the device administrator permission to lock the screen.
But I found a workaround :
The built in EMUI 5 flashlight (!) provides a shortcut to lock the screen. When I lock the screen using this shortcut, the fingerprint sensor works!
Edit : It also work if you set a nova gesture to this shortcut.

I was about to say. That's just a nougat thing, nothing much that Huawei can do about it...
But they were awesome and gave us back the lock screen shortcut they had back in 3.1 (not sure why they removed it)
It works perfectly, and also works as a shortcut for custom launchers that support it.

Sadly the only way to bypass this is with root. It's apart of the security that they introduced to Nougat.

Or you can use the built-in shortcut.

Thanks! I updated my Lock app to support this shortcut.
I still need a way to programmatically check if user is on EMUI 5. Please help me if you know how to check that.

The fingerprint is working when we use float dock. So try it

Hi, I just updated to Oreo an the flashlight shortcut doesn't work anymore. Any hint?

You need to have Wake Gesture Support in your Kernel to use this app.
@flar2
Any chance you can check if this is a bug or not why its not working for me:
I have set a wake gesture to direct dial a contact. Tried up/down/left/right. All it does is wake the phone up, but does not bring up dialer. All the rest of shortcuts work, even in place of direct dial. If I make a widget on home screen with same direct dial contact it works... I click on it, it brings up google voice option to dial with gvoice or not and then dials. Through wake g no work.

Did you try to open the app and see what it shows on the main (and only) screen?? You can see also the screenshots in this thread.
There is no rocket science involved- it allows you to select the gesture type, then choose what you want it to do. For example, try the "sweep up" gesture, then you have to choose between action, app or shortcuts. Action can be something like "turn screen on", application will allow you to choose from list of your installed apps (I.e. launch Google maps), and so on.
It's quite self explanatory stuff, really.
Thank for this app very helpful
Dude, you're a genius. I know why I always stick to your Kernels on all of my Nexus devices, simply the best!
Somehow the bypassing of the lockscreen doesn't work. Anyone with n5 got the same problem?
Nexus 6 here, I can confirm that. Other than that, everything works fine.
I don't know if its a bug. But after the timeout of double tap to wake of 'x' minutes the screen turns on and off for a sec.

This is not a bug, its as per design. So once the timeout is reached the screen flashes and disable the gestures.

Due to Android security restrictions an app has no access to user input if it's not running in foreground. So overlay etc to run the drawer or action without switching activities. I hope this clarifies, thanks.
Just bought a Pro version. Thanks!
Anyway, is there any easy way to restart the app if I have changed some settings?

Most of the settings should refresh without app restart. To fully make all settings effective you can close the Gesture drawer with back button on device and reopen it.

Method to Make Raise to Wake up (like) feature on Samsung S7 and other android phones

Today , I am gonna share my personal experience with S7.
When I first use S7 , I missed the "Tap on Fingerprint to unlock" feature of Huawei Mate 7 , also the feature of "Double tap to sleep" of my LG G2.
After some research I found the easiest way to combine the feature from Mate 7 and G2.
So here we go:
step 1: Download the application named "KinScreen" from playstore.
step 2: Download the luncher named "Arrow Launcher" from playstore.
step 3: install luncher and set it as default luncher, open it and enable "Double tap screen to lock" (as shown as picture below), it will ask for device administrator permission just allow it.

}
step 4: open KinScreen app and set it as following picture (if not set by default)
step 5: Now to lock your phone just double tap on your home screen .
step 6: To unlock your phone just hover on your proximaty sensor (if you put your phone in pocket then when you take out from your pocket then it will automatically turn on.. Isn't it awesome.
step 7: Best benifit, If you enabled the Fingerprint unlock on your phone , then when you take out from your pocket then screen will be automatically turn on , so you just have to tap on the home button, no need to press. These features are very good for Home button and Power button safety. Thank you guys for reading this post. And sorry for bad english
Hi,
Else, there is Nova Launcher app which do the same thing, with only one app
And in settings you'll find an option to wake up the phone just hovering your hand over the proximity sensor
Without using third part apps

I tried what you said, but it's not as useful as using "KinScreen" app. Because it will automatically turn on your phone after take out from pocket which is very convenient for me. Not like built in app which will only work, if you put your phone on flat surface and not fast as Kinscreen app.

I already tried Nova before, and I had seen double tap to sleep option, but no proximity uncover to screen on features available there. So you have to use KinScreen along with that luncher as well.

There is a much much much easier way to do this without any third party app. Just go to settings, accesability settings and find the option to wake the phone using proximity sensor (by hovering your hand over it). That way you have the same results as with your way, but you can set it up in under a minute without any extra apps/works.

Yes, that is what I meant. I am using it and I am totally satisfied with it. I love using standard Touchwiz launcher, other third party launcher make my phone feel "cheap" and like it is some other less good phone.

I am happy for you that option makes you satisfied, but for me no... I used above mentioned method because when I take out my phone from my pocket it will automatically turned on, without hovering the proximity sensor, but if I use your method then I have to take out my mobile from my pocket, put it in some flat surface and hover the proximity sensor, it's time consuming. But if I use my method then Phone will be automatically turn on, and I can place my finger on home button to unlock without pressing the button. You just give a shot may be you love what I suggest you ????

The only one launcher that I've found for this feature was Lawnchair v2 (from Playstore), also, does not mess up with Android 11 gestures.
I use the Double Tap but not sure if it will run on Q or higher.
On Playstore, no ads, no internet connection, very small, uses almost no battery and runs flawlessly.
2X tap on/off; I rarely use the power button.

I use the Double Tap but not sure if it will run on Q or higher.
On Playstore, no ads, no internet connection, very small, uses almost no battery and runs flawlessly.
2X tap on/off; I rarely use the power button.

No ads, and doesn't connect to internet.
It say it had ads but my download didn't.
Sets option as device administrator but you don't need to activate that for it to work.
Double Tap - Apps on Google Play
Easy to turn on/off screen without power. Not affected to unlock by fingerprint

I optimized things a little more and went for Single Tap (haha). I'm using "Turn Off Screen" from the Play Store. Basically a nice little "Lock" icon on the home screen. Click... screen is off.
Turn Off Screen (Screen Lock) - Apps on Google Play
One tap to turn screen off and lock. Works with Fingerprint, Touch ID, Face ID.

I blew that one off because it connects with the internet. Has Administrator permissions, right?
Not a good idea if so.
Double Tap never connects and has no ads.
Currently "Turn Off Screen (Lock Screen)" is running great and has "No Permissions Granted".
