Well, ive been having signal/call quality problems and a broken speakerphone so I decided to exchange the phone for a brand new one.
On this new phone the speakerphone still doesn't work (the other person can't make out what im saying at all). Both phones have had this same problem, why does HTC not fix this?
By dialing *#*#4636#*#* I have switched the network to edge only and now get 3 bars instead of 1 in my house. Im hoping this fixes the call quality problem Im having.
Depending on how my call quality is over the next week, I may go back and see if I can pay the difference and get an Atrix.
Tell them you're having signal issues @ home and you'd like one of the microcells. That will alleviate your signal issue while there. The speaker phone, I dunno, mine has worked just fine on both of my Inspires.

Ive read different reviews and it seems very hit or miss as to whether or not they will give you one for free or charge $100-$150. Do you have any experience with it?
Called ATT, they sent updates to my phone supposedly, I seem to be maybe getting 1 more bar in H+ but not consistently. He told me to call a store and tell them you're having problem and ask about the microcell. Would be nice to get that for free, but still bummed about my speakerphone.
if you've only got one bar of signal, it could be the reason your call quality could be so low- may not be much an issue with speakerphone at all... does the other side hear you without trouble when using a headset or the phone itself?
and i'd assume you're using the stock rom that at&t ships- maybe you could install the volume+ app and tweak your speakerphone settings?
Which setting cuz for me it just yes back to hspda

The speakerphone doesn't work even when I have 3-5 bars. I will be talking to them fine, and then once its on speaker they say "what what, i cant really hear you" and then once i take speaker off they can hear me fine. Both stock phones have been like this? I will check out the volume+ app

speakerphone TERRIBLE
I have also had major problems with the speakerphone on my phone since I bought it. I think I am right around the 30 day return point, but I have been to lazy to return it to stock and take it back. Not sure if it is a hardware problem or if the phone is just like this. I asked my friend who has the same phone, and he said he didn't notice a problem.
It's like the mic input is way too sensitive, so when I put someone on speakerphone whatever they say gets looped back into the mic and echos VERY loudly back to them. Absolutely impossible to have a conversation with speakerphone on which is very annoying because I prefer it most of the time.
I can also notice that the problem exists when I use Soundhound. I can play a song at an extremely low volume and the input meter on Soundhound is always completely maxed out. If the song is at a normal volume, it often won't be able to detect which sound it is because it must be coming in too loudly. So I have to turn the volume way down and try again.
Is this not a normal thing on the HTC Inspire? Has no one noticed this? Or am I having some sort of hardware problem?
Can anyone think of a way to fix it, such as a mic input level adjust?
Thanks.
I exchanged my phone 3 times at ATT because of cell signal and call quality to later find out they are working on the towers in my area - so they say. I had 3-4 bars of service about 2 months ago and now i'm down to 1-2.
In the end, I threatened to switch to verizon and ended up walking out of the store with a free microcell. - I've also been on a ATT Premier Business Acct. for the past 5 years - so that might of helped.
Call quality on the Microcell is superb. Some of my text messages don't want to go out the first time and I have to resend but other then that its pretty good.

- Also, depending on your ROM, Radio, RIL combination - you may have the wrong Radio for the ROM you are using. I had a few different ROMS installed and the radio provided clear call quality on my end but on receiving end they stated that there was a echo. I switched radios and flashed the appropriate RIL and the problem went away.

The mic for the speaker phone is on the back.. when you use the speakerphone, you have to talk to the back of your phone.. not the bottom.. if you talk to the bottom mic they wont be able to hear you. This has been talked about on these boards countless times. search
It's just as the title states my nexus s sound isn't working! There isn't any sound at all. Ringtone/notification/media.
When i receive a phone call my phone vibrates but it doesn't ring and when i pick up the phone i can't hear the person i'm speaking to and they can't hear me either.
Had my phone since mid-october,and the first time i encountered this issue is when i put ICS on my phone at the end of december and its been an on and off thing since then but it would last for like 2-3 mins, and it used to be fixed by putting my phone on vibrate, lock it, unlock, turn the volume back up and it would work but that doesn't work anymore i even reverted back to GB and it didn't solve anything
so WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS ? also, do you think it's a hardware or software issue ?
forgot to add whenever i try to use google voice search it crashes
If you plug in headphones, can you hear music? Were you using custom ROM or Stock? Have you tried installing a custom ROM with a complete wipe (factory reset)?
I'd put my money on software. Full wipe (data/factory reset, format /system, format /boot) and then flash your preferred ROM. See if it works after this.

Yup, even with headphones there isn't any sound and it first occurred on a custom ICS rom and yesterday I flashed 2 more custom roms with a complete wipe still no progress

You may be the very unlucky owner of a dead Wolfson chip in the phone. Is the phone still under 1 year old? Might be time to give samsung a ring and hope for the best. If you do decide to take it in, remember to flash a stock ROM and lock the bootloader.
Maybe someone else on the forum has an idea to help you though, but so far i'm afraid chances look slim. You could possibly try heating behind the battery a little with a hairdryer (not too much) and see if it would work afterward, it could just be a dry solder joint on the audio chip, but you'd still want it fixed.

*sigh* I feared that its a hardware issue and as far as warranty goes I bought it in 11/2011 and it was bought used so how much would it cost to get that fixed ? Also I restored my phone on a custom 2.3.6 from then rebooted my phone and the sound was working, then after a hour of inactivity, then I rebooted my phone and it started working and got greedy and flashed another rom then the sound was cut off again so should I have hope and try your method of drying ?
I have the same problem. Samsung Infuse 4g. I'm back to stock. Tried everything including GTG and Heimdall. (sigh) Sux. I hope u get urs working again, as I do mine. Saw another post where somebody dropped theirs and it starting working again. Better start praying... Good luck to u!
^^^^^^ i'm about to drop mine for an experiment lol
Hard to say how much. Might be easier to replace the whole board or just one chip, or just because it's too much trouble to find the problem. Also depends on shipping as you'd have to pay to send it to samsung, unless they have some kind of repair centre nearby where you can drop it off - and you'd likely be left without your phone for a couple weeks.
I'd be ringing samsung and asking all of this first. Afterward you may be able to get some quotes from a phone repairer if they can find the problem. These days it's often "throw it away and get a new one", and i'm afraid it's largely the same with phones despite what would be only minor problems/fixes.
OK, y'all. I've got news and info on this issue. First, i have the Samsung Infuse 4g. After trying everything possible short of throwing it into the river, I figured it was def hardware related. I, of course prayed & am convinced that is the real reason it started working, bit jic here is what I did. I checked online just to see (I'm not an idiot, I wasn't going to take it apart. Well, probably not). But I was still all for slapping and twisting and flicking the heck out of it. Then, I decided to look at the other side of it. So I removed the battery and there is a tiny little slit-like hole there. I got out a safety pin and just kinda wiggled of a bit mostly toward the inside of phone. Lo and behold sound was working when I turned it back on. I can't believe it! I'm so happy!

So im running CM7 i believe and it is rooted everything is good on my phone just a couple of quick questions about things that seem to be annoying me.
1. Does anyone else's phone seem to heat up pretty quickly with extended use? For example if i've got the screen on and I'm texting for like an hour straight it gets pretty warm to a hot sensation right on the metal part that holds the SIM card in and the SD card. The phone also heats up when its charging too, i'm assuming that is normal.
2. I have ADW Launcher and the Cyanogen Mod or whatever it's called. The issue is that when I'm playing music and get a text my audio will completely pause (but the song keeps going) and then keep going which tends to get annoying when I'm enjoying a part of the song and I miss it entirely because of a notification. I've tried to set it up so that it ducks the audio 4db but it doesn't seem to work for me. Does anyone know how to fix this?
3. Sometimes when I receive texts i can hear it through my speakers of my computer coming but my phone will never fully "receive" it so it sits in limbo forever. Does this happen to anyone else?
4. Battery problems, it seems to die a little quicker than i'd like. I've got it on the lowest brightness, no internet, no bluetooth, no gps, wifi usually on but when i'm not near a wifi hotspot i turn it off. Is there a solution to this?
Thanks for any help in advance

Overheating is pretty much the norm on the G2X. Perhaps there are other ways to deal with this, but one way for sure is to go to settings-->applictions-->development and click stay awake. This reduces the overheating while charging. If you get a lot of overheating it might be the battery.

Also, once a phone is unlocked it is unlocked for good right? Even if i put different ROMs and such? Cause i bought this phone 2 months ago unlocked with it rooted and flashed with this stuff. I'm asking because I'm scared that if i try putting a different ROM on it that won't be unlocked anymore. I don't know the unlock code or anything lol
Edit: And i know the G2X camera is bad so I'm wondering if there is a way to make it permantly increase the exposure to +1 or +2 instead of me having to change that every time i open the camera app or is that not possible?
also im thinking of ditching the g2x all together for the samsung galaxy s2 do you guys think it is worth it? I don't know if the S2 has any problems as bad as this phone. It's going to cost me 100 dollars to upgrade to it in the end. Thoughts?? or maybe the samsung galaxy nexus

If your phone was unlocked (not the same as rooted) it will stay that way. ROM away as you wish.
Unlocked = can use on any SIM based carrier
Rooted = means you can do whatever you want to your phone software-wise.
I myself have the heat problem but it was partially fixed when I decided to mess the overclocking and undervolting made available by custom kernels. To fully fix this problem with my phone overclocked to 1.4ghz and undervolted I took some aluminium foil layered a few pieces together and cut it to the size of the back. I added a bit of extra aluminium to where the sim is because it seems like that is where most of the heat comes from and now my phone becomes warm but not warm to the touch now that it can disparate heat faster.
Very nice idea but wouldn't the aluminium retain the heat to the battery causing it to overheat

I don't know but I have not had any problems with it so far and its been almost 3-4 months with this small mod.
I rooted a friend sgs2 for him. its through sprint. so far it doesn't seem very great semi laggy and I would not want 1. Sprint internet seems very slow as well. My g2x puts his sgs2 to shame. I did leave him on stock rom though so maybe it would be better if I souped it up

I've had this Mytouch 4g slide for about 9 months now. It has been good so far, except for the fact that no matter what ROM I'm running on it, and no matter what the T-mobile signal quality on it is, I get poor microphone performance.
What I mean by that is that every few seconds, the microphone becomes completely muffled, and then restores clarity a few seconds later....
Is this something on my side with settings, t-mobiles side, or a faulty phone? It seems odd that the mic would work 100% for a minute, and then die for a few seconds later.
Perhaps I need to update a Kernal or something? I'm running what seems to be 2.6.35.14-cyanogenmod [email protected] #10
The Rom itself is Virtuous Inquisition v4.0.2, but I've tried CM and other ones as well.
Baseband is 10.48.9007.00U_10.12.9007.07_2M
Thanks for any help y'all can provide!
If it goes ROM to ROM and is constant from the same device my bet is hardware.
I had nearly the same thing happen with a GS4G I got on warranty replacement for my original MT4G.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I actually just had this start happening to my phone. I've had it for just about a year now and had 0 problems with the mic. I was swapping some roms around 2 days ago. I made some phone calls and people kept asking if they were on speaker phone. I decided it may be the new ROM I was testing so I restored my backup and called them back. They said it sounded better but still not right. In fact one thought they were on speaker phone immediately before I could ask.
I use an Aegis case and have only dropped the phone a few times. If it's a hardware issue I'd say it failed on its own. Although since it traveled with the ROM change I can only conclude that it is indeed hardware.

Any suggestions on how to do this? I'm worried something like compressed air would push dirt farther in. If I use something to actually push in the hole I'm concerned I'd cause damage to the Mic.
So, WHats up guys?
Finally jumped back on the Pixel train and got my 7 Pro last night. After all the fun updates i noticed that when i make a call now, there is a strange opening of a call with a tiny bit of static and then it goes to normal. Anyone else experience this? It doesn't hinder the call in any way, i just found it strange.

Hi Avid_droid.
Yes, you are not alone in this regard.
I don't know if it's a coincidence, but my wife threw my cell phone from the table (half a meter more or less), and since then the following happens to me:
I make a call and I hear some interferences, something like "Clack clack", sometimes there are many, sometimes only 1 ... sometimes none ... it's very strange.
However, I think it has nothing to do with the drop... maybe it used to happen to me before and I didn't notice.
Sometimes I can go days without hearing that interference, and I think that everything is fine, but I hear it again. I have restored the phone several times and that does not solve anything.
Fortunately, it's not something that prevents me from making calls or using the phone normally, but when you spend a lot of money on a phone you get screwed by these things.
The bad thing about this is that I have read that if you talk to Google they will send you a refurbished phone, plus you will be 1 week or more with nothing.... I think I'll live with this problem (if it doesn't get worse).

Yes, it's not the end of the world, but I have to say I'm very disappointed with the overall call quality.
I have an old Huawei mate 20 that has much better call quality than the Pixel, .. and it's a 2018 phone!
Resignation.
Finally, and after a few days in which the problem was more frequent, I have decided to use the google warranty and return it for repair. I've upgraded to an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I guess I'll sell the Pixel 7 Pro if it comes back repaired correctly.

Exactly the same sound occurs to me sometimes just occasionally to remind me that it exists

PSA
Absolutely loving the phone. Near 24hr after a charge with 24% left but i forgot to check SOT but im sure it was close to 6hrs which is good for me.

Yes, mine does this as well. I've noticed it but not paid attention to it til i read this yesterday. I thought it was my Pixel Buds Pro (Which take FOREVER to connect when I take one out of the case to answer a call) - but today I'll try to use the phone itself to answer calls and see if it's still there

Sorry.. I think you are right about this.
I actually think the Pixel 7 Pro looks like a better phone to me than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but I bought one for a bit of a change of scenery.
I really regret it, I will surely return the iPhone 14 Pro Max if the Pixel 7 arrives repaired. I hope so.
After several days in RMA, Google has sent me an email telling me that the phone had an AUDIO problem and that it will be repaired.
Which seems strange to me because the audio in multimedia applications was perfect.... But well, when I have the phone in my hands I will tell you.
Well, the phone has arrived home. So far so good, although I have not tested it too much.
I will keep you informed.
EDIT :
After several calls, the problem continues. I'm throwing in the towel, I'm not going to go another week without a phone. As a bonus, I also have some dirt on the lenses, which I didn't have before.
I'll put up with this interference and strange noises on every call until I send the phone to hell in a few years.

May be a hardware issue. That's what it seemed like with mine. There is no static any more but the small pop is still there. Pop on my Buds Pro and issue is resolved. Now the watch is another piece of bad judgement. I'm on my second one and thank the creator they gave it to me for free. $349 for a watch that sounds like it has a badly blown speaker is hardly worth it. It does what I need it to do though, time and messages.

Latest news, Google is sending me a new terminal.
The truth is that I'm starting to be unconvinced about the purchase, and it is likely that I will end up buying an s23 ultra or similar.

For me now, there is nothing to complain of about the phone. I like mine. My wife has the 23U and I don't like it. It's slows way down and feels like a 60hz phone. Also with the load speeds, I don't like Sammy. I walk around all day withy Pixel 7 Pro and my 13 Pro Max everyday. Didnt like the esim thing either.
