I'm not sure if my phone is soft bricked or hard bricked. My phone was having some kind of firmware issues so like an idiot and not backing anything up, I tried to flash a stock firmware on my phone with odin and it failed. My phone is not rooted or anything it is complete stock and now when I try to boot up the phone I'm not sure if it goes into recovery automatically or what but when I turn it on it goes to this screen saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.". If this is not recovery mode then I can only go in download mode I have tried going into recovery mode. I've tried odin several times, using different usb cables and different usb ports on my computer and still nothing, I have used Samsung Kies and Kies 3 they both fail and then tell me that I need to do emergency recovery from another computer with a code but it is just blank when it comes up it does not give me any codes. I've even went to Tools > Emergency firmware recovery and still shows no codes or anything it is still blank.
Suggestions?
I fixed it, for anyone who may have the similar problem this will help you: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/guide-sm-s975l-twrp-4-4-2-custom-roms-t3009757
For me, all I needed to do was flash twrp recovery and my phone started working again so I decided not to mess with anything else

Hi,
my friend's Nexus S was stuck in a bootloop. i went into recovery mode and hard reset the phone, so that the phone would come back to stock. however, the phone was being reset when the battery of the phone came off, switching it off.
the phone fails to start. there is no response when i try charging it. Also, it does not go into DOWNLOAD mode or FASTBOOT, so i cant even run any utilities to flash the stock rom back. adb commands as well as the nexus toolkit show that there is no device connected.
can anybody suggest me what to do?? i was gonna try odin but i read somewhere that it is only useful for custom recoveries, not to flash stock roms.
i've gotten some usb drivers mentioned at some thread, saying i would have to update my 'android' device listed in the device manager using them, but i cant seem to find any device mentioned in my device manager either.
any suggestions as to what i should do??

Something like this happened to me a week ago. I have Nexus S 4G. So, I ordered USB Jig from usbjig.com and now I have download mode. It worked!
You can buy USB Jig from that site, or build it yourself, or borrow it from someone.
So I recently did a factory restore on my S3 for verizon after trying to get the ota update, and for some reason when i connect my device to my laptop it will disconnect randomly.
Now it booted to a screen that says firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please use software repair assistant & try again.
The problem is I tried that and it always gets to like 98% and then it says the phone is disconnected. I can't restart the phone as it always goes back to this screen...
I had flashed a stock recovery and did a factory reset, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
I tried to do an emergency firmware restore in kies, but kies won't even recognize my device.
WHAT DO I DO

Is it possible you have issue with your cable.cable pin? or you can try a different usb port. Did you try the ODIN method?

I have 3 USB ports. 2 are 3.0, 1 is 2.0. If I even try to put it in the 2.0 it won't recognize. It's not the cable pin because I use it for charging and it works perfectly fine.
I've tried doing emergency firmware recovery in Kies but it never completes because it says there was an error. Maybe it's because it won't let me in recovery mode?
Also what is the ODIN method?

Download Odin here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722686 and use Odin to flash full factory firmware.
since you wanted to get onto 4.3 anyway this will help you. I added how to enter download mode just for you.

I've searched for nearly 12 hours and tried several methods, but since this is an older device a lot of threads and links are dead. I was hoping someone could give me advice here, and I did use the search but to no avail.
The situation is I have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (GT-P5113) and it's stuck on the logo and the sound it boots up cuts out half way (wondering if it's a hardware issue). I can boot into Download Mode and I have the drivers for it on my computer. The problem I'm having is USB Debug wasn't enabled. Is there a way I can flash through Odin3 and which version should I use? This device isn't rooted either. Any help or advice would ease my mind.

download a copy of your device stock firmware, if you already have it, flash it with odin, there is no specific version of odin, it works on all as long as your device gets connected and shows in odin you are fine.
regarding the hardware issue, it might be or it might be not, you can only be sure after successfully flashing a stock firmware file.
it won't need any USB Debug option for flashing stock firmware so you are safe to flash.
If odin does not work you may try going to the recovery and perform a factory reset and delete cache
Ok. So I was attempting to unroot my phone earlier, so I downloaded a stock firmware and used odin to put it on my phone (don't know the technical term). When is was going through all of the things in odin, it said it failed and said 'Complete(Write) operation failed'. I then tried to download a stock firmware from another site, and the same error popped up. I kept retrying and sooner or later I realised that my phone was saying that there was an error updating and I need to use emergency recovery thing in smart switch. I tried this, and neither smart switch, or Kies recognised my device. I then tried to use odin to flash this TWRP thing I have from something I did a while ago. This worked somewhat as I can now access this thing call team win recovery project. I can also enter download mode. Does anyone know how to help me?
Thanks
I have a rooted S7 with TWRP recovery on it and i recently deleted my OS by accident as i was just trying to reset my phone to factory settings. Now the only thing i can do is boot into recovery mode and download mode, or i can just get stuck at a boot loop.
I have googled and googled and seen so many ways to try and fix this issue but nothing has worked for me. Heres a list of the issues i have and what i've tried so far. [Using Windows 10]
Installing Odin (3.12.3) and stock Samsung firmware from here.
Installing the necessary USB drivers from here.
My PC wont recognize my samsung device in either modes (recovery/download) and Odin wont recognize my phone either, as well as i cant find anything under "Device Manager".
Tried using ADB to transfer files to my S7 but when i activate ADB in recovery mode it just loads for a couple of seconds until it displays an error with no explanation.
I even tried downloading ADB drivers and necessary tools i got from this guide.
I also tried wiping Dalvik cache and cache.
I have tried three different USB cables on all available USB slots on my desktop PC and the one USB slot in my Surface and nothing works.
I have tried rooting previous phones but I'm still new to this rooting thing and there's a lot i don*t understand. Perhaps i downloaded the wrong USB drivers, or maybe I'm just unlucky. I just really need some help to understand how to fix this. If it can't be fixed is it possible to remove all traces of rooting on my phone?
The phone needs to be in Download Mode to use ODIN
The only sign it is connected is a COM port lit up at the top of the ODIN window
Add the .MD5 ROM to AP and hit start
