Wifi Extending DNS etc. - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hello together my problem is that i cannot change my dns ip for funkyhuawei.com in my router.
The only possible thing is that i take my android phone and make a hotspot with dns change and connect with a third device (huawei mate 9) But i dont have a data flatrate for my phone.
So my question is:
Is it possible to extend an existing WIFI Network with android phone, and then change the dns in the android phone, and then connect with a third device to my android phone ???
So that i have an "emulated" changed wifi network
Please help !!!

You might be able to pull it off but instead why don't you consider:
- Buy/borrow an old dd-wrt router and have it sit in the middle of your existing router and your Mate 9 ;
- Visit a friend and see if his router allows DNS changes at the router level ;
- Buy a one off pay&go SIM with enough data for what you want to achieve ;
- Use the HiSuite method.

hello thanks for the answer, but it is not very helpful.
its not possible. my router is fixed with my internet connection from the provider. i cannot connect a second router to my "provider router". it is locked from provider.
i dont want to pay for a sim card... if i want to download 2 times i have to buy data package again or a second sim, so it dont make sense...
please give me other solutions.

What about the HiSuite method? Then you would only need to change the DNS on your computer's network settings. Worked for me.

it is not possible when my phone is "bricked" i cannot boot into system.

Is this cable/xdsl or a 4G modem? If it has spare LAN ports I don't see why you wouldn't be able to plug a cheap router. What did they lock exactly?
Alternatively, do all your friends and family use the same provider? Can't you borrow some internet time from someone with a less restrictive modem/router?

wireless setting

Any one know how to reset ur wire less setting. Im haveing a ip address conflic I guess at work. Wont pull any internet . Problem is I have no way of changing it on work computer. So I need a diff ip adress.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I would think turning it off and back on should do it...Should grab a new ip address..that or statically map one. The DHCP server should be checking for an ip before giving you one so I think that just turning it off and on should fix it.
Tried that and tried forgetting but same ip .105.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Maybe try removing the network and adding it again will help.
D its see remove network but see forget network. That dont help either.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ok stilk no luck. Downloaded wifi static from market to change ip address and stil no luck. Either I don't know how to use the app or phones messed up on this router.
But I have the exact same router and can connect fine at home.8.8mbs at home
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well..the DHCP has the ip associated with your MAC address so everytime you turn on the wireless it asks the dhcp server for an address and the dhcp says..o hey I have one here already for you. If you turn off the wireless can you still ping the address? If so then the dchp may be set up wrong and not checking for dupes before giving the address out.
How would I ping my phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
O sorry no..I meant turn off the wireless on the phoine the go to a computer and ping the address from there. But..if you said it was a duplicate ip address ill just take your word. No idea then.
To the OP,
What's happening to your device? Are you able to successfully connect to your WiFi but not get any Internet data (browse the web, search YouTube, or use any programs that require internet)? Are you getting an error message saying there is a conflict?
This happened to me yesterday. While I didn't get any error messages, my Cap's WiFi was able to connect to my company's wireless router. However, I could not get online, search YouTube, update my Daily Briefing or use any programs that require the internet. It says it's connected however I'm not getting any internet data. I touch "Forget" and try again several times. I even did a factory reset and still no-go. I called Samsung and they put me through Level 2 Support. While waiting on the phone with the tech, it finally worked for no reason. I was dumbfounded with the tech. Weird!!!
Addendum: When I couldn't connect to my company's WiFi with WPA/WPA2 PSK, I went to another office to connect to an unsecured WiFi. It worked. I got on the internet. My WiFi with WEP at home works. However, the problem was with my company's WPA/WPA2 PSK security WiFi. I'm not sure if the security has something to do with the issue.
got it solved..seems I wasent using the wifistatic program correctly.
Also no security at work just open connection.
If some one needs the steps I used I can post later when I get home.

Please post your steps. This would be very useful. I am having similar problems at work wifi and I dont think it is the Captivate that has the issue.
Srry had stuff come up yesterday.
Any way download wifistatic from market. Make sure ur are seeing a access. Open wifi static and add config. It will set all settings. After it sets settings chang ip address number to a higher number like.120. Save it. Then go to ur phone wifi settings and hit the menu button and select advanced. Go in there and make sure the ip address u wanted and click save..
If it dont work after this then its not a ip address conflic..
Srry typing from phone.

sounds more like a router problem to me than a phone problem, try connecting it to a diff network.does the same happen?
What router are you using? Sounds like a router issue to me.
First thing to try is always a router power cycle. They can occasionally go nuts. Unplug for 30 seconds.
Second thing to try, log onto your router, and see what wifi protocols are set to. If it's set to B/G/N combined, try setting to G/N. (assuming you are not using B anymore!) If not using B or N, set it to G.
Third thing to try, disable Wireless Multimedia Extensions (WMM). Not sure where it'll be in you're router.

Have another thing to try...
You might not picking up gateway information from the router. The solution could be to configure a static IP address instead of using DHCP.
To do this do the following:
Go into Settings, then ‘Wireless & networks’ then ‘Wi-Fi settings’ then press 'menu' and select 'advanced', scroll down and select the 'static ip' box.
In the ‘IP address’ box enter the same IP address which is shown higher up the same form.
In the ‘Gateway’ box you will need to put the IP address of your router. To find this out I opened a command prompt window on a PC on the same network and typed ipconfig. This will give you a Default gateway address which is what you need.
In the the ‘Network prefix length’ box put 24 (this assumes the subnet mask from ipconfig is 255.255.255.0)
Finally in the DNS 1 box put the same IP you put in the Gateway box.
Now click Save, disconnect and reconnect from the network and when you are reconnected you should have internet access.

Erm, guys - you jumped in at the deep end, surely a restart is the first thing that should be tried.
A) Restart router
B) If not fixed, restart phone
C) Do what the above say
i have already done a power cycle on my phone and router..
i tried to set up astatic ip but now whenever i try to connect it says disconnected after trying to obtain ip address
help please....excuse my ignorance if i missed anyhting
EDIT: managed to get DNS to work will test and see and update you

HTC One X Stuck on "Obtaining IP address"

My phone keeps cycling obtaining IP address without ever getting one on my home network. It has previously worked fine on my home network for a little over a month now and the problem suddenly started yesterday. No other devices on my WiFi network has the problem. That used to happen to me all the time on my Kindle Fire, particularly after flashing a new rom. The fix was setting the date and time to automatic, but that may not apply here.

Depends on your network
DNS you get from your ISP, check router for it.
Prefix should be 24
IP whatever you set in the router ie 192.168.1.125
Gateway is whatever your router is ie 192.168.1.1
Google setting up static ip network it will help explain it and over at ddwrt they have pictures to help... very easy stuff. PM if you want/need help

You can try to turn off auto-DLNA..
It may causing device to configured itself under private ip range..
Same problem. Using stock rom. Tried static ip but not works.
This problem is a software problem? Or hardware?
This doesn't apply to my device now but on my previous HTC this would happen quite frequently I think it's more of a software bug then firmware it would seem that the drivers for the antenna are hit or miss

I had this issue and my phone wouldn't connect to any router "obtaining ip address" forever. Mind you my phone was 5days old, so took it right back to Rogers for a new exchange. My HOX is now perfect and connects to all wifi without issues.
Did you possibly enter the wrong spa password, then re enter it correctly and now you are having this problem?
If so, try this ... works on most Androids.
Click where it says obtaining IP address, the press "Forget"
Turn off Wifi.
Go Into Hone Settings > Power and disable Fast Boot.
Now power off the phone ...not restart.
Leave the phone off six minutes and not a moment less.
Then power up and try again.
Be careful to enter your wpa password correctly on the first try.
If still same problem try rebooting router.
Also consider installing SmartSync Disabler which can be found here on xda and at the google play store.
That app should solve the remaking wifi annoyance affecting these one x phones
the employer blocked the WIFI from employees (obtaining the ip address issue)
we cant access the WIFI in the hotel at where we work and although there are a password you put at the hotel's WIFI website but they did something lately to all of us and it is when any of the staff open the WIFI on his mobile it just keep showing obtaining IP address and no result so if you guys could help me in this and do i have to get a new phone or to try hiding my IP i tried a lot of apps but no way plz help

As the title say I want to know if there is a way to turn on WiFi hotspot without turning off WiFi I saw this feature in one of my friend's phone he was running 2.3 (Gingerbread). Is there anything like this for KitKat (4.4.2) ? Please recommend external apps or method.
Thanks

its not software related, its built in to the phone itself. most phones cant handle both connections at the same time.

If so it isn't possible to do it manually only trough apps, I suppose.
Try search Google for it if not successful try search in Google Play you might find something
If still not successful then I'm out of options
Edit: Unless you find out a way to create 2 different Wi-Fi's with the same connection. To do it you will need to go to your Internet Connection Settings trough your IP in any browser to find the IP go start than search CMD press ENTER then type Ipconfig and it should be under IPv4. Then copy your IP place it into browsers address bar pres enter. You will be provided to enter login and password. So type admin to login and admin to password. And from there you are all alone.

Question Lenovo P11 Pro WIFI problem

Hi!
Have had the Pro version for a while. It connects to my home mesh network without a problem. Asus XT8 (WIFI6). Works great!
At my work they also use a WIFI6 mesh network, delivered by Cisco I think. But I cannot get the tablet to connect. It doesn't even try to authenticate. My Pixel 5 connects no problem, also countless other devices, Samsung's, Apple's, etc. But my P11 Pro doesn't even want to authenticate. I've tried to reset the tablet, but didn't fix anything. It connected once and that was the very first time it connected to the work network. I've tried to use QR code from a device that has connection, no avail.
I've tried talking to my administrator, but to no help. My device, not their problem... And yeah, it most defiantly seems to be my device that has a problem. I found out they use WPA3 key (or at least has the option enabled), could that be the problem? At home and other networks I can connect to I belive is only using WPA2 key.
Android 10 is compatible with WPA3.
Have you tried "Forgetting" the SSID and trying to connect again?
Does the administrator have MAC address blocking on the router?
Thank you for answering.
I've tried deleting the SSID information from the tablet, but it doesn't rectify the problem. Same result, says "connecting..." under the SSID and the nothing.
I'll ask if they can check if the MAC been blocked! But, in WIFI options the MAC "spoofing"/randomizer in Android is enabled for this network
Try your MAC hardware address rather than random if you can. You'll be presenting to the router with different MAC addresses every time you connect and if they do have MAC address blocking then you'll be blocked.
I'm grasping at straws to be honest
Did you bought the Chinese version with global rom? because I bought it, and i was having problems with the wifi, I found out it was only with the 5 ghz network, it only connected to the Chinese allowed bands. The only solution I found was with magisk changing the props where the wifi region is located, but then you loose widevine L1.

I've talked to admin, they told me there's no special MAC ban. It's also NOT WIFI6 as I thought earlier, but 5, and WPA2-PSK. Same as home I believe.

No, this one is bought from Lenovo's website (DigitalRiver), based in EU where I live (Norway). One of the reasons I bought it was widewine L1 support XD.

I see no reason why it should misbehave then - strange.
Well, even then you can check if the wifi region is correct, you can go to the recovery and select "view recovery logs" and check the following props "ro.product.countrycode" and "ro.boot.wificountrycode" if any of this says "CN" then is the region wrong and the culprit is the lenovo oficial ROW rom.
ro.product.countrycode=SE
ro.boot.wificountrycode=SE
I think this would be correct as SE would correspond to Sweden. Norway and Sweden are neighbouring countries and I see often that many manufacturers doesn't have Norway as an option, but Sweden is listed (and Denmark...)
Or should I contact customer support and ask if I should have recieved one that says NO in these entries?
Well looks ok, you can use an app like wifi analyzer to see what channel is your work network, and if your tablet see it, if your tablet cannot see it, maybe they are using a forbidden channel (for example here in Spain you cannot use the 14 channel on 2.4 ghz network, but i found that some routers use it anyway), in case that the tablet find the network it can be a rom related problem. I doubt is hardware related because you said the connection is fine on your house and you can connect one time at your work. Anyway is not a bad idea contacting Lenovo customer support with the connection parameters.
It can see the network just give. In android and in Wifi analyzer app. Doesn't use any forbidden channels afaik.
Yeah, I probably should contact Lenovo.
Thank you for your help
Update:
Was in contact with Lenovo Technical Support. They hadn't heard about this issue before (OFC). But they recommended I do a what he called "hard hard reset" using Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant as the reset I've done is what he called a soft reset, using the factory reset in Android (not recovery).
So I'll try that and see if that helps.
I also asked about the countrycode beeing Sweden, I was told it is that for all Scandianvian countries.
Hello.
I have the exact same issue as BFalck. With the wifi in my home I have no problem while with the wifi at work I can't connect in any way. The network is seen and saved but the connection fails. I must say, however, that my unit is the Chinese one with the European Rom of Lenovo. BFalck let me know if with the "hard hard reset" you can solve. Thank you

I'm sorry but I don't know this detail. It is very likely that a Cisco device is being used, however. My company provides many wifi networks and the tablet connects to all but not the one that reaches my office...
So I had one of the administrators on site a couple of days ago. We've tried to error check the wlan. In the logs of the AP's the Lenovo tablet doesn't seem to even register trying to connect to the network. That confirms my suspicion there's something wrong with the WiFi in the tablet. Some kind of incompatibility with some devices.
I'll be attaching a image of the label of the AP's we're using.
I have this issue too.
My Xiaoxin Pad Pro ( installed with the Lenovo Pad P11 Pro ROM ) will not connect to my wifi 6 (ax) enabled router on the 5 GHz frequency for use with wifi 5 (ac), only connetcs to 2.4 GHz.
Really annoying. And I cannot disable the wifi 6 function to test connecting to ac-only.
Some backwards compatibility problems, perhaps. Or region specific configurations.
No issues to connect to 5 GHz using my old Netgear r6300v2 (ac-enabled).
Anyone able to connect to a WiFi 6 network?
Yes, no problem connecting to my XT8 mesh at home running W6. Workplace only has W5.
I managed to get it to work by changing the pre-selected channel option from ISP.
I had to find a way to bypass the locked option in the webUi in the router. (Praise the internet)
My ISP had pre-selected a higher channel range (B-range with DFS) and my P11 did not work with that.
The only other option was "without DFS" and that is only available in the lower A-range (channel 36, 40, 44, 48)
Hope this can help someone!
I can confirm as per previous forum member that this tablet cannot work with 5ghz control channels out of the A-RANGE. It is easy if the router is at home to be changed. At least in ASUS router. Maybe caused by CN wifi profile.aside from that I thinks this tablet is just perfect.
