How to root Huawei GR5 2017 - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Can do the same instructions of Honor 6x or not? because of both GR5 2017 and Honor 6x have almost same specifications.
Today I have the answer is YES. After unlocking bootloader and rooting GR5 2017 which step taken for honor 6X.
With hands on my rooted device for 2 weeks I confirm it can work as well after rooting Huawei GR5 2017 : BLL-L22
Instructions
1. Follow these step to get unlock bootloader code from this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/how-to-unlock-bootloader-honor-6x-t3535321

Congratulations your GR5 2017 has been rooted. It has Supersu Icon on your screen.
Optional for Xposed installer

**DON'T BE WORRIED !! Your GR5 2017 has been take a long boot at the first time after installation xposed framwork step taken.
*** You can install Magisk installer instead Xposed installer but after installation ( Magisk framework 10.2), It will loose fingerprint option from your device.

is it ok if i wait for N and root later?
will this method still work?

can i relock bootloader? and if i unlock bootloader i still get OTA?

Thanks for posting, my gr5 says EMUI 4.0 and the 2nd link you posted says for EMUI 4.1 only. will it still work for my phone?
Edit: I have (Canadian Rogers) HUAWEI HR5 [KII-L05] so it is really a Huawei Honor 5X so I just:
1) Unlocked bootloader with steps in first link in op
2) Downloaded twrp for Huawei Honor 5X from twrp website and installed via adb: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/
3) Flashed supersu zip via twrp recovery

I rooted my phone using KingRoot, after some try and error. I used version 4.1.237 or something like that? But I do not have a custom recovery to flash, so unfortunately I can't do much. Wanted very badly to install Xposed, but you have to flash a part, so thats no good..
I also rooted my phone with Kingroot 4.0.1.237, and replaced Kinguser with SuperSu. Now the rooted phone works fine. Looking for any custom recovery image.
Kingroot works fine on Mate 7 Android 5.1
Kingroot does not work on Ascend Mate 7 5.1.1, build B324.
Can anyone advise. I have CWM recovery installed, tried to install SuperSU, which says successful, but still no root.

[SOLVED from FRD-AL00 to FRD-L09] Soft-bricked honor 8 FRD-AL00

I've an honor 8 FRD-AL00. I've fastboot installed and I'm able to access it. I'm also able to access eRecovery.
I've used SRK Tool to change the oeminfo and custom.bin. After trying to install the official L09 I think I bricked my phone.
Here are the steps I've done:
- Unlock bootloader
- Install recovery 6.0
- Root
- Changed oeminfo and custom.bin
- Reboot and tried to install a stock recovery.img boot.img and system.img (which failed while installing it) from offical L09 UPDATE.APP.
Current status: unable to boot either to recovery or android. what should I do in order to get my phone or install the L09 update or at least something that I can use? I've also used the 3 button trick with the dload/UPDATE.APP in the memory card but the phone doesn't show the loading screen it gets stuck into the huawei logo.
I've then tried to install CM13. I've successfully installed twrp-recovery.img but I'm not able to access it (button + vol down nor button + vol up).
Thanks for the help

Doesn't work, it gets stuck at the huawei logo.
After a couple of tries I was able to get TWRP installed so I'm able to access and modify the filesystem.
I've noticed that, for some reason, my phone has the "default.prop" set up to "ro.product.model=eva" shouldn't this be FRD's or something like that?
Can someone provide me a copy of their /default.prop file so I could compare?

Yes. EVA is another Honor phone. It can be caused of the process you did earlier.

For now a moment there is no solution for those issues - the only way is to change back to AL00.
Before you do, please install HiSuite, this tool installs all necessary drivers as well.
1) Unlock bootloader and install TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-unlock-bootloader-tested-root-t3443946
2) ROOT: Download SuperSU and flash it using TWRP
2.1) Power off, press volume up + power on
2.2) After TWRP loads, click on Install, select SuperSU zip file you just downloaded and flash it
2.3) Reboot
3) Debrand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZVsIKtdgV4&t=307s
3.1) This video shows how to debrand P9 but it works on Honor 8 (AL00, AL10, AL09 and AL19)
4) Flash new ROM
4.1) More info about ROMs: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/frd-al-00-04-09-10-14-19-differences-t3452924
4.2) ALXX ROM download: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...rk-tool-huawei-bootloader-root-t3470823/page3
4.2) LXX ROM download: https://www.androidsage.com/2016/12...rshmallow-emui-5-0-4-1-stock-firmware-update/

I have a problem with this guide though. When I install Magisk through TWRP, when it flashes boot, it gets stuck, screen goes black for a while, then the phone vibrates and shows blue notification LED.... Really don't know what that's about

Try Kingroot.
Do we need to unlock the bootloader and wait for 14 days to apply this root method ?
Please add it to this guide if so.
Thanks.

Your device needs to be unlocked by OEM.

I didn't see it when I read the post for the first time. So we do have to wait 14 days before flashing TWRP.

Sorry for reply on a months-old thread but, has anyone firgured out how to root and install custom roms without unlocking Bootloader? I got a Chinese unit and not having a Chinese number is huge roadblock for me. :/
Is it necessary to flash both supersu and magisk for rooting device?? Will the device get rooted if i flash only Supersu?
There is not a lot of Updates released by Lenovo for this model, so if it breaks the OTA, just download from here

Will this method work with the S244 Nougat build?
I have a P2c72 model hardware which I bought from China, but it came loaded with P2a42 firmware which updated itself to Nougat S244 via OTA updates. I'm not sure how to root it and I'm currently in the 14 waiting period to unlock the bootloader!

Yes you can, in my opinion is better make root via twrp and Supersu or Magisk (I have always rooted phone with Supersu)

I haven't found any video tutorials online about rooting the honor 6x, but the way I did it was:
1. Download SuperSU 2.82.
2. Find where the zip file is located on your device.
3. Go into custom recovery by first SHUTTING OFF your device, then holding the power and up button until the screen turns on.
4. Flashing the zip file.
Hope this helps!

Root frd L02

Hello all the respected guides and developers, i am Naresh from Rajasthan, India. I have honor 8 FRD L02, and tried many times for root my device but something went wrong.. I think i dont have correct files for that.. So please provide me all usefull files and correct method for successfully root my FRD L02.
First of all u have to unlock bootloader
Then download and flash twrp recovery.
Then u can go two ways. Either download and flash supersu to root or download and flash magisk module and after that supersu..
Installing magisk is better i think as it gives users additional usability..
I have currently magisk 14.0 installed with supersu and everythong works flawlessly on my FRD L02.
I rooted my phone last night. But i installed only supersu v2.83...
What is magisk? And can i install it now or what the special benifit of magisk.?
As you know that FRD L02 is a single sim phone, only slot 1 is supporting. Can we modified or install something customized for use 2nd slot..? Can we make it dual sim support?

Unfortunately you can't
Magisk is a root utility which enable you to hide your root access for certain applications, you can root with SuperSU or Magisk , but you need to uninstall your current root in order to re-root with Magisk.
But I think I read that Root Hiding function is not yet stable on Honor 8, read everything before installing it
