I've been using XC for a month now. Battery Care worked only during the first few weeks and now it refuses to work anymore. For the past few days, I've been trying to figure out the cause. I even decompiled the APK and am studying the program logic. But I need some live data from working device to help me better understand. If your phone is rooted and Battery Care is working properly, please send me the following files to check. Hopefully the result will help to fix our problem regarding Battery Care. Thanks!

What is battery care? I'm root so if you tell me what I have to install, I can try if you want
Battery care works only if you are very consistent on your battery charge time. For example: If you charge your phone every day at 8pm and take of of charge at 6am battery care will remember it and activate automatically and will try manage your usage based on that time but if there will be discrepancies in charging time and usage and you are not consistent in your charging time battery care useless and will not work. Unless I am wrong on my statement and someone can tell otherwise.
I had the same issue, stopped working after the December update. Worked again in a week or so. Give it time and report back

So do you see a message pop up every night when you plug your phone to the charger? If so then Battery Care should work properly. Then you can extract the above files using any root file manager.
Battery Care works by learning your charging pattern and avoid overcharging and thus prolong the battery life.

My charging pattern is very consistent. But when I browse the learning table created by Battery Care, it doesn't seem to learn properly at all. If you have Battery Care working, I appreciate if you could send me the above files to study.

But your phone actually activated Battery Care 5 times and your charging pattern is really irregular and random. I doubt Battery Care can learn anything from it.

Yeah thats what I told you. My usage is not the same everyday so my battery care does not always activate.
I've just written an app to improve BatteryCare prediction. Check it out.

Wondering!
If they(Sony) can stop charging at 90% for sometime, then why not completely stop charging after 100% ?
And if someone wants to charge again then he can disconnect and reconnect to charge.
For that I use power bank to charge my phone over night, as PBank automatically shuts down when less current is passing(meaning 100% charged)
Is this idea stupid?

lol both correct, but try what wiredvs says first. When under heavy use, the battery gauge does not display the crrect charge sometimes. You will charge it until the green light shows (normally full yes?) and take it off charge, but the phone will not be fully charged.
Charging it for at least double the time with device off should rectify the issue, its a common "quirk" of winmo devices under heavy usage.
If it doesnt work then ur battery is fried so time to get a new one

Wait, what? You can talk on these things? OMG YOU'RE RIGHT!? I've never done that.
Seriously, I suspect your battery is dead, so I'm agreeing with, well, every other post in this thread. My battery has gotten weird too.. I tracked a bunch of battery usage on my phone back when it was new, now when I do the same thing the readings seem to be higher than they were because I'm basing it on percentage of battery used. I've found actually monitoring the battery usage tends to use more battery so I wanted to avoid that.
Also I've noticed mine charges up to about 88% then suddenly thinks it's 100% full. It's about time for a new one.

Lol how ironic!
So, I've had my sensation for a week, it was nearly perfect. But I wasn't sure that it was the best unit, cause battery was used fairly quick, GPS kinda weak, and a slightly washed out screen. I took the 14 day advantage I had at Walmart, and just today headed out there after work to grab the last unit they had! I called like 5 diff. walmarts but only that one had one unit.
Even the box was in such pristine condition, compared to the one I bought earlier, even though both were new. The first box had a date of 5/27. This new one has 6/3, so I'm hoping the June units might be better. Both Taiwanese. I haven't even opened my new Sensation yet, feel excited all over again
Anyways, to come to the point, how did you all start using you new phone, did you just take it out, turn it on, and use it? Or kept it off, charged it all the way, then use it? The reason I'm asking is cause the first one I had, I kept it off and charged it all the way. During that process, the phone got extremely hot towards the bottom, I mean hot like I've never ever seen in any phone before. And it pretty much stayed that way for atleast 2 hours straight. I'm thinking that I maybe messed up the battery up, cause too much heat can damage them. What do you guys think?
Edit: Another thing on my previous phone: the battery gauge was wacky. I would use if for hours and it would stay at 100. Then suddenly show like 85 or something.
usually I will leave it off and charge it fully before using it. This time I turned it on right away, let it drain then charged it fully while off. I've only had my sensation less than a week so really cant ccomment on battery life. When you first get a phone though battery life will be worse because you play with it tons when you first get it
Charged it before turning on & it never got hot
Yeah, mines seemed like a fluke, I've never had a phone do that before. This time, I'm thinking that I'll prolly turn it on before charging just to be safe.
My first two, I did. This one I used right away and today it's been unplugged for 11 hours and I'm still at 47%
I play with it until it fully dies, then I let it charge all the way; for the batteries sake. It last much longer that way.
I couldn't wait for it to charge completely.
I wasnt even out of the T-Mobile parking lot before I had my sim card in it and was messing with it lol.
Could you please tell us how your new phone is? I'll update my post when I check my box for the date but my battery does heat up and my power button is the slanted one.

Exactly....that's what most all manufactures recommend. I didn't notice it in the Sensation's manual, but I know I saw it in my G2X's manual.
For the last 5-6 devices I've had, I always run it dead from the box, then let it fully charge to 100%. As far as I can tell that really does help either calibrate the driver or condition the battery. I also do that pretty much every time its convenient.
I've never just charged it straight from the box.
I've always had great great battery life, under heavy use, for every phone I've had using that method.
I really don't know how important it is, but I know I've never had any of the battery issues that it seems many have with various devices.

Great advice, however I wanted to ask you that when you charged it back to 100% the first time, did you keep the phone off all the way? Also, did you perform any kind of a hard reset on it, and if you did, at what point?

No, I let it die...plug it back in, turn it on.
Some people do factory resets out of the box....I never have (out of the box)...
I get easily a full day, 14-16 hours, with consistent use. WiFi always on, gps on when needed, tons of web activity, light gaming, 100+ texts, dozen or so calls. That's pretty normal.
The Sensation seems to go from full to 90% in a hurry, but then really levels off. No idea why, but it's undeniable with mine. Also, this phone is by far the best I've ever owned when it comes to idle power consumption. I'll regularly leave it unplugged while asleep and it might go down 5% at most.
That's my experience.....hope it helps.
Hoggles, thx so much for your insight. So after reading quite a few pages on other forums, especially the IPhone ones, I think I'm gonna fire it up and drain it & then charge it fully while its off. Now the only thing to figure out is when to factory reset the phone, as soon as I first turn it on, or after it has fully charged? Also, when fully charged, is it best to unplug it and then start it, or start phone while plugged in, and then remove the power cable once it comes up?

I really don't think ya have to get that nit picky...as far as when or how to unplug.
Pretty simple and hard to go wrong....
Out of the box....use it til it shuts off on its own
Plug it in....
Turn it on if ya need to receive calls etc...
Let it charge to 100%...
You're Golden
Repeat whenever you have the time...once, twice a month works for me.

I'm also use it out of the box until its battery drain and warning indication come out. Then I charge my battery.
I facing a weird condition during charging, where its goes up to 80 or 90% fast, but then to reach 100% very slow. It took 3.5 to 4 hours for my phone to reach 100%!!. I already use my phone for 15 days.

This is the "proper" way to condition a Li-Ion Battery. it's best for the battery life during every day use and into the long term. Ideally you should use it until it get's down to about 2-3% then charge fully, and repeat at least 2-3 more times. Your battery will thank you for it.
I had started to think that this tried and true method was NOT working on my sensation and then today, almost one week precisely after I'd gotten it I saw a huge, noticeable difference in battery life over the first 3-4 days.
Condition your batteries people! You and your phones will thank you for it!
I got the phone at Walmart the first day it came out and used it then charged it all the way.
Phone got very hot and I can not get it to last more than 6hrs on a charge no matter what I try.
(No GPS No WiFi No extra apps......you get the point)
Trying to return the phone to Walmart but they don't have any.
Something is definitely off her but I don't know if it's the phone or the battery.

It can be due to many reasons. Firstly, there can be many heavy ram consuming apps running in background. Try to close them. Keep the brightness of screen low. Keep Wifi and Other data connections off when not needed. You can also turn off auto-rotation. This will increase your battery backup to a considerable amount.
Incase, it doesn't makes much of a difference, you should buy a new battery !

This isnt a battery save issue. When it reaches like 92% it instantly goes to 56 and at about 51% it goes like 15% or less, or it may even go from 54% instantly to zero. How can i possibly change battery? Its a tablet. How can i open it? If taken for service will they accept it? Its rooted.

I'm sorry. I didn't read your question properly.
Keeping in mind what you're saying, it seems like a "Failing Battery" . Tablet batteries can be changed but you will have to unroot first or the people at service center won't accept your device. So, unroot first and then go to service center.

Hi everyone !
I haven't seen this info anywhere on XDA, at least on this forum, but i think everyone should know this.
Not trying to take credit in any way, because OP made a terrific job at researching and testing, just wanna spread the knowledge.
Basically : Charging your phone at night or leaving it charging even while at 100% for a few hours will have a big impact on how it behaves and how your battery holds up.
Quick explaination : Since Nougat, you don't get the App Optimization screen anymore on the first boot.
That's because Google has delayed it, and it triggers only in specific conditions : When the device is idle, fully charged, and still plugged in.
This optimzation allows to build the ART cache, which speeds up the system and apps, saving CPU power because it avoids using the JIT (Just In Time) compiler, thus, saving battery juice.
This also means wiping cache isn't going to help with your battery life, quite the opposite.
You'll see he made a test with other users, and the results are quite clear.
Here is a link to the post with detailled explaination and testing, thanks a lot to anupritaisno1 for all this info :
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...-and-battery-calibration-myths-busted.993896/
Forced the building through "cmd package bg-dexopt job" on my own OP6 running Pixel Experience, took like 15mn. SOT improved quite a lot.
Interesting read, thanks

The system works harder when you charge your phone while it's off.
Very interesting read. Basically debunks majority of the stuff people preach to maximize phone performance and battery.

If the phone is OFF it can't trigger the optimization task, this won't be beneficial.
In the article he actually made a test about this, you should read it !
Interesting, but... who claimed that clearing the cache helps with the *battery*?
Also, what happened to the old adage "never leave your phone plugged in" because it causes battery wear?

A lot of people claim this, that you should clear the cache after an update, without clear reason why. At least we have a reason not to.
And this old adage is indeed old, like the "Fully discharge it for calibration". We're not in 2002 anymore. Modern technology had the nice idea to remember to stop the charge, and use Lithium batteries haha !
Leaving it plugged at 100% is not causing any wear. The post mentions a response from an electrical engineer, saying the battery is in fact on stand by and the phone is running off the charger only.

That's just one way to read it. Leaving it plugged in does not, indeed, mean that it keeps trying to charge. But once it goes down, it will charge up again. Also, supposedly, the fuller the battery is when charging, the higher the temperature and hence, the wear. Cannot attest to that, that's just how the argument goes.

Indeed. But from the looks of it, and what i've read in other places, it waits for it to drop a bit. If the battery is not used, it won't fall to 99% in a night, and won't be charged again until you unplug it. Kinda like when your phone is off. It's gonna be a long time before the battery goes down on it's own.
Interesting, gotta try it.
Still, does the <50, >70% not apply in terms of battery wear? I mean, even for straight-forward charges?

I'd say yes, it still applies. It's a different topic ! Everithing said here is related to software and charging control, when this is more related to battery chemistry. But you're right, it's still true.
To sum it up :
- Charging above 70 or 80% and discharging under 30% (Thoses are the values i read about) is indeed not the best thing for your battery health on the long term.
- BUT, the superior battery life your phone will get with these app optimizations easily counter-balances it. If the phones lasts twice longer, it means 2 times less chaging cycles required, when you think about it (Ofc not accurate, but you see what i mean)
Best thing you can do, if you really want to get the best of both worlds, is staying in between those ideal values, and triggering the optimization manually via the Linux Terminal Emulator
Although, i don't think i'm not personally going to bother, i'll just charge my phone, use it, and charge it again in the evening.
Two days after triggering dexopt manually, without flashing or changing anything, using the phone the same way, i went from 16h idle/2h SOT at the end of the day with 50% remaining to 20h idle/2h15 of SOT with 70% remaining, that's quite a drastic improvement.
Ooh can you share more?I tried googling about triggering the optimization but came up empty...
Yes, that's logic in that, if optimization is so dramatic!
PS I meant 80, not 70, just as you mentioned.

Yes, it's hard to get an info about this, wierd.
Run any terminal app on you phone, type "su" to ask for root permission, then enter "cmd package bg-dexopt-job" (without quotes).
It will run for a certain amount of time (between 10mn and more than an hour, depending of the number of apps you have installed).
When you get the shell back (A line appears under the last one to enter another command), it means it's complete.
If you wanna be sure, run it again, it will finish very fast, because the cache will be up to date (It still checks it, so it's not an instant completion).
Do it plugged in the charger, but with like 30% charge, maybe on USB so it doesn't get to 100% too fast, to avoid the awkward situation where it overlaps with the actual automatic background process doing the same thing haha
The phone can heat up a bit because the CPU is working quite a bit.
You can also run the command through an ADB shell on a PC, if you're not rooted.
Or just leave it charging during a night for once, works too
Best way seems to let if charge for the night regularly though (Quote from the OP) :
"I just say overnight because the device being idle is a condition for the optimisation to begin
Also the optimisation is profile guided. If you were to AOT compile your entire base system it would take 4-5 GB off your storage and that is just the base system we haven't even considered the apps you'll install. Since optimisation generates huge optimisation files it is more sensible to only compile what is slow for JIT to do at runtime. This might seem weird but it takes the cache size down to less than 1 GB on most devices
In other words every time you use your phone the runtime sees what is slow and queues it up for optimisation the next time the condition is satisfied"
Wow. This should be pinned somewhere!
I'll do it in the terminal just for fun, but will also leave it (for my first time ever) overnight too.
Thanks, man!

I think everyone should read this yes, even if it's just for the sake of knowing how things really work.
And i can confirm again, my battery life is so much better ...
A few days ago, going to work, listenting to Spotify on my motorcycle for 20mn, and checking my mails for 2m got me to 96% battery.
Yesterday, and today, same routine, an an hour after that i'm still at 100% ... That's very impressive.
Really interesting.
Sadly the command does nothing on my device.

Are you sure ? It doesn't display anything, that's true. But you'll know it's over when the shell returns.
Or you can juste leave your phone plugged for a night or two, same result.
My battery goes from 100% to ~97% within minutes without using it after unplugging the phone from the charger when charging overnight.
Why is that and how can I get rid of it? It occurs since a few days on custom rom as well as on oos now again.
Hi
The moment I disconnect my charger (when the battery is fully charged) my S22 Ultra battery starts to drain. It may seem normal but I think it's fast!
I wonder how long should it take for my battery to drain from 100 to 5 per cent when I am working with the Internet, taking photos and calling.
How about stand by?
I'm a bit concerned.
Thanks for your response.

It happens to me like you. I don't play, I almost don't use social networks (Facebook for example from chrome)............ My use is very normal, whatsapp, telegram and some photos. If you find a solution quote me or mention me please

Hello! The same happens to me! Just after unplugging it goes from 100 to 97% very fast and then it looks like normal. But once I reach 20% it decreases very fast. 5% is like dead. Can you pls tell me if you found a solution or maybe you changed the phone meanwhile. I used Accu Battery Pro and it shows me 87%, 4204 mah/ 4855 mah but I donna what to think about it. Should I consider an official battery changing. Would it make any difference? Thanks in advance!

You can try using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm.pro (there's also a free version) and enabling all stats using adb (it's not complicated) Then you will see if there's any background process keeping cpu alive for too much time.
If everything is normal regarding background process and wakelocks, you may have a faulty battery, but I highly doubt it since it's much more uncommon than software related battery drain.
