How to remove peek, heads-up, pop-up preview notifications? Nougat stable - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Is anyone else annoyed by being unable to turn off "pop-up preview" "peek" "heads up" "whatever they're called" notifications? In the beta previews you can disable them in the System UI Tuner menu but now it's gone. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You can globally turn off peek notifications with this ADB command. If you dont know how to open an ADB connection to your phone you will want to search for those instructions.
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
Just paste the line into an open ADB connection.

Sorry if I make a stupid question but, this method can be done even with a stock firmware without altering the counter knox?

Yes, adb commands work like that from your computer, they have nothing to do with the firmware. Google it.

I asked to myself if this method go well without root or other mod. I wouldn't risk to incrase knox counter :good:

On Nougat stable it is done per app. Haven't found a global solutions like the ADB command posted. Go to settings>notifications>advanced>WhatsApp> and toggle on show silently

Thanks alot, ADB method works like a charm. One more question... so now theres no more peek notifications but is there a way to enable message previews in the notification panel (without swiping it down) - eg. when you receive a whatsapp message it used to show "Message from bae" in the notification panel briefly.
TIA

On MM you had the option not to silent completely the notification but only the heads up for every app. It seems like a step back for Android or Samsung removing this option.

It's called "mobile radio active bug"
Prevents apps from sleeping and keeps connecting when you are on data.
You can google it for additional info.
Install xposed and the mobileradioactive fix module to get rid of it
Any other thing to do without rooting my phone. I wouldn't root it.

I seems like your fb messenger is the one that's causing the trouble. I restricted messenger to use mobile data and found that it gave me way better battery life.
To disable data for a specific app, go to mobile data > find the app > select the app > restrict background data

Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
From what I gather 6.0 will fix this. (For better or worse -LOL- I always look forward to updates. I have an S5 and a Note 4. Neither will have the update until next year but every couple of days I go through the motions and check for updates. I know. I'm an idiot.)

Why wouldn't you want to root, use custom roms and kernels? You are running a 925F device, which means you can use the engineering bootloader and then flash anything with knox 0x0

As long as you use the engineering bootloader Knox will stay at 0x0 and you can flash anything without tripping Knox. Only issue is you will lose fingerprint scanner.

Lol.. People should stop comparing devices like that. Like I said first flash engineering bootloader and the rest follows. The s5 had no engineering bootloader afaik, so its a big difference. The only thing you need to do is never flash an other bootloader after the engineering bootloader. And the downside is you can't use fingerprint on 5.1.1 but you probably will be able to use it on marshmallow
I think this will be fixed with the next update. There will be a Doze feature. I guess it is basically the same like the hibernate feature of the greenify app. So background services like this crappy facebook-messanger cannot drain your battery...
In your case the problem is the messanger app. Un-install it if you dont use it

When you install it on the phone, apply the theme. Then freeze the theme store and theme service with titanium backup... It makes the theme bypass it's trial.

There is another way, if your phone is rooted:
* Go to /data/overlays/jsonfiles and move YOURTHEME.json from trialjson to userjson.
* Delete /data/overlays/preferences
* Reboot and voilá.
This should work with every trial-theme and not just your own.

Depends what you want to do.
If you just want to test a theme on your phone, then I don't think you need root. However the theme will only be a trial version. To convert it to a full theme, you need root AFAIK.

Whatsapp notifications problem on Nougat

Hi, I've recently bought a Honor 8 and I updated to Nougat. I spent a week without problems, than I forced the new B360 update. Since then I no more get whatsapp notifications in real time. When I open the app I get all messages together. These are the optimizations I did:

Make sure it is not being killed off by the system and to change this go into Whatsapp's settings. After that go tot the "apps meanu" in settings and go to advanced and then exempt from battery optimizations. Select all apps and then find whatsapp and tap it it and press allow.
The notifications will be fine then because it won't be killed off and won't be dozed.
While I was on Nougat, following these steps I never had any whatsapp problems.

Hi, I have installed beta version 2.17.62. I've found on the web a more recent version: 2.17.63. Downloading now. Thank you, i'll let you know.
Have you done a factory reset after the update to nougat?
If yes, did you restore whastapp app using HiSuite?
From this link you will get the most up-to-date WA and within the same link is a link to Beta
https://www.whatsapp.com/android/
For myself my WA is working as normal. I did an OTA update over B131 to Android 7 without a factory reset.. (UK) device has never been modified from new..
Like something some have issues some don't..

Same here. Annoying.
On the second picture it shows you haven't enabled Whatsapp, you need to turn that toggle to right? Keep Whatsapp open and in multitasking swipe down on the app to lock it
Check:
Settings -> Apps -> WhatsApp -> Battery:
Power-intensive prompt = off
System wakeup = on
Close after screen locked = off
Is it like this?
In Settings -> More -> Mobile network, is "mobile data always on" enabled?

Nope, this did not fix the problem on my phone. btw "off" is the default option.
I also have this issue. Had to downgrade, setup WhatsApp, then upgrade again for it to work. If you enable app twin also it stops working.
A fix would be great!
Downgrade to mm? Can you give how you made?

If you have forced the B360 update it might be a good idea to start with a factory reset.
If you dont want to do this you can try to go to "Phone Manager" > "Battery" > "Lock screen cleanup" and there turn on the function to close whatsapp.
After you have done that go back to your home and go to "Settings" > "Notification & status bar" > "Notification management" > And there set allow notifications by whatsapp as well as all the other options you want.

Google took away the usual notification controls with Android O. I had a stock Nexus 6P and the same thing happened with that. Any notification preferences already set remained after the upgrade however they would revert to default once the app had been uninstalled or reinstalled.
This guide should help you with the new settings.

Google took away the usual notification controls with Android O. I had a stock Nexus 6P and the same thing happened with that. Any notification preferences already set remained after the upgrade however they would revert to default once the app had been uninstalled or reinstalled.
This guide should help you with the new settings.

I can not get any app to remove notifications from this apk https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schiztech.swapps
And of some others above all with overlay permissions in all the Screens.

Try this guys, you need to create a link to a setting screen that you cannot access through the EMUI system settings. Works well for me.

--EDIT--
Dunno why the links don't work, trying Google "disable displaying over other apps Huawei p20 emui 8", should be top result[emoji106]
Not an issue, meantime I'm on PIE EMUI 9.0. Doesn't seem to have the same annoyance. Still testing.
