Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I had given up on Moto G as a potential root on Verizon Prepaid, but then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52717219
If it has, what guide would I use? If not, any suggestions for a rootable on Verizon Prepaid?
If you need Verizon prepaid, look into Page Plus, at www.pagepluscellular.com because they are prepaid on Verizon's network. The Boost Mobile Moto G is rootable and can be made to work on Page Plus.

Let me just add a comment here if I may.
I have a Boost MOTOG flashed to use Pageplus. Version 4.4.2
Although I have unlocked the bootloader and installed the SUPERSU via recovery, the phone will not root. No error messages or anything but if you try to use any app that needs root, it will not work.
It has something to do with Verizon & 4.4.2 version.

Yea, I'm getting mixed feedback. I appreciate the suggestion with Pageplus and still trying to look into it. The guys over at rootandroid told me they can't root the G on Verizon Prepaid. I really don't want to be on the "bleeding edge" as an amateur. Still looking for a proven method, or an alternative phone...

I have a Boost Moto G flashed to PP, on 4.4.2, and root works just fine for me. Running xposed like a champ. Titanium backup worked for removing needless apps, too. I used the superboot method.

I am seriously considering buying a Verizon prepaid Moto G, but this root issue may be a deal breaker for me. Why so much of a problem with rooting this phone. I know the bootloader is locked, but I have had phones that were locked but I was still able to root them. What's with the Moto G?

Thank you. When you get a minute, could you please look at what version your bootloader is? Mine is 41.05.
Thanks.

Going down the Pageplus road, but first another question. Is there another MVNO you might recommend other than Pageplus that's prepaid and on the Verizon net?
The reason is, I got pushback from Pageplus when I mentioned the G. Claim their dealers can't handle it. In addition they claim Verizon is blocking the G because it is a prepaid device.
In short it must be a 3g or backwards compatible to 3g device, nonprepaid and a Verizon contract phone.
I've found 3 PP dealers in the area, might see how far I get with the G or other best option they have. I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking another MVNO...

I use Page Plus, so I don't know any other MVNOs. They are correct about the Moto G, Verizon blocks their Moto G for at least 6 months. If you flash a Boost G, their imeis aren't registered on Verizon, so they come up fine. Dealers won't know this, but you can set yourself up on the Page Plus website. Kitty Wireless, a Page Plus dealer, offers free ESN checks to make sure you can use a phone with them. Kitty is all online, though.
Edit: I should specify, my wife has the Boost G on PP, I set it up. Bought a Verizon G before I knew about the locked bootloader and Boost flashing. When the Verizon G can be used on PP, we'll be trading phones.

Hello everybody. This is my first post here in XDA. Please note that english is not my main language (I'm from Argentina).
I plan to buy at amazon the AT&T G3 model (D850) that has the same LTE bands that will run in my country. I will unlock it by IMEI code in order to use it in one of Argentina's cellphone companies. Unfortunately, international model D855 that is factory unlocked doesn't support my country LTE bands. I have doubts about the Android OTA updates after the unlock. Do I have to wait until AT&T releases Android updates or will I get that direct from LG? Also, what happens with updates with unlocked AT&T phones (by IMEI code unlock) running abroad on different cellular companies? Will I get updates from AT&T or I will be stuck with an old Android version?
Thanks in advance
Unless you are using an AT&T sim you won't receive ota updates from AT&T. Since the phone is a branded AT&T device you must receive updates from AT&T.

Is there a way to update Android in my situation? I saw there is a method through RUU to flash LG updates.

Probably due to ST being an mvno of att. There are numerous threads for numerous devices with this same question as the op, the answer always being the same.

So, do you say I will be able to update Android on an unlocked AT&T G3 from abroad?
So I have an lg g stylo from metropcs. After 3months I got it unlocked and now I have T-Mobile sim card. My question is can I flash a T-Mobile variant rom? Or do I just stay with metro roms?
For example Katana you can flash the main rom then either pick T-Mobile or Metropcs Variant. That's where I'm confused! if only cm had video I would of gone with cm.
I would say the MetroPCS one. Go to settings and look up your hardware info. If it says MS631 for your phone type you need the metro one, H631 is T-Mobile.

I got my phone att phone in the states but got stationed overseas being military. Att did me a favor and unlocked the phone for me with proof of my orders. I am not able to get these updates because of where I located and can no longer use an active att Sim card. There are some of us who have legitimate reasons to download the firmware other than the traditional method. I have looked on the att support page and these forums but can only find custom roms. All I'm looking for is the official update

You cannot sadly. You MUST use a att sim or flash a custom rom. There's no way around it unfortunately. If it was available I'd have it in my guide to flash but it's not.

I recently switched my S6 from Verizon to T-Mobile. Can I flash the T-Mobile firmware on this phone?

In short no. The closest to what your thinking is like having a s7edge and instead of running your providers firmware, in your case (T-Mobile) but you got a Verizon phone, you could download and run the "unlocked firmware" for the phone. In this example it'd be SM-G935U if say you had a SM-G935R4(U.S. Cellular), I know you can also flash other providers to the s7edge like verizon to a us cellular phone. Don't think it flys with the s6 like that though.
That's what I kind of figured. Verizon has their phones extremely locked down but figured I would ask before I tried and bricked it. Thanks for the imput and help.
